Rowena Akinyemi is British, and after many years in Africa, she now lives and works in Cambridge. She was worked in English Language Teaching for twenty years, in Africa and England, and has been writing ELT fiction for ten years. Love or money? Was her first story for the Oxford Bookworms Library, and she has now written several other stories for the series, including Remeber Miranda and The Witches of Pendle (both at Stage 1). She has also written books for children. One of her favourite pastimes is reading detective stories.
The first book to start my year of reading 2020, and it was not too bad, but it was not so good either.
The year 2222, the Earth’s natural protective layer, the ozone, is destroyed. So people build the Artificial Ozone Layer, or AOL, to protect the Earth from the scorching light of the Sun.
The year 2522, the AOL has serious problems, and statistical numbers point out that it is about to tear apart.
So what would you do if you are the ones finding that out, when Earth Commander is a man who does not listen to scientific numbers? The main characters in this book, who are concerned for Earth’s future, decide to report this finding, but to no avail. Earth Commander already sent a man who reported the AOL’s problem some years ago to human’s colony under the Moon. Earth Commander is a big fat man with no care for the Earth whatsoever, instead he is only interested in sending people to Mars.
The book starts off slowly, but picks up its momentum from the middle of the story, with lots of exciting turns. A person is killed because he decides to confront Earth Commander and demands his taking actions to save the Earth. Two people are sent to prison for knowing about AOL’s problems and going against the Earth Commander’s wish.
The idea of the book is so great and relevant, because what we are currently seeing happening here on Earth, with global warming and climate change, is somehow reflected in this story. And Australia’s forests are burned in this book, just like what is happening in real life’s Australia. Wow.
Despite those many strong points, the story doesn’t really take off or go anywhere. The ending, to me, feels like a weak attempt to end a story that has so much potential to become an epic sci-fi book or even series. Earth Commander – the bad guy – is not defeated, and now the main characters have to run away as fugitives to live on human’s colony under the Moon (hence the title of the book). Will there be part 2, or another book telling the next chapter of the story? I believe there is none. And that’s a shame… I wish the book’s idea were adapted into at least a full-length novel, not just a short Oxford Bookworms book like this, with just 40 pages of story telling…
I did not forget to put the stars… it doesn’t deserve stars. This book was so weird and I couldn’t understand a thing. I couldn’t stand how DUMB Gog was. The ending, it wasn’t a really happy ending, but this book shows us what Earth might become someday. And that’s really scary. I still hated the book.
1.Oxford level 1 2.4/25=60min 4/28=40min 3.Earth lost ozone environment destroyed try stop 4.He took some money from his pocket and gave it to the taxi driver. The taxi driver looked money, "OK, OK," he said. Taxi deiver was angry, but when he saw the money, he turned to smile. It was interesting. He was straight to his desire. 5.This is a future story. In 2222, earth lost the ozone layer, so people made Artificial Ozone Layer(AOL). Then they could save nature on earth. However, in 2522, AOL was out of order, so the staff of AOL had to fix it. They tried to do it, but it couldn't be attained. At last, they moved to moon. This story was bad end, so I was not comfortable. However, I could learn the importance of ozone layer. If earth lose it, warter cannot be and forests are burned. I'd like to try to decrease bad gases which destroy ozone layer.
1 Oxford level 1 2 5/19=65 minutes 3 sun, earth, die, moon, colony, people,Earth Commander 4 a) The earth is dying because the sun is burning down on the earth with white fire. A young man watches numbers on computer screen. The mumbers tell an important thing. b) This story is sad for me because the planet earth, animals, trees and people die. 5 I can't understand the meaning of mumbers. If this story was real, I would feel fear. Recently, grobal warming is happing, so we have a fear this story will come true.

I read about Under The Moon. I don't recommend it because an ending isn't written in this book. Isn't written too many and characters is too many so I couldn't remember it. But It was written in detail about the environment of the earth. This book made me think over the future of the earth.
I finished read this book yesterday, and it was very interesting and sometimes funny. The end doesn't was what I expected, but the story was kind a nice, and I will love to read the another's versions.
our Planet Earth may burning after thousand of years later, it is environmental problems,we need to reduce our usage of the nature. what I concert is not all the people able to go to the colony under the moon..
