"Here they are, by the way, the whole Gremillet clan! When it comes to quirks, none of us are immune... sometimes I get the feeling we're all crazy!"

Oh my goodness, this was absolutely fluffy and soft but with all the chaos of sibling's interactions.

Seriously, this little comic has little in the sense of a very complicated or overarching plot but the beauty and imagination of childhood coupled with the pains of growing up and I just loved every second of it because it was the nicest reprieve that I could have asked.

With three very different sisters and a mother that has kept a secret close to her heart is easy to see how things may spiral out of control at times but, well, they are children and nothing really lasts too long or is a griveance too terrible to overcome.

Seeing the three sisters's different personalities and their interactions that were nothing short of organic and down-to-earth was really nice and exactly what I signed up for. I don't know, it just was really sweet and easy and engrossing in a weirdly laid back kind of way.

The art was just absolutely stunning and it enraptured me right from the beginning. It gave it a warm feeling at the same time that it captures the innocence of the children really well.

"Life is made up of pain too, but we can share it with those who are dear to us."

This was just as adorable as I was expecting.

It also has the PRETTIEST art.

I feel like if I don't read some comics I'm not gonna be able to read much this month either as my main read is taking me a good long time to get through with it.

Anyway, this looks like it's gonna be really cute and adorable and have all the feels and I'm so ready for it. I mean, sibling relationships are one of my main favorite tropes and I can't just pass this opportunity.

The art looks so good and I'm already foreseeing a few hours of plain ecstasy from seeing it.

The art in this book is beautiful. The colours, the lighting, the character designs, the cats (so many cats!).. all of it is just beautiful.

Three sisters live with their mother in a small town - a town for which the word 'picturesque' seems invented. One of the girls has a recurring dream, about a small, crying jellyfish (with big googly eyes - don't worry, everything in this book is devastatingly cute). She wants to find out what it could mean, and slowly makes the discovery that it has something to do with their mother's past.

It's a really sweet story, and its resolution is a perfect combination of heartwarming and sad. I was really surprised by how much it moved me.

I'd love to read more in this series, and I think you will too.

When I decided to read this graphic novel, I didn’t really know what to expect. But!!! I’m sooo sooo glad I did pick this up because it was sooo great. Also, the art!!!! It was absolutely gorgeous and vivid and just awesome. And the amount of heart in this just turns me to mush!!!

While it is very short, there’s just more bang for your buck! The story is very well done and I fell in love with the sisters so quickly!! They were just too cute not to adore!! The mystery really grabs you and won’t let go until you find out what’s going to happen.

I also love that this doesn’t have a huge cliffhanger at the end. It can definitely be read as a stand-alone, but I’m obviously waiting on the edge of my seat for the next installment!!

Just watch out for that ending. Probably should have tissues nearby... at least I needed tissues... I recommend this one to those who adore heartfelt family stories. And beautiful pictures!! All color!!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Europe Comics for allowing me to read this for my honest and unbiased opinion!!!

This was so sweet and cute!
The art reminded me of the W.I.T.C.H. comics I read as a young teen (Turns out the same illustrator, Alessandro Barbucci, has worked on both W.I.T.C.H. and Sarah's Dream. The more you know!).
It's a pretty nice read and deals with family and diferences within said family. There's also a secret involved. And a lot of cats. And cute jellyfish!

I LOVED this comic. Utterly gorgeous art, hints of a interesting universe different than our own, an air of discovery and mystery, an interesting story about secrets and family dynamics, and a fun group of sisters (and a mother, and the mother's friends) each with their own stories and personalities. Well drawn cats too. Highly recommended.

(I received an ARC from Europe Comics, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review! Thanks to both for trusting me with 'The Grémillet Sisters')

What a whimsical, cozy read this was! 'The Grémillet Sisters' is, I have no doubts, one of those stories that I will keep coming back to whenever I need a comfortable, warm, feel-good story to take shelter in. From the dynamic, vibrant art style to the story itself, this was a delightful little story that made me feel as if I were seven years old again, reading Fairy Oak or W.I.T.C.H. and getting lost in a better, more magical world.

In 'The Grémillet Sisters' we meet three siblings, who live with their mother and couldn't be more different: the eldest, Sarah, has strange dreams every night, whereas middle-child Cassiopeia lives in another world entirely and the youngest, Lucille, talks almost exclusively to her cat. (Lucy, I feel you) As the Mother's Day draws closer, the Grémillet girls decide to surprise their mum by putting together a photo album, bursting with memories. But their mother won't talk about her past, so it's up to the sisters to discover what the story of their mum is! Somehow, Sarah can't shake the feeling that it might have to do with the fairylike tree she visits every night in her sleep... And that there is something really big that their mother is keeping from them.

Short though it may be, this is a perfectly satisfying story for both children and grown-ups. As you might be expecting, the Grémillet maman's issue is a delicate one (TW: miscarriage), and yet the story remains perfectly child-friendly. I really enjoyed the careful way in which something as tragic as this was dealt with, and I also really appreciated the balance between adressing this issue with the seriousness and depth it demands, and making it accesible to the youngest readers this book will find. It is something that cannot be explained to children carelessly, and this story did a really good job.

As for the characters themselves, I grew quite fond of the Grémillets! Sarah, the eldest, may be the one I relate to the most, being the older sister myself. Still, Lucille stole my heart as soon as she showed how, not unlike me, she is the 'animals over people' type. She's like a small fairy, and I loved her so much. As for Cassie... She reminds me of my younger sister, so I really wanted to hug her and make her feel understood! Then there's the girls' mum. She's a character I really, really felt for, as preborn lives are something I do not take lightly. Barbucci managed to capture all her grief and her pain with his every line, which is something that few artists can do.

Overall, a sweet tale about a family of girls! Really, really sweet. Can't wait for the next Grémventure!

I received this graphic novel in exchange of an honest review.

I was totally hyped when I noticed this book was illustrated by Alessandro Barbucci. He is just so amazing and I look forward to each new book by him. Happy I got a chance from Netgalley to read this book.

Meet Sarah, the oldest sibling. She has strange recurring dreams of jellyfish, trees, forests, and her mom’s room. What is going on and will she find out? Then we meet her other sisters, Lucille and Cassiopeia. They don’t have the dreams and they aren’t as curious as their older sister, but they do want to know a bit more. As the story continues we see Sarah try to figure out what is behind her dreams. What the tree means in her dream. Why are there jellyfish? It was really well done and I loved each new revelation, each new part of the story, each new thing that Sarah (and at points her sisters) find out. However, I did expect a magical explanation, but instead we got something else that just brought tears to my eyes. I can imagine that mom kept that away from her daughters, that it took her so long to talk about it.

I love that we also saw what interests the other girls. One of them is in love with a boy named Ulysses (who seems quite interested in her as well). The other loves cats and is feeding several of the kitties in the town.

They are sisters though, it is obvious how they look, but also in the way they act. They bicker, argue, but also love each other so so much. I just love seeing them together working hard to make something for their mother. To bind together her memories.

The ending, and what is shown there, I already was in a couple of tears because of what we find out about mom, but that really brought out some more tears. That was so beautiful and sweet.

I am curious what is next though? This is the first volume and the story ends conclusive, everything is tied up neatly. Are there more secrets in this family? I don’t mind more, in fact I want more and more of this family, but I am just very curious how the story will go on.

The art was, as I expected because Alessandro Barbucci is my favourite Italian illustrator, fantastic, beautiful and great. I just love his style and I am glad that he has a new series.

All in all, I would highly recommend this fabulous magical story about secrets and sisterhood to everyone.

Hello, how are you? Are we all doing okay?

The other day I picked up the first volume of the Golden Sheep finally and I do not know but it feels like it suddenly made me want to read more graphic novels and manga. This resulted in me spending several hours on my Netgalley and Hoopla last night reading like five or so graphic novels, and I had the best most relaxing time. Just picking up random graphic novels, getting immersed in beautiful stories for a time and having time to read the whole thing or more than one before having to go to sleep! The Gremillet Sisters caught my eye and I just dove right in and honestly I loved it so much I am really hoping there is another volume and sometime soon.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Three sisters Cassiopeia, Lucille, and Sarah used to be the best of friends. But now they are getting a little older, developing their own interests, and having more arguments but when the oldest sister Sarah has an idea for the best mother’s day gift ever they decide to work together to make it happen! The three girls spend time trying to learn all they can about their mother, and for Sarah this means learning about her dream. Every night she has a dream where there are jellyfish, a big tree, and something to do with her mother. When the girls begin to find pictures of their mother for the present they are making, they find one that looks like it would be right out of Sarah’s dream. Sarah knows she must investigate but her sisters are not as interested in investigating as they are in making the gift! Can the girls make the perfect mother’s day gift and figure out what their mother is hiding from them?

I absolutely loved this graphic novel. Like I went to Amazon as soon as I finished reading to see if this would be made into physical copies or something I could purchase. The art is stunning inside, the colors, the lines, everything about it is just so beautiful. I love each and every character in this story and I really enjoy how they each have their own personality that shows through. (Also, as a cat lover, I thought the little sister was adorable)! The story is amazing as well. I love the plot line of the sisters, of each girl having their own things but trying to come together, and their big mystery/present situation. I am hoping (like fingers crossed) that there will be another volume.

*Thank you, Netgalley, for the eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.*

For starters, WOW. Let me just say, this was not what I expected. Reading the description, I thought, “Oh, that’s cute. I wanna read it to find out what it’s talking about.”

And that is why I read this graphic novel. But did I expect such a cute, enticing, well-rounded, beautiful, masterpiece of a story? No. I definitely did not.

The Characters:

We have the sisters. And, honestly, I applaud most every author (when applause is due) for keeping characters consistent. But this is where applause is really due.
These characters were consistent and well-rounded the ENTIRE time! And for character development? HA! Gregorio is the MASTER.

The Plot:

I can’t say too much about, because SpOiLeRs, but I will say this.
It is well-rounded and well-thought-out.
We start in one place and end in one place with no loose threads or ends. The characters all respond how one would respond and their facial expressions are ADORABLE!!!

The Art:

Honestly, I’ve seen SO many different art styles, I shouldn’t be dumbfounded to find a new one. But I am. Big surprise.
The characters’ faces and accessories are consistent, which takes LOTS of editing, and the panels are always a good size, not differing too much on scale.

The Size:

I’m actually VERY sad that this is how short it is. Sure, it’s nice ot have a one-sit-through read, but it’s sad when you actually LIKE what you’re reading. (I feel this way about most graphic novels.)
I don’t think if this were any longer it would have helped the plot. On the contrary, I think if it HAD been longer, it would have messed everything up.

The Pace:

The flow of the book was steady and consistent (all things about this book were consistent), and it wasn’t choppy. This is pretty hard to achieve with it being a graphic novel and having panels that break things up, but this achieves it!

Dislikes:

I will say, there were a lot of things going on in this book. We had the club, the mom, the minor love interest, the cats, along with other things. But now as I’m writing them out, they all fit in the end, so there are really no complaints!

Oh my goodness, I am crying!!! That was so beautiful, especially that ending!

I checked this out on Netgalley on a whim, and it was the best bookish whim I've taken in recent years! This story was phenomenal! Literally from the opening, I was sucked in and wanted to know the mystery and meaning of Sarah's dreams. I loved all the antics of the sisters (and they were VERY much sisters haha) and how they were all unique and different, but loved each other very much.

The story is fairly short and I read it in roughly 30 minutes or less, but it was such a masterpiece! I deeply enjoyed the art and the story itself.

Again, that ending was deeply moving and it hit my Momma heart in the feels. Just a strong round of applause for the author!

Eagerly anticipating the next book in this series! Now I’m off to go purchase this on Amazon!

Giovanni Di Gregarion ja Barbuccin "Sarahin uni" (Egmont, 2022) aloittaa ilmeisesti kolmiosaisen Sisarukset Gremillet -sarjan. Italialaiskaksikon ansioluettelosta löytyy monenmoista sarjakuvaa Dylan Dogista Aku Ankkaan.

A gorgeous and bright graphic novel that will take you on a journey you won't forget

Key words: dream, fiction, graphic novel, teenager and children fiction, family

This Italian graphic novel is just gorgeous. The illustrations are so bright, colourful and soft, it really takes you in a dream. The story of these three sisters and their mum is just so emotional. I loved the characters, especially the smaller sister Lucille which is just so cut and I can totally relate to her love of cats. Sarah was a bit more authoritarian so I think, even though she is the main character of this comic, she was maybe my least favourite; still enjoyed her a lot of course. I loved the idea of the sisters’ club; it was just so funny. The mystery behind the mum’s past was very nice and the search to discover what had happened was very fun. It is easy to guess what happened before the book states it, but it’s always better and more emotional when the mum is finally ready to reveal it to her daughters. It just made me feel good. I am glad that it wasn’t really an opened ending because I don’t really like waiting but I will for sure read the second book when it comes out.

4,5/5

Sometimes, books that are picked up on a whim turn out to be pleasant surprises. This was one of them.
The Gremillet sisters are a trio with each individual having strong and distinct characteristics. Sarah, the eldest, is the nurturer. Cassiopeia, the middle sibling is the dreamer, and the youngest Lucille is an animal lover. They have tussles with each other like typical sisters do, but what unites them is their quest to find out about Sarah's Dream.
The whole story goes by in a jiffy. The illustrations are absolutely awesome and the ending is quite unexpected. Overall, a very interesting read. I just wish the eldest had been given some fancier name. Next to Cassiopeia and Lucille, Sarah sounds positively bland. However, that's a minor quibble. The story and the writing definitely make the book appealing.

I received an advance review copy of the book for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The artwork in this book is absolutely stunning, However that is where you my pros end for this novel. The plot and characters were really lacking and ultimately I found myself just appreciating this because of the art instead of the story.
