The Gift of Life to Save Us… The Gift of Death will Free Us…
Escaping the Fire Empire has allowed Serg, Nola, and Blur time to rest, but how long can they wait? Telson, Kern, and Regel have been taken prisoner, or are they already dead? The Fire Empire struggles to rise back to its former glory, while both internal and external forces look to tear it apart. Emperor Gander’s precarious hold may not be enough, even with the StarStone Bloodline at his back. Torn between new allies and the fate of their friends, the trio of Serg, Nola, and Blur must find a way to save their friends, while not becoming the next causalities of the Fire Empire. Realizing their path lay back in the empire they left behind, they must navigate their way back. Even as the prophecies of the FireNight are starting to take shape.
Every hand played can mean life or death, but the house always has the odds in its favor, and Time is the dealer.
Darren Boeck is an avid reader of both science fiction and fantasy novels. Writer of Adult/YA Epic Fantasy. When not working on this current series, he can be found navigating life with his wife, four daughters, and two dogs.
The FireNight prophecy continues to unviel itself in this intriguing and exciting second installment. With action happening across the kingdoms, there us quite the ensemble of character to follow, not unlike that which you'd see in GoT. My favorite storyline was the one that followed Serg, Nola, and Blur, as well as their newfound allies. I don't want to give anything away, but I will say I was particularly interested in the sharing, as well as the development of the life stones. An excellent read if you like epic fantasy with lots of moving cogs.
‘Essence of Life’ is book two of Darren Boeck’s FireNight Prophecies.
This is a YA fantasy book and follows on from Gifts of Fire and Ice. I will not give any synopsis since I do not want to give any spoilers to those that have not yet read the first book.
I enjoyed this second offering from Darren Boeck very much. The writing style is quirky and different and much in the same vein as book one although the storytelling, I think, has matured and is more assured. I enjoyed the growing relationships between the various characters. I liked the magic system, especially as Nola and Serg grew into their powers. I also liked the change that Blur undergoes from likeable sidekick to something other.
The action was fast-paced and the story rattled along with new players coming to the fore. If you like YA Fantasy and enjoyed book one then you will love book two.
It absolutely boggles my mind how an author can think up names of people, cities, groups, powers, etc. This book was one of those. It was just genius. I could hardly keep up with the fast pace of this book. A real page turner for sure. Now I wish I would have read book 1 first, so I knew more. This read will not disappoint. I loved it.
This one took awhile to grab my attention. The additional characters took awhile to understand and follow. The Plotline didn’t make as much sense. After I was about 25% thru the book, it grabbed my attention. I enjoyed following Serg, Nola, and Blur thru their adventures. It is a good storyline.
