I was mildly disappointed with how the first chapter (Chapter 31) wrapped up - it made Soma's arrest and release very anti-climatic.
In the second and third chapters (Chapter 32 and 33), we see a bit more character development as Kanoko tries to make herself even more useful by handing out flyers and trying to solve a mystery on her own (she still has a lot to learn!)
The last two chapters (34 and 35) follows a new story arc where Soma and Kanoko travel to visit Soma's brother, Atsushi. We start to learn more about Soma's past and upbringing while also stumbling across a mystery surrounding Atsushi's betrothed.
The Chiyo subplots are not a great way to start a volume, but I like this sudden multi volume arc being set up. This feels like a pickup for the next few volumes more than anything else. Kanoko's fear of losing what she has and Souma's slowly opening up is fun to see.
High 4 stars. Side quest story, short sandal mystery, and now some background and slow development with the lead detective. I really am enjoying this mystery series.
"It was because we didn't listen to your story more earnestly. If we had, you wouldn't have lied." "People lie, so we have to doubt them. And because we doubt them, people lie. Both of us became warped and lost sight of each other."
Another very great volume that I super enjoyed!
I love seeing Chiyo open up the story because you know it's sure to be a fun time with her involved, and boy was it! LOL! Not only did I laugh a whole bunch when reading it, but I thought it was fun seeing what was happening when everything was going down with Mr. Iwai. It was nice to see that Kanoko wasn't the only one giving her all to help Mr. Iwai!
The mystery in this one was a good one! Once again we're seeing an "older" character make a comeback, and this time it was Lily! I loved seeing her once again, and even outside of her normal element no less! Well, in a way, but we still saw her feistiness! LOL!
My poor heart though! It was really going out to Kanako and how she was struggling! I feel she is so worried she won't be able to be by Mr. Iwai's side and I just want to hug her and remind her that there is no way she wouldn't be by his side! They are our dynamic duo and feel they'll always be together!
That said though, I'm glad that she pushed to travel with Mr. Iwai due to the events of the last volume. *nervous laughter* I don't want anything bad to happen again, and while I know something COULD happen even with Kanako there, I feel like the chances are significantly lower at least! LOL!
I'm excited to pick up the next volume and see how this mystery continues to unfold! The new character we met may seem "naive," but she shows she is far from it!
