The way he reads her every desire and lights her skin ablaze, always has Kennedy weak in the knees, ready to give into his demands. Will Andreas and Kennedy get what they want and need from one another and be able to live by their own standards? Or will everything fall apart right in front of their eyes? Take this erotic ride with them and find out.
Chiiiiiiile, I was not even a little bit ready for this book! Held In Contempt should be Held In Contempt for how nasty it was! Andreas and Kennedy were so freakin' sexy. From their heated glances in the courtroom to their sexual trysts in his chambers, both of them were givin' off tons of BDE. Yeah, Kennedy was that bytch. She was a high powered black woman who didn’t take any mess but, Anthony Crumm really tried it. He tried to sully our girl's reputation but, little did he know, she and Andreas were already married and been married for two years. Didn't see that plot twist coming. I also loved how the author shed light on the discrimination, criticism, and scrutiny that black women face when dating someone with prestige within their field of occupation. I know we as readers say this a lot about novellas but, this book really should've been a full novel. I would've loved to read more about Anthony Crumm's past and see his grimey azz get his. As always, Wesleigh Siobhan brought the heat and Emmanuel Ingram did the damn thang too. Held In Contempt was a phenomenal read. It was sexy and funny while delivering a powerful message about discrimination and bias as well. Read this book. You will not be disappointed.
Held in Contempt by Eva Sherie is about Judge Andreas Kendrick and attorney Kennedy Glory. These two are one hot pair! From their heated glances in court to their sexual endeavours in his chambers. Andreas and Kennedy have been keeping their relationship a secret because of the scrutiny women, especially Black women face when dating someone with prestige within their field of occupation. I love how understanding and protective Andreas is, he’s a keeper. Kennedy represents many Black women with her drive, it was great to see with someone on her level that treats her well and supports her efforts. I really enjoyed this story, although it is a novella the story feels complete. I’ll definitely be reading more from this author.
This Was HOT! I need a Judge Andreas Kendrick in my life! Not only was this man was extremely supportive and sexual, but he was caring. This was a really cute short read/listen....I love this powerful black woman in a town filled with underhanded deals and corrupt lawmakers. Kennedy was able to navigate her way without the aid of anyone....I absolutely love it! Wesleigh & Emmanuel are powerful together as narrators to me!
Well lock me up and throw away the mf key 🔑😩😩!! Kennedy and Andreas were hot and heavy!! Wesleigh and Emmanuel y’all didn’t have to do us like that! This was definitely a two piece spicy with a biscuit + sides lol! I mean!!!!! When the judge calls you to his chambers you better go running 🏃🏽♀️ on ya Sha'carri Richardson ish!! I loved the unexpected twist too! Now I need to go back and listen to Wild Thoughts again because I listened out of order 😩🫣
I was not prepared or ready for the cuteness overload in this book. I expected filth and more filth. Instead, I got a couple who indulged in naughty activities behind closed doors, who also happened to have a juicy little secret between them. I was nicely surprised and super entertained. Andreas was everything, Kennedy was a badass: Ingredients for super entertaining novella. A+
Books like this are so incredibly important. We need to see more black people and women in particular in leadership positions, both in media and the real world. Therefore, I deeply appreciated the conversations in Held In Contempt : An Erotic Novella.
However, even though it is just a novella, the plot got quite repetitive and I had a few problems with the structuring. For example, comes the climax too late and the story wrapped up quite suddenly. To top it all off, I liked the smut, but I didn’t exactly love it, so yeah.
Overall, a quick (and sadly probably forgettable) read which has crucial message.
This was good and filthy from beginning to end. Andreas was giving her THAT work and they don’t get tired. If you’re in a reading slump or just looking for a good quick read—this is the novella for you. She even stuck in some plot, I see you Ms. Author.
Well now! Talk about a BOMB in a small package!! This novella was the absolute best. You came out swinging! Yes its short because it is a novella, but I would have LOVED to read a full length book! Andreas, YOU. ARE. THE. MAN!!
Was this really a novella? I don't feel like it was! I want more! This story was all kinds of wonderful, had me hooked from the first word to the last. What a story packed into just about 90 mins of listening! Kennedy and Judge Kendrick?? Yes, please! I listened to the story and the narration was phenomenal! Wesleigh Siobhan and Emmanuel Ingram! Hats off!
3.5. I wasn’t a huge fan of the writing style BUT I loved seeing a high powered Black woman who didn’t take any mess. I also enjoyed the fact that the author pointed out all of the discrimination and criticism that Black women face on a daily basis.
I don't think I've ever read a sexy story starring a judge before and this did not disappoint! Even though this was a quick read(listen) the story flowed really well. Both main characters were well developed and extremely likeable. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author and of course My Fav Wesleigh Siobhan brought the heat and Emmanuel Ingram has quickly enamored himself to me with his deeply sexy voice. Kudos, Eva Sherie! You have a fan in me!
This was spicy little novella. In its short time, it gave you hella steamy times, a surprising twist and a sweet love story. Kennedy was a strong heroine, man or woman, she wasn’t backing down. Andreas was just as headstrong so when these two came together, hello fireworks. The narration though...it took it to another level. Wesleigh Siobhan and Emmanuel Ingram were fire and truly brought Kennedy and Andreas to life!
Judge bae! Andreas and Kenni’s story was so sexy. Those scenes were hot but between the steamy scenes there was a bigger story and message that I agree with a hundred percent. I loved that little unexpected twist near the end and again Judge bae can bang that gavel anytime ok!
This is a new-to-me author and I checked out this novella based off a recommendation I got from the premier black romance podcast, the Brazen Babes Reviews Brazenlee Shadee podcast. Based on the discussion on the podcast, I was very excited to check this out. I definitely see why the hosts liked this book a lot and it’s definitely not bad, some parts of it were just perhaps not for me.
Okay first of all, there are things I really liked about this book. I loved the Black main couple, Kennedy, a high-flying successful defense lawyer with a big firm, and Andreas, her judge husband. I loved the unconditional love and black excellence in their relationship. I loved the premise of them having been secretly married for years but hiding their relationship so that Kennedy’s success wouldn’t be attributed to her husband’s prestige in legal circles. I loved that even though Andreas disagreed with Kennedy’s insistence on hiding their marriage indefinitely, he supported her. I loved how he looked after her when things went wrong. I appreciated how this author examined the double standards of how men and woman are treated in the fall out of a scandal. Though both potentially culpable, Kennedy’s reputation is dragged through the mud and her integrity called into question whilst her husband, Andreas, is barely mentioned as a guilty party and certainly seems to face no consequences in the court of public opinion. Kennedy is disrespectfully addressed whilst her husband is accorded the respect of his profession. I think those are wonderful themes and examples the author brings forward in this short novella especially as they pertain to women, particularly black women. These are all things that I think were great about the novel.
My issues were more with the style of the novel. The writing style to me felt a little... rushed and perhaps a bit... unedited. Not that there were proofing issues, it just felt a little run-on and not very thoughtful in delivery- you could definitely feel the flow but perhaps not the revision. The major premise with Andreas judging Kennedy’s cases- however tight they were, didn’t seem very ethical, and like something a couple that took their careers so seriously would do; that also applies to the frequent sexing in Andreas’ chambers. It just didn’t make sense to me that if there was such a huge concern about secrecy, that was something they would do. Kennedy’s decision to hide her marriage would have made sense at the start of her career but no longer made sense at her level of success, especially with the way she kept wilding out in Judge Andreas’ court, like someone who was dying to get caught. The longer such a secret is kept, the dumber it looks when it comes out. Finally, this is definitely an erotic novella with an emphasis on the “erotic.” I feel like there was potentially a lot more really interesting plot and character development that could have been done but that was sort of left out for the sex- like I feel it could have done with a bit more conversation, a little more conflict and consequence in addition to or in exchange for some of the sex scenes.
That said, I didn’t dislike this at all. Indeed, I want to read more books from this author. I just felt like I liked the idea of this more than I liked the execution, and that this had a lot more potential than it served. I recommend it though if you’re looking for a quick, fun, sweet and extremely spicy legal black erotic romance, that is very heavier on sex and supportive black men, and lighter on plot and character development.
This novella was everything you could want in an erotic/smutty world. Two black professionals in high powered positions with enemies waiting in the wings to topple their world share more than just court briefings. I loved the way this story opened by setting us up immediately for the potential for conflict before thrusting us into a steamy "briefing". The narration was well done by Emmanuel Ingram and Wesleigh Siobahn. They made for an equally powerful duo. It's rare that I read a novella and am left satisfied. I can't wait to see what else this author has in store for us.
Representation: black romance, black lawyer, black judge
Thoughts: CHILE THIS NOVELLA WAS SO DAMN GOOD! First of all Andrew is bitch! Second of all I hate that Kennedy felt like she had to hide shit to make it in her career! And I loved the way Dre was willing to take care of his woman! I loved their chemistry so damn much! Ugh this book was so damn good omfg
Wow, talk about a power couple! A judge and a top notch attorney and their heated love for one another. Eva Sherie is a new author to me and she did not disappoint. Very talented to be able to write a novella that showed character development, have steamy sex and have a story line that hooks you from the start! Andreis and Kennedy are such strong characters and I'm pleased at how they tackled the issues they were faced with. Wesleigh Siobhan and Emmanuel Ingram performed this so well, they sounded great together. This novella will definitely be one of my quick relistens. Highly recommend everyone to listen to this.
This was too short for me because now I want more. I wanna know what happens to Anthony but I loved how we got to see how black women in power are treated when they are successful.
This is my first read from this author and it was incredible. Often when people see a story is a novella, they anticipate that the characters, plot, etc. will not be well developed. That certainly is not the case here; Ms. Sherie does an excellent job with the plot and dialogue - there was plenty of heat in this story and it delivered a powerful message about discrimination and bias as well.
Wesleigh Siobhan and Emmanuel Ingram deliver excellent performances! I love them as a combo and they did the characters justice.
Eva Sherie is a talented writer and I will be picking up more of her titles (written under Shay Davis). I would definitely recommend!
Kennedy and Andreas were perfect! I loved the surprises and different ways this short story went and I want more! Surely they'll be another, longer story about them and we get to the bottom of Crumm's jealousy and mess. Great read!
This book was AMAZING!!!! I have nothing to say other than "GIVE ME MORE". Attorney Kennedy Glory is at the top of her career. She is the only African American and the third female to ever make partner at a prestigious law firm in DC. She graduated at the top of her class at Stanford has a high success rate in the courtroom and is on the way to establishing a professional Legacy. While the same can be said about her personal life, Kennedy elected to keep her heated relationship with THEE SEXY Judge Andreas Kendrick a secret. Andres was everything and more. I loved his patience and the way he loved Kennedy. He left no doubt in her mind that he supported her until the end. I loved that the author addresses the issues Black women face professionally and when dating a successful man. I respected Kennedy's decision to become successful on her own before letting the world in her personal life. I literally devoured this book. It was steamy, entertaining, well written and it came with an unexpected twist. I did catch a few grammatical errors but trust me when I say, it didn't deter me from this exciting story line. The author really went into explicit detail writing the sex scenes and I knew then, I shouldn't have read this at work. Overall, I loved reading this book and the message it sent. Cant wait to read more from this new author.
Come on Judge Kendrick😏. Man of man was that spicy.
I loved it all. From Kennedy's need to be secret with the Judge, to the Judge wanting to openly show his affection to Kennedy, yet respecting and understanding her reasons why she wanted to keep things secret, to Attorney Kennedy kicking butt in court, to the secret rendezvous between these two love birds, to despicable Attorney Anthony Crumm and his shady behind, to Judge Kendrick protecting his woman and her honor by sticking it to Crumm in the worst way😏. I loved it all.
Short and jammed packed with a lot of goodness.
I loved that Shay Davis mentioned this book as one of her alter ego pen name books. I'll definitely be reading not only more from Shay Davis, but Eva Sherie as well. Loved it. Really great read.
This short erotic story was hoooot! For the longest I thought Kennedy was sleeping with two different men until I realized that it was the same man.. lol! Kennedy is a well respected attorney but one of her colleagues has it out for her. This book was a good example of why folks should just mind their own business 🤣. I loved the plot twist between Kennedy and Judge Kendrick. I didn’t see it coming but it made the storyline so much more interesting and then the way Judge handled everything- that was sexy! I was like okay, Judge! Good read and super short.
The Honorable Judge Dark Chocolate at your service
Andreas was nothing shorty of wonderful. Great husband, sexy game on point, & a protector...love him. They served Andrew’s butt to him on a platter. #BLACKLOVEMATTER(BLM)
I loved this story how hard Andreas went for Kennedy once it came out out them. Understood her wanting to wait but damn they had been together for 7 years total. I think if she would have let it out before it was leaked things might have played out different. I think I loved the fact that her boss was willing to make people disappear for her. This was great read. 💙💙💙💙💙⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
