Her eyes bulge out. Her mouth is open in a silent scream. The filming begins. Sara Caine wants nothing more to do with murder and ghosts. Catching the bad guys is for people like former LAPD Detective Eva Murphy. But when Johan Luken shows up at the film set she’s working on with a snuff film in hand, he plunges her back into danger and then promptly disappears. Aided by Eva Murphy, Sara uncovers a series of missing actresses stretching back decades, their bodies never found. As they unravel the mystery of the film, Sara finds these disappearances are connected to her parents’ murder years before. As she struggles to keep her sanity, a killer more powerful than any they’ve encountered gets ready for a final showdown.
I read the entire series, bc let’s be honest, you always want to know what happens to the characters. What a disappointment.
Book 1: this book was pretty good and that’s what pulled me in to read book 2 (more on that later). I understand there is a process when writing a series, but there was so much lacking. First, Sara, how old is she? I kept thinking she was in her mid-20s. Not sure, bc she loved Johan for 15 years. But then she says he worked with her father, so 🤷🏻♀️. Second, Johan, give us a bit more. Explain his history and background. I WANTED to know more about him and why he was chasing Asmodeus.
Book 2: this one was all about Eva and a smidge of Sara. Fine. What drove me crazy was how Sara kept saying she wanted to be a PI and was hoping Eva would be her mentor. All I got from her was whining. Yes, she had been thru hell in book 1, but what a wimp. She never talked with Eva about this, just assumed she would. This book was the beginning of the down fall. There were so many inconsistencies, esp when it came to her time in limbo and her return. Not remembering her parent’s conversation and the mention of the ring. It’s like they were purposefully making her a wimp.
Book 3: I feel the author was on a deadline and that these books were self published. The editing was HORRIBLE. Why, why, did she continue to use the characters full names?? We know who they are! Once at the beginning of the book is fine (if reading as a stand alone), but every chapter??!? All the way thru the book??! Editor be shamed. So many grammatical/editing errors. This book SHOULD have been a wrap up and informative on all the characters lives and issues, it lacked … significantly. One page for Asmodeus’s demise, so boring. A few pages for Anderson to leave Eva, hmmm. No resolution for Sara, shameful. And Johan, ugh. No epilogue?
So disappointed in this series. It could have been so much better.
I just finished this book and I'm honestly not sure how I feel about the end of the series...I hope the author decides to keep this one going as there are still some unanswered questions. Overall I enjoyed this book the least of the series but as a whole the Ghosts of Los Angeles books are worth a read.
Though the story was interesting, and the prose itself was easy to read, there were a lot of gaps, typos and continuity errors in this book. It felt like it was rushed and not edited or proofread. The ending also left me feeling unsatisfied.
Interesting continuation of the Ghost of LA series. The character growth with Sara and Eve was very good and I found overall the story line fascinating. Yet again more cliffhangers but was a fun quick read
likeable characters a few mistakes that editors should have spotted though. would read more from this author. The third and final book in this particular series and it was one I enjoyed. I would like to read more with the main character Sara in. There is definitely scope for more with these characters. I found these were likeable characters and an interesting plot. There were however a few mistakes that editors should have spotted. I definitely would read more from this author.
