Rose never expected to return to Wildlife Ridge after she graduated high school, but here she is, sixteen years later. She wants to spend some time focusing on her new life as an entrepreneur, away from the big city rat race, and her quiet hometown in the mountains seems like the perfect place to do that. She’s excited to spend some time with her parents and has barely given a passing thought to seeing Ethan again. Really. Hardly at all.
Ethan hasn’t seen Rose on her infrequent visits home. He’s never forgiven himself for cancelling out on taking her to prom at the last minute. His life hasn’t panned out the way he expected, but he loves his town, and he’s hopeful she’ll love it enough to stick around for awhile, give Wildlife Ridge a second chance. And maybe give him a chance to make it up to her after all this time.
KB Alan lives the single life in Southern California. She acknowledges that she should probably turn off the computer and leave the house once in a while in order to find her own happily ever after, but for now she’s content to delude herself with the theory that Mr. Right is bound to come knocking on her door through no real effort on her own. Please refrain from pointing out the many flaws in this system. Other comments, however, are happily received through her email or website.
Rose makes lists, she plans, she succeeds; but life is all about her, and she’s just a little lonely.
Ethan’s life has always been about taking care of his family. First he was raising his sister, then taking care of his mother; now he’s doing his best to cope while his sister dies. Life was something that happened on the side, in the few moments he had that were his own.
That is…. Until Rose came back to town…
What was only supposed to be temporary quickly turned into forever in this somewhat slow, but nevertheless sweet, story about second chances.
After 16 years, Rose returned to Wildlife Ridge, her hometown. She started her new life as an entrepreneur and needed a quiet and peaceful place to do that. Never even thinking she would run into Ethan again.
Ethan always felt guilty for not taking Rose to the prom. He had to back out because of circumstances. He never explained why……
Ethan and Rose ran into each other and the sparks started to fly.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a sweet and cosy story. I feel the author did well with dealing with the “circumstances”, without making me cry.
Changes in life can happen when you least expect them to. Going home after being away for a long time can bring big changes of many different things, like family or what you thought about certain events that happened before you had left. Find out how Rose deals with what life brings her way.
A first KB Alan story for me and I found the story a bit tedious for the first few chapters. My favourite character was Ethan, he's a good man. I have no idea what 401k is and why it was important, so it didn't add anything to the story for me, nor did it make me think there was anything special about the friends from LA. Rose was ok. Just an ok story for me.
I was hooked on this contemporary small town romance. Sometimes a person has to leave hometown life to relies what their looking for. The characters were strong supportive and made you feel right at home. Highly recommend this book.
Ok, first of all I got this for free, so I'm not going to b*tch about it (just for the hell off it)... And... There are a few things I like to know before I add a book to my looong list of "to read": Is it a standalone? Yes Does it have a cliffhanger, in case it isn't? ----- Does it have a HEA? Yes
Now here's what I think of this book (and happened to me): Is it the best book I've ever read? Not really Is it the worst? Not by far Did it make me smile? Oh yeah Laugh? Yep Cry? Yes.. Did it annoy me? No, not really, I don't think so If I knew what it was like first-hand, would I read it? Without a doubt! This is that kind of book that gives up a warm and fuzzy feelings inside 🥰🤗
I liked this book, even though there wasn't much of a plot. The author mainly wrote about feelings and love. The love shown by the big brother for his sickly younger sister was very touching. There wasn't a bad person in the whole book; everyone was warm and friendly, honest and loving. Oh wait, there were a few cheating husbands. I guess it wasn't Utopia, afterall.
