Sasuke and Naruto find that their powers are ever-increasing. Sasuke can now use the Mangekyo Sharingan in multiple ways, and Naruto may have become even more powerful than his fallen sensei, Jiraiya! But is anyone powerful enough to stop the ultimate attack as the Pains of the Akatsuki launch their deadly strike against Naruto's home village?!
Masashi Kishimoto (岸本斉史 Kishimoto Masashi) is a Japanese manga artist, well known for creating the manga series Naruto. His younger twin brother, Seishi Kishimoto, is also a manga artist and creator of the manga series O-Parts Hunter (666 Satan) and Blazer Drive. Two of his former assistants, Osamu Kajisa (Tattoo Hearts) and Yuuichi Itakura (Hand's), have also gone on to moderate success following their work on Naruto.
Kishimoto's first work as a manga artist was Karakuri (カラクリ?), which he submitted to Shueisha in 1995. This earned him the Weekly Shōnen Jump's monthly "Hop Step Award" in 1996, granted to promising new manga artists. This was followed in 1997 by a pilot version of Naruto (NARUTO-ナルト-), published in Akamaru Jump Summer. In 1998, Kishimoto premiered as a Weekly Shōnen Jump artist with a serialized version of Karakuri in Weekly Shōnen Jump, but it proved unpopular and was canceled soon after. In 1999, a serialized version of Naruto began publication in Weekly Shōnen Jump and quickly became a hit.
The first half deals with Sasuke fighting the rapper Bee dude and honestly I don't care lol. This fight is so weird, the stereotype with the black ninja has to be rapping is dumb, and this fight isn't all that intriguing.
Saying that we move on to Naruto training and it's pretty great to see him deal with his grief while getting stronger. I also liked how we just kick it into high gear at the end where Pain begins to attack the village. Finally...we about to get some heat.
About half of this volume is wasted on Sasuke's boring fight, while the other half focuses on Naruto's training and Pain and Konan's assault on Konoha. The anime did a way better job at handling the assault by expanding one-panel sections to minutes-long scenes. It built a sense of tension and allowed secondary and minor characters to have some proper screen time. Tsunade's summoning segment was also way more epic in the anime. This is definitely not the way I expected one of the best Part II arcs to start in the manga.
Pain and Konan have successfully infiltrated Konoha. They are killing anyone who stands in their way of finding Naruto. Naruto has mastered the Sage Jutsu even better then Jiraiya. Sasuke's battle with Killer Bee comes to a close. However Killer Bee slips under the radar and escapes. Tsunade and the rest of Konoha are fighting to protect their home from the Akatsuki. They send a messenger frog to relay all the information they have gained on Pain and to recall Naruto. Except Danzo intercepts the messenger, what does Danzo have up his sleeve???
It wasn't bad, just more of the same. More of Naruto's training and grief, with a "book within a book" device that works surprisingly well. Also, more of Sasuke's fight with Bee and his Eight-tails companion... Bleeeh, how can these fighting scenes be so terribly boring?? Naruto's "one with nature" training requiring total concentration is so much more interesting. This volme ramps up the tension in the last part, however, when it introduces the new element: Pain descend(s) on Konoha and wreak(s) havoc. These scenes are cool, though, showcasing the power of Pain - even Kakashi is hard pressed to keep up with these new weird powers of an enigmatic villain. Also, Danzo, this incredibly nasty character is so well depicted in just a few scenes.
Truth be told, as I read these volumes one after another I can't recall where one ended and the next begun... So, at least transition was smooth ;)
Naruto's powers are increasing and he has to gather all his strength because Pain is not going to sit around. On the other side, Raikage becomes furious when he realizes that Sasuke has captured his brother Killer Bee, his brother and the Jinchuriki of Eight-tails. He calls for a summit but he has no idea that Konoha is under attack by Pain.
The end of Naruto’s sage training and the beginning of the battle for Konoha! Pain is truly an epic antagonist and this is one of most intense arcs so far!
Pain is one of the most unique villains I have ever read. He is just fantastic. No idea how Kishimoto came up with him. His design and function are really interesting.
After hearing the news of Eight-Tails kidnapping, Raikage calls for the meeting of Gokage. Pain infiltrates the Konoha and is wreaking havoc while the shinobi of Konohagakure are trying everything in their power to counter him. Naruto's sage training went really well and became stronger than ever. That guy never ceases to amaze me. He is now Konoha's only hope.

See this is some good shit right here. I’ll take this volume. I love pain. I think they’re so cool. Also I swear, if Kakashi dies. I will not finish this series.
Once upon a time, the spirit of an evil Nine Tailed Fox wreaked havoc on Konohagakure; the Village Hidden in the Leaves, killing hundreds of honorable ninja in the skirmish and leaving many children without homes or parents. The Fourth Hokage (leader of the village) unleashes a forbidden jutsu (magic spell/ninja ability) to seal the spirit of the evil fox into the body of a newborn baby named Naruto at the cost of his own life. He did this in the hopes that the boy could one day learn to master the power of the demonic spirit and use it to protect the village and become a great hero of the people.
Unknown to the citizens of the Leaf, the Nine Tailed Fox was being controlled by an even more powerful adversary, a legendary rogue ninja that plans to wage war against the entire world from the shadows. The identity of the mysterious ninja that attacked the Leaf Village using the Nine Tails died with the Fourth Hokage, and he used what remained of his life to gift Naruto with the power of one day being able to stop this evil ninja and a clan of outlawed S-rank criminals called the Akatsuki from committing mass genocide against the many hidden villages and clans of the world.
Because of the evil spirit sealed inside him, Naruto grew up hated by the other children of the village because they believe him and the Nine Tails to be one and the same. They believe he’s a ticking time bomb waiting to go off, waiting for the perfect moment to kill them all just like the Nine Tails killed their parents and families. Shunned, dehumanized and treated like dirt, Naruto vows to become the greatest hokage the world has ever seen so that he can receive the love and acknowledgement he never got as a child.
On top of the Nine Tails power and the will to never quit, Naruto also possesses the uncanny ability to turn everyone he meets into a potential comrade. He brings out the best in his peers and tries his hardest to make his enemies see the errors of their ways. He disobeys the rules and ignores cultural traditions to try and make changes to the world and break the eternal cycle of war and hatred through his own methods. His determination is infectious to friend and foe alike. He earns himself the respect he deserves by overcoming one impossible obstacle at a time.
Naruto encounters many fascinating and terrifying ninja over the course of his journey to become hokage. Among them are Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto’s best friend and rival who is driven by the vengeful lust to murder his elder brother after he wiped out their own clan in cold blood. Sasuke warms up to Naruto, but his hatred and trauma are dangerous forces that threaten to break his moral code as a ninja and destroy his reputation among his peers.
Kakashi Hatake is a notorious copycat ninja that survived one of the most brutal and devastating wars in history as well as the Nine Tails attack on the Leaf Village. He becomes Naruto and Sasuke’s mentor and teaches them a great number of valuable lessons about surviving in the dangerous world of rogue ninja, bloodthirsty assassins and clans ruled by corruption.
Jiraiya is a perverted yet wise sage who taught the Fourth Hokage everything he knew and he’s regarded as a god among shinobi that’s famous for his heroic actions in the second great ninja war. He takes an interest in Naruto and raises him as a father figure to carry on the legacy of the Fourth Hokage to prepare him for the many dangerous people that want to use his power for their own nefarious purposes.
The Akatsuki is one such group of wicked ninja. Among them are Sasuke’s brother Itachi who murdered his clan and possesses many dangerous techniques involving illusions, psychological torture and elemental manipulation. Sasori who controls poisonous puppets with magical threads, Orochimaru who mastered the forbidden arts of reanimation and quasi-immortality, Deidara who fights from afar using detonating clay and many other deadly foes.
The entire series chronicles Naruto and his fellow ninja comrades growing through countless trials and tragedies. There are hundreds of unique jutsus, clans, and techniques which lead to some very intense, creative and strategic battles between skilled ninja with diverse abilities that don’t always match up evenly. There are clan based abilities such as the Aburame clan’s ability to control insects, the Yamanaka clan’s ability to jump into other people’s minds and control their bodies and the Inuzuka clan’s ability to bond with wolves that learn to mimic their master’s battle skills. Then there’s ocular genetic abilities such as the sharingan which allows the user to create psychological illusions, copy their enemy’s abilities and manipulate elemental energy. The byakugan allows the user to read their enemies vital points and detect their spiritual energy from faraway. The rinnegan grants control over space and gravity and so on.
On top of having countless unique abilities, nearly every character has a tragic backstory that makes them sympathetic and relatable, even the nastiest of the villains have well-explored reasons for following the paths they do and becoming the way they are. One of my favorite aspects of the series is how well it explores the physical, emotional and psychological effects war can have on society and culture as well as the survivors and future generations that are forced to live in them. How it breeds racism and cultural disputes, how it inspires hatred in orphaned children and war veterans robbed of their homes toward foreign nations, as well as how this eventually leads to further death, war, poverty and destruction. Learning to forgive the ones you hate to prevent further conflict and damaging the world for future generations even further is a major theme throughout the story.
Being a massive 700 chapter series, it’s not too surprising that there’s some plot holes and consistency issues. A rule might be stated regarding the requirements and usage of a certain jutsu or ability only for that rule to be repeatedly broken 400 chapters later. Sometimes the characters and rules contradict themselves, sometimes the chronology of certain events and historical facts don’t match up perfectly, the lore and general backstory go through several retcons that change the philosophy and power scaling of the characters and the scope of world-building; the final arc especially drags on and breaks a lot of the logic and rules that the story spent the whole series setting up, etc...
Naruto’s far from perfect, but I remember it very fondly for being one of the first series that introduced me to things like manga and Japanese entertainment in general. It was one of those childhood classics like Dragon Ball, Inuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho and Rurouni Kenshin. The series grew up with me and I can’t help but feel grateful to it for introducing me to hundreds of other franchises that I’m still a huge fan of to this day and I continue to find many new ones on the regular. Naruto's journey from a clownish, disrespected outcast into a talented, well-loved and admired hero is a memorable one.
I would have rated this 3.5 or 4 stars but it focused too much on I-blame-everyone-else-for-my-problems-wo-is-me-boy than on the interesting stuff. I know it's ironic (am I using this word correctly?) considering what this series is about.
I mentioned in my reviews of some of the previous volumes that I have watched the anime up to a certain arc a few years ago and don’t know why I never finished it and that now I decided to read the manga starting from vol. 28 so that I can remember everything that happened again, read some of my favourite parts and finally finish it.
We are now in the Pain arc and this is the arc I remember the most vividly. I think it might be because of how dark and destructive it gets. I'll get to that after I talk about what happens in the beginning of this volume. The first few chapters are boring and I skimmed through them. It basically continues Sasuke's fight against Killer Bee, which is pretty boring since I'm not here for anything Sasuke. It's not surprise that I hate Shippuden Sasuke and am still not sure how I feel about adult Sasuke since that doesn't make his stupid behaviour as a teenager go away. You want to kill everyone in the Leaf Village because of what a few elders did? Most of the village didn't even know about all that but they should still be punished? Some people were really young kids at the time? Some weren't even born yet? How does punishing then even make sense? I think this is when I drew the line back when I got to this part during the anime. I was thinking that I don't care how they end his character arc, there is no redeeming him for me and I was right, I still feel the same even after knowing how he is in the future. I'm sorry what happened with your brother but YOU let your anger get the better of you instead of accepting other people's help and trying to figure out why he did what he did before trying to get revenge. It's YOUR fault, but instead of accepting that it's his fault, he blames it on someone else. I hate those kinds of people and no amount of redemption will make me like this narcissistic brat. He finds out the truth about his brother and now all of a sudden he wants vengeance for him? Yeah right, it's more likely that he just wants to blame someone for why he isn't happy and satisfied after killing someone he wanted to kill for years, that's how it usually is with people like him. He has no reason left for living, so he looks for one and this is what he comes up with, absolutely disgusting😡 A few months ago I watched some people on youtube's reactions to some of the episodes and I am shocked that people still didn't hate him and still wanted him to win his battles. I'm sorry, what?! How can people still sympathize which this monster after this point? I shouldn't be so surprised because people sympathizing with Pain and Tobi after learning their back story is a thing. It's amazing to me that people will sympathize with these characters after everything they've done just because they had a sad back story. That's no excuse for what they did. Are you going to sympathize with Hitler because his back story was pretty sad to? No of course not because there's no excuse for all of the horrible things he did and was planning on doing. So why is it ok to sympathize with these clowns? Is it because Naruto says a few beautiful words to them and the change immediately? I don't forgive that easily. Look at Naruto, he had a terrible past but he doesn't go around killing people because that's not going to solve anything and he knows it. Sorry for getting a bit off topic, I just wanted to get it off my chest, I will probably talk about this again in my review of the volume where the truth about Pain is revealed. One of the reasons why Naruto is not one of my top favourite anime or manga is because it feels like no big villain can just be a twisted villain like Father from Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood or the mastermind in the Bleach Arrancar arc (not going to say the name since surprisingly some people have not been spoiled on that and I want to keep it that way), apparently they all have to be redeemed. I'm so tired and bored of these kinds of villains in pop culture. Give me a variety of villains. I know people like villains who have a sad back story but I'm tired of it. Give them a good back story but don't try make me sympathize with them and try to redeem them because it'll just make me hate them even more. The rare exception to this is Itachi. He never had any bad intentions, He's like Naruto, he only wanted good things for people. I don't think I ever really hated him like I hate Sasuke and Pain, so that might be part of why I can easily like him so much.
Anyways, lets get back to when the good stuff happens. the rest of this volume focuses on Naruto's training, which is interesting, and on the beginning of Konan and Pain's assault against the Leaf Village. I'm going to have to agree with the reviewers on here that the anime did a better job with it by expanding the things that happened, whereas the manga feels like the scenes are being rushed. When it comes to Naruto part 2/Shippuden, they do a better job in the anime with the pacing whereas in the case of Bleach they do a better job with the pacing in the manga in many cases (although I still enjoy watching the fights in the anime even though there's lots of padding with unnecessary flashbacks and stretching scenes for too long). The more I read the manga, the more I think my decision to skip Boruto and just read a summary of how it ends when it finally ends is a good choice. No offense to anyone who wants to read/watch Boruto and is enjoying it, it's just not something I'm interested in after seeing the movie when it came out and the first 3 episodes of Boruto for so many reasons even though I always love seeing the main characters in my favourite stories getting married, having kids and just seeing what their future is like (Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood has the perfect ending and despite how many Ichiruki shippers were mad about the ending of Bleach, which is how I got spoiled on it, thanks annoying shippers always ruing fandoms, I think it was a good ending) but I just can't follow someone like Boruto around plus Sasuke is in ti too.
Again, sorry for this review getting off topic and being all over the place. Sasuke declaring that he will destroy the Hidden Leaf Village including punishing innocent people who had nothing to do with his wo is me problems was the final nail in the coffin for me. It was one thing watching it in the anime years ago but it's even worse seeing it again. I love revenge stories but only when they're done right and when they don't go after innocents, especially innocent children who have no idea what's going on. I had sympathy for Sasuke in part 1 and even the beginning of part2 but enough is enough.
Sasuke's battle with Killer Bee quickly becomes intense. Jugo, Suigetsu, and Karin are all willing to sacrifice themselves for him. They think that they have defeated Killer Bee and give his body to the Akatsuki. Sasuke swears to kill the three elders responsible for making Itachi kill his clan and ruin his life.
Naruto continues to master sage mode. the grandfather toad gives him the first book Jiraiya wrote: Tales of a Gutsy Shinobi whose main character Naruto is named after. He remembers Jiraiya talking about how he felt the shinobi world has too much hatred.
In the village of lightning, Killer Bee's brother (the raikage) finds out that the Akatsuki/Sasuke have taken his brother. He sends Killer Bee's students to investigate.
Pain takes all six of his bodies to attack Konohana and capture Naruto. Meanwhile, the Akatsuki realize Sasuke has failed and brought them a shadow clone of Killer Bee. Killer Bee escaped an is taking a holiday to visit his friend Enka. He apparently is forced to constantly be in the village since he is a jinchuriki and not entirely trusted.
Kakashi fights one of the Pains. Meanwhile, the Konoha ninja realize Pain's bodies are reanimated corpses which have surgically inserted chakra receivers. Tsunade decides to recall Naruto back to the village to help against the attack. Danzo and the elders disagree with her and Danzo kills the toad messenger once Tsunade leaves. Kakashi is having trouble fighting two of Pain's bodies.
Naruto number 45's characters are Naruto, Sasuke, Pain, Killer Bee, and many more. The book starts out with Sasuke, Suigetsu, Karin, and Jugo are fighting Killer Bee everybody is very powerful in the fight. About half way through Killer Bee summons a monster called 8 tails which is very strong. Sasuke's term is on the run until Sasuke uses black fire. The black fire then gets out of control and Karin gets hit with it and starts burning Sasuke then stops using the powerful fire and has Jugo try to rescue her. He gets her just in time but she is badly hurt. But some how eight tails survived but barely. They have orders to take Killer Bee (eight tails) to the Akatsuki head quarters. Meanwhile Naruto is getting trained by his fallen sensei's teacher. He is learning a move called sage mode. Which makes him stronger. Then suddenly at Naruto's home village intruders come they are called Pain. There are 7 of them they are very strong and they start tearing apart the village the Warriors of the village stand up but are still no match. People are beaing attacked then Tsunade says recall Naruto And the fight goes on. The end.

Sementara Naruto sedang belajar menguasai senjutsu. Sebenarnya volume-volume setelah time skip saya agak kecewa karena tidak diceritakan perjalanan Jiraiya dan Naruto. Ternyata memang dipersiapkan untuk menguras air mata di momen-momen kedepan.
“I can tell that hatred is becoming the dominating force in the shinobi world.”
“If i don’t end up finding the answer, i’m leaving the job to you.”
Tah Naruto dengekeun.
Sepertinya saya tahu kenapa kisah akhir Jiraiya dan Itachi dibuat berdampingan. Mereka berdua tentu berbeda jika dilihat sekilas. Tapi tujuan hidup mereka benar-benar sama. Membawa perdamaian.

How dare Danzo kill that lovely little toad! He was so cute. Another reason to despise this man. I suppose there's also the fact that he sees Naruto as a weapon and not a person. What is he even thinking? If Naruto is trapped in Mount Myoboku, you're gonna lose and die. There will be no you to control him for power. It doesn't add up. He truly can't be thinking this is in the village's interest. Just another power grab from a second-rate man.
While our boy is in froggy paradise learning new skills, everything is going down in Konoha. The Sixth Paths of pain are in attendance and they're coming for everyone. Kakashi saving Iruka is so iconic to me. I was just waiting for it. Thus begins his trials with Tendo Pain as one of many Konoha shinobi fighting for their village and sort of to protect Naruto. The Pain's are wreaking absolute havoc in the village and everyone, except the counsellors apparently, are busy with the battle. I like all the action, it keeps me reading and the switch between different fights in the one major battle is entertaining. The fights aren't too drawn out which is an issue the story has later.
Backtracking a little, chapter 416 is absolutely delightful. Naruto reads Jiraiya's heart in his first book "Tales of a gutsy Shinobi" and reminisces about their heart to heart. "For Jiraiya boy clearly bequeathed his all to him." It is so very clear he loved him and Naruto is going to live up to this legacy. Child of prophecy for sure, his hair looks like a halo over his head in this flashback (page 161). "I feel redeemed by your smiling face...I'm glad I made you my student." It's so nice to see Naruto being loved after all this trauma.
We also get to hear more of another jinchuriki who is loved, a true rarity. Bee is also treated as a weapon by his village and has tricked Sasuke (ha!) so that he can be free to pursue his music. Leaving bereft, his Raikage and students, in rivers of tears. I honestly don't mind the rapping.
The volume started with the end of the Bee vs Taka fight with Sasuke having to go to great lengths to get a leg from Bee. Nice to see him being made a fool. It's a very entertaining battle and the conclusion/aftermatch are great too. Little Jugo was so cute and it was interesting to know that Sasuke can't let go of the Konoha philosophy of teamwork. But knowing what I know of future events, is it really teamwork or does he just need them for now and thus, is willing to save them as important tools? I believe it can be both. Nostalgia after a traumatic event is spurring his emotions, but he's also an overly dramatic lunatic who will use people and throw them away when he's in the throes of his revenge.
- Sasuke tried to capture Killer Bee in his genjutsu but, Killer Bee managed to escape the genjutsu because genjutsu didn't work on Jinchuuriki who can control Tailed-Beast. - Killer Bee used his special move, Lariat to Sasuke. Samui, Karui and Omoi were sent to Konoha. - It is revealed that Killer Bee managed to escape. What Sasuke captured is just a fragment of Hachibi. - Naruto trained to master Sage Mode. Fukasaku gave him Jiraiya's first novel, Tale of the Gutsy Ninja. - Finally, Naruto mastered Sage Mode. Then, Fukasaku teaches him Frog Kata. - Pain and Konan were arrived at Konoha and starting their mission to capture Naruto. - Six Path of Pains are consist of Deva Path, Asura Path, Human Path, Animal Path, Preta Path and Naraka Path. - Tsunade alarmed all the shinobi and ready for Battlefield Konoha. - Kakashi faced off two Pain, Deva Path and Asura Path. - Chouji and his father, Chouza come as a reinforcement.
