Long time I wanted to read this book, and I bought it and read. I'm glad it was very easy to read. (I read in Lithuanian translation). I knew so much about past. This book could help me when I was going to school. At school I learn NOTHING, but now I understand so much.
I also understood one thing: EVEN DEMONS CAN FEEL LOVE. Yes... No matter what Hitler did to many people, he felt love for some women. Besides in some other book I read that he NEVER killed any human by his hands, because he simply was scared of blood. I perfectly understand why he became so cruel- he simply needed a girl who could love him and do what he wanted her to do. (Yeah.. his strange sexual phatasies). And I myself am just like Hitler... if somebody leaves me- I turn to demon. So I can understand what he felt inside. Yeah, I saw some videos where he talks.. In fact when I get angry and I want to buy expensive book- I start yelling just like Hitler. I can understand why he hated sick people. I do hate them too. I hate bacterias and all stuff.
I really loved this book, it helped me to understand this person better. I knew such facts I couldn't get at school. I cannot judge anything. Everybody has their own reasons to one or other thing. But I think this book can make everybody understand what happens when you abuse other people. Later these abused people turn to your worst nightmares...
As I started reading this, I thought to myself 'read with a pinch of salt', expecting it to be rather salacious and not very credible. But by the time i got to the end, I was hooked, and was reading it intently. I found the parts about Eva Braun the most interesting, especially the last few days of her life in the Bunker. The authors bring vividly to life what life was like in Berlin in those last few days of the war - hellish for all concerned. As for Hitler's sex/love life? I dare say a lot of the more outrageous stuff about him was rumour and lies - not because I think it was unlikely, but that it was most likely said and spread to mock and discredit him. (The one testicle thing being a prime example.) I found the psycho sexual analysis of Hitler tedious after a while, especially when the authors tried to use it as a reason why he did what he did, politically. Not to mention the suggestions of 'if his dad was not so brutal/if so-and-so loved him' etc. These things may have influenced him and helped to shape him, but I doubt the prevention of the death of his niece/lover, for example, would have saved the world from going to war, eventually.
As amazing as I'd hoped it would be. Granted, everyone has heard of Eva Braun but did you know that Hitler's niece lived with him when she was 22 and killed herself because she didn't want to keep doing what he asked of her sexually? Of course, despite the comprehensive bibliography, much of this scholarly work is based upon hearsay, conjecture, and scant physical evidence. But considering both Hitler and Eva were very private people and it was in Hitler's best interest to cover up his deviance (shall we say?), it shouldn't be surprising that what his confidantes could determine from rifling bedsheets and examining furniture generated some mixed results depending on who was investigating him and when. The book doesn't stop at the suicides and cremation of Hitler and Eva but continues further to discuss Russia's Operation Myth (an attempt to argue that Hitler was still alive) and determine the actual fate of the man who married the Fuhrer, Walter Wagner. EXTREMELY fascinating material that is written for the layperson without sounding terribly salacious. If you've ever wondering if a broken heart caused World War II, read this book because you might be right!
I'm giving it four stars because there are definitely some gossip, hearsay, and rumors presented in this book that are presented as fact; which in my opinion are not fact, and completely appear to be false due to the source cited and ridiculous story in and of itself. Other than those few things it is a pretty interesting read to see how women and men, drooled over Hitler and were completely mesmerized by him even though he was not the best looking man out there.
A creepy but fascinating milieu through AH's love life and obsessions. The book also serves as an exploration of the thoughts and habits of AH's somewhat extensive entourage of female admirers. For example, Eva Braun rarely wore the same dress twice and was observed to change clothes by as many as eight times in one day. A bizarre, oddly nightmarish look at der fuhrer that appears to be well researched and carefully documented.
I couldn't tell you if it's full if reliable info or not but it was a gripping read and gives a fascinating insight. The only downside is the lack of Hitlers political side in the book....it's almost easy to forget when reading it.
Daug įdomių detalių, istorijų, padarytas milžiniškas darbas, kad būtų parašyta ši knyga. Gal šiek tiek nepriimtinas rašymo stilius, o gal dėl to kaltas vertimas, originalo neskaičiau. Bet buvo įdomu sužinoti apie Hitlerio gyvenime ryškiausias moteris ir apie jį patį.
