Zoe Chant loves writing paranormal romance. Over a cup of tea (or something stronger) she whips up sexy tales of hunky heroes and adventurous heroines to tantalize and satisfy her readers. Sizzling hot romance, no cliffhangers!
While series should ideally be read in order, all of Zoe’s books are standalones and can be read in any order. This includes books within series.

I have finished this book a while ago but I haven’t been able to write an interview after I finished it immediately like I always do. Any way,This book is a part of series but can read as a standalone . I actually when I read this book I thought I was starting this series but I actually read the first book in the a series a while ago but I forgot . If I remember correctly the first of the series wasn’t my favorite but it was ok and this book is definitely better in my opinion . Again if I recall correctly what I didn’t like in the first book was how the fated bond was portrayed. I love the fated mates trope so I’m so picky when it comes to this trope . In this book it was better I liked how they didn’t jump into it was definitely on the slower burn side . I didn’t like how I felt like it sometimes dragged and I was like mmm maybe we could speed this a bit . I liked the friend group and how they welcomed the FMC . The FMC was my favorite; she was smart and not naive which suits her work field . The MMC was cute and sweet but if he communicated well it would have saved us a lot of trouble.
Anyway it was a fun read if you want a pallet cleanser it would probably suit you
Fenrir is a hellhound shifter but he's been stuck in his animal form for a long time. His Hotshot firefighter team doesn't know his entire story because he doesn't remember it all. There's something between he and Lupa and when he comes face to face with her, he lets her escape and then he runs off and his team can't find him.
Darcy is a private investigator and while out on an assignment she finds a naked, unconscious man. She brings him back to her place and warms him up but he speaks very strangely and then a strange woman knocks on her door asking about him. He asks Darcy to call his firefighter team right before he passes out and by the time they get there, he's turned back into his animal.
It takes Darcy a few minutes to realize that the very large wolf and the man are the same person after his team gets to her house. It's not until Fenrir shifts into his hellhound form that Darcy accepts what she's being told. The fact that Fenrir knows Darcy is his mate just makes things more interesting.
Fenrir and the rest of the team try to track down Lupa and her gang and find her but she gets away. Fenrir wants to serum that Lupa uses to make him human again but they can't figure out how to make it for him and he can't figure out how to shift from his animal back to human on his own. And because of this he can't mate with Darcy which really depresses him.
Darcy and his team try to figure out his connection to Lupa, why he was stuck in his animal form for so long and why he can't remember what happened to him when he was still human. It was a great story full of twists and family secrets. The romance between Darcy and Fenrir was heartbreaking because they knew they had an uphill climb to be together but it was still really great to watch it happen.
I liked finding out more about the evil that's been tracking them and trying to attack them and why. We find out a lot in this story so this series is best read in order since the overarching storyline would be confusing otherwise.
OMG another entertaining and amazing read in the series. Zoe Chant is a favorite. She writes such fun and enjoyable characters. The world-building is well done.
Hellhound shifter Fenrir, who has spent all of the past four novels disguising his hellhound self as a dog, finally gets his own novel, family, and mate, in a novel that closes one chapter of the Wildfire Crew series, and opens the door to another one.
Private investigator Darcy is stunned when a naked man literally runs into her car while on a stakeout. She takes the hypothermic man (who calls himself Fenrir) home to her rented cabin to warm him up, and falls asleep with him unconscious in her bed, only to wake up with her human guest gone. In his place is a large wolf-dog, which is strange enough, until people showing up looking for Fenrir, the wolf-dog.
Once again Chant has a different kind of heroine -- Darcy has the rare genetic condition Turner syndrome, which has affected her life in a lot of different ways, but hasn't prevented her from being a strong, smart, confident woman. Plus Fenrir, with his family conflicts and complicated past is a wonderful hero. This is another great book in the series.
I think what I liked most about this one was getting to know more about Fenrir. He's been with the crew, yet not because he was in his hellhound form. Sure he had some good comments to make about things, but most things didn't make sense until hindsight. Right from the start you get a surprise, one that shocks even Fenrir himself, along with the rest of the pack. They all dealt with thing pretty good, even helped a stranger learn about all that was going on. It seemed like each new thing they all learned lead to something else, until finally we learned all about Fenrir and his past and boy...was it not pretty at all. But it did allow them to come up with a plan to fight. The ending to this one made me smile, Fenrir really deserved all the happiness he found.
The Wildfire series was my first introduction to Zoe Chant and I became hooked on the many series they have out, but Wildfire always had a special place near the top of my favorites list. However, after the atrocious way the last book ended, I almost didn't even want to read this book when it came out. (Spoiler? Every single paired off couple went baby crazy in the last book and ended up pregnant by the epilogue. I find it absolutely repulsive that the author thought this was a cute and fun direction to take absolutely EVERYBODY at the exact same time.) Needless to say, I was not nearly as eager to read this book after that fiasco as other have been.
I have to say though, this book definitely redeemed the series for me a great deal. This book made a lot of progress towards the final big battle coming up next book. It also provides a lot more information about things that fans have been dying to know for a while now. I did think the book dragged quite a bit there from about 40%-60%. There were a few minor typos and some British phrasing used by Darcy at the beginning when it's otherwise not implied throughout the rest of the book that she's anything other than American. But none of that really distracts or detracts from the story much. I also found the end to be fairly predictable and it felt rushed. The battle at Thunder Mountain was exciting though and even brought tears to my eyes there at the end. There were also several times that I laughed out loud. The book featured more Buck, who is my favorite character in the series by far, so that was good
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am eager for the next one to see how the story ends.
Darcy, a Private Investigator who was on a shakeout when an injured Adonis ran into her vehicle. She abandoned her mission to help the man, there was a mystery air about the man. When he came through she got the shock of her life when he uttered his first words.
Fenton Malvern aka Fenrir, a Hellhound shifter whom we've met since the beginning of this series. He never shifted to his human side, there was something holding him back. He had his packmates still a piece of him was missing. As we found out in the previous book, WILFIRE PEGASUS during the battle between Lupa (the baddie) and the Thunder Mountain Hotshots that he knew her and vice versa.
She was also one of his packmate, turned out she was his sister. He thought she'd died, there was so many other things from his past that he couldn't remember. Now he'd found his mate, and for the first time he'd shifted into his human form. Being on two legs was so knew to him.
His mate, Darcy aka The Bitch as he called her was stronger than she thought. When Fenrir found himself in distress, she reached out to his packmates. They were all worried about him, they got to him and shared their secrets with Darcy. It was a lot of information for the latter to take in but she handled it perfectly.
With Lupa and her gang still in the wind, the Hotspots Squad made sure to do everything to keep Fen and Darcy safe. But he made a haste decision that nearly ruined everything. Once again the Hotshots found themselves in peril, and we learned a lot more about Fen's past.
Loved the twists and turns and the unexpected surprises. Darcy, Fen and the rest oc the gang found a way to defeat Uncegila. But when they reached their destination things didn't go as planned.
WILDFIRE HELLHOUND is the fifth book in Zoe Chant's FIRE & RESCUE SHIFTERS: WILDFIRE CREW series. It was fascinating, action-packed, heart-wrenching and a fantastic read. Two thumbs up! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
****I received a free copy from the author, without any obligation to review.****
I should have probably started by reading Wildfire Griffin but I love to read dangerously! Anyway, I really enjoyed Fenrir's story. The world building was quite amazing, as it was unique. It's been a while since the last time a read a book that didn't feel like I've already read it. I'm tempted to actually read the series from the beginning!
I think this is the best book of the series. Fenrir has always been an enigmatic character and I was really wondering how his book was going to go since he's quite feral. His backstory made a lot of sense and I could see why he was the way he was. I didn't like how he kept secrets, but that was dealt with very well.
Fenrir knows that he's always been a wolf. Then he meets her and discovers that he was wrong. Come with the Wildfire Crew as they fight the demons, solve the mystery of Fenrir and his sister, meet Fenrir's mate, and figure out Fenrir's past. Not necessarily in that order.
This is one of my favorite series by Zoe Chant and this book is a prime example of why. I was pulled into the story from the beginning and kept hooked until the end. The story was amazing. Full of action and intrigue, you won't want to put this book down. I highly recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order.
Great addition to the series. Vendor has hidden from his past for 2 decades, that is until he met his mate after turning human because of an injection that inhibits his animal, a hellhound. Darcy is a private investigator on the trail of a missing husband for a client. His sister, Lupa is possessed by the demon that had previously possessed their mother. The demon has figured out how to stop the Thunderbird with the missing man who turns out to be a basilisk. Through battles and trickery, the demon releases Lupa and takes over Fenrir she thinks. They stop the demon from shooting the Thunderbird and Fenrir and Darcy force her to leave his body. She gets the last laugh because Nick shoots the Thunderbird but when he turns he's found to be his nephew Zephyr Blaise is sitting with the comatose Zephyr when he grips her hand and awakens.
Enjoyed Fenrir and Darcy's story very much. Was not what I expected, it was so much more. Learning the story behind Fenrir and Lupa was a huge piece of the missing puzzle. along with Buck's Nephew being revealed. The one issue I had was when Fenrir grabbed Darcy by her flank. Just do not think there is any woman alive who wants any part of her referred to as "flank" or names of that kind. Just a thought. But even Fenrir would have called it that so why did you? Maybe it's just me but come on there is nothing flattering about that name. I loved how pack was there for pack. I sure wish I had pack like they have. Looking forward to Blaise's story. Talk about holy reveal. Blaise's reveal was awesome. I mean no wonder she felt like she did. Wow!!!!
This is a good shifter romance, with a likable couple, and it is a good addition to the Wildfire Crew series. This series is a spin-off of the Fire & Rescue Series, featuring the children of those couples. You don't really have to read the Fire & Rescue Series first, but I believe most readers would enjoy this Wildfire Crew series more if they had read that series -- since it contains a great deal of information on the shifters, their families, and their abilities. This book gets 4 stars from me.
I liked Fenrir and Darcy, and loved that neither of them had any trouble accepting each other's unique traits. It did bother me a little that Darcy waited so long to officially mate with Fenrir. If she had been willing to mate with him sooner, they might have been able to solve their problems easier. I won't give spoilers, but I will say that I liked how their problems were resolved.
I love all the unique characters, creatures, and shifters that are included in this series. Some of them are a lot of fun, and they made the books very interesting.
One problem I have with all of Zoe Chant's series is that there is so long between books. Lots of times I have to go back and reread some of the earlier books in a series, simply because it has been so long that I don't remember all the characters. That is frustrating. I know Zoe Chant is actually a group of authors, and one person writes all the books in a series -- but I wish the books in a series could be published closer together. I waited to read the first 5 books in this series for quite a while, because I was hoping all of the books in the series would come out. But there is still at least one book left, and I don't know when it will be available. I'm hoping it will come out soon ...
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
MY RATING GUIDE: 3 Stars. A lot of details come together in WILDFIRE HELLHOUND as the series draws closer to its conclusion. This book was darker than I prefer, however, so I actually didn’t enjoy it as much as a couple of the earlier books.
1= dnf/What was that?; 2= Nope, not for me; 3= THIS WAS OKAY/PRETTY GOOD; 3.5= I enjoyed it; 4= I liked it a lot; 5= I Loved it, it was great! (I seldom give 5 Stars).
Comments ~ 1) WILDFIRE HELLHOUND deals with the wolf mascot Fenrir of the Thunder Mountain Hotshots fire fighters based in the forests of Montana. WILDFIRE HELLHOUND is Fenrir’s story. WILDFIRE HELLHOUND is a paranormal suspense romance Shifter story with a series arc which began in bk1. Although WH has its own mini-plots, action, romance & HEA, for the best enjoyment the author advises readers to begin with bk1 rather than starting with WILDFIRE HELLHOUND. I concur. 2) WILDFIRE HELLHOUND contains a certain amount of family angst, a brief moments in lack of communication between the MCs (neither which I enjoy) and is darker than most of the previous books. This wasn’t my favorite in this series. 3) WILDFIRE HELLHOUND is a Fantasy shifter novel which includes unusual shifter characters (a Pegasus, Phoenix, Griffin, Hellhound, Unicorn, Shark, a Sea-dragon and more). Until this book, the tone for this series was pretty light. 4) The “demon” element of the overall series arc is more present in WILDFIRE HELLHOUND as the conclusion to the entire series draws nearer. I prefer avoiding anything resembling the occult in my reading and their presence, for me, made WILDFIRE HELLHOUND a darker read than the earlier books. The demons are the villains, with which I can agree. 5) The WILDFIRE SHIFTER series is a “second generation” series. It follows the children of Chant’s “Fire and Rescue Shifters” series. The WILDFIRE SHIFTER series might best be enjoyed by those who read: > Light Shifter Romance Suspense novels. > Quick and easy, light/escape fiction (Palate Cleansers between more serious or other genres). > Chant’s light Shifter Romances
READER CAUTION ~ Not recommended to readers who prefer Clean fiction or to YA readers. PROFANITY - Yes. Strong language is used. VIOLENCE - PG. Chaos and destruction are threatened and a terrible threat is present but overall the tone remains less dark and/or graphic than many thrillers or mysteries. SEXUAL SITUATIONS - Yes. Brief intimacy occurs (which could be skipped if desired).
FENRIR!! I couldn’t wait to get to the Hellhounds’ story! I just wanted to crawl inside his hellhound brain and see the world like he does. He could see everyone for who they are even if They didn’t even know themselves. We knew going into this story that we were going to get some sort of traumatic backstory as to why Fenrir thinks his true form is a wolf and why he doesn’t remember his past. But yikes! I NEVER WOULD HAVE GUESSED his actual story! Let’s just say he has deeply personal ties to both Lupa and the SnakeMother/ Uncegila…
This book was very a very personal story of Fenrir and Lupa and you get ALL THE HISTORY, including Lupas mark and connection to Uncegila. We also got to see Blaise shift for a brief moment and that in itself is an emotional jaw-dropper.
I think the biggest unexpected twist comes at the very end of the book when we finally see the thunderbird. Wow!! It’s definitely set up for the final book, Blaise.
This series has been very enjoyable, but not something I would ordinarily choose because of the LOW (non-existent) PG level steam. There’s more story than romance and other than the idea of soulmates, the 2 MC usually spend the book fighting outside forces and never actually get to know each other so you’ve just got to trust that they are match.
There were a lot of inconsistencies in the shifting lore throughout this series which I found annoying, like only mated humans can see the shifters but in several books the humans were able to see shifters without being mated, including this book.
I liked this character the most because of his zest for life and human experiences, seeing colors, trying human foods, etc. all for the first time in 20 years. I’m anxious to get Blaise’s story and conclude this series story regarding Uncegila and Thunderbird.
I looked forward to this book so much, and honestly hated it. Darcy SUCKS. I don’t know how to say “woman with little man syndrome” in a political correct way so I’m going to have to just use that. Apologies if you’re offended. Also, what is with all the unqualified people trying to diagnose issues like ADHD, OCD, or just saying someone is just mentally ill? Darcy was rude, condescending, ungrateful, and clueless. She repeatedly disrespected everyone by just flat out refusing to take the fated mates thing seriously. I get being hesitant but telling someone that another fated couple probably just fell out of love and split? Then ignoring their explanation because she’s just sUcH A gENiUs? Just sooooo independent and fantastic. Horrible woman. I don’t know what the author was thinking with this terrible woman. She never apologized!! Fenrir deserved someone SO MUCH BETTER AS A MATE. She flat out rejected him and that was never addressed. Throwing a fit mid-ya-know because she felt “insignificant” in missionary? You’re joking. Let it gooooo!! I hate what some of these authors have been doing. A truly strong person is able to ADMIT when they have been wrong, and apologize. They are able to admit when they don’t have the knowledge to comment on something and keep their mouth shut. Stop making these women that are so “strong” but are really just childish.
a wolf learning to be human, lost souls, mysterious poison
Fenrir has always been a wolf until one day he wasn’t. The day he accidentally met his mate. Darcy is small, fierce, competent, intelligent and empathic. The story is fascinating from the perspective of Fenrir the wolf. Mysteries from the other books are unfolded and many questions are answered. Who is Fenrir, Lupa, how are all the deaths related, and more. The camaraderie is continued and the pack is endearing. The book is enthralling. Looking forward to the final book. I usually write my reviews right after I finish reading but as I thought about this series I felt I need to add to this review. If you like fantasy world building with a strong in this world feeling this series is for you. start at the beginning of the series as far back as the first Fire and Rescue Alpha Team because it will give background for this part of the series. Zoe Chant creates incredible diverse interesting characters who are endearing, funny, and lovable. She places them in situations with background that is real for all people ie: children of very successful parents, individuals not happy with their own selves wanting to be someone else, mourning, autism, falling in love, fear of falling in love, etc. I am throughly enjoying the series.
PI Darcy Soloman wants the stray doctor she’s tracking to show and she can end this case in too damn cold Montana, in winter, at midnight! Instead of doc running into the wifi cafe, a gorgeous eyed, nude fine specimen of male with too much facial hair collapses after running into her parked car. Not totally nude, he’s wearing a Hotshots’ harness and a feathered tranquilizer dart!
Fenrir awakes to a different reality. He’s away from the camp and his pack with a human female leaning over him and a woman called Lupa, claiming to be his sister at the woman’s door. Fenrir doesn’t know much but he knows he has to protect Darcy and Lupa also needs his protection. Fenrir knows that but not much else. Luckily, Darcy reaches the team for him.
The most complex multi-layered character deserved and received the most complex multi-layered tale as Fenrir’s unknown past spools and lays bare for his future; resolution comes for Lupa, the wendigo and the slithering snake; Blaise gives us a glimpse of her power and someone gets to wear a custom ‘big friggin’ hero’ suit well but this reader would’ve been quite pleased with less Darcy and less repetition. Rating: 4.25stars
This is a story that I have been waiting for! Fenrir is such a wonderfully complex character. Darcy is definitely worthy of him. Both of them are hugely loyal to pack, even when Darcy doesn't get what that means at the start. There are many twists and turns and the ending is a huge cliffhanger. I loved the very start of the story! Darcy is a private investigator. And Fenrir runs right into her car... I won't give away the best part of this start! But it got my attention, and kept it the whole way through.
This story has a fast pace, a hopeful tone and a character oriented storyline with some action and some steamy scenes. The characters are vibrant and engaging. I love watching all these characters grow closer. I can't wait to see what happens in the next and probably last story in this series. Then I will re-read all of the two series: Fire & Rescue Shifters followed by Wildfire Crew which is some of the children of the original series. Read them in order and enjoy an engrossing, exciting bunch of shifter romances! Enjoy!
Title: Wildfire Hellhound Series: Fire & Rescue Shifters: Wildfire Crew -#5 Release Date: #AlreadyReleased Author: Zoe Chant Reviewer: Ingrid Stephanie Jordan Serial: Standalone, No Cliffhanger Genre: #PRN #HellHound ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ •••••••••••••• 💢Another enjoyable read. Actually I love all Zoe Chant’s books. Everything you want is immediately right there. Again all there books are a Must Read!! 🔹️Darcy is a Private Investigator hired by a doctors wife to find him. The doctor ended at a gas station that Darcy has been staking out. When a huge naked man comes bouncing off her car, running to the gas station before he passes out. 🔹️Fenrir is a Hellhound he has never talked let alone shifted but he did. Anything for Darcy but she doesn’t understand him yet she feels like she has to try. Why is that? ☄️ This review is my own opinion, this author is one that I love to read her books.
This is the fifth book in this series and starts where Wildfire Pegaus left off. It is another exciting fast paced story full of friendship, love, danger, drama, silliness, misunderstandings, and magic. I have been waiting for Fenrir’s story. In previous books, Fenrir is a hellhound only and insists that he is not a human shifter, he is a wolf. At the start of this book, when Fenrir first meets Darcy, a private investigator, he is a human, he is naked and appears to have been shot with a tranquilizer. Darcy takes him home and when Fenrir wakes up he is confused to be in a human body and has difficulty making his body behave the way it should but he understands that Darcy is his mate. The two follow the twisting road to their HEA while continuing to battle the demons that like to possess magical creatures, keeping safe from the lightening throwing Thunderbird, and dealing with Lupa who is part of Fenrir’s origin story. The way the book deals with Fenrir’s use of “drugs” to stay human and to avoid his inability to control his animal and his unwillingness to look at his forgotten past gave me all the feels. I love when real issues are included in romances - it makes for more rounded characters and storylines. With Wildfire Hellhound, Zoe Chant again proves she’s a fantastic paranormal romance author. I cannot wait for the final book in this series.
Fenrir is a mystery. A Hellhound determined he is not a shifter, he's strictly a Hellhound disguised as a very large dog. Never a human. He's the Thunder Mountain Hot Shot crew's mascot. And boy can he set a backfire. And he's the world best bestower of nicknames. He stumbles into the path of Darcy, a private investigator, and the mystery thickens. For a brief, shining moment Fenrir is a man, the shifter he never thought he was. But will that light continue to shine? Can Darcy, as his true mate, find the truth, and unravel Fenrir's twisted past? Will Fenrir be able to continue as a shifter, or slide back to the dark? Can Darcy help him overcome his sad, tragic past? This is a bittersweet, touching, yet exciting story. Pack, family and community must gather together to fight the forces of evil. Will that be enough? Fortunately, for Fenrir, Darcy is much more formidable than expected, both emotionally, intellectually and physically. Wonderful!
Wildfire Hellhound is the fifth book in Zoe Chant’s Fire & Rescue Shifters: Wildfire Crew Series. This was a well written paranormal shifter romance novel with fantastic characters, sizzling chemistry and a great storyline. In this story, past, present and the future collide when Fenrir meets his mate Darcy. This was the first story in the Wildfire Crew series that I have read. Chant recommends reading the first book in the series in order to better appreciate the continuing storyline and various characters. However, she does such an amazing job writing that I don’t feel like I missed anything by not reading the first four books. What this story has done is piqued my interest and I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in this heart warm, action packed and hilariously funny series.
This is a voluntary review for a free copy I received.
I absolutely love the Fire & Rescue Shifters, both the original and the Wildfire crew! If you haven't already read these series', I would highly suggest that you do. It's not necessary to do so prior to reading this book, but I would recommend it. You'll have a better understanding of the characters, their backgrounds and families, and the aspects between the crews. They're all absolutely awesome stories with lots of humor and suspense. You won't be disappointed! This was a fantastic story that I have been waiting for. It certainly had some wild twists and turns, unexpected surprises, and a great ending. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series, and hopefully it'll be out very soon! Hint, hint!! ;) I would definitely recommend this book, series, and exceptional author.
Wow Fenrir’s really been on a journey. Stuck in hellhound form for decades, lost from his original pack. Darcy was a great character in my opinion. She was open to accepting the new information about shifters but wasn’t going to let anyone or anything push her into making rash decisions. It’s really interesting that the author chose for her to have Turner syndrome. I cant agree with how Fenrir went about anything in this book really (but we aren’t meant to). For all he told everyone else that pack is pack and trusts pack, he’s rather hypocritical. But I loved his explanation of The Bitch title.
In the end, I like how the plot wound up for the most part. I wish the book had a bit more humour. But poor Blaise. Honestly, her whole situation sucks bad weather (including thunder storms it seems 😉)
Love the stories of these shifter firefighters and their mates. Fenrir has remained in wolf form only shifting into his hellhound form. He speaks telepathically with his pack members. Darcy is a PI who has been hired to find a missing husband. Her search takes her to Thunder Mountain where she happens upon a naked man laying in the snow. She gets him inside her cabin and eventually he comes to but his speech is choppy and he's having a hard time trying to get up and walk. Fenrir finds himself in human form and much to his dismay he realizes Darcy is his mate. Darcy suddenly finds herself in a world of shifters fighting an evil snake demon. Fenrir has been one of my favorite characters in this series and I loved reading his story.
