Soulbound #5

On the Wings of War

Rate this book
Remembering the dead will always give them life. The coveted Morrígan’s staff is up for sale on the black market to the highest bidder, and SOA Special Agent Patrick Collins will do whatever it takes to ensure the Dominion Sect doesn’t get their hands on it. Returning the weapon to its rightful owner is another step on the long road toward clearing Patrick’s soul debt, but he won’t walk it alone. Jonothon de Vere won’t let him. Obeying the gods means Patrick must travel to London. For Jono, it means facing a past he thought he’d left behind forever. His return to England isn’t welcome, and neither is their pack, but Jono and Patrick will face the antagonism together. Politics aside, their priority must be the mission, but the bone-chilling secret they uncover in the London god pack will have far-reaching repercussions no one can ignore. A race against time takes Patrick and Jono from the streets of London to the bright lights of Paris, where hospitality is thin on the ground, the air is filled with whispered prayers for the missing, and the Morrígan’s staff will end up in the one place it should never have gone—a graveyard. For beneath Paris lie the long-forgotten dead, and when they rise to walk again, the living can only hope to die.

My favorite installment in the series yet. It’s full of a variety of types of action with a little more emphasis on the human political sphere and less on the work of the gods or fae than in prior books. The focus is on regaining the McGuffin–I mean, Morrigan’s Staff–and in this installment they end up traveling to England and France.

What I enjoy about this series is the wide mix of folk and mythology, vaguely integrated into the normal world. Coupled with the action, it often means that what might be expected with a typical werewolf/vampire/Fae urban fantasy will turn into something else as soon as it mixes in Odin, Fenir and Hermes, along with ghouls and gargoyles. (I think Turner’s world-building has come down to belief=existence, except the Fae? I’m sketchy on the details, but to be fair, I think she is as well.) At any rate, take the mythos mash-up and mix it with a gay male romance and it resets almost all my normal genre irritations into something fun and distracting.

At the slight risk of spoilers, one of the better things about this installment is that it does not involve Patrick going off by himself as a sacrifice/pawn in some obviously doomed ‘divide-and-conquer’ strategy. I mean, who does that? Who fights a known, sizeable group of others and thinks, ‘oh, the best possible choice here is for me to go by myself.’ (By book five in the series, you should have figured out the answer to that question–someone who has self-esteem issues). Turner has found a new set of strategies for Patrick to use. Or maybe he’s finally becoming convinced he has some value? Oh, wait; cancel that. Patrick totally does that in a completely predictable scene. But aside from that one time, I mean; otherwise, it’s all different.

Perhaps along that note, the emotional growth of our leads continues, but this time it is as Jono faces his past. It’s one of the ways in which this feels set apart from other stories, not using misunderstanding to create artificial problems between the two as major plot points. Or, conversely, the ‘I’m-hiding-it-to-protect-you’ plot point, which also drives me bonkers (you can see why I don’t do well with most paranormal).

One disappointing note is that the comic relief from Wade, the adolescent dragon, isn’t working as well. Comments around his bottomless stomach are literally almost the same through the entire book with only the type of food changing. So although he serves his moments of amuse bouche (particularly with cultural foods and cats), he is not used as well as he could be.

At any rate, it was fun and far more distracting than I actually wanted–I had hoped to just read off and on between other projects, and ended up sitting down and finishing it in three big bites.

I'll be honest, the four stars is relative to the genre and candy-bar status: this is not fine dining. This is straight-up sugar rush.

I get it, when readers say they can't wait for the next Soulbound book!!!
This series only gets better with each book.

And again, this book was everything I wanted it to be. Love Patrick and Jono together. Love how strong their pack is. How close knit they all have become. And Wade is still my favorite sub character.

Amazing storytelling. Fantastic writing. Wonderful description of action scenes.

If you love fantasy and you are a fan of MM you must pick up this series. It's really well done and addictive!!!!

Can't wait for the next book.

⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱*Starting To Get Truly Boring*⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱

Book one occurred in June, book two in August, book three in December and book four starts in February. Book five starts in June - so a year has gone by since book one. That said, even though the timeline is long between the books, I don't feel like there's any development. Like at all. And frankly, it's getting boring. It's like the same thing over and over again. Also I don't like Carmen, but I like Lucien. I want Lucien to care for Patrick. Not in love with him, but love him like a brother. I would like a book with Lucien and Spencer but without Carmen. I don't know why, but I can't stand her. Overall, I found the book so boring that I skimmed a lot. I just didn't care, I wasn't invested. I need development in books. Specially when it's a series. And again, Wade bores me with all his eating.

Characters & Information/Spoilers:
The list is LONG so I've put it in a spoilers tag.

Quick basic facts:
Genre: - (Adult) Urban Romance (M/M).
Series: - Series, Book Five.
Love triangle? -
Cheating? -
HEA? -
Favorite character? - Jonothon ‘Jono’ de Vere.
Would I read more by this author/or of series? - Yes.
Would I recommend this book/series? - Sure.
Will I read this again in the future? - Unsure.
Rating - 2.5 stars.

Beyond good, so much so I'm struggling for words to review just how brilliantly Hailey has crafted this instalment in the fabulous Soulbound series.

This time we're in both London and Paris as the search for the Morrigan's missing staff sees Patrick forging an uneasy alliance with vampire Lucien.

I have to say, with each book Hailey impresses me more and more with the way she reaches into the lesser known mythologies and folklore of the world.

Here I'm taken back to my childhood reading Andrew Lang's Red Fairy Book, where I first encountered the Slavic character of Baba Yaga in The Death of Koschei the Deathless.

I love this about this series, the titles always give a small clue as to what the mythologies might touch on.

You never know which way Hailey will take her versions, will they aid or hinder Patrick and my heart was in my mouth for the vast majority of this book.

I read it in one afternoon because I knew once picked it up, I wasn't going to want to stop for anything.

The pacing was perfection, so many small tension-inducing moments all building up to a cataclysmic final few chapters where I honestly wasn't sure what the outcome would be.

I can honestly say that the ending wasn't one I saw coming and OMG, the squeal when I realised what was happening could probably be heard the next valley over!

This book isn't even out until next month but I am going to be dying until Soulbound VI is announced and I can find out where Hailey is taking Patrick, Jono and the pack, and their friends and allies next!

And speaking of, our mage and his werewolf are just fabulous, their bond becoming even stronger irrespective of the magic connection the Gods gave them.

They're a pair who have found their footing and know instinctively that the other will have their back, no matter what.

Together with Sage, Wade and the rest of the gang, the friendships forged in this series are among my favourite in any genre.

As ever, no plot spoilers from me, just confirmation of another adrenaline filled exploration of just how well crafted urban fantasy/paranormal can be in the hands of a talented author.

Thrilling!!!

I love that Turner took a theme for each book, this one is the darker so far, it was a very successful story, the plot was really engaging, I was holding my breath several times!!! high praises to Hailey Turner!!!

Every character had a unique flavour to the story, so rich, so detailed, the main characters are really great together, I loved their dynamics, the actions scenes are absolutely superb, I still miss the romantic scenes, it got shorter, very brief.

I have this book on Audible too, congratulations to Gary Furlong, he gave a show, the performance was marvellous, fully committed, the acting was just right, he's one of the few narrators that can create a lot of different voices for the characters, I was very pleased!!!

Ah, what a treat this was! I love Patrick and Jono! Ms Turner never ceases to surprise and entertain with her stories full of action, suspense, humor and love. Up until now every book introduced us to new Gods - their worshipers, beliefs and traditions and this was no different except this time the author continued the story line from the previous book as well - the search for Morrigan's stuff. The best part was that Patrick and Jono had to chase it across the world with all the shenanigans that it entailed. I loved London and France pack politics! There was so much tension, rules to follow and Jono's past to explore. It was smorgasbord of everything paranormal.

Jono and Patrick's relationship is stronger than ever. The trust and love between them grow every day with every challenge that is thrown at them. They are tested by everything possible - family, past and death. The Gods are ever fickle and playful and barely give them respite, but even then they find moments to reaffirm their commitment and strengthen their bond. The bonds within their pack are also important and give them support. Wade is the comedian at times but when push comes to shove he can stand his ground. Sage is the dire that any pack would be proud of and she proves it everyday with her unwavering loyalty. I love the dynamics between them.

Hailey Turner never skips on action, so it's plentiful and electrifying. Every city has secrets to hide and monsters to kill, so Patrick is never bored or still. The twist that came at the very end left me gobsmacked and needing the next book ASAP. I so didn't see THAT coming. I am looking forward to how it will change certain characters and the relationship between them. It was, without a doubt, highly entertaining fast paced UF with my favorite characters doing their best to save the world, per the norm, and stay in one piece, relatively speaking, to live another day as pack and family. Loved it. Ms Turner nailed it as usual! Copy received for my honest and unbiased review

Reread/Relisten #6 June 2024

Yes this is one is becoming one of my favorites in the series!

Reread/Relisten #5 February 2024

These books just feel like coming home! I love Patrick and Jono, and obviously Wade 🥰

I am going back on my previous reviews I do love this one, I think that there are slow parts but to me it was better this read, idk why, but I’m not questioning it haha

Reread/Relisten #4 September 2023

The ending of this book! Damn haha I’m so glad this series is complete! Haha

Reread/Relisten #3 January 2023

Compared to all the other books, this one does drag a little bit, but the ending makes up for it. I am excited to get in to the final two books!

Reread/relisten #2 September 2021
I didn’t love this one as much as the others but one more day and book to go before the last book of the series!

Reread and relisten #1 June 2021:

same as before, I think this one isn’t my favorite out of the series so far, I did have my mind drift a few times when reading but it ended with a kinda cliffhanger that you have to continue!

4-4.5 stars March 2021

Compared to the last book this one was slower in the build up. BUUUUTTT still very much engaging with the wars and battles.

There are so many Gods and Goddesses and creatures that it can be a tad confusing, but something that isn't confusing is my love for the cute little fledgling Dragon WADE he is such a cutie.

I also still enjoy Jono and Patrick's relationship, i just hope at the end of this we hear Patrick say I love you.... haha he's pulling a very Han Solo thing by answering "I love you" with an "I Know" lol

I am going to continue this series next week because that is when the audiobook comes out for book 6.

I'm not feeling very talkative today so this will be short and sweet.

There's a reason that Hailey Turner and this series in particular is on my auto-buy and drop-everything-and-read list. There's not a single thing I don't love about this series. I love, love, love Jono and Patrick together and more, I love what they are becoming as their relationship deepens. ❤️ I love every single character *blows kisses to Wade, LOL*, even the damn Night Court, who, though they may hate Patrick, are always there when they say they will be. Ok, so maybe not some of the gods or the Dominion Sect, but they play their part too. The world building is spectacular, the plot and writing are always outstanding and the action and battles are edge-of-your-seat asskicking. All just my *un*humble opinion, of course. 😁

And the shocker at the end? Bloody hell, y'all! 😳 From the moment Einar showed up at Jono & Patrick's door til the last gasp-causing scene, every hair on my body was standing straight up. Instant gooseflesh all over, even thinking about it now. While not exactly a cliffhanger, I am dying for the next book!

If you love urban fantasy, or even mythology, you are absolutely cheating yourself if you're not reading this series.

I don't know what I'm going to do with my life when this series is over. 😭

Jono, Patrick, Sage, and Wade went on a Eurotrip, and as always, chaos followed, pack politics, random gods, and sketchy demons included.

It was great; it had adventure, badassery, tender moments, and all the bread Wade could eat 🥐 .

The ending was amazing, and the quest for The Morrigan's staff continues. On to the next one!

5+++ awesome stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This has quickly become one of my very favourite series.
I'm so invested in Jono and Patrick, and all of the supporting characters.
I'm also completely in love with Jono!!!

Their adventures and cases always keep me riveted. There is never even a tiny bit of filler story in these books, no boring passages, it's always amazing.

Straight onto book 6.

I really like this series. And while this book is not as good as the first three books in this series, it is still excellent.

The plot of this book is a direct continuation of the events of the previous one. So if you haven't read the fourth book in this series, there are many things you may not know. It may not be that big of a problem, because the author explains a bit, but in general, I don't recommend reading this book without knowing the previous one, because following this whole story is a really great thing.

Patrick and Jono are going to London. Taking Sage and Wade with them, of course. The more interesting that Jono was once forced to leave London on pain of death and never expected to return there. Additionally, as we already know from previous books, Patrick cannot help but destroy every city he stays in for a few days.

As usual, the author has kept a good balance between the cases led by Patrick, the global conspiracy in which various gods are involved, and the affairs of the pack. We have a little bit of everything here, and all these threads connect and intertwine at some point. Everything creates a surprisingly coherent story that you really want to read.

I really like what the author decided to do with Jono and Patrick's relationship. I'm so happy she decided not to reduce their relationship to some cheap drama and endless break-ups and returns. Instead, we can observe how they work great together, support each other, and their relationship grows stronger. This is really wonderful.

I took a long time to read this book because I don't think I was in the right mood, but in the end I read it and I was not disappointed. Also, another book from this series has already been published and that’s great.

I think this installment has to be my favourite so far!

Seeing more Pack dynamics and drama and getting a bit of Jonos back story in London was so entertaining and I didn’t think seeing Patrick being jealous was going to be so satisfying, but it had me laughing 😂. I can’t tell you how satisfying it’ll be when Patrick gets over his emotional constipation, Jono is really the greatest boyfriend.

Following the story then to Paris and the catacombs was genuinely creepy. I’ve seen and read enough about the catacombs to respect how genuinely fucking horrifying they are.

Getting to meet Spencer (along with his danger kink manifesting in wanting to hook up with vampires 😂) was great. It makes me excited to get to his spin off book when I’ve finished the core story.

This story is kind of ridiculous in the way all action adventure stories are but I’m still having a blast with this series and these characters.

And that ending 😱 so excited to see what happens now

The stakes are getting higher guys and war is coming and it is coming fast.

While this wasn’t my favorite of the series, it still had all the components that I expect from this series and still rates just as high had I loved it. The writing was exceptional. Hailey has this ability to take us anywhere and I can see it like I’ve been there and experienced it myself. It is mind boggling to me. It’s brilliant. The characters, main, good, bad, all of them are well fleshed out and seem as important as the main players. It is all so fantastical but all seems so real.

I just didn’t love it. I have written and re-written this review a million times since finishing the book and I just can’t figure my feelings out.

I do get it though. We are at the 5th book of an ongoing (7 I think) series that has to keep moving. I’m just feeling a little worn out.

I’m tired. I am so very tired for Patrick and Jono and everyone else. I know, I know, I know. War is coming and there is no time for rest, but this book exhausted me. I don’t know how they go, go, go. They never sleep and seriously, if it weren’t for Wade I think they wouldn’t eat.

I’m not just physically tired either. So very much is on Patrick’s shoulders and I feel like the higher ups are always pissed at him. He needs an atta boy if anyone ever did. Seriously. It can’t always be his fault dammit!

I just feel like they need a break, even a tiny one. I think they need to be able to stay home and rest and plan. Regroup. What is coming is huge and I feel like they haven’t even had a second to really take all that in.

I’m getting nervous. It’s going to be bad and I’m afraid of what they are going to be facing. I feel like the more I connect with the secondary characters, the more they truly become family the more freaked out I get.

This picked right up after Chicago and was just as fast and furious and insane as that was, if not more. It was so exciting, edge of your seat, hold your breath exciting. It was scary.

For me though, it was just too much this time. The last book I mentioned how amazing it was that Hailey had Patrick and Jono separated but it never felt like they were apart. This one? This one they were together and I felt like they were millions of miles apart. I don’t know why I felt like that exactly and the only thing I can guess is because they don’t even get one second to just breathe.

I have come to adore Wade. No, I probably adored him from the start but even he tired me out in this one. He just seemed there to want to snack or eat and I guess we were supposed to chuckle but I just feel he is so much more than that. And yeah, he did have some great moments in this one, I loved when he was talked to, was cherished, was an integral part of the mission, but there was just a lot of him being hungry and it seemed at times that is all he was.

I don’t know what I expected from Jono’s return to London but I feel whatever it was got totally overshadowed by a Demon. It was cool to see a “friend” and Patrick to get his feathers all rumpled but I really had expected something more. Maybe more run ins with his past. It just seemed to be a little anti-climatic, but maybe that was a blessing in itself. It really didn’t seem to matter and truthfully, it isn’t his home anymore anyway.
This is probably all me. This one just didn’t rub me the same way as the others have and I really think it is just because I want them to go home. I want them to plan. I want them to sleep, talk, laugh, JUST BE!

It had everything it should have really. I was immediately sucked in and I didn’t want to put it down. I was on the edge of my seat while reading. My heart was racing and all that jazz. I just felt a little off this time.

I’m just going to have to suck it up and pretend they are all getting a good rest and a good meal while I wait for the next one. They are all hanging out and chatting and prepping and healing. Yeah, that’s exactly what I am going to do.

5 Stars!

Another great adventure!

When I read this story was going to be set in London (and Paris) I was really interested in finding out how Jono was going to handle it. Because of course he isn't going to let Patrick go on his own even if that puts himself in harms way. I think by now we all know that Jono can handle himself. I was eager to see how his arrival would trigger the London god pack. I definitely got what I wanted. Jono standing his ground and Sage being the badass she is. I LOVE her.

I don't like saying a lot of what happens in the story because I like my reviews to be spoiler free. I will say this story has so much happening in it and I want to know so much more. I hope there is plenty more to come. But considering the New York god pack that rivals Jono's is still in need of being dealt with and that Ethan is still out there somewhere I know we will be getting more books. Plural hopefully.

I really enjoyed meeting Spencer in this book. His story really intrigued me and I NEED MORE of him. Especially more on that hot kiss he shared with a certain vampire. WHAT!?! You can't just drop that in there and just go on about your business and not explain that more. I know I am in the rare group of those who love some Lucien. I was very pleased we would be getting some more of him in this story. He is one of those baddies that I can't help but really like and wish I could get his story. I really want a Spencer and Lucien story. I guess Carmen could be there as well, lol.

After traveling to London and doing some digging it seems all signs lead to Paris. And here is where all hell breaks loose. Literally. The dead has risen and zombies have taken over the streets of Paris. The fight is long and action packed to get to the point where the Morrigan's Staff is.

I don't think anyone writes a great fight scene like Hailey does. It is so well choreographed. There is plenty of tense scenes that lead to all out fights that really make you feel like your in the scene with them watching it on the sidelines. That is how well she describes what is going on. I especially enjoyed the the black auction part of the book. It was definitely one of those edge of your seat moments for me. But that ending fight... That was epic and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I mean... Zombies! It was crazy from start to finish. But what really blew my mind was the ending. OMFG! I am in desperate need of the next book now. DESPERATE!!! I can't wait to see where Hailey will take this story next.

Jono and Patrick were together the majority of the book but I still feel like I didn't get enough of them together. I think it was because it was all fighting and surviving that I missed their more vulnerable intimate moments. We didn't get much of that in this book.

Wade and Sage totally handled themselves in this book and were fierce in their help of taking down the baddies whether it be the zombies or the London god pack. And of course Wade brought plenty laughs and smiles with his antics.

I am really looking forward to the next book. If you haven't read this series I highly recommend it!

Happy reading dolls! xx

Back to the roots. I like it!

Book five of this series is definitely more like the first two books. Which I love. Thank you, Hailey. This is making me very happy.

AND THAT ENDING! OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD!!!

Other than that I really don’t know what else to say.

If it hasn’t been clear until now; I absolutely, wholeheartedly love this series.

That’s it.

That ending is as chilling as I remembered! Gah this series gets better on every re-read; and Spencer is ICONIC. I can't wait for his horny, disastrous, messy self in his own book ♥️

The only word I can think of is: spectacular. Truly and wonderfully spectacular.
I'm not sure how Hailey Turner manages it, but each book in this series is a masterpiece in storytelling and each one of them has a distinctive atmosphere, a very specific vibe, that make them all stand out in my mind: I can't decide which one is my favourite because they're all a wild rollercoaster ride in their own right.

"On the Wings of War" takes us to Europe (London, and then Paris) and even though I kind of missed New York and the Tempest pack, I loved the change in scenery. I would have loved to see a bit more of London and Jono's past, but the Paris setting was wonderfully vivid.
We finally meet Spencer Bailey, with his loyal Fatima, and well, I'm not even going to pretend I wouldn't sell my soul for a spin-off of him being a disaster badass and
We also get to see Nadine again and I have never been happier; I wish we could get a whole book of Patrick and his former Hellraisers and allies just hanging out.

I loved seeing some sides of Patrick we hadn't seen before: Jono is the over-protective one in their relationship, but here we get quite a few glimpses of Patrick being a murderous and sliiiightly jealous boyfriend. We also get a lot of Sage and Wade being spectacularly badass.
THAT ending completely destroyed me and I know I'll be slowly, and impatiently, dying to get my hands on "An Echo in the Sorrow" (SUCH a reassuring title). I'm ready to be completely destroyed by it.

This was my fave up until now.
Loved the:
- Relationship between Jono and Pat.
- Wade!!!!
- Hermes. He's so much fun.
- Spencer and his lust for Lucian... can we have a book about them please? But without Carmen.
- The settings! Between Paris and London. Loved how Patrick almost blew up the whole cities.
- The Battle was really good.
- Jealous Patrick was amazing.
-Jono... I would read about him forever and ever.
Him being back in London was both sad but powerful.
And of course Gary Furlong's amazing narration was too good for words. SO. MANY. ACCENTS

And we’re back. I loved this one and for a change I don’t have a single complaint.

Patrick has to travel to London. And this time his pack travels with him. London was never going to be easy for Jono. Having been threatened with death if he ever returns.

The story kept me reading. And Wade. Wade is just the icing on the cake. And once again I’m grateful I don’t have to feed him. Although I’ve never liked Jaffa cakes so he could gladly have mine.

This is a fabulous book. And I can’t wait for the next one.

Still one of my favorite series with great characters, a rich world building and believable interaction. There's enough humor to counter the gory fights without changing it into a laughing joke. It takes friendship and family serious, loyalty has to be earned and love doesn't come easy.

Of course there's no doubt anymore that it's love that keeps Patrick and Jono together although Patrick still can't say those 3 words and the reasoning Ms. Turner offers makes no sense and now makes me wonder about the real reason instead of just accept it like Jono does.

Like in the last 2 books the focus is definitely on the action which is so well choreographed that it kept me breathless and I probably have to read some scenes again to get the details necessary for the next books (I'm happy that it seems there's no end in sight). I just couldn't stop in the middle of a zombie apocalypse to memorize what happened with and to Morrigan's staff and understand how Patrick used the blessing. It was similar some chapters earlier in London where I was just so in awe about what happened at the end of the auction that I totally missed why the sale ended the way it did.

So we got a great adventure, fast-paced action, we see Sage and Wade thrive, we see the return of an old friend (and please Ms. Hailey don't let Spencer disappear too often), the rise of a new enemy, a break from direct divine involvement (except Hermes' odd appearance and I really would miss him – like I will miss Baba Yaga in the next books) and at the end the story is making an unexpected turn with unpredictable consequences – but I can't help it, I feel like I missed something I just don't know what yet.

Audiobook: So here we are at the fifth book in a favorite series, still trying to secure the elusive and dangerous Morrigan's staff. This time we're in Paris... and the battle was EPIC! When I finally finished this audiobook, time must have flown because I was sure this one must have been far shorter than the others. But, alas, it was over 10 hours, average for the series. It felt like it was over in a blink of an eye and I just wanted more. I think I was a bit breathless at the end.

What a series! Well written and edited. The world building was outstanding, our intrepid heroes cunningly drawn...resplendent in both their strengths and flaws, the storyline scintillating, and the magical systems ingenious and engaging. And the love story? Well, some things are forever, some more than others. And what a surprise at the end.

I just have to mention Wade. He's still one of my favorite characters in this series. In this installment he is as hungry, bordering on obnoxious, as ever but always one of their most powerful secret weapons in this magical war. I adore him, his sense of loyalty, and his love of "pets". And I love that the author made him what I consider in fiction to be a true dragon: enormous in proportion and deathly dangerous.

Well done, Hailey! I feel a book hangover coming on...

This series is EVERYTHING.

First off, the relationship. Jono and Patrick are just so solid and full of love, even if Patrick can’t say it. You can definitely feel it here in the way they look to one another, lean on each other, and just generally love with all they have. They’re definitely slotting in as one of my favorite book couples.

The pack dynamics are amazing too. Sage and Wade are such a part of this family and this book would be nothing without them. (I dare you to say Wade isn’t your favorite character, you are a liar!)

Then, of course, the main event, the incredible world building that Turner somehow tops in each installment. You have multiple pack politics, magical policing politics, foreign politics, the greater magical world, and so many different mythologies that you would think it wouldn’t work, but Turner seamlessly blends it all together and no storyline is lacking.

This installment was full of action, had a good dash of humor (WADE ❤️ and also Spencer), has so many twists and turns (that last big reveal!). It seriously had everything you could want in a book and just further proved why this series is one of my favorites.

I would have liked to have experienced more scenes in the catacombs under Paris. However, it was still very, very nice ûu

Pat & Jono

Another great addition to the series.
Once again Patrick, Jono and their pack are on a mission to retrieve the Morrigon staff. This time their mission leads them to Jono's old stomping grounds in London where they have to deal with a God pack who exiled Jono. However, their mission doesn't stop there. They are lead to Paris where chaos is prime. It wouldn't be a soulbound book without.
I liked the book hated the ending. You know cliffhangers aren't my thing lol. What a crazy reveal there at the end but, honestly I saw it coming 😜
Definitely look forward to the next.

I considered this book less of a filler, unlike the previous one. The plot has still barely moved forward, and there's not much character development for the most part. It's only towards the end that I noticed some growth from Wade and Jono; Patrick on the other hand has lost some of my sympathy.
I know I complained a lot about Jono, since the beginning and I thought now that we were back in his home country, we might see more of his past and get to know him better. But that didn't happen. And I also thought that 5 books in my opinion won't change of him at this point, but more on this in the next book's review.

This installment contained a lot of pack politics and bureaucracy which slowed down an otherwise action-packed story. So it was a weird combination of me wanting to move things along and sitting on the edge of my seat. Lucien going rogue would have helped a lot in that department I feel. As much as he is a stereotypical vampire (not the glowing one), he is still the most interesting character in the series, precisely because of how unpredictable he could be if the author would just let him loose. lol

The bomb at the end was something I saw coming for a while, I just didn't expect it. XD

So all in all it was slightly better than book 4, but still left some things to be desired.
