Captain of the Norakian warriors, Kazstrom must prepare for the upcoming competition that could promote him to General of his legion. The only thing holding him back is a poisoned wound that is sapping his strength. He needs to find the Soulstar which came from his home galaxy, a rare moonstone that could heal him, and he had tracked it as far as Earth. Now here, he is not detecting its frequency, its vibration fading in and out as if it was near something that helped to conceal it. He felt something was “off”, and peculiar energies swirled around his mind, making his skin illuminate then fade. He found the location of the moonstone and, changing his appearance, he went out to get it, calling his catlike pet, Warcat, to join him. As they walked down the ship’s ramp, Warcat shifted into a black motorcycle with gold accents.
Teegan Moore is a feisty, intelligent human working two jobs to pay off ex-boyfriend Josh’s debt, when he had used her identity without consent to get loans he never paid. Despite all this grief, part of her longed for an adventure! She taught her students to never give up on their dreams, and she guessed that philosophy held true for her as well. “Reach for the stars” became her goal! She had set up a book and artist fair in the bookstore, her second job, and the vendors were setting up. Her jewelry designer friend gave her a gorgeous necklace and, as she touched the stone, she felt a powerful zap go up her arm and spread over her body. The energy was potent. Steffani told her when a special crystal does that, it likes you! The crystal had come from her parents’ garage and he cleaned the stone for her and made the necklace.
Tracking the moonstone, now a necklace, Kazstrom and Teegan meet. Because others are also after the moonstone, Teegan has a choice. She can join Kazstrom and return to his planet so he can keep her safe while she heals him, or she can stay behind on Earth and be in danger. With her desire for adventure and her attraction to the handsome blue-skinned warrior, which seems to be reciprocated, the choice is an easy one for her. Will she be able to cure Kazstrom? Will he live to compete and become General? Will the two of them stay together on his planet?
One thing I enjoyed about the book was the frequent positive comments about goals producing accomplishments, satisfaction, and self-worth, and the spirit of hope in humanity which was so empowering. Kazstrom is also a decent, kind, honorable character. He looks at something broken and sees potential rather than uselessness. And overcoming a harsh childhood, Kazstrom realized that an individual who remakes that life into something better always has standards because he knows what came before. This alien was my hero! Again, the book has a very positive feel to it.
