In Regency England, news travels slowly. Especially in Yorkshire.

Overnight, Kathleen Harris, a foundling raised by a vicar and his wife, becomes the ward of the Earl of Wiltshire and is set on a direct path to a London season. Now miles from home, will her heart outgrow her small Yorkshire village and the love of her childhood friend?

Reuben Cooke, a quality weaver in a region where the woolen industry thrives, supports his widowed mother and hopes to marry soon. However, after the local vicar dies, his dreams of a quiet life with Kathleen at his side quickly unravel as they are ripped apart by societal conventions.

Can true love survive the distance when the road back to happily-ever-after is littered with secrets, a scandal, and a shocking revelation?

If you like faith-based fiction, sweet romance, and satisfying emotional reunions, then you’ll love this Regency era tale from the Within the Castle Gates series by Candee Fick. Get The Lost Heir and be spun into another world.

That cover is beautiful. It makes you want to go visit there. I really enjoyed this Regency, faith filled, well-written story. There was a bit of mystery discovering who The Lost Heir is and the story behind it. I liked the main characters a lot. Friends to more is one of my favorites! Highly recommend!

Kathleen, a foundling brought up by the local vicar and his wife, has an agreement with her childhood friend Reuben that they will marry, and her adoptive father has agreed but said that there questions of inheritance that must be sorted out first. When he dies unexpectedly following an accident, Kathleen's life is turned upside-down, because it has been arranged that his friend, an earl, will bring Kathleen out. The temporary separation between Kathleen and Reuben that this entails is hard for both, but the secrets that the vicar was hiding may separate them permanently... Will each be able to remember and really believe that their true Father and heritage are in heaven?

A clean Regency romance from a somewhat unusual point of view - someone who grew up with no expectation of any such position and is already virtually engaged to someone not part of the ton. The emphasis on God as our father was well done and appropriate for a couple who are each fatherless, and the snippets about weaving and mills was interesting too. All in all, a good read - though I must confess that I prefer the author's contemporary novels.

Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.

The Lost Heir, Book Three in the Within the Castle Gates series, is a sweet Regency romance that you won't want to miss. It is definitely a stand alone novel.

Reuben and Kathleen both are of humble means, but are full of love for each other and their families. They are looking forward to their upcoming marriage when circumstances change for both of them. They remain true to themselves and their love. Kathleen's intelligence, loyalty, and plain-spokenness influences even more people. Reuben's hard work and vision come to fruition as his ingenuity helps many in his village and the surrounding area to better themselves.

It was such a blessing to read this story and see how everything worked out for the good - not just for Reuben and Kathleen, but for those close to them, as well.

Readers of Christian fiction and Regency romance will certainly enjoy this book.

I received an e-ARC of this book from the author for review purposes. The thoughts expressed here are my own.

THE LOST HEIR is book 3 in this series of novellas. I will readily admit that I am not a fan of historicals, and this one starts with the mandatory death.... sigh. But it got the heroine where she needed to be.

The story was told more than shown, and seemed rather disjointed, but it all fell together when unexpected plot twist (to me) made it come alive and hard to put down.

Fans of Regencies will devour this novella and beg for more by this author.

I really loved this story!!! This series is a hidden gem, I wish I could encourage more people to read them!
The MMC and FMC were both loved and cared for in a small village where they grew up as friends but loved each other and planned to wed. Missing pieces of their backgrounds, sad circumstances, and nobility reaching out to help the child of a recently deceased friend causing a separation all made for a thrilling tale! The good, the bad and the ugly all existed in these pages. There was GREAT faith content throughout.

Wonderful story!

The Lost Heir is an amazing book of past mistakes and redemption. The characters are very well developed and extremely likeable and the interweaving of their stories is masterful. I love this author’s portrayal of the Christian character and values of the persons in the story. It is so refreshing to read a wholesome Regency romance and I highly recommend this book to anyone that likes clean Regency romance!

Love this series. Not only is there romance in this book - more than one but also more than one mystery. It was interesting to read how loss can often turn into a great blessing. Many are affected by the past as well as the future. Great descriptions but not overdone - made me feel like I was with the characters. A really good ending.

A good read...

BUT in need of a good proofreader. However, unless you're like me and see every little mistake, you won't be bothered or taken out of the refreshing, twisted, entertaining plot! My only true frustration is not finding out the true identity of one of the main characters! Ugh!

The Lost Heir will have you wondering who Reuben's father is! Reuben wonders if he is illegitimate but I knew his father would turn up when his mother doesn't give any details of her past! I really liked Kathleen who was left on the doorstep of the vicar and his wife as an infant. Kathleen is a good daughter who loves Reuben and wants to marry him but follows her guardian's wishes to have a season in London first. This was not your usual regency romance. I recommend The Lost Heir to others. I received a complimentary e-book from the author. This is my honest opinion.
