Kyle Armentrout is every gay man’s fantasy in a toolbelt, but he can’t even change a light bulb without injuring himself. Twice divorced and not long from the closet, he’s found his way into a fulfilling relationship at last, but he can’t quite escape the sense that he’s left his manhood behind in the process.
When Kyle’s latest DIY project slides into predictable disaster, his lover, Eric Mulholland, wants him to retire his Allen wrench and accept that he isn’t less of a man for loving Eric.
Then the fault lines of their relationship meet the fault lines of the 2011 Northeast earthquake, and the two lovers learn not just to stay on their feet when the ground shakes, but to actually treasure the tremble.
Kari Gregg lives in the mountains of Wild and Wonderful West Virginia with her Wonderful husband and three very Wild children. When Kari’s not writing, she enjoys reading, coffee, zombie flicks, coffee, naked mud-wrestling (not really), and . . . coffee!

Eric Mulholand loves his boyfriend, Kyle, even though Kyle seems determined to destroy their apartment through his attempts at DIY projects. Kyle Armentrout is a contradiction in so many ways. Tall, nordic, handsome, twice divorced, and father of five. After 20 years of repressing his true nature, Kyle is now madly in love with a man and a complete bottom in the bed. These are facts that are still taking some adjustment. So to compensate for a perceived "less manly" self image, Kyle has decided that being a Mr. Fixit is the answer. Only problem is that he can't fix things, anything to be exact. And the plumbing, the electricity, even Eric's tires have suffered. So as hot as Kyle looks in a tool belt, Eric has had enough.
One argument leads to some very hot makeup sex. And then the earth shakes. It doesn't take either man very long to realize that there are emotional earthquakes as well as the physical ones, and they have just been through both. And survived both with their love and apartment well intact. Such a great metaphor as nothing can shake a physical foundation like an earthquake and nothing can shake up a person from their emotional moorings or foundation like love can. Great characters who cracked me up while making me understand how fragile relationships and self images can be. I wish the story had been longer but no matter, I enjoyed my stay with both of them.
Cover: A little dark but in keeping with an earthquake plot, but other than that, just perfect. Loved the fonts as they are so easy to read.
And check in with The Trevor Project. You won't be sorry.
This was a quick little read that I picked up to get a taste of Kari Gregg's writing. It only cost a buck and all royalties are donated to the Trevor Project which provides services to LGBTQ youth.
Unable to resist a good cause and hopefully a hot read I finished it 20 minutes and was not disappointed. Kyle is everything his discription promises (every gay man's fantasy in a tool belt) and what I liked was how the feel and look of him was fed to the reader as the story was told instead of one lump discription at the beginning. It was a great build getting Eric's view of him throughout their hot love making and watching Kyle's layers get peeled away.
I always like a story that gets told through sex and this little read does a good job of it. Definitely pick it up!

Kyle Armentrout is twice divorced and recently out of the closet. Strapped into his toolbelt, he is every gay man's dream, but he is sadly an accident waiting to happen when he tries his DIY projects. Yet his partner Eric Mulholland knows that there is part of Kyle that needs these projects to help him regain some of his confidence as he adjusts to life as an out gay man after years of stuffing his feelings away.
In Foreshock we get to see a quick snapshot of Kyle and Eric together. Despite still adjusting to his new life, Kyle is totally into Eric and we are treated to a hot scene between them in the kitchen. As we watch the guys interact, the love and tenderness, as well as a bit of playfulness are really apparent. And when the guys are startled but a sudden earthquake, we get to see a bit more between them, as they both refuse to let go of one another. And even though, like the earthquake, their relationship has shaken both of them up, it is clear that where they both want to be is with each other.
This is a short little story, but Gregg packs quite a lot in. I really felt like I got to know the guys and understand a lot about their relationship even in the short format. The love and affection between them is really clear and they are quite sweet together. Eric is clearly exasperated at Kyle's never ending series of failed fix-it attempts, yet even with that it is clear he understands why Kyle needs to continue with them. And even with his anxiety about his new life, it is also apparent that Kyle loves and needs Eric and can't be without him. I wish the post earthquake section was just a tiny bit longer; I would have loved to see that conclusion made a bit more clearly. But overall I definitely enjoyed Foreshock and loved meeting Kyle and Eric.
Sweet, short, sexy story about Kyle, a 38 yr old guy who didn't come out of the closet until he met Eric, his now live-in lover. Kyle seems to be trying to make up for his supposed loss of masculinity by trying to be a handyman around the house. Trying is the word, since he inevitably fails.
The story primarily revolves around Eric's efforts, through sex, to convince Kyle that he loves and needs him, just not as Mr Fixit. Just after they finish, an earthquake hits their area in Virginia, giving the two more reason to be thankful that they are together and okay.
Special thanks to Ms. Gregg for donating proceeds to The Trevor Project!
It was such a lovely story. I liked both main characters a lot. They seemed so good together. I liked the little bit of humor involved on it. It was also easy to see they care for each other. Poor Kyle he was so optimistic about his abilities, it was awful so see how many things had gone wrong for him and also it was a bit frustrating. It was a very fun to read short story, free of angst and really sweet. I always love to see an established couple dealing with the day to day issues, this was a lovely example of it. I only wish Erick would be a little more sympathetic to Kyle’s needs but overall it was very enjoyable.
A short interlude from Eric and Kyle - in amidst Kyle's bodged DIY attempts Eric tries to reassure him he is still manly despite only recently having come out of the closet. After some vigorous reassuring, the earth literally moves! Very short - more while the kettle is boiling for the coffee rather than a coffee break read! - so no info or build up to the characters, but fun anyway.
I've tried more than one book from this author and they've all been DNF. Maybe the right publisher and editor was the piece missing.
A really short story that starts more like a sequel to a prequel. I liked the characters a lot and I thought the dynamics between the two were thought provoking. One can only hope this author expands this story. I would love to see these guys and their beginning. The five kids too would be an epic read.
I quite liked this very short story. The characters are charming and even though we don't know them for that long, they felt very true to life with very real problems. Plus, since the proceed of this story goes to a great cause, I would encourage everyone to buy it, it'll make you fell good on more than one level!
Wow, the more i read of this author, the more i love her! Another great story and even better, even though its a short story, its well done and smokin at the same time! So many authors who write a quickie write all sex between two characters we dont even know enough to care about. Thats not sexy! To those authors i want to point this story and say 'see, it can be done!'. Sexy short story!
Short, sexy read. The love between the characters was clear and I loved their playfulness. Also, how Eric tried to soothe Kyle's insecurities. I would very much like to read how these two have met and fell in love.
Extreme short that for its length packed a lot of punch. Hot sex. Growth in a relationship. Plus, money donated to a good cause. Can't compare apples and oranges. Compared to others of or around this length it was definitely a cut above the rest.
