Super hot. Also super deep with realistic, grounded, flawed characters. I could feel the characters emotions. I just wished it would've been a little more balanced between Faye's perspective and Nikki. WE get to see Nikki's POV at the start, but then the rest is from Faye's POV and we don't really get to see things from where Nikki's POV is coming from.

I’m so tired…

This was so emotionally jarring for me. The opening of the story with Faye and Nikki was so beautiful. But since I read the synopsis, I knew that beautiful life was going to be turned upside down. I noticed that Nikki’s story had half the chapters than Faye’s. Nikki’s was the set-up and Faye’s was the heartbreak.

I have never read something so heart wrenching in a long time of this magnitude, if ever. When Nikki started on this journey there were two things that were quite glaring, one that the connection was all about screaming orgasms and the second thing I noticed is that Nikki never said she was in love with Angel. She kept confessing lust until that fateful day when she left.

One of those times besides the crude massage bed tryst was when they were in the parking lot in the back of the car and she had to remove her daughters car seat to the trunk. That’s a person that’s lost it. They have more than enough money to be able to go hotels and etc. I know this was happening on lunch breaks, but still. This person is in extreme opposition to the one the story opens up with. When she refused to tell them she knew Angel/Angelique and they had been involved to her father, her wife, or even to her best-friend I knew that was her biggest mistake and was the catalyst to all that followed. It was Nikki’s first known lie and it was huge. It wound up being life changing.

Angelique returned on a mission. And she did not let up. She was psychologically attuned to Nikki. It worked in the past, so why wouldn’t it work 7 years later? Now Nikki has a wife and daughter. Angelique burned right through that as if they didn’t matter one bit. Collateral damage. What Nikki did was so out of character that you know something had to be wrong. The list of monumental wrongs just kept piling on. Even I didn’t know how far she could possibly go. Faye felt the full brunt of that affair and then some. I felt it with her. It was heart crushing.

Faye’s story was just pages and pages and chapters of chapters of mind blowing and mind numbing pain. I don’t know how else to say it. It wasn’t just glossed over. The readers are put through the paces with Faye. I was numb reading it. I was at a loss for all of the things that happened. All the thing Faye had to go through. To know someone that you love did all these things to you.

One thing that gave me hope continually was that Angelique was not just mean, she was brutal for brutalities sake. She kept fighting viciously even after she won. I didn’t understand it at first and then it started to make sense why she was voraciously vicious. She didn’t realize she was the Glenn Close of this relationship she had finally won. She got the girl, got the marriage of her dreams, got the sex, but she didn’t get the “heart.” She realized that that Nikki had actually left that with Faye. Faye wasn’t as far away in the rearview mirror as she thought.

Throughout it all Faye kept saying that she knew Nikki was the one. She knew when she fell in love with her. She knew when she wanted to marry her. She said Nikki was the the love of her life. That’s profound. That can’t be erased so easily. So, it was taking a long time for Faye to move on. She tried. But Nikki was always at front of mind when she shouldn’t be. What Faye had to see, hear, and witness would have broken anyone. It broke her. It really did. But in her heart of hearts, it wanted Nikki. It always would. Nothing came or would come that was greater.

Sandra was an integral part of them getting to reconciliation faster. But she was a damn good friend to both of them. Her role was not easy, but it was so very necessary. What had occurred to these three souls, Faye, Nikki, and Emily would take an act of congress for them to come together again. And Sandra had faith that what they had couldn’t be tossed aside. That there was no Nikki without Faith. They may have worked it out eventually, but I am not sure how when she held those most intimate conversations with both parties.

Gawd, I don’t want to read anything like this again. It was so hard to get through and yet I couldn’t put it down. I needed to know what was happening. I felt like when I wasn’t reading that I was missing what was going on. And the ending surprised me, not the HEA, but Angelique. She caused a tsunami sized rift in this family that there is only one way they could fully recover and not be constantly looking over their shoulders. She was a true and pure psychopath. Her looks got her into places and people lives unawares of the danger she represents or the damage she would leave in its wake. Cheating or not, she was going to break them to get Nikki.

I read a book a day. After this one, I think I may break my streak. This was a lot. My emotions and my brain hurts. Wonderful writing as always by this author. My first book of from her was “A Scarlet Kiss” and then the others. She never disappoints.
