Bears Hockey #1

Must Love Dogs...and Hockey

Rate this book
Listening Length 7 hours and 12 minutes

Can an idealistic dog lover teach a jaded hockey player new tricks?

Lilly: My life is like the love child of a train wreck and a dumpster fire right now. I’ve been canned, my professional reputation is shredded, and now I’m walking dogs to make ends meet.
But I still believe everything will work out. Somehow.
Then a dog at the park attacks my friend’s dog. At first, I’m ready to give the owner hell—but it turns out he’s in desperate need of doggie daycare. I figure, why not? I love dogs and I need the cash.
Too bad his cocky bad boy attitude annoys me. He’s too damn cute for his own good. And I’m not talking about the dog.

Easton: My coach is riding my ass and I’m not handling it well. When I’m saddled with an abandoned pooch, my teammate thinks a dog will keep my temper in check. I think I have enough problems already.
But when my new dog gets into a tussle that leads me to meet a smoking hot chick who knows how to handle the rascal, I start to think pet ownership isn’t all bad. At least it gives me an excuse to see Lilly again. . . .
Neither of us are interested in a relationship. First they steal your bed, then they steal your heart. And I’m not talking about the dog.

"You’re everything. Everything I need. Everything I want."
Look at that cover. I mean, it's so sweet you could melt. And so is this book, sweet, easy, and cute. I'm giving it a 3.5 and rounding it up to 4 because I really enjoyed Kelly Jamieson's writing style. This was the first book of hers I read, and it won't be the last.

“Lilly.” He groans and drags his mouth over my jaw. “I’m a mess.”
“We’re all a mess.”
“I want to be with you. But I don’t want to drag you down with me.”

I really liked Easton. I mean, I recently became a fan of hockey romance, so it was easy to see I'd love the hot hockey player. I liked how he tries to play it cool with everything, like he's not getting attached to anything or anyone, but we all know that's not how it works. I also enjoyed the locker room camaraderie between him and the other players. And mostly I enjoyed how wonderful he is with Otis.

"He’s been my rock and my anchor. My home. My love."
Lilly felt real. I mean, the girl who gets fired over something she clearly didn't do, and decides to fight back. The girl who is broke and owing money, but who knows she needs to try and follow her heart. And mostly, the girl who really is a fighter and chooses to believe stuff will work out somehow if you only do your best. No, it doesn't always work like that, but it certainly can.

"It’s so easy being with someone who gets you, who knows all about you and likes you anyway. But it also makes me feel exposed. Like she knows my biggest weaknesses. It scares the shit out of me."
Their meet cute is a dog meet cute. Meaning, they meet when their dogs sort of attack each other at the park. He notices she's beautiful, she notices he's hot, physical stuff. He hits on her and is not shy about what he wants. She recently became unemployed and is walking another person's dog, and he needs someone to walk Otis. So that's that, she'll take care of Otis when he's off playing hockey. All their relationship evolves from there, and I know I mentioned it, but it's so cute! Plus, the sex is kind of hot too.

"I am falling in love. I am falling like the snowflakes outside, like leaves in the autumn and petals in the summer. Like stars that you make a wish on. I know what I wish for. I wish for him."
I'll just say that both of them have issues. Trust issues, grief issues, stuff in the past that prevents them both from just letting go. And I totally get that, but it didn't seem enough for me.

Easton's issue may be a hard one, but it felt too uncomplicated. I didn't feel what he'd been through as much as I think I should have. It didn't help that I felt like he was being a coward and hiding behind the stuff in his past to justify his inaction in the present.
Ultimately, I felt like the book was missing something because their issues didn't have enough depth, and so I couldn't fully connect to either of them, and that's a major thing for me.

"I want you too.” He smooches my lips softly. “I want us.” Another kiss. “I want it all.” Kiss. “With you.” He meets my eyes. “Only you.”
I loved the end, though. I loved that they could finally talk, find common ground and get their HEA. It's heartwarming when nice people who've been through stuff finally catch a break, in a very rom-com style. They both wanted to be loved, and needed someone to love them.
And of course, puppy bonus points for Otis.

This was super cute and I loved this couple. I also loved that Otis, the dog was a big part of Easton and Lilly's story. He had a huge personality and was the glue that kept these two anti-relationship people together.

Now usually the anti-realationship characters are not my favorite. However, Kelly Jamieson wrote this couple in a way that avoided what I don't like about them, mainly not getting to see them together very much. This was the opposite. We got really good couple time with these two and they were just genuinely fun characters to read about.

I also really loved how this ended. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I highly recommend this for when you are in the mood for a really cute story.

Kelly Jamieson crafts a super fun, cute and sexy read.

Lilly’s life is a mess. Ever since she got fired for doing the right thing by speak out she hasn’t been able to get another job in the hospitality industry. The only thing that’s gone right so far was getting hired to take care of the cutest dog ever. Unfortunately, his own is a gorgeous hockey player with a chip on his shoulder.

Easton has lost everything and hockey is all he has left. He knows better than to get attached to people or pets, but he can’t abandon the cute dog who seems to adore him. And when Otis gives him the perfect excuse to keep seeing the smoking hot woman he met at the park, Easton embraces dog ownership with gusto. Except he’s not looking for a relationship of any kind.

What starts as a purely professional association turns into a deep emotional connection neither expected or knew they needed.

Set against a lovely New York backdrop, Lilly and Easton’s story is a fun and appealing novel of two very charming characters and an adorable puppy.

Must Love Dogs and Hockey is a standalone romance by Kelly Jamieson. Told from both points of view, with a happy ending.

I am a huge fan of Kelly Jamieson's hockey series and I am sooooo excited that she is writing another one! MUST LOVE DOGS....AND HOCKEY is the first book in the BEARS HOCKEY SERIES, and let me tell you we are off to a great start!

Lilly and Easton have an intense first meeting but it's quickly lightened up. Actually the majority of this book is on the lighter side which is refreshing right now. I loved the slow build between Easton and Lilly before things got hot and heavy, and their banter had me laughing out loud constantly.

I am a huge fan of Kelly Jamieson's hockey series and I am sooooo excited that she is writing another one! MUST LOVE DOGS....AND HOCKEY is the first book in the BEARS HOCKEY SERIES, and let me tell you we are off to a great start!

Lilly is having a tough go of things at the moment, she lost her job and her boyfriend but she's trying hard to turn things around for herself by walking dogs to help make the bills. I admire Lilly for doing what she has to do in order to keep a roof over her head, most in her predicament would go and live with their parents and wallow for a while.

Easton, now this man instantly melted my heart and you will understand why when you read the book and find out how Easton became the hero to an abandoned puppy. Easton has been through a lot in his life and not all of it was fun and games. There is a seriousness to him because of his past but it also makes him want to live in the now.

Lilly and Easton have an intense first meeting but it's quickly lightened up. Actually the majority of this book is on the lighter side which is refreshing right now. I loved the slow build between Easton and Lilly before things got hot and heavy, and their banter had me laughing out loud constantly.

Kelly Jamieson is my go to for hockey romances and if you enjoy Hockey Romances as much as I do I highly recommend this book to you.

Happy Reading!!!

Must Love Dogs...and Hockey was the first book in the Bears Hockey series by Kelly Jamieson.

Easton Millar was a professional hockey player for the NHL team the New York Bears. He was recently traded and known for his temper.

Lilly Evans was in between jobs and filling in as a dog walker until she found her next opportunity.

The book began with a harrowing scene with Otis - I still cringe and am near tears when thinking about it - but Easton came to the rescue and the two bonded for life. Otis, the adorable fun loving puppy then stole the show.

Jamieson introduced Lilly to Easton and Otis and the connection was immediate. The common bond was Otis but the adults had chemistry as well. Neither were looking for a relationship so it was a slow burn with the friendship as the foundation.

While Jamieson developed the friendship, she simultaneously began unraveling the broken - and sometimes sad - pieces of Easton and Lilly’s lives. Although the story was fiction, there were similarities to recent events that brought real life into the storyline. Some were tragic events while others were based on having a moral compass for doing what’s right and not remaining silent. No spoilers so no elaboration, but it was both an enjoyable and thought provoking read.

True to form, it was well written, well developed and Jamieson displayed her Hockey knowledge within the plot, providing additional depth and dimension to the storyline. She also provided a teaser into the next book, You Had Me At Hockey, which showed promise for another enjoyable and fun book.

Whoa. Finished this in a few hours because I just couldn't put it down. It was sweet, with some hot moments of course! I loved hockey player Easton and dog walker Lilly--two mature, likable characters that needed something good to happen in their lives. But they were so much more than that. Neither wanted a 'relationship '--each had their reasons but by God you knew they would end up together because they were perfect for each other. And Otis the dog was the glue that held them together!

I also liked how the author wove into the story a couple of real life incidents that happened in the hockey world that affected Easton tremendously and caused me to understand all the pain he had bottled up inside. Way to bring an unexplainable tragedy, racism, and abuse into a well thought out story. Easton was a lucky man to have such a caring, understanding partner in his life. I want to read more about them!

The book ended on a small cliffhanger---I'm hoping Kelly Jamieson picks up where she left off...?

Another sports romance series from one of my favorite authors! YAY!!

You see that cover? That cover is #winning exponentially! Want to know why? Because it tells the exact story. I am fully aware that this whole cover OCD I have is a me thing and most people don’t really even care at the level I do, but nothing scores more points with me than a cover that matches a story! Well done!

The thing that stood out the most to me about this story was how easy and light it all was. That’s not only refreshing but also necessary these days. The world is on fire and all I want is a little escape LOL This book is the perfect escape from the dumpster fire that is life right now. A slow burn, feel good, swoony romance that I hope will follow the same trends with upcoming books. It was sweet and sexy with just the right amount of heart and emotion!

Looking forward to Josh and Sara in December!!

I’ve been reading Kelly Jamieson for a decade and she’s never written a bad book, seriously she hasn’t. She’s written some I’ve loved greatly and she’s written some that didn’t resonate with me, but she’s never written anything I couldn’t finish. That being said, Must Love Dogs…and Hockey got off to a really slow start for me. I struggled through the beginning of this book, but there was enough in it to keep me going and I’m so thankful that I did. I enjoyed this book; the characters were quirky and interesting, the plot had many layers, and while it dealt with the serious issues it still contained many light hearted and fun moments as well.

Lilly’s life is in an uproar; her father decided to “find himself” and left her mother to travel, she was just fired from a job she really didn’t like but paid the bills, she’s embroiled in a lawsuit from a previous employer for wrongful termination and ostracizing her in the industry, and her boyfriend left her when she was let go from that job. Her roommate and friends have been there for her even loaning her money, but she also feels responsible for her grandmother losing part of her retirement savings because of the company she’s suing. As she says “My life is like the love child of a train wreck and a dumpster fire right now.” Despite all of that Lilly is a fairly upbeat, optimistic woman who is trying to decide a direction for her life.

The last thing professional ice hockey player Easton wants or needs is a dog, but after saving a puppy it seems like he has one. Easton has no idea what to do with a puppy but he can’t turn the little guy over to just anyone because it’s evident the puppy has issues sort of like him. After being traded last year, he knew he needed to keep his head down and just play his heart out, but his coach is a nightmare that he feels is ruining the team. He’s miserable, his teammates are miserable, but he doesn’t feel there’s anything that can be done about it without tanking his career.

Lilly and Easton meet under unusual circumstances and with the help of a couple of determined dogs. Lilly is not impressed with Easton, but he perseveres and hires her to take care of Otis (the puppy that really isn’t his) while he’s out of town. Over time their relationship grows and as they share bits and pieces of their lives, they both begin to see their own future a bit better as well. They are a good sounding board for one another, I found it interesting out easily they shared things about themselves that they hadn’t shared with others. They were often very open and candid with one another in what they were thinking and feeling especially Easton who made no bones about the fact he wanted to in fact bone Lilly.

While this was a slow burn romance, once they hit the sheets it was anything but; this author never disappoints in her sex scenes and Lilly and Easton find they are extremely compatible in the bedroom and out.

There was so much I enjoyed about this book once we got past the slow start, but what I had problems with was Lilly’s attitude towards Easton when he was facing a huge crisis with his coach. I felt like she really didn’t understand what could happen if Easton proceeded with a complaint and she should have considering she was shut out in her own field, especially since he shared with her what hockey meant to him and why.

Must Love Dogs…and Hockey was a fairly low angst romance with serious themes, yet it was filled with humor, interesting characters (both main and supporting), and an adorable puppy.

After being rescued, a dog is abandoned in Easton's building. Though it was supposed to be a temporary situation, Easton could not resist this dog and knows he cannot not handle him alone. Fate brings him into contact with Lilly, a down on her luck dog walker, and though Easton wasn't looking for romance or a dog, he found both to be welcomed additions in his life.

I am well known in these parts as a hockey romance lover, but Jamieson went and sweetened the deal by working an adorable pup into the story. Could things get any better? Well, they actually did, because I found this to be quite a fun, sweet, and heartwarming romance.

Lilly and Easton were fantastic together. Lots of chemistry and great banter made them easy to ship, but in each other, they also found the encouragement and support they had been missing. Lilly was still recovering from losing her job and her ongoing whistleblower case. At the same time, she was trying to blaze her own path with a new dog-walking-day-care type business. Not many people believed she could make this work, but Easton did.

Jamieson ripped my heart out with Easton's backstory. Wow! Utterly heartbreaking. I don't want to go into detail with this. It ends up being something really important in this book, and I want you to uncover it all as intended. Needless to say, Lilly was a gift for him. She was someone to give him the love and affection he had gone without for so long. She helped him process a lot and encouraged him in many areas of his life.

As with all her novels, Jamieson assembled an interesting group of players to inhabit this world, and I am eager to learn more about them. I watched them play, on and off the ice, and enjoyed the camaraderie they shared. The family vibe was alive and well, and that's something I love seeing.

I need to mention the dog, Otis. Nothing like some 6 foot 5 man being handled by a pup. Watching their bond grow was something that melted my heart. And, we all know dog antics can add a fun element to any story. Otis definitely earned all his page time, and he was just the sweetest thing.

I greatly enjoyed getting to know Lilly, Easton, and Otis. That epilogue has me chomping at the bit for the next book too! I anticipate a feels tsunami based on what was revealed at the end there, and I can't wait!

CW:

Must Love Dogs...and Hockey is a decent romance. On the plus side, there's very little hockey bro-ness to it. There are some references to the hero having been a player, but there's no evidence in book. There's a cute scene at the start where the hockey guys discuss contraceptives with oral, which admittedly made it weird when that was considered with Lilly. But still, I liked that that conversation happened. Otis is definitely the star of this, though. Lilly and Easton are...fine. It drove me up the wall that Lilly starts a business that is apparently cash-only and not in any way legit. Like, I was just sitting there wondering if she would pay her taxes, and I doubt it.

The writing feels a bit amateurish or perhaps just under-edited. Expect a lot of exclamation points, for example. I was entertained but also didn't like it enough to be planning to read more Jamieson, unless I hear really good things from readers I trust.

Review by Trinette Dungee

Easton needs a dog sitter; Lilly needs a job…. Perfect combination! Perfect combination in more ways than one.

Easton saves a dog from certain death in an elevator and suddenly becomes his owner. With no knowledge of how to take care of him and a hockey career that has him more than a little busy he’s stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Lilly is out of a job, again, and she’s up to her eyeballs in debt. The way she sees it, her life is pretty much in the toilet. Her description, “You could say my life is like the love child of a train wreck and a dumpster fire”. Yeah, that gave me quite a giggle too. While she’s in between jobs she finds herself walking a few dogs which she finds she actually enjoys. These days, the animal species is more enjoyable than the human species.

So, I’m going to age myself with this but growing up there was commercial, that went like “Hey, you put your peanut butter in my chocolate! Hey, you put your chocolate in my peanut butter! Reese’s Peanut Butter cups, two great tastes that taste great together!” I swear this kept running through my head the entire time I was reading this book. From the moment these two got tied up together I loved them, and they fit perfectly together!

The chemistry between these two was phenomenal. The connection to Easton and Lilly was instantaneous and I laughed out loud more than once. Naturally these two are insanely attracted to each other but as the saying goes, “never mix business with pleasure”, so it’s decided that a relationship between then won’t work but of course they fight the attraction every step of the way.

I like animals but I don’t typically need them to be a part of a storyline but this one was great. Otis was like a third character in the book and he showed up in just the right places. It’s like he was the glue to the story. He was their little “Jiminy Cricket” giving the little pushes and nudges they needed. The funny part for me was the more Easton became attached to Otis (cleverly named due to the elevator), the more I liked him!

Aside from fighting their attraction both Easton and Lilly have personal issues that also plague them. Lilly is in the midst of a lawsuit involving her former employer and the backlash from that has her blacklisted in the industry she worked. She’s sharing an apartment with one of her best friends who supports her but also thinks Lilly might have bitten off more than she can chew. Her father is experiencing a mid-life crisis and has left to explore his dreams while leaving her mother behind to pick up the pieces.

Easton is dealing with his own issues. He has a bit of reputation in hockey, but he now has a coach that is a complete A-hole. He’s verbally abusive to his players and the team morale isn’t the best right now. While he knows he needs to keep a low-profile Easton is finding it harder and harder to keep his keep his head down.

Easton and Lilly find support in each other with everything each is going through which makes this “hands-off’ agreement harder and harder.

This is the first book in a new series and I’m anxious for the next books.

In my head I have affectionately renamed this book “Must Love Dogs, and Hockey, and sunburn”, because that what I got when I was pulled into this love story.

One star...and I’ll tell you why...spoilers ahead...

At 73%, we hear about the accident that killed Easton’s brother and father. The accident is an almost identical retelling of an actual car accident that happened to a real hockey team in 2018 in Canada. I don’t mind past events being brought up in books. BUT...this was teenagers whose lives were taken or ruined...and it was TWO years ago...this is NOT the story to rip from the headlines. It was literally a national tragedy in Canada because there were 16 people killed (as opposed to the bullshit book story that had 14). We mourned as a country because it was essentially children killed...and large scale deaths are NOT the norm in Canada.

She kept the Canadian location the same.
She kept the very detailed list of dead the same (ex athletic director, local radio station personality).
She kept the way the accident happened the same.
She fucking stole a real tragedy for her plot and character development.

This isn’t the story to use...it’s in bad taste. Seriously, I’m disgusted.

And the real team was the Humboldt Broncos....look them up to see the REAL story and not a rip-off told just after the male lead talks about fucking threesomes.

4 Star review of Must Love Dogs & Hockey (Bears Hockey #1) by Kelly Jamieson
I was intrigued with the premise of this book and couldn’t wait to dive in to Must Love Dogs & Hockey. This was a well written romance which had me invested in the story from the first to the last chapter.
The chemistry between Lilly and Easton sizzles and as the intensity grows you could feel the heat. Neither of them were looking for a relationship and yet that is what happens. I loved Easton, this bad boy is swoon worthy, he made me laugh and smile and ticked the boxes for me. I also loved how Lilly gave as good as she got; she was sassy and feisty and even when the chips were down, she stepped up. The banter was witty, add in hockey, a dog and you have an entertaining story.
They both have baggage and this book is about confronting the past, accepting it and learning to trust in one another. Their journey is a rocky one but the love they will find at the end is worth it.
I loved Otis, he really brought Lilly and Easton together and they became a family. If you like dogs and hockey, then Must Love Dogs & Hockey is the book for you.

Love, laughter and happily ever after has gone to the dogs. Jamieson steps up her sense of humor and it aptly steals the show. Must Love Dogs...and Hockey, gives emotion a bit of a breather from the seriousness of life and puts reader in touch with the lighter side of heart that needs a reason to smile.

MUST LOVE DOGS …AND HOCKEY is the first instalment in Kelly Jamieson’s contemporary, adult BEARS HOCKEY erotic, hockey, romance series focusing on the members of the New York Bears professional hockey team. This is professional hockey player Easton Millar, and former hotel hospitality manager Lilly Evans’ story line.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Lily and Easton) MUST LOVE DOGS…AND HOCKEY follows the building romance and relationship between professional hockey player Easton Millar, and former hotel hospitality manager Lilly Evans. Easton Millar has no idea what to do with the dog he rescued from a near elevator mishap until coming face to face with a woman who is willing to dogsit…for a price. Lilly Evans is struggling to make ends meet in the aftermath of being fired for blowing the whistle on a business scam but when professional hockey player Easton Millar begs Lilly to look after a stranger’s dog, our heroine discovers that doggy daycare may be the career path she never knew she wanted. When no one comes to claim ‘Otis’, Easton finds himself falling for both woman and dog, a fall that is threatened as Easton’s professional hockey life slowly spirals out of control. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Easton and Lilly, and the potential fall out as the past threatens to overwhelm our story line hero.

Not all is well in Easton’s professional career as his team endures the physical and emotional abuse of a coach who is unable to see beyond the almighty ‘win’. Pulling from recent real-world accounts in both professional and junior A hockey, Kelly Jamieson weaves a heart breaking tale of loss, betrayal and abuse as Easton must come to terms with what happened in the past, and take the first step in stopping the racism and abuse in both amateur and professional sport. Lilly Evans’ own life is on a downward spiral: her wayward father is embroiled in a midlife crisis; her grandmother got caught up in a time-share scam; Lilly is currently suing her previous employers; she is in debt with the possibility of losing her home; and she has been blacklisted from the hotel hospitality industry.

The relationship between Lilly and Easton begins as a business arrangement when Easton hires Lilly to look after Otis, the dog he rescued from a potential accident. Lilly doesn’t want to mix business with pleasure but a few afternoon lunches and coffees quickly grows into something more. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Lilly’s roommate Carlin, and several members of the Bears Hockey Team- Jamal Jordan aka Jammer, JBo, Owen Cooke aka Cookie, Goose, Larry, Russ, Igor Barbashev aka Barbie, Wendell aka Wendy.

MUST LOVE DOGS… AND HOCKEY is a story of family, friendships, relationships and love; of loss and acceptance; of racism and abuse. The premise is emotional, heart breaking and captivating; the romance is seductive and flirty; the characters are energetic, colorful and fun.

This is the first book that I read of the writer Kelly Jamieson, I enjoyed it very much and I will definitely read more books of this writer.

‘Must love dogs… and hockey’ is the first book in the ‘Bears hockey’ series. It’s an entertaining and easy to read story. There are some funny scenes in it but also a few emotional moments too. The story takes place in New York and the main characters in the story are Easton Millar, a 26 years old hockey player and Lilly Evans, she’s also 26 year old. Lilly just got fired of her latest job when the story starts but during the story she finds a new job, walking dogs. And one of those dogs is Otis, Easton’s dog (puppy), who’s also an important character in this story. He’s so cute.

I really liked both characters. At first glance you would think that Easton’s life was better than Lilly’s but once you got to know him better, you discovered old pain in his heart and a mean coach who was making Easton’s life and that of his team mates very difficult and stressful. Where he once was happy playing hockey, now it made him miserable. Luckily, he could talk to Lilly about this and she encouraged him to do something about it. Lilly herself had a very hard time deciding which career direction she should take at the beginning of the story, but once decided she blossomed and became more confidant. She even became ambitious and made plans for the future. It was great to follow this along with the story (how she worked out her idea of becoming a dogwalker into reality). Although a bad experience in a previous job made her down and depressed, deep down Lilly was a optimistic, hopeful, sensitive person who wanted to do right where there was wrong. She had a friendly nature and she loved dogs.

Easton was very confident when it came to hockey and his profession but in relationships he was more cynical, unsure and closed-off (although he could be charming if he wanted to). A tragedy in his past (when he was 18 years old) had caused him to cut himself off from many things, including entering meaningful relationships. His attention turned completely to hockey. So it was wonderful to see how he became more open towards, not only Lilly but also his teammates. Both Lilly and Easton supported each other when they had a difficult time and they celebrated when something good happened. They were just what the other needed. I liked how their problems in the end were resolved and that we got an epilogue.

The story was told from both POV’s and there were a few steamy sex scenes in it. Like I said, Otis brought cuteness and fun into the story. I really loved him. Easton’s teammates were a fun bunch too, they liked to tease each other but also supported each other.
Lilly’s roommate Carlin and her other friends Adriana and Maya were also good secondary characters, especially Carlin was really there for Lilly when she needed her.

I really enjoyed this story and I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

There are times when you just want to get lost in a good book, knowing that whatever troubles the characters get into, by the end it will have all worked out the way it should. They'll be happy, you'll be happy for them, and maybe you'll feel just a little bit better about the people and the world around you. If you're feeling the need for a happy ending and absorbing read to transport you for a day, Kelly Jamieson's new hockey romance Must Love Dogs . . . and Hockey is for you!

Lilly's life is currently like "the love child of a train wreck and a dumpster fire." She's been fired from a crappy job, no one in her field will hire her, and she's trying to make ends meet by dog-walking. Easton is a hockey player with a coach who is verbally and emotionally abusive, he's dealing (by which I mean, NOT dealing) with lots of emotional baggage, and he seems to have accidentally acquired a dog he doesn't know how to take care of. Neither of them want to open their hearts or trust others for fear of being let down. But there's undeniable chemistry between them and as things heat up, Lilly and Easton will have to decide if they are brave enough to get past their insecurities or if the past will put them in the penalty box for good.

Anyone who's read Jamieson's Aces Hockey series (Playing Hurt, Slap Shot) knows that she's a writer who takes hockey as seriously as romance. Which makes her the perfect author for people like me, who enjoy both. In Must Love Dogs . . .and Hockey, Jamieson gives us a new team, the New York Bears, and new players to love- starting with Easton Millar. He comes off as a bit of a cocky jerk jock, but start getting to know him and you find a man who feels like he's lost everything but hockey, and is willing to put up with pretty much anything to hang on to what he sees as the only thing left in his life. He's afraid to get close to teammates, afraid to get attached to the dog he rescues, and afraid to look too closely at his feelings for Lilly- until it all comes to a head and he has to force himself to look at his life and who he really wants to be. The more I got to know Easton, the more I hurt for him, and the more I hoped he could make himself be brave enough to try for love.

What can I say about Lilly? When she sees people doing something wrong, she acts- even knowing what the consequences to her life could be. She tries to see the good in life, and how she can help make that happen for someone, while at the same time not having an annoying Pollyanna complex. She's the person I hope I would be in her situation.

In Must Love Dogs . . . and Hockey Jamieson gives readers an emotionally satisfying story of love, friendship, bravery, and dogs. Well-written and full of three-dimensional characters you come to love, this was a great book that left me thinking about it long after I'd finished. I hope we see more of Jamieson's Bears hockey team and its players in the future.

A must-read for any sports romance fan, dog lover, and everyone in-between.

With my beloved Canes out of the Cup finals (sad face) I am having to get all my hockey love from my books.

And hockey and dogs? Let me at it!

Lilly and Easton's story is just cute from word one to the last. An if the hockey hottie isn't enough to keep you keen, then add some adorable pooches, and if you are like me, you will find yourself smiling throughout.

It's been a while since I have read a hockey book by Ms Jamieson, however I knew what I was going to get a cocky player and a feisty leading lady. And she did not disappoint.

I am looking forward to more of the Bears in the future. Please don't make me wait too long.

Author Kelly Jamieson is one of my favorite hockey writers...but then throw in a rescue dog and an incredible slow-burn romance and...HAT TRICK!

The dog park "meet cute" where Lilly and Easton meet is great! Easton's backstory is heartbreaking and tragic, yet makes him the focused and infuriating hockey player he is. Lilly has some craziness in hers as well, but again...they wouldn't have met if it weren't for what she went through. Both characters are admirable and strong and it was perfect the way Author Kelly Jamieson blended them together.

I LOVED Otis! He added so much to this romance. The other characters (friends, hockey players, family members) were perfect additions as well, and I enjoyed the relationships and side-storylines about them. The humor was so "in real life" type humor, which made me feel a personal connection to this dual POV read. The “life lessons” in this read were wonderful as well…

“I always wanted to travel and learn new things. But real life got in the way. And then one day you realize…if you don’t do it now, you never will. And in the end, we only regret the chances we didn’t take, the relationships we were afraid to have, and the decisions we waited too long to make.”

The beginning of the book moved a little slowly, but nothing that would turn me away. It was still very enjoyable, just slower paced. However, it really picked up and when I realized I was getting to the end of the book, I didn't want to put it down because I wanted to see how it ended, but I wanted to put it down because I didn't want it to end! I loved the epilogue and can't wait to see what the next book in the Bears Hockey series brings! 4.5 puppy paw prints!

Must Love Dogs...and Hockey is the first book in the Bears Hockey series. It's a Contemporary Romance with a hockey trope. This book starts out really slow and about midway it grabs your attention and then like a flash you are at the finish line. The dog, Otis, is the star of the show and for this to be a short story it's an all around sweet with a no drama story. I give this book a 3.5 stars rating.

Lilly's life right now is in the dumpster. She has been fired from her job, her reputation in the hospitality profession has been wrecked and so she falls back on her love of dogs and starts walking them to make ends meet. Lilly is optimistic that things will workout and is just biding her time when while walking her friends dog at the park it gets attacked. Did things just get worse? It turns out he’s in desperate need of my dog services and he can pay, I need the cash so we make a deal.

Easton is a professional hockey player for the New York Bears and his coach is a major pain and he's not helping with my anger issues. I've taken in an abandoned dog with issues of it's own but I think I have enough problems already.
My new dog, Otis, gets into an altercation with another dog at the park and I get to meet the pretty chick who happens to walk dogs for a living. She's good with Otis, I need someone to walk him and this gives me a reason to see her again. But she keeps turning me down...
Neither of us want or need a relationship at this time. But when you're not looking, they steal your heart and demolish your "I'm not looking for love"...
