May Jensen has had a rough few months. While protecting her friend Iris from an attack by cougar shifters, she suffered a tremendous head injury that would have killed a human. Plagued by headaches and memory difficulties ever since, the petite wolf shifter can no longer work as a police officer. Left adrift without the job she loves, May struggles to heal and find her new place in the world. She returns to painting, which she has loved since childhood. Unfortunately, she has the eerie habit of unconsciously predicting the future through her art. Not helping matters is that someone seems to be out to get her. Who wants to hurt her and why?
Grizzly shifter Beau Shanley has been infatuated with May ever since the night he helped fight off the cougars who ambushed her. As the daughter of the former alpha wolf and sister of the current one, Beau believes May is destined for a bright future, one that doesn’t include a man who is barely able to keep his beast under control. When he learns of the threats against her, however, he can’t just stand by and watch. Both he and his inner animal are compelled to protect her.
As the two work together to keep May safe, the attempts on her life intensify and an innocent bystander is harmed. Is someone out for revenge, or is this part of a larger plan against the shifters of Grey Lake?
I borrowed Lost Wolf ~ Grey Lake Shifters ~ Book 2 from the Kindle Unlimited Program.
May Jensen becomes a Lost Wolf after she is seriously injured in an attack by three Cougar Shifters while trying to protect her friend and future sister-in-law, Iris. Grizzly shifter Beau Shanley and May meet and do a few things together and quickly discover they are mates. Attacks start on May and Beau and his grizzly bear become very protective.
Someone is trying very hard to hurt May. Clues are gathered, shifters band together to solve the mystery of who is working to hurt the town of Grey Lake, New Hampshire and protect everyone, with some success and help from an unexpected Eagle Shifter. I loved the action and the romance between Beau and May.
This book was just as good as the first, great character and world building at the same time (which can be hard to come by). I can't say much without spoilers, but I am anxiously awaiting the release of the third book and will be ordering a copy to add to my collection as soon as I can.
Does anyone know when book 3 will be coming out? I have been trying to find it but nothing! CRY! This series is pretty good and has many interesting elements I have been enjoying reading it.
This book was very entertaining. It had me laughing one minute and wincing the next. My only complaint was the cliff hanging ending without the assurance of another book to come and finish it.
The depth of the characters was very good. I really got to know the players and their different personalities. Good plot. I can't wait for the next book
This one was good, like the last. Another easy read with few errors, though a little of the repetitive feeling remained. I enjoyed getting to know Beau and May, and this book helped push the overall plot a little further in what exactly Alden is doing.
One thing I'm confused about in this world is the "dominant" aspect. Everyone seems to have a different dominant ranking and almost all the main characters are described as having dominant beasts, except for May who is the one submissive mentioned. I get dominance isn't a black and white issue, there's a ton of gray area, but it comes up all the time in these books and everyone is always dominant and acting weird because the other person is also a dominant.
This series is also different from other shifter books I've read where even when the town is full of mixed shifter races there isn't one main alpha, or an alpha for each group with some kind of town council they all sit on. Heath is the alpha of the wolf pack, but it doesn't say if he's the alpha for just the small number of wolves that have been introduced or if all wolves in the town are in the same pack. The cougars are mentioned as having an alpha, and the grizzly bears mention two elders, but everyone just seems to do their own thing. It isn't a bad thing, it's just different than others I've read and I guess I'm having a bit of a hard time pinning down how it all works. The clearest distinction we got was Tessa going from "I'm the only phoenix alive" to "phoenix pick a territory and don't leave it or go into other territories unless it's a blood relation".
I absolutely adore this series! It hits on some of my favorite things to see in paranormal books. I love that there's a supernatural town that has multiple kinds of people, but it's made better because it's located in New Hampshire. I'm from Maine, so I knew exactly what universities were being talked about. (I love to see some Maine representation! Even if it's not much.) I also love that the series is a companion series that seems to follow one large arch. It makes it all the better to immerse yourself back into the world.
In this particular book, I rather loved following May and Beau. Grizzly bear shifter is apparently a thing that I'm all about! Their romance is so precious and I love his sisters. In the course of this book, we also get to know more about her brother Heath (the current Alpha for the wolves and the police chief). It's really sly how the author has us get to know him more throughout the book, as he seems to be the male in the next book. Sneaky sneaky!
We also get to know more about the bigger situation that's going to tie all the books together. Honestly, I'm really intrigued by the whole thing. While the writing is sometimes a little repetitive (i.e. a paragraph with each sentence starting with "He ____"), the character development and plot wholly make up for it. And yes! The steam too! I love me some spice.
I am absolutely going to consume this entire series, and I'll continue consuming KL King's works in this shared universe.
Spending time with May Jensen while she’s on leave after being injured protecting her sister-in-law from attack, is grizzly Beau Shanley’s fantasy. Before he could only think popular May with the ear of the former and current alpha, would never be interested in him. But he goes or it and is surprised he’s caught May’s interest as well.
The cougars responsible for May’s injury are dead but their packmates aren’t and they don’t hesitate to make mischief. Also, Tessa isn’t the only new and unusual shifter in town, but she finds herself in opposition of her counterpart who’s doing all he can to make the town his or destroy it with the help insidious henchmen and buried so deep the home team can’t find him. Rating: 4.25stars
This is the 2nd in a series. Love that its based on a fictional town in New Hampshire. The idea of the shifters living in a community in an out of they way town is interesting. Well written series of events that keep one interested in finding out what happens next throughout the series. Hints with in one book leads to the next in the series and again continue to keep me engaged and looking forward to the next book. The storyline has love, intrigue and the sense of tragedy on its way to this small town and the inhabitants. Each book keeps you guessing and wondering what is possibly coming next.
SPOILER ALERT!! In the first book Iris came to town With a wolf like dog Everyone and their mother could smell that this wolf/dog was a shifter And everyone can smell that Iris was also a shifter even though she thought she was human but in the second book they couldn't smell what cougars vandalized the hardware store they couldn't smell the wolf that was writing threatening notes to May oh but they recognize his hand writing. Man such a long book for nothing and still no news on why Iris's shifter /dog is stuck.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
No idea how this book got its title. Mae Jensen was never lost. Confused? Yes, disoriented, befuddled? Definitely! But never lost. She lost her home, she lost her job. (Thanks Heath) She felt like she lost the familiar path but was it really the right path to begin with? Did her path did not lead her to Beau her mate! She always knew her mate would be big, strong, and not intimidated by her domineering father and brothers. Little did she expect a grizzly! And no he is not intimidated by anyone. Nor is he overly aggressive. Sweet Beau is just was Mae needs when she is most vulnerable.
Thank you K. L. for a touching 2nd book. May is a sweetheart who has gone through a difficult trauma and its’ after affects. She is able to withstand all that she faces with the help of her newly identified mate, Beau. Beau is strong and supporting and protects May at every turn. Look forward to the continuing story of Grey Lake and the new romance that will develop between Heath and Mac.
Released in September 2020, this is the second book in the Grey Lake Shifters series. There will be a satisfying conclusion to each of the six books in the series.
Each book can be read on its own, but it may be helpful to read prior books. To start at the beginning, please consider Brave Bear (Grey Lake Shifters Book 1).
Please enjoy the unusual inhabitants of Grey Lake, New Hampshire.
I know I suspected that the Doc was Heath's mate or going to be his mate, can't wait for that book. I knew Cal would turn out to be dirty, he switched on May too quickly to be anything but a dirty cop. I loved Beau, big strong beat shifter, brought to his knees by his tiny wolf mate.
May finds her life changing in very unexpected ways. After being badly injured by the cougar shifters she has lost confidence in herself and then to make things worse she starts being threatened. But she’s found her life has changed in positive ways as well.
This is the second book of the Grey Lake Shifters and it is so much fun. This is an exciting book that brings together two different shifter types. The fun thing is that shifters from different species can be mates. Such excitement and beauty is evident in the wonderful words written by this amazing author. On to #3..
The writing in this book is much better than in the first book. The romance also seemed less abrupt. Based on the build-up, I did expect more of a challenge during the ultimate confrontation of the story. It was a little disappointing that the "battle" scene was basically 2 pages, and even that was because it was retold from different perspectives.
I love PNR. This was a very interesting book. This is book two , book one was also good. It is easy to become invested in the characters & the town. I am excited to see where this series is going.
I have never read a book where one person whose name is May is trying to be killed. The shifters of Grey Lake are trying to figure out why another shifter is trying to take over their town.Alot of suspense and fur is flying.
Well written, descriptive... The reader can easily form a kinship with the characters and can't wait to read more! Also not plagued with spelling and grammatical errors like so many books are these days!!!
May is healing after the cougar attack. But finds her mate in Beau grizzley shifter and hardware owner. May is under attack and is finding her new gifts a help to the cause. Another great book in this series.
I really liked this book. The romantic and humorous moments were great. Also, the ongoing mystery in the series makes me want to keep reading. However, I would have liked to have more details on the animal side of the shifters.
Since May’s attack she’s been off. Beau hasn’t checked on her since is was released. May never dreamed of finding her mate and Beau thought that he was to dangerous to have a mate.
May has found her life changed so much after the attack. She's laid off from the police force and is having headaches. Beau steps in to help when she is threatened. Who knew a grizzly and a wolf made good mates?
These books are very long and full of details. It is a well written book full of interesting characters. I still feel a little lost as to why the bad guy is doing what he’s doing. I think the introduction of an eagle shifter is going to be interesting.
