Those who follow the noble art of cultivation know that there's no place for evil in their craft and that all that matters is reaching the Heavens. But to do that, one must unlock their Force.
The Fallen Star Sect's expedition to the mysterious cave ended in tragedy: hundreds of their most talented students lost their lives in the dark tunnels. No less horrible was the fate of those who had found themselves at the imperial palace at the time. Nobody could've predicted such a turn of events. The empire is on the brink of collapse. The moment of civil war draws nearer. But Kai won't participate in any of it. That's all behind him. Instead, he has set off on a new adventure that'll lead him far east, where he'll have to find a way to heal, become stronger, and finally find his place in this merciless and cruel world.
Not the greatest book. 50% of the book was just like book 1&2 The other 50% had significant issues
50% of the book was the same as book 1&2. Competition and tournaments seem to be a regular thing in this world. Bad guys seem pretty one dimensional and have an obligatorily similarity with one another from each book. Again Kia our protagonist seems to always have aces up his sleeve to win out the day.
Just to be clear this first 50% was-is really boring.
The 50% that just bugged me. First and foremost, the dialogue between characters is just awful. The author used a lot of cliche phrases. “Not on my watch” during a big battle. That was the most aggravating for me.
The other issue is with the facts the author provides to the reader. They change for no good reason. The tournament is a prime example, we are told one thing then it changes. The no kill rule is another. It gets violated and explained away, but without success. The author often paints his characters into corners.
Overall it would have been a cool book but all of the issues make it not great.
Although the story is compelling, there are a lot of mistakes (maybe translation mistakes). Also, I did not quite enjoyed the style of suddenly jumping the story forward, it was confusing and seemed like (in some cases) the story line was being rushed. It's almost like the author was publishing Chinese style (a chapter a day) because you can see inconsistencies
I have to say I think one of my favorite Parts about this serious is that there isn't too much focus on certain aspects of the character becoming stronger. I like how we learn later on of some different changes so that way it's more surprising when it happens. I also love a lot of the twists but come into play. This book is done in such a way that you're entertained the whole time and you can't help but feeling attachment to the different characters. Can't wait to read the next book.
Very interesting series, was getting a bit slow towards the middle of this one. But the ending was good and has made me want to read the next book in the series.
Overall the first 3 books have all been a good introduction to this world and the people within it. I do enjoy that they are not afraid to jump forward a few weeks or months at a time as it would feel a bit unreasonable for some of the changes to occur in a short period of time.
I'm glad that they choose to not hand wave this and actually show that some things do take a long time to learn and master.
Ok the ending of this book made me curious about 2 massive things.. 1 what happened to his sister. Is she still alive? 2 What happened to his mentor is she still alive? Guess I will see her in the next book for number 2 hopefully she still lives.
I am relatively new to the gamelit genre and got into it when I read the first book in this series of books. This then exposed me to other Russian gamelit and wuxia (martial arts/level up with training) authors. I highly recommend this series even if just for the story and the main character's travails in getting stronger and protecting those he cares for. If you have not tried reading a gamelit book, this is a good one to try out.
Seems like the quality has gone down a bit in my honest opinion, from the first book. Still a good book though. A couple of minor errors, and some inconsistencies. Almost need a cultivation guideline, it’s hard to keep track of what goes where, and it seems rushed especially with the time skip, really hard to see how so much got done within that time. Other than that very cool... nice plots within plots.
Definitely a good read,i loved the progress the protagonist made in his cultivation. the twist at the end will make the next book interesting to say the least, super excited!
Fast paced page turner with interesting characters that you can instantly root for. Definitely can't wait for book four to come out. This book really moved the story along nicely with a really good surprise ending
The fun and adventure continues in this book. We see more exotic places, monsters, fights and glimpses of powerful beings. Also a wider world opens up. Can't wait for the next one. Soon please
I liked the tempo of the story and the world building. Character progression is ok send rushed and not as detailed. Would like to see the next book deal with that but overall a decent read.
I am no English nazi, but the editing could use some work. I can live with the editing issues if the author pops out books faster:). The story line is excellent.
Didn’t see that coming! But who cares, this book is awesome!!! Very very detailed, you really painted an amazing picture! I can’t wait for the next one!!!
The series is getting good with this third book. The conflicts are tense and thrilling and the twists and turns our character traits in his journey are fun to observe.
This ends this series for me. What a let down. This book abandons any pretense of being a story and goes on a full on kid battle, "I shot you!" ... "No you didn't, I had my forcefield up!" The author sadly just starts creating whatever he wants or needs to make his character SUPER MAGE!
I personally hate stories that can't even follow their own plot lines or the rules of their own universe.
Stories like this require the ever increasing POWER of the adversaries. For example: At first, its just a lizard and the MC has to learn how to hold it. Next it's an iguana and the MC has to use his latent muscles to carry it home. Soon it's an alligator and the MC has to learn kung fu to take it down. Next it's a Komodo Dragon that the MC must use his laser eyes to defeat it. Ooops, now it's a T-Rex and the MC uses his magic nose to stop time and with his SUPER magic toe turns it into his new companion.... Think that's it? Oh no! IT'S GODZILLA! The MC finds and eats a rare mushroom that fills his bowels with a potent and magical neuro-toxin that can envelop all of Tokyo.... on and on... Just make it up as you go....
Towards the last part, I started skimming through it just to finish it. A person who likes LOTS of random fights that create moves and items at need and explains everything in hindsight to make it seem 'okay,' then they'll probably like this. To me, it just got annoying and boring.
A bit too much! I mean, I get that the protagonist is unique in so many different ways, each way is as probable as winning the national lottery. FINE. But the storyline is almost the same throughout the the three books. It goes as follows: Me came, me saw bad people, bad people are powerful, so powerful. Me kick and destroy them because I’m so unique and train hard. Me saw some nice people so they become my friends. They are barely strong compared to me and I have to help them from time to time. Rinse, repeat and repeat. Don’t forget to change the locations, to show how powerful the bad guys are and how amazed the people are with the protagonist success and power. I kept expecting something more, anything new but everything stayed the same: the story line, the character behaviour even the curse words are the same for all the characters! Come on man you are better than this.
Average, the constant change of setting while having a repetitive plot doesn’t do it for me. Why joining this sect and then leaving relatively soon after? Why not just following this a little further? While the setting seems rushed, it’s the same plot over and over again and the mc just never loses. Kinda takes away the thrill and excitement. Also the plot twist in the end with the gate and earth? I don’t know how this will work out, but I imagine it to be very annoying for me, so I probably won’t keep reading. Also where the heck did the rewards from the tournament go, these spirits? they just get completely ignored for the rest of the book.
Was a good story for learning what does good in a story and what doesn’t, but that’s it.
Overall rating would be 4/10 but the ending with earth drops that significantly, I don’t want to read past that.
