L'oeuvre :
Le roman de Madame de Lafayette est un des plus tragiques de la littérature française. Modèle fondateur du « roman d’analyse », La Princesse de Clèves reste par-dessus tout une œuvre fascinante, d’une étonnante modernité.

Let’s be honest, I had to read this book for French class at high school but it turns out to be one of my favorite book of this year so far !
Set in the French court of Henri II, we follow the story of Mlle de Chartres, a 16 years old young lady who fell in love at the wrong time. Indeed, she has been married to the Prince of Clèves, mesmirized by her beauty and spirit. Sadly although he became her husband she didn’t share his feelings. But when she met the Duc de Nemours she couldn’t help being attracted. The Duc fell so deep in love too. What can this princess do when her heart and her reason are fundamentally opposed ?
This novel was amazing. First can we talk about the writing style of Mme de Lafayette ? Pleasant isn’t enough powerful to describe it. Furthermore It is with deepest pleasure that the background chose fit with the Reign Tv series one. Even though, the number of character is huge, I didn’t loose the guideline thanks to my knowledge about Mary Stuart history. Finally, The princess of Clèves is an example of virtue: she has never failed to her duty as a wife in a very devout society.
In that respect, I highly recommend this book to people who love medieval historical settings and bunch of informations, wonderful writing style and tragic love story !

(French is my first language so if you see any faults in my review please let me know !)

Livre très bien écrit ,assez difficile à comprendre étant donné l'époque d'écriture. L'histoire est intéressante et j'ai apprécié ma lecture , malgré que les classiques ne soient pas vraiment mon style habituel
