A cross-country road trip turns into a nightmare run for their lives.
By Amazon, and ECPA best-selling and award-winning author
Widowed and broke, Rachel Kent collects her two children, packs up their belongings, and heads across the Ozarks to stay with her parents. They stop for the night at a newly opened campground, then take a short hike. The three return to find the other occupants of the campground murdered.
They flee the campsite and stumble upon a ranger’s cabin, where they enlist the help of handsome, former-Army Ranger, Wesley Ward, who informs them a survivalist group laid claim to the mountain.
Only God can help them now.
Can a man who wants only to escape his past and be left alone and a woman damaged by life forge a love that survives a flightthrough the Ozark Mountains?

I've read the first three books of this series. They are all really great; however, so far each one has ended very abruptly. This book was as abrupt as the second book but just the same I don't like a book ending like this. Either take the book one extra chapter or find a while to edit the middle shorter to make a nice ending. It seems like the Author ran out of room and had to end quickly.
I was disappointed in this book. The description sounded good but the book itself just didn't quite live up to expectations. A mother and her 2 kids stop at a campground while moving. As they go for a quick hike a militia type group kills everyone at the campground. They get back to their site, are spotted and flee back into the woods with the killers chasing them. Unfortunately, the story jumps straight to the killings without really setting up the characters. I felt the dialogue was simplistic, the characters unbelievable as well as the whole plausibility. From the main characters, to the bad guys and even how the police handle things were just poorly detailed and unbelievable. As if that wasn't bad enough, the editing was poorly done. Between rewritten sentences not totally deleted and typos it was irritating.
I liked and disliked this book. Lot's of grammatical errors got past those. Rachel is almost afraid of her own shadow. This book at times almost seems like a complete thought was not finished in some areas. The daughter is a complete mess, no clear thought went into the attraction between Wes and Rachel. I would consider reading another of Ms. Hickey's books just to see if maybe this was not clearly thought out.
I like this story as the characters were real life like. Some times you don't understand why they acted a certain way but as the story progresses their history explains a lot. Rachel travels home to her parents house after her husband dies. Rachel and her children stop at a campsite for the night and get stuck in the middle of a crazy man revenge for a mountain.
I really enjoy reading a good survival book, especially in the mountains and all the danger it possesses, not to mention a band of criminals on your tail as well. I love the hero's character in the book and the strong plot kept me drawn onto the story. This was my first book by this author and I will definitely be checking out her others.
I agree with one of the reviews that Rachel seemed like a wimpy, mousy woman who was afraid of her own shadow. But, I think she changed as the story progressed & she fell in love with the park ranger who showed her how strong she really was. She also renewed her love for God & began to trust Him for their safety. I definitely recommend this book & have already downloaded the others in the series!
Good and action packed book. There were times that the book dragged, but the suspense kept me going. The ending was a bit abrupt and I wish there was a little more after the resolution of the action.
I really enjoyed MOUNTAIN OF FEAR. It is a well written story with plenty of suspense. It's also a love story that will win you heart. I call it a must read.
This book could have been so much better if 1) someone would have edited it and 2) if the author could have finished it. Stopped way too abruptly and had way too many spelling errors.
