Great action book about female ex-MP in hiding, Hatch.
What I liked: -Lots of action -Great character development -A few twists and turns
What I didn't like: -The whole book should never have happened, Hatch should have stepped in sooner. -Late in the book-she turns the girls over. I think this was a bad choice.
A pleasant surprise! After reading a few of these books, I can get the jest of how the storylines would go. Initially, I thought i did until a twist was added followed by another one. I liked that immensely. Everywhere Hatch goes she seems to find trouble yet this one is a little more intense.
I am keeping this vague because I don’t want to give away any spoilers. One of the things I do like about the writing style of this author has to be the way he says what I, as a reader, would have said. Read the book and you may get what I mean by that.
PS love the quote …. Can’t go back to yesterday…. When you see it reflect on it and ponder your own past.
Every story in the Rachel Hatch series have caught my attention straight from the beginning and is completely believable the way she helps people in dire need. Without fear for herself she gets the situation under control and saves so many lives.. I can't wait for my next read next year. I wish there was more while I wait for the next book.
Yet another superb story. These books are really hard to put down once picked up, the stories and characters are so well thought out and written that they almost feel real.
Hatch his one of my newest books I can't wait to read. Love there is still a connection to her former life but she is still tough as always. This book is a great read. You won't be disappointed even though Hatch was.
Hatch is a powerhouse!! This adventure was right up her alley. Gibbons was GOOD! I think it's pretty tough to fool Hatch. Well done there. I am anxious to read the next one. Taking down this sex slave ring proves to be a big task. Great book.
Rachel Hatch has a hard time playing dead. The people who murdered her father think they have killed her. Only a short list of people know she's alive. While In a food market and gas station in Arizona she witnesses what she believes a female being forced against her will into a car. Her instincts kick in. What follows is her relentless pursuit of the human traffickers. Another excellent read in this series!!! Enjoyed immensely!!
A very good read as Hatch stumbles on a child snatching group. There are many twist and turns in this story that keep you from putting g the book down.
Oh my two fantastic Author's working together you just can't go wrong with that. I absolutely loved this book and recommend it for everyone. I do not know nor does it matter who wrote what. This book will leave you wanting more it is just that good. Highly recommend this book and can not wait for the next "Thatch book"
LT RYAN & BRIAN SHAE have another success story as in 5 star bestseller! Every book in the series just keeps getting better. Loving character of Rachel Hatch. She is so complex and multi layered that it’s impossible to tire of her.
My only complaint ( and its not really) is waiting on WHITEWATER. This series about child sex traffickers was an intense journey. Can’t wait to see what Rachel gets into next.
Thanks again LT & Brian, another joyful read, an incredible and get credible lady . Motherly and yet she come complete with a militarily aggressive controlled response. Not far fetched, very relatable, and exciting reads. Bring on the next, Thank you & Merry Christmas to you both.
Another great chapter in Rachel Hatch's life. Hatch doesn't look for trouble, but she doesn't run from it either when she believes a wrong needs to be righted.
I love reading Hatch and this latest book was exactly what I expected. Hatch does not hesitate to get into the fray; she is confident, unafraid and has morals to get involved to save whoever needs saving. After reading the preview for the next installment, I cannot wait for the release date.
Another great read in the Rachel Hatch series. Continues to whistle to her own tune and hands out justice in her own inimitable way. Terrific protagonist.
I jumped into this book without reading the previous ones. I was worried that I would be lost not knowing Hatch's history. I was pleased to read an exciting story wit unexpected twists! I can't wait to backtrack to read the others!
I really enjoy the Rachel Hatch series. I can’t wait fir another one. Hatch is a very resourceful woman who doesn’t give up no matter what the odds. Love her tenacity.
I'm not thrilled with the direction Hatch is going in her new non/new existing persona! Although action packed and a thrilling storyline, this one dragged in spots and the anticlimactic unanswered questions left a lot to be desired. I felt a little wanti g and disa6by the ending.
The Rachel Hatch books just keep getting better and better! I love these books. This is the 5th in a series of 8 and each one has been 5-star. The writers are amazing. I caught no grammatical errors nor typos and that in itself is astonishing because they often show up as a matter of course. And the writing style is smooth, crisp, clean, with a gratifying attention to detail.
The characters are wonderfully written. I can see them as I read. Rachel Hatch, the recurring heroine, is still her wonderful self with a firm moral compass that stays pointing north regardless of hardships and danger. I miss her loved ones as much as Rachel does. Daphne and Jake, her niece and nephew. Jasmine, her mother. Dalton Savage, the Hawk’s Landing sheriff. All of them are still crystal clear in my mind’s eye from previous books and their brief appearances in this book makes the memories of them all the more nostalgic. THIS is the power of good writing.
This fifth book picks up where the fourth book, Smoke Signals, left off. Although every book follows a storyline that links them all together, each can be read as a standalone novel and I vastly appreciate this: I will devour all 8 of the Rachel Hatch books with great pleasure because the writing is just so good. Rachel finds herself immersed in trouble everywhere she turns. This time she is face to face with a kidnapping that gets her involved in sex trafficking. I love her strength – both physically and emotionally – and her own code to help good people who need it and to punish those who do evil. Rachel Hatch is emerging as a character; she progresses along her path, evolving into a stronger, more powerful and steadfast woman growing more and more believable and convincing in each book.
The plot sizzles, the characters jump off the page, the story is incredibly easy to read, and to continue reading into the wee hours. I simply cannot put these books down: they are like eating warm chocolate chip cookies with ice cold milk…so yummy! I do not know how two writers work together, but it sure works with the Rachel Hatch series. I cannot – absolutely cannot – wait to read the next book in the series, Whitewater. The title of this book, Firewalk, is an excellent one: it fits the book beautifully. Well done! Well worth 5-stars…!
In "Rachel Hatch Book 5," authors J.T. Ryan and Brian Shea deliver another adrenaline-fueled thriller that showcases their mastery of suspense and action. Following her staged death to protect her loved ones from Talon Executive Services, former military police officer Rachel Hatch embarks on a journey to Coronado, California, seeking answers from her ex-boyfriend, a Navy SEAL.
The story takes an unexpected turn when Hatch witnesses what appears to be a kidnapping at a Phoenix gas station. Despite her initial reluctance to get involved, a dropped item from the victim confirms her suspicions. When her attempt to help leads to a complicated web of family dynamics and a seemingly uncooperative father, Hatch partners with a private investigator to uncover a dark human trafficking operation.
The authors excel at maintaining tension throughout the narrative, particularly during a climactic fire sequence that tests Hatch's determination and abilities. The revelation of a major betrayal adds layers of complexity to what initially seemed a straightforward rescue mission.
Ryan and Shea's signature fast-paced writing style keeps readers on the edge of their seats, delivering the high-stakes action fans have come to expect from the series. While the ending may leave readers uncertain whether this is a cliffhanger, the journey proves both thrilling and satisfying.
This fifth installment in the Rachel Hatch series demonstrates why the authors remain at the forefront of the action-thriller genre, skillfully blending personal drama with intense action sequences while tackling serious contemporary issues.
After a hefty break from the world of Rachel Hatch (especially after being mildly disappointed with the ending of the previous entry), I've decided to jump back in to this next entry. Or, at the very least, wade back in. I'm not gonna go so far as to say it's great to be back, but it's still alright. I wasn't really blown away or wowed by anything. At this point, though, I don't really expect to be.
This was still overall a good read. It wasn't super exciting, but nor was it unbearably boring either. As is typical, on her journey to her next destination, Rachel finds herself intersecting with a girl who seems to summon her for help. The girl seems disoriented and is being carted around by a man. Rachel does her Rachel thing and investigates, only to discover she's stumbled into the world of sex trafficking. And so of course, she takes it upon herself to right such a horrid wrong. And thus the story carries on. Rachel goes to and fro, does her thing. Etc, etc.
Annoyances that were prevalent in past entries (such as whichever author expresses a particular writing style) fortunately weren't as dominant here, so that was a definite plus. The plot is easy to follow and the pace is pretty good. As I said, it wasn't something that blew me away, so I can't really say much else on the story. Though I will say this much: bravo on the twist as I did NOT see it coming. I DID see the ending coming from a mile away though, found it predictable, so of course I had to tackle with a cliffhanger that will of course lead into the next book of the series.
I do intend to continue on to satisfy curiosity, though perhaps not right away. Soon.

Rachel Hatch, who I have named Super Woman, is back in book five, Firewalk. I have now read the first five of the Rachel Hatch series. In this book Rachel is on her way to California under a totally new identity, when she passes a kidnapped eighteen year old, as her captors guide her out of the store and back into an SUV. The captive tosses a pin onto the pavement, and after they depart, Rachel retrieves it. This small action leads Rachel down the path to an evil human trafficking ring, and the rest is left for the reader to discover. On the positive side of the ledger are Willow and Kaitlin Moss, and the author does a reasonable job of developing the mother and daughter team. The best character creation, however, is the Ghost, Colton Gibbons. Gibbons is introduced as a private investigator attempting to find and rescue Kaitlin Moss, when Rachel first encounters him. Hatch is usually very cautious and perceptive which is a product of her military police experience, but Gibbons presents a new challenge. Give Firewalk a read, and you will likely be caught up in the action and suspense. Rachel Hatch is one tough woman.
