When a gorgeous professor walks into his veterinary clinic with a stray kitten, Tristan has only one agenda—ask him out. Surely, he'll say yes. The man is staring at him like he's a dream come true. And he is—literally. Vide has been seeing one person in his dreams all his life. What should he do when he suddenly meets the man he's always dreamed of? How can he reveal his dreams to Tristan, or explain the terrible fate they seem to promise? After a thousand lifetimes and a thousand deaths, will they be able to finally break free from their curse?
I've started to write this review about five times now, but I keep not quite hitting the mark, because I kinda don't know, what to say.
I loved the whole concept. The rebirth trope is one of those things I love, if executed correctly, that is. There is just something about two star crossed lovers, two souls that are destened to meet over and over again. Which is, exactly what happens in this book. I follows our two MC's through multible lives. They aren't always the same, the aren't always good people, but they are always really interesting to follow, their love a constent thing, their chemistry really beautiful. There is 1 scene that I didn't like, and I kinda would have LOVED to have a TW for that certain scene. Because the question of consent is one, that is neither 100% clear to their past lives, nor their current lives. One of them claims he gave consent to the thing, but the other isn't really that sure, he wasn't a rapist in his past life and feels really unconfortable about it. Just like me. They do talk about it though, which is really nice. Communication is a really important aspect of their relationship. Their whole meet-cute had me hooked from the get go. Some past lifes felt like they were falling in love too fast HOWEVER I felt like I could forgive that because of plot reasons. To summ up the stuff I liked: The concept, the relationship, all the characters, the writing stile and the story itself. So, however, there was also stuff I didn't like. If I had to be picky, I would have enjoyed a little less sex scenes. To the authors defense, a lot of them were not to graphic and pretty vanilla. And if that were my only complaint, I would have given the book 5 stars. The thing that ruined it for me, was the ending. I kinda felt ... betrayed? It was the most anti-climactic thing, I read all year. I finished the book, looked at it and asked myself: Really? THAT is how you solve your problems? THIS is how you get our happy ending? Lol, just lol. Wow. OK. The epiloge is really cute and I loved it, but ... I wish we had gotten another ending. I don't know if an unhappy one, would have satisfied me more. I just know, that this one was not great. I was so invested,I couldn't stop reading just for the ending to leave me feeling betrayed. I can't say more without spoiling it. So, yeah. I still had a good time, I really did, which is why I decided to give this 4 stars after all. I just feel like, it could have been a 5 star book. Easily.
