Rate this book
Contains books one and two of the 24/7 Demon Mart series.

The Graveyard Shift, book one

Lloyd Wallace is the most clueless crossing guard the intersection of hell and earth has ever seen. So clueless, that he doesn't even realize the beer cave in the corner store where he works is the gateway to hell.

The gate needs a hero, but Lloyd's a zero, a loser with a capital L. He had no money and no prospects until the night he accidentally slayed a one-eyed tentacle monster hellbent on world domination. And, impressed by his pure heart and bravery, the suave but devilish owner of the 24/7 Dairy Mart gave Lloyd a job.

His coworkers - a karate-chopping bombshell and a talking roach with a really bad attitude - need Lloyd's help to keep the demons in line. Can he man up and become a world-saving hero? Or, will he remain a couch-surfing zero? The fate of the world is on the line. What could go wrong?

Monster Burger, book two

One loser, one karate-chopping bombshell, and one talking cockroach stand between you and the zombie apocalypse.

Demon Mart has a serious pest problem. Shoddy construction has compromised the gate. Even the neighborhood is in flux, now that the Monster Burger across the street has a snooty new owner with a personal beef against the Demon Mart staff. And Lloyd Wallace, one-time world-saving hero, is too scared to leave his house. He's had a bit of trouble dealing with the fact that zombies are real.

When the store's living dead staff get restless, and human customers start shuffling around, absolutely starving, ready to eat anything they can get their hands on, it's clear 24/7 Demon Mart has a big problem. It's ground zero for the zombie apocalypse.

It's up to DeeDee, Lloyd, and Kevin to save the day - again. But Lloyd will have to conquer his crippling fear long enough to do his job?

Includes bonus content: Hell for the Holidays, a 24/7 Demon Mart Christmas special.

Audiobook Review

Since this was 3 stories, I'm going to review them separately. Spoilers abound, be warned.

The Graveyard Shift #1

I dunno how to start this one. I laughed my butt off for most of this, but the main MC, Lloyd is really unlikable. I mean, he is a "My Dear" fedora dude in the flesh and I would think he spent a lot of time on certain sections of reddit, because that is how he comes across. He dropped out of college, got kicked out of his girlfriends apartment, and now lives with his parents. He also owes a lot of money to everyone. He has no job, no money, no self respect. Nothing.

One day, he decided to go get a slushie with the remaining money he had only to find out that he must have lost some of the coins as he rode his bike to the store. Having already made the slushie, he was thinking of stealing it. Then some weird stuff happens and suddenly he has a job. Now mind you, he never reads the manual for the job so he was thinking that this was a normal store and that is not what he got.

He literally spent the rest of the book learning things he would have already known had he read the book. Or asked questions. Or even used two brain cells.

I have no idea why, but I was sucked into this audio and this new to me narrator, and I am about to start book two.

Monster Burger #2

Yall..

I laughed my butt off with this one. I have no idea why but Lloyd has grown on me. I think I actually adore him now. I do wish he would just read the freaking manual.

In this one, horrible things keep happening to the night shift at Demon Mart. One after another, with no real reason. The ending had me, I did not actually guess the reason for all this. It was a great twist.

For this story, we had an angel in an 8 ball, evil nekkid pixies, a giant plant named Larry who was pregnant, men with no heads as their faces were on their chests, and zombies. Lots and lots and zombies.

Lloyd, Kevin the roach, and Dee Dee (I am not sure how it's spelled, I read this in audio) are a kick ass team and I cannot wait until book three.

Hell for the Holidays - Novella

Omg, this might be the best one yet.

Lloyd is off of work for the holidays and you would think that would mean some peace and quiet but oh no, not for this group of workers of the Demon Mart.

So it is Christmas and it is the only time of year that Lloyd's parents have their own parents over and those parents hate each other. But due to the fact that it's going to snow like 25 inches, the family arrives a day early. The day of the annual party that everyone else was coming to.

Spoilers from here on out because I want to share this.

So Dee Dee and Kevin the roach show up, as does Doc a fella that runs a cursed pawn shop who has the hots for Lloyd's grandmother. One of the monsters from the store is outside cause Dee Dee snuck him out of the store before it was locked down.

While all this is happening, the storm, the people in the house, the party, and all that, a van filled with escaped murderers is heading toward their area.

The horrible woman that is a "friend" of Lloyd's mother and has been in each book so far, causes the van of murderers to have an accident and they die. Their ghosts then want vengeance and possess the snowmen that Lloyd worked so hard on.

Then that ending. Like the rest of the books, the ending of this novela was awesome.

I am loving Lloyd's growth. He is still weak and has not read the manual, but he is learning to be more selfless.

The narration was beyond good and I will definitely listen to more by this narrator.

I really enjoyed this for the first few chapters. Really interesting story and some interesting characters and concepts but the protagonist was so incredibly stupid and annoying through the entire book it ruined it. I mean how many crazy supernatural things can you see and be a part of before you stop saying "wow that's weird I thought I saw this weird thing but that can't be real."

The protagonist is stupid, whiney, self-centered, and generally unlikeable. I really thought this would be a story of growth or redemption, like he would become a better (less annoying) person through all these adventures, but nope. He was the same whiney brat at the end as he was at the beginning. There's no way I could torture myself through a second one of these books.

Completely unlikable protagonist whines constantly about why nice guys finish last. Problem is he is so far from a nice guy. The guy is lazy, selfish, ignorant, stupid, skeevy, fat and out of shape, and lacking compassion. Does he have a kind heart or a great sense of humor to offset his clear negatives - NOPE. Kept rooting for the monsters to take him out! Great narration and kind of cool chick co-worker doesn't make up for the MC that I despised.

The premise of book sounded great, however, the end result did not live up to expectations. Lloyd is quite annoying, which would be fine if there any sort of character development, but there isn’t. He is the same dude at ending as he was in the beginning. Also, so many things could have gone a lot smoother if he’d only read his magical employee handbook (which he refuses to do for books 1-2.5). I won’t be finishing the series

A really cool idea but instead of a thoughtful and exciting read, it’s filled with simple and crude/childish humor. Obviously there are those who have loved these books- it just wasn’t meant for an audience that includes me.

This was an interesting premise and the writing style is hilarious. Unfortunately the main character is immature and annoying throughout the entire book. He never grows or becomes better, he just whines and bumbles his way through. I will not be continuing with the series.
