My mother died when I was small and my father was killed in a car crash. This was all I knew, orphaned and left to pick up the pieces, a task made more difficult by the three women who hated me most. But then I found out about the possibility that my father’s death wasn’t an accident, the events that followed would forever shape the course of my life. Could I figure out the mystery of my father’s death, keep the growing feelings for the man helping me at bay and stay alive until midnight?
Victoria J. Best writes contemporary romance with a sexy twist. She lives on the east coast with her husband, two kids, and two very spoiled pups. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, baking or crafting (probably in that order).
I am obsessed with fairytale retellings and I’ll never turn down another version of cinderella! I never read this author before but I didn’t blink twice after seeing the cover! The characters were great! I really like how the original storyline was loosely followed all while adding some new twists! When all was revealed my eyes were bugging out! I can not wait to get my hands on the next book.
I simply have to start this review off by talking about how beautiful this cover is because it's absolutely gorgeous. Until Midnight is a modern twist on Cinderella with some highly original differences that I have yet to see in any other versions to date like this one. Iris is our girl whose life hasn't been easy since losing her parents, with her father leaving her with a truly evil stepmother but she has to put up with her because of the way her father's will is written, so she can't leave until she turns a certain age, and while Iris isn't about the money, she sure doesn't want the greedy vile woman to get it so she puts up with a lot. On her final summer at home before the birthday that will release her trust, she ends up meeting a mysterious hottie who has some pretty big secrets. She knows that she shouldn't get close to him since she's trying to learn the truth of her father's death, but those sparks are relentless. The twists are coming in hot, while the family drama is rising with the ball coming up which all leads to a mother of a cliffhanger that left me dying inside! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
This is a retelling of Cinderella that I didn’t see coming. From the moment they meet there is chemistry that both feel but deny. I love how this book has diversity, it makes me want to read a book more. The more time they spend together the more they fall for each other but their meet wasn’t accidental. There are so many twists and turns I didn’t see coming and left me heartbroken. By the end of the book I was left screaming not realizing this was a part of a set. I look forward to the next book in the series to see what is to happen between Amir and Iris. I’m so upset I have to wait.
In a reinvented fairy tale, this author takes her readers on a journey of family, trust, and love. The tale has all the usual characters readers expect to find in Cinderella, though they have unique roles to play in Until Midnight. Just as readers expect, the cliffhanger ending leaves you guessing but dying to know the outcome. Can’t wait to see where the author takes us in book two of the duet. Hopefully Iris will wear the glass slipper.
Iris lost both of her parents; her mother at a young age and her father died in a car accident. His death is a mystery that always weighted heavily. After his death, his will made it clear she would have to live with her horrible stepmom until she reached a certain age. As you can guess, her stepmom and family made her life pure hell. Iris could care less about her inheritance but she doesn’t want an evil woman to get it either. When she meets mysterious Amir, her attraction to him could possibly get in the way even though he may have some answers that could help her situation. Can she keep a level head, keep her growing feelings for Amir out of the way and stay alive until midnight? This was such an exciting read! The author took the original fairytale and created pure magic. It ended up turning into something completely unexpected. The surprising twists and turns were my favorite parts. I love being caught off guard in the best ways. If you love fairytale retellings, you really need to give this a try! I loved all the characters from the original story playing their parts in this version. The cliffhanger just about did me in but I will be immediately jumping into the next book in this duet. This is my honest opinion, freely given.
