I am an undercover cop disguised as a man.

He is the heir to a mafia empire.

Victor Sokolov, the heir to the most powerful mafia family in the city, is stepping into power.

Cruel. Merciless. A demon wearing the face of an angel.
He is on a purge to rid the gang of every deceitful follower, paving the way to his succession with a trail of corpses. It won’t be long before the city turns into a battlefield.

He is recruiting new blood into his ranks and I am the rookie agent being sent to breach them. After all, no one has studied him and the movements of the Sokolov Clan as obsessively as me.

My department doesn’t just give me a fake ID.

I am also disguised as a man.

Soon, I’m plunged into a world unlike anything I could have ever imagined. Every moment spent with Victor makes me question everything I know about myself.

I’m torn between fear and desire, right and wrong, pain and pleasure as I struggle to win his trust. My body and mind are betraying everything I’ve been taught to abhor.

Can I still remain one of the good guys or will the devil devour my soul completely?

The Heir is a RH dark mafia romance between mobsters and a disguised female agent. If you enjoy romantic suspense with organized crime, then this is for you. This book contains dark themes and steamy m/m and m/m/f scenes.

I decided to read this book because I loved the premise... A female cop infiltrates a gang as a new male recruit. Then she meets the mafia heir and a few of his men, and they feel attracted to her, only they think she’s a boy. Thus: conflict✨

Or at least that’s what I thought.

The reality was a let down. First of all, chief of police picked our protagonist to infiltrate because she was a walking enciclopedia on this mafia family. And they decided she would present as a man to avoid men trying to rape her. But turns out she ended up in a gang full of gay men.

They were supposed to know this! The mafia heir was openly gay and in a gay relationship with a male pornstar. He took offense when someone called him a closeted homo, because he was out and proud. But somehow these cops had no idea. Alright.

I could’ve looked past that silliness, but things only got worse from there.

Victor, the Mafia Heir who is proudly gay, River, his boyfriend and Alexei, his straight cousin, the three are instantly into “him” and in all three of their point of views, they keep saying how Danny is “different” and that’s why they are so into “him”. The narrative is unaware of how biphobic it is that everyone is either gay or straight, but never something in between. And the idea that any gay man would feel attracted to an androgynous woman in a suit is kind of insulting and weirdly homophobic, too.

But you know what, I could look past this because it’s obvious the author didn’t realize what her text was loudly implying.

But then we got Danica aka Danny, the infiltrated female cop presenting as a man. She could’ve made things better, sadly she didn’t.

First of all, she’s into the mafia heir from the get go. He forced her to kill a man, and she was still panting after him. He was cruel and controlling and when he was being nice, it was because he was treating her like a pet. He literally told her he would kill her if she ever betrayed him (hello??? She already did), and you know what her reaction was? Wanting to fuck him right there and then. No matter what awful shit the mafia heir threw at her, she was constantly aroused by his mere presence.

Her horniness got so bad, she forgot she actually didn’t have a dick and let the mafia heir stick his hand inside her pants. Girl, I’m all for horny female characters but not when that makes them stupid. At least, I thought, the conflict would finally happen and we would get to see the gay mafia heir struggle with his attraction for her. I was that naive.

Oh nay, nay.

When the gay mafia heir and his gay pornstar boyfriend discover Danny is a girl, their literal reaction is… none. They don’t care. They believe she did that to protect herself among the gang, and suddenly they are not gay anymore. Because both still want her. But they are still gay, because they discuss how they have never been with a woman or felt any kind of sexual attraction for a woman before. But Danny was just different.

They had never been near a vagina before but they managed to find her clit and even give her 5 orgasms!!! There are straight men in their 40s who still ask “there?” when trying to wet their dicks and these gay men were suddenly straight sex gods.

Again, I could try and ignore that. But where was the angst… The yearning… the pining… the conflict…??? What a waste of a good plot, it’s infuriating!! And worse of all, it was boring.

And then, the last nail in the coffin for me in any book: there was a non-con scene.

River spiked Danny’s drink to help “him” loosen up and she ended up passing out on their couch. And River starts to kiss her and pet her over her clothes, until Victor tells him to stop. That was disgusting enough but then, they decided to have sex next to her and when they came, they got some of it on her face as a symbol of ownership, because “he’s ours.”

Afterwards you learn River was a victim of human trafficking since he was 7 years old. He’s been working on brothels and making porn all his life. That’s all he knows. He was literally a sex slave since he was 7, and Victor “saved” him from his last owner only to own him instead. So River is not Victor’s boyfriend. He’s his pet. He isn’t free to go or do whatever he wants. He lives in Victor’s penthouse, waiting for him and ready for sex whenever Victor demands it. He still films porn. And he knows Victor only sees him as something to possess, not an equal human being.

And that’s when I understood why River ruffied Danny. No one had ever respected him, so lines are definitely blurred for him. Once Victor told him he was molesting Danny, River was horrified. He couldn’t even see what he was doing because no one had ever respected him. It broke my heart and made me feel sick.

And lastly, this is a personal preference, but the casual use of drugs during sex was a turn off for me.

Well. Mafia isn’t usually my favourite trope and nor is MMF (moving towards RH in book 2 I’m guessing) but this was different to the others I’ve touched on. Danica (Danny) is an undercover cop infiltrating the mafia hierarchy - disguised as a guy. And of course crossing paths and falling for the very people she’s supposed to be entrapping. I really enjoyed it, and am moving on to the second book in the series now 🖤🔥.

Trigger warning- lots of violence, graphic detailing about torture.

Loved this book! It contains MM, MF and MMF. It had a unique plot which intrigued me so I just started reading it without any expectations and it was amazing to see all the characters' and the story's progression! I loved Victor so much. The fact that he is openly gay despite being ridiculed for it since he is also a mafia heir made him so amazing. And I so fell for him when he said he loved Danica because of her capabilities regardless of what's her gender.

Can't wait for the next book!!😍

Wowzers! This is literally the best thing ever. It has my two favourite things in it Mafia & MM. It is amazing, the characters are refreshing and complicated - The MC goes undercover to bring down these guys but she never expects to fall in love with them. - I could not put this down this is a writer I just know I'll be devouring more of!!

I genuinely don’t know what to say about this book. It was good? But also the first time I genuinely hope one of the love interests dies at the end of the story? Victor just is not salvageable to me.

I liked the gritty and realistic nature of the story, and I appreciate Danny as a nuanced and well-developed character. I hope we get to see more of her struggles as the series goes on and she doesn’t go full-tilt crazy just because the sex is good.... I like that she seems strong and independent and I’d hate for that to change. Also I hope we see more Alexei and get that story line developed!!! Book 2 here I come.

This series is dark. She's undercover and lying, but falling in love with these people who seem beyond redeeming. She's forced to do horrible things and her loyalties are torn between love and duty. The things she does and that happen to her are pretty horrible, so yeah beware. This is a romance though so there is a HEA.

I’m kind of on the fence

This is my first read from this author and I feel like I am always harsh or more critical when I first read them so I always do my best to give them the benefit of the doubt...Anyways, this book has left me kind of on the fence between a 3 and 4 star review. There were aspects I liked, and aspects that had me rolling my eyes. Overall, I like the idea of an undercover cop infiltrating a massive mafia to take it down. Even better that she is disguised as a man but that rouse didn’t long. It was super steamy with plenty of edge of your seat drama wondering when Danny’s cover will be blown.

There were too many things that made it extremely hard for me to believe. One thing that was glaringly hard to believe is how easy and quick she ended up as a close contact to the Heir of the mafia. Something else that kind of stuck out is the terminology that was used at times, especially in regards to the hospital and how emergency room visits/emergency surgery work. And as a gun owner, the way Danny handled a firearm had me cringing. Danny, girl get a holster and keep your finger off the trigger until you’re ready to shoot.

I wasn’t quite sure about the relationship dynamic between Danny, River, and Victor. I almost felt like Danny was coming between River and Victor at times. I also didn’t really like how Victor made River feel which came to light during Danny and River’s impromptu date to Central Park. Now when they both discover her lie about her gender, I don’t really know what I expected or even wanted to see happen. I like the idea how it was obvious in that moment that both River and Victor were attracted to Danny not because of her looks but more so because of her actions and personality. It wasn’t all shallow attraction based on looks alone. I was surprised that they didn’t step back from that situation and question her motives more but it did make for a hot scene. I can’t wait for Alexis to find out she’s a woman because that will be an explosion of lust that had been denied for too long.

The whole book really did have me anxious about what action of Danny’s would ultimately tip off Victor or any of the other members of the mafia. It was full of high tension moments. I do plan on reading the next book in the series so I can see this delicate web of lies that Danny has weaved all come crashing down.

A word of warning, this book does has MM, drug use, and murder so if that isn’t something you are interested in reading, you may want to skip this one.

Hotness factor 10/10

This unputdownable story about a rookie female cop going undercover as a young male gang recruit in the most ruthless mafia gang in the city is just stunning.

It is incredibly violent, there would be some pretty full on triggers for some people - it is very very dark, but holy hotness hell it is such a fantastic read. I read it in one sitting, it's 1.30am and I am off to download book 2.

Why are you still reading this? Go buy... Lol ;)

Dark mafia men... sexy men...

Danny is in a very unfortunate situation. Everyone is in control of her life except for her! She just wants to do her job but falls victim to the charms of the Sokolov men. Loyal to men who threaten her life, yet still dedicated to the job. I can’t wait to see what happens in book 2!!

It feels as though I haven't taken a breath since I started this book, unbelievable how fast I was sucked into a plot so devious nobody would guess, so it's the discovery element that haunts you. Danica has started to make her mark on the Intel job she does but now she is being given a different job, a job she might not want especially when it means she gets to meet Victor Sokolov the heir to the Sokolov family business. You are about to board a runaway train so hang on tight.what a fabulous read can't wait for next book. I voluntarily reviewed this book.

So this is more a review of the series, which I ended up DNF book 3 about 50%. I liked the original concept and am a complete sucker for the mulan trope. The plot development was alright— not great, but not bad either. That kinda ended up being the whole theme of the series— not bad, but not great.

What made me DNF it was it just got ridiculous. I had a hard time taking Victor and Danica seriously. Victor is supposed to be this mastermind mafia boss and he just ended up being unhinged all the time and not in a smart way. Danica was this “you’re not like other girls” woman that is supposed to be a smart undercover cop, but also the ‘blushing virgin’ trope. It didn’t work.

Then we get to book three, where I really started to get annoyed. One— everyone is homophobic in it. Really??? Don’t get me wrong, lots of people are homophobic which i’m assuming translates to the crime ‘underworld’ but in a fictional book it gets tiring to read about. There are nuanced people out there, or even homophobic people that *hide* their bigotry better. In general, it was written with a heavy hand. Second— every woman is trash other than Danica. This is particularly evident with River. Yes, I understand this is a mafia story, it still reeks of internalized sexism on the part of the author. Thirdly— wtf is up with the blood donation scene??? Danica gets injured and then Victor (one of the MMC) gives her blood WITHOUT verifying a blood type match?! Also in the same scene slut shames people with HIV?? Sorry, nope. DNF. He went from unhinged mafia boss to straight up idiot in 2 sentences.

WOW this book was amazing! I have been seeing a lot of recommendations for this book and let me tell you I was not disappointed! This book was AMAZING! It was dark, raw and full of steam!

I loved the characters, they were all unique and amazing, it was truly beautiful to see so much depth to each of the main characters. I loved the relationships I’ve this story it was attentive but also dark and raw full of need and want! I throughly loved the all the sex scenes, they were detailed and erotic, I was surprised with how much I enjoyed it!

The storyline is unique! I’ve read a few mafia RH books but not one where the main character was an undercover cop not only that but a girl disguised as a man! It was amazing and refreshing! The build up in this story had me on edge and full of apprehension! I couldn’t put the book down even if I wanted to! And OMG the CHEMISTRY was phenomenal and unstoppable, each look and touch had me holding my breath in anticipation!

This book was amazing and I need the next book to this series I’m excited to find out what happens next!

I'll admit it... I have a soft spot for romances where the heroine has to pretend to be a man for a time. It makes it all the sweeter when the men stand by her when they learn the truth.

In this case, our heroine is an undercover police officer infiltrating the Russian mafia and finds herself developing feelings for the boss and some of his closest men. Obviously fuzzy feelings start to get in the way of her mission and she questions everything she thought she knew about her loyalties.

There are some pretty dark themes in this (attempted rape, violence, torture etc. y'know... mafia stuff) but it's not overwhelmingly angsty despite that, plus there's a lot of delicious sexual tension throughout the book which culminates in some hot scenes later on.

Couldn’t put it down!

This is the first book I read from Ivy Clyde. Let me tell you I am reading all her books because she has me hooked.
This book drew me in from the starts and it continued to get interesting throughout. Danica is faced with a tough assignment that makes her change her knife completely and even question herself everyday.

I loved how Clyde portrayed Danica as a strong woman because she questioned the things she had to do. Every step she took she questioned it and fought with herself. To the point of being physically ill. She is also a selfless person which showed throughout the book.

Warning this book is dark organized crime with m/m scenes.

So unpredictable, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. And let’s not mention about the sexy scenes... HOT HOT HOT. honestly there were a few moments that Danny annoyed me, especially her lack of faith in herself, but that was all redeemed. I can already tell she is gonna be one badass chicka.

This book was surprisingly good! When I saw it had more than 500 pages, I was like "Damn..this is going to take forever to finish". But I feel like the story was so fast paced that I could keep reading it without a break.

The story is about Danica who's a police officer working in the Drugs and Narcotics Division. She's primarily doing desk jobs and suddenly she's thrusted into being a secret agent by infiltrating the Sokolov gang. She's trained for 3 months, not just physically in terms of combat and shooting but she's also trained to act like a man since it wouldn't be possible for a woman to join the gang.

Now that part sounds a bit far fledged..like to what extent can you hide the fact that you're actually a woman? But, Danica or later Danny makes sure to wear loose clothes and bind her breasts tightly to her body. She apparently has the added advantage of passing as a man because of her short and slim stature.

She's immediately noticed by the up and coming Heir of the Sokolov gang, Victor, and he chooses to put Danny right by his side. Now the added confusion comes in when Victor, who's actually gay, is physically attracted to Danny. The rest of the story follows how Danny is part of the gang and how she's trying to hide her true identity from Victor.

So one thing I found frustrating about Victor was his need to beat the innocence out of Danny. Sure he didn't abuse her in any way..but he forced her to committ horrendous acts to traitors and man were those scenes SICK!! Like I actually felt bad for Danny because she's attracted to Victor but can also not refuse his commands. At the same time she has her own morals since she's a police officer and this brings in her own confusion as to who does she even want to support..the police background she's coming from or her newly formed duty to the Sokolov gang?

The writing was great and the story enjoyable to read. I'm looking forward to continue with this series. It's crazy how I started reading this same book last year, but put it down after barely completing the first chapter! I'm glad I came back to finish it!

[Contains muy spoilers] I like the concept of this book. The idea of a female going undercover as a male is definitely something I enjoy. However, I noticed some aspects of this story being rushed while other parts were not. The 'feelings' were pretty much instant attraction and that is one of those things I'm not always fond of.

My biggest issue with this book is how so much time was spent telling us how the main guy is gay. Hella gay. Been gay since school days...like so much emphasis that he is 100% into the D and nothing else. Yet the instant he finds out the FMC is not a guy and is a girl...he doesn't care. What? I understand gender/sexuality/etc is fluid but how much emphasis was placed on him being check-in gay on the Kinsey scale would tell me that he'd have had a moment where he'd need to stop and re-evaluate the situation.

The second thing that bugged me is in relation to the first thing. The contradiction. We're given some half-assed reason as to why fmc's gender ultimately didn't matter to then wipe away the main guys male preferences. We're told that the main guy liked the girl regardless of her gender because she wasn't a typical 'weak female'. That leads me to believe he likes men because they are seen as stronger and less flighty (misogynist but w/e). Yet his male lover, River, is....weak AF. Literally, a twinky-flaming-effeminate bottom......so how is it Victor likes the girl because she's strong yet likes River even though he's not strong at all?

I honestly think that some background into what exactly it is that Victor finds attractive would have cleared this up because honestly in this book he looks like a contradicting, misogynist asshole. If I ignore these major downfalls I'm able to enjoy the story a bit more as I'm really interested in seeing how the FMC navigates being in the mafia and a cop, and that's the only reason I'm going to continue this series.

Unique

Perhaps it's a little farfetched, but that's the beauty in storytelling: anything is possible.

Danica is a young police officer who's only been with the force for a year. She's mostly a desk jockey, though; her strength lying in research, especially in the criminal underworld in NYC. One day she's dragged into the Chief's office and given a terrifying assignment. The Sokolov Crime family is recruiting young blood into their ranks and they want Danica to be their operative. The only trouble is that Danica is a woman...but actually no problem at all, "You'll go undercover disguised as a man."

Ok, bestie.

Though I sort of laughed at the premise, I've devoured the book. Danica, now Danny, catches the attention of Vincent Sokolov, the heir apparent, and they become close. Danny is the very thing thing Vincent is attracted to: young, pretty, male. Plus, Vincent's lover, River, is into Danny, too. But, what happens if they discover Danny is actually Danica?

There's a lot of tension and violence, but Danny is so protective of both Vincent and River (and cousin Alexei). She fits an alpha masculine role in every sense. Becoming Danny awakens a confidence in her that she's never known. And they all feel so protected by her. So, though I was a bit hesitant to read this, I've found it quite intriguing. Despite it being a little unrealistic, it's great storytelling blurring gender lines and I love that. Time for book 2.

Now That's A Story!

OMG!!!! WOWED! Standing Ovation.... Bravo Ivy Clyde! This was a really good book... I found some serious book treasure with this one... I loved everything about this book...

So get this guys... Has anyone out there reading this review ever saw the movie called Victor/Victoria? It was one of my favorite childhood movies ( don't give too much (eye roll) yeah I know it was a bit racy but I loved the music okay?!).. Anyway, it was released in 1982 and it starred Julie Andrews (and some other famous people). This book was something like that but with a twist and on the rocks not shaken but stirred... Lol!

Anyway, guys I so loved the crime mafia of this story, and the reverse harm, with some sexy m\m, mmf loving, and the action of fighting and killing.. Oh man this book kept me captivated from the beginning to the very freaking end!

THIS IS A MUST READ PEOPLE!

I can't wait to jump into book 2 of this series.. I will give you no more of a review because I've already told you to read the damn book! Now stop procrastinating and read it! It's free for KU subscribers...

Guilty Pleasure Checklist:
Reverse Harem ✓
Policeman disguised as a man ✓
Mafia ✓
Violence ✓
Hot character ✓
Times when you think "oh s*!" ✓
MM / MMF / MF ✓ (literally for all tastes)
Countless things that can go wrong

The Heir is an unpredictable romance, but also very predictable, you know?
Danny is a police officer who is sent to infiltrate the Sokolov mob dome and bring down the empire from the inside out. She is disguised as a very young boy and soon catches the eye of the heir Victor who is assembling a new circle of men he can trust.
Victor is openly gay and after a few events he becomes interested in Danny.

A lot of things happen and the story just gets more and more complicated. The violence scenes are really good, without too much information but with enough to leave that delicious uncomfortable feeling (is it wrong to say that?)
And the hot scenes? I don't even know what to say about them.

Last, but not least: River is by far the character I like the most, I want to pick him up, hug him and give him a little ice cream to make him happy.

Too bad I felt the need to DNF after no more than 6 chapters. In those chapters there was more tell than show, Danica is portrait as weak, even when in training, but ones standing against two tugs she wipes the floor with them like a hard ass criminal. She also doesn’t say or do anything about Boris’ touches, while I think a tough guy, even a tribute would definitely have something to say. Then Victor gets a chapter, the ‘tough guy’ Heir of the Sokolov Mafia Clan, yet he’s portrait as a guy who feels submissive to his dad and cousin. In the meeting he SMILES at the guy who’s apparently going to die (not smirk, not grin, no smile) and he isn’t listening (and this even feels more like a CEO novel to me at that moment) because he’s bored, then he exclaims YES! like some highscooler when seeing Danica take those dudes down.

I just … i can’t. It feels inconsistent and it has already made my eyes roll numerous times in those 6 chapters. I did like the idea and concept of the female undercover cop!

I honestly just couldn't finish this book sadly. I wanted to so bad the plot sounded so fascinating but there was too many things happening that I just couldn't read along with. I understand that the main love interest is this big gangster and it is a dark romance, however that doesn't mean he is granted no common human decency towards the MC. He came all over her face while she was drugged with the other love interest and of course they saw no issue because "it was hot". Then he gets a rush from her beating some dudes up and decides to rip her shirt and do coke off her, but then forces her to do coke with him despite her numerous declines. I know I could keep reading but I just can't take all of this terrible stuff happening to the MC knowing she's just gonna forgive it and probably end up happily with him.

good start

Definitely a good start to what I hope is a great series. Danika aka Danny is a cop that is given an undercover assignment to infiltrate the Sokolov gang. She’s a total nerd and her computer skills are what made her perfect for the job. She is forced to cut her hair and wear bindings on her chest and dress and act like a man to get inside. Victor takes note of her right away because she is a “beautiful” man. She plays her part well until she starts to fall for Victor. Good thing he returns her feelings. There’s also River, who is essentially Victors plaything/partner, and victors cousin Alexei who is straight but has some kinda feelings for Danny. Danny is trying to figure out how to stay a good cop but not have her identity disclosed to Victor. How long can she keep up the charade?? I’m dying to find out!!

As soon as I read the plot, I had to immediately get my hands on this book!
I’ve never run into a unique plot like this before. A female cop infiltrates a mafia gang disguised as a MALE RECRUIT. She catches the interest of the heir and immediately becomes his Right Hand…and more. Along with that, there’s hints that the heir’s cousin seems to be intrigued with her, too. For my spicy readers, there’s also steamy scenes with MM, MF and MFM.

Although I thought it was a little too quick how Danica (the protagonist) was able to get Victor’s (the Heir) trust and some aspects were a little too far-fetched, I couldn’t put the book down. I’m moving on the Book 2!

FAIR WARNING :
There’s lots of violence, drug use, torture, and attempted rape.

If your looking for something spicy to read this is definitely it! The author is self published so the book does lack that refined finish that books edited by traditional publishing houses have and there are some consistency errors but overall it doesn’t take away from how enjoyable the story is. The main female is kind of annoying in this book but she definitely gets better in the next books and it’s worth it to keep going with book 3 probably being the best of the series. The only thing that really bothered me was having two gay male characters who had no interest in women previously suddenly become interested in the MFC which just took me out of the fantasy I think if one of them had been bi at the very least it could have worked.

small spoilers from the series ahead

I came back to review this book because I figured this review is where it mattered. I was very interested in this storyline and it was a good one. Kept me on my toes always wondering if Danny would be caught. The reason for only 4 stars is all the grammar and spelling mistakes. At one point one of the men in the rh called someone else Danny’s nickname and you could tell it wasn’t meant to be there. The other reason is the ending. Awful ending in my opinion. Yeah victor gets mad but then he’s just over it and it skips years ahead and it just left me very unsatisfied
