As someone who's struggled with feeling confident, I found Anna's take on unbreakable confidence to be a refreshing change from many other books out there about developing confidence. I've often felt like authors really didn't understand the deeper challenges I experienced with confidence--In this book, I felt Anna has truly walked her path and can understand my (the reader's):) challenges on a deep level.
There are some deeply spiritual concepts hidden inside this book! Confidence comes from being with our weaknesses and vulnerabilities just as much as our strengths. It's through falling up and getting back up again that we build confidence. She also brings in scientific perspective to give us some insights to why our brains may be wired the way they are! Overall, I felt inspired after her book to take action and move towards my goals, feeling more lightness and playfulness in the pursuit of them... and isn't that the whole thing we are seeking with confidence? So, what do you know... Confidence snuck right in! :)
"Begin to notice that thinking is happening all the time -- and recognize that these thoughts arise and come and go. Treat them as thoughts, without believing they are true. Watch your thoughts come and go like clouds, coasting through clear blue sky."
I think this would be an amazing read for a teenager/young adult. Anyone struggling with confidence will be helped with this but I definitely will be getting this for my teenager.
This is great for anyone who needs to figure out how they can be more confident in their everyday life. I’ll be personally referring to it when I feel like I can’t achieve something.
Incredible book! I am learning so much about what confidence really is. Great read. Highly recommend. It will get you thinking! Thanks, Anna, for helping me gain a new perspective on growing confidence!
Be Bold is written as the title declares “A Guide to unbreakable confidence”. As the author suggests, to get the most out of the book, you likely should go through a chapter at a time, do the exercises and practice before moving on to the next one. I read the book straight through, doing most of the exercises along the way. Nothing is earth shattering to learn, but the author does a great job of connecting the ideas into an actionable journey. The book is an easy read with stories interspersed to add credibility to the book’s ideas. I recommend this for someone looking for motivation to improve their life by defining and working toward a personal vision - and generally trying to live their best life (to use a cliche).
When I requested Be Bold from Netgalley, I was looking to branch out from what I ‘normally’ read. Lately I’ve been branching out into reading things to help my mental state. I thought this would be a fantastic addition to that mental arsenal I’ve been building up.
I like the bright colors in the book. It really helped pick out these sections and made the subject matter–which has the potential to not be all that fun–feel exciting and fresh and fun. Goldstein also did a good job on relating to the readers by explaining times in her life where she wasn’t quite so confident.
I found I didn’t get all that much out of it. A lot of the content seemed outwardly focused, not quite in a ‘fake it ’til you make it’ way, but in stating that to be confident, you must be working to do something that will benefit others. I think the problem with this is that I’m not sure I agree with the core concept, so reading a ‘philosophy’ I didn’t think was accurate soured things a little bit for me.
Another roadblock I ran into was that while Goldstein told us a lot about her own journey to ‘confidence,’ her personal story was a bit scattered, and while it wasn’t necessary, the disjointed nature made it hard to form a timeline of how things ‘might’ look if I was to follow her philosophy.
If you’ve never picked up a ‘self-help’ book, and you’re looking for some tips to gain some confidence and achieve your goals, I’d recommend this to you. It’s light, and fun, and very easy to read. Sometimes, books of this nature can be confusing and jargon-y, but not this one. And, like I said, the colorful pages make it really fun to keep turning them, and the activities do make you think and get a little introspective, which is always nice.
(Actual rating 2.5, rounded up as always)
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I was so excited to start this book but it completely missed the mark for me! I would still recommend it to anyone who's never read books on this topic since, compared to others, this one is an easy breezy read.
I'm new to the self-help book realm, so I don't have a lot of books to which I can compare this one. I enjoyed the writing style of the author and the various exercises designed to help someone find their innate confidence. The book is bold and is divided into 9 easy to digest chapters, each with a new lesson. I definitely feel more in tune with my confidence after reading this book.
A great book to start with. Picked it up because I liked that it is colourful and fun. It is positive and fun but felt like I’ve read a longer post on social media not a book. Still give it a try.
