To Love a Tormented Earl

Rate this book
When her father took ill, Emilia Whitmore was left in dire financial straits and with very few prospects to walk down the aisle. Time is running short, and if she doesn't find a suitor soon, her household may not survive. Her life takes an unexpected twist, though, when she suddenly comes across her former employer who was believed to be dead. Even though she knows that a romance with him would be a false hope, she can’t stop daydreaming about his captivating gaze. When he asks for her assistance to unveil a conspiracy that ruined his life, her generous heart compels her to agree. Will Emilia manage to overcome the barriers that go against her happiness? Would destiny hold for her a happy ending?

After faking his own death three years before, Maximilian Emery, the true Earl of Ceastre, has returned to London to reclaim his estate and his name. But before he can do that, he must determine who is involved in the blackmail that prompted him to flee in the first place. When fate brings him together with a woman from his past, soon old feelings begin to resurface. But until he finds out who is hidden behind the evil plot against him, love will remain just a flight of fantasy, no matter how his anxious heart skips a beat everytime she is around. Will Max manage to solve a puzzle that has made his life a living hell? Will his only dream to live by Emilia's side come true?

Despite their strong feelings, Max and Emilia‘s union seems impossible, as they come from two spheres of society not accustomed to mingling. To make matters worse, when Emilia discovers the reason for Max’s exile, she feels that everything is crashing down. Will the star-crossed lovers find a way through the obstacles that insist to keep them apart or will they accept a future without hope of true love?

⚖️⚖️ONE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY⚖️⚖️
Brilliant! Bridget serves up another delightfully composed piece of perfection with this compelling treat, weaving a cocoon around you so intricately and precise, drawing you deeper into this tangled web until everything else ceases to exist, presenting one mind-blowing masterpiece. Observing the intimidating struggles and hard fought triumphs, noting the deadly twists and startling turns, testing our characters in ways they could have never envisioned. Tangled in a vicious plot of daring drama, unfolding revelations, captivating intrigue, intense encounters, damning blackmail, escalating danger, spiraling suspense and unnerving situations, negotiating through the cunning manipulations of sinister deeds and heinous intent, putting our characters through their paces, blasting this baby to life spectacularly. The magnetism, attraction and chemistry collides with such intensity and ardor, drawing our characters deeper, exposing profound emotions and a deep bond, binding them to one another beautifully. The characters, banter, interactions and charged atmosphere along with relatable qualities and individual traits, blend and flow, transforming into genuine charismatic personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and graphic descriptions creating an elaborate backdrop that feels as though you were transported to ground zero with them. Fantastic job Bridget, thanks for sharing this amazing bad boy with us.

Emilia, near destitution with caring for her very ill father, barely makes enough money selling her musical compositions to a composer who claims them as his own. In her travels, she comes across a past infatuation who everyone believed died while away. Max, next in line following his father's demise, returned to reclaim his title and fortunes from his uncle but first had to unlock the mystery of who was behind the rumors to destroy his reputation. When recognizing one another, Max takes a chance that Emilia will help him solve the mystery. The story was extremely interesting, true to the language and culture of the times. Though, it ended rather abruptly with reference to the author's site for the happily ever after epilogue. Most frustrating was the format which was double-spaced between paragraphs. This slows a fast reader down considerably which is annoying to many. Otherwise, it is a sweet and clean Regency mystery romance.

A delightful and enticing romp through Regency England

Another intriguing tale by Bridget Barton that will keep the reader engaged from start to finish! The main characters, Max and Emilia were so awesome and well developed, but the other characters added such levels of diversity starting from servants through royalty. There was one caper after another happening throughout the book. Add in the Extended Epilogue and you have a very fulfilling and tidy conclusion to this newest story.

I received an ARC copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest review with my own personal opinions.

The help of his lady

Good story, but long, I found myself wanting to get through it, to see how the ending was.
Max was presumed dead, 3 years ago, when Amalia saw the man she knew it was Max. When finily they meet. Max explained what had made him flee. When the truth is out, all his made right. And Max title is rightfully restored, he professed his love for Amalia.

I DNF this book. It felt like the writer was trying too hard to use old English. I can't quite put my finger on how to say this, but the closest I can come to describing this is that the writer was trying too hard to sound polished or regal. It just didn't sound right; kind of like they were trying too hard.

It was good

Such a convoluted scandal and there were a lot of heartaches. It was nice but it just seemed a little rushed. Overall, I liked the storyline though. The end was a little anti-climactic and rushed for me.

Well plotted, wonderful, intelligent, clean romance with no ridiculous misunderstandings. Max and Emilia have a slow burn relationship that makes sense and is most enjoyable. Very entertaining story!

Just didn't like the story.

I felt the writing style was juvenile. Twas, drawn out and the attempt to Harold English failed miserably. I couldn't finish this one.

I liked how Max and Emilia each are working hard to make things right and how they care about the people around them. Both were well written as were the secondary characters.
