Hunters and Reapers. Both are in danger. Something dangerous is coming back.

Maddi may have stopped one traitor, but there's another one out there. This one is serious.

Stopping the vampires wasn't the end of it, Hunters are still dying. Every Hunter on Earth is coming to the city to stop it, which puts Maddi in even more danger. The Reapers aren't equipped to stop something that can kill five Hunters at a time. Vampires she could handle, but Maddi was never prepared for this.

When the Hunters start blaming Maddi for the Hunters dying, she's trapped in a corner. Save the Hunters again, or let the creatures that came back from extinction destroy the world.

It's difficult for her to do anything when everyone is trying to kill her. Including one of the Reapers.

The Shadow Reapers Trilogy continues with Returned! The Hunter turned Reaper has another mystery to solve and more evil to put down. Don't miss out, click Buy It Now or read for free with Kindle Unlimited!

This is book two of the Shadow Reapers series and continues to follow former Hunter Maddi, now she has joined the new group calling themselves Shadow Reapers and with her estranged father Ezra as their leader. He has been determined to recruit more to their group and to build their numbers with more vampires, shifters, mages and even humans. In the first book, Maddi and some of the others, had managed to stop two traitors from within their small number, but there was still another traitor to be found within. Maddi has been left on training duties with all the new recruits, by her father, with strict instructions not to go out and try to kill anymore killers. The number of Hunters has increased in the city, at first thought to be in reaction to a large vampire nest in town, but Maddi and the Shadow Reapers had already taken it out. Matt, her former partner as Hunter, and now also out of the organization due to being turned into a vampire, still has a few Hunters he can speak to who don’t know he has been turned yet.

What the group find out from these Hunters, is that there was something out there targeting Hunters which stopped, but now there is something else out there targeting Hunters again. Torn may have created a large number of vampires, but now Maddi, Asher and Gen are looking into the problem and try to find the grimoire they believe Torn had used to learn about the ritual needed to create new supernatural beings. What the remaining traitor will make next, with the knowledge gained from this ancient grimoire, is worrying for both Hunters and Reapers. But the rumour has been put out there that Maddi has the grimoire, presumably stolen from the Hunter enclave, and that she is responsible for whatever is killing Hunters! There is a huge target on her back and the city is now being flooded with Hunters from all over the world and even their leader, her own mother who tried to kill her, have left their enclaves all over the world to create a new Sanctum in the San Francisco. Something unheard of and the numbers being mentioned are well over five hundred so far. All for her!

A foe much harder to kill than the enhanced shifters Torn created, have been made by the remaining traitor in the Reapers camp. Maddi wants to help stop the latest creatures to have been created, but may have to end up saving the lives of Hunters, even as they try to blame her for the theft of the first ever grimoire and for creating the new creatures. Large numbers of people are being killed and Hunters are being targeted primarily. Maddi may not have made very many friends within the Reapers and her father and Magnus are much more powerful mages, compared to her, but she won’t ask either of them to help teach her more magic. Gen, the computer whizz of the group, is a fantastic character, aiding Maddi, Matt, Asher and the others to find where to look and with spells and magic to help take down their foes. A shocking conclusion, as the final traitor reveals themselves and Maddi’s small group end up in danger of a different kind and possible death sentences for them all. A cracking and explosive second book, with a strong female lead who doesn’t put up with any sort of guff, from anyone, no matter who they are! Still more to come in the next book in the series and I can’t wait to read it! I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

“Returned” the second book in the “Shadow Reapers Trilogy” by Jack Knight featuring Maddi Wessen, a Hunter trained to kill supernaturals, that has somehow come full-circle and become the hunted in a world where supernaturals fall into a single category: the enemy. By now Maddie knows that not everything is as perfectly B&W as she has trained to believe, after being on the other side of the fence, she has gained new perspectives. The danger, however, isn’t over, one traitor has been found, but another has taken his place. The Hunters keep on dying in the city, and with more and more Hunters joining the hunt, Maddi has become a target once more, and this time the Reapers are out of solutions.

Jack Knight has crafted a captivating and pleasing urban fantasy verse, realistic and highly interesting. The FMC Maddie is a relatable, independent, witty and somehow reluctant heroine, that keeps on saving the day, because honestly, it must be done, no other reasons need. Her interaction with the secondary characters on both sides of the conflict (Hunters/Reapers) are credible and enjoyable. The story is fast-paced, entertaining, easy to read and (just as its predecessor) a veritable page-turner. Already looking forward to the third book in the trilogy!

🐲🐲ONE BOOT STOMPING RIDE🐲🐲
Slaying dragons! Jack hit the ground running with this tough as nails 100% on point realism, keeping you riveted on a razors edge and frozen to your seat, launching this jewel to a whole new level. Chicanery runs rampant and treachery is rife, maneuvering through the daring drama, perilous intrigue, underlying threats, escalating danger, spiraling suspense and intense situations ensue in epic proportions, propelling this baby to life brilliantly. Redefined limitations and unbound restrictions are amplified and expanded, drawing deep for every ounce of strength in a fierce surge of self preservation, propelling onward with such intensity and vigor, wrapping this baby up sleek shiny and tight. The characters, banter, dialogue, interactions and charged atmosphere along with relatable qualities and individual traits, blend and flow adding depth and diversity, transforming into outstanding personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and graphic descriptions creating an elaborate backdrop that feels as though you were transported to ground zero with them. Remarkable job Jack, thanks for sharing this amazing thrill with us.

Someone is making monsters to kill the Hunters and Maddie has to find out who and why before she is killed. All the Hunters are coming to San Francisco including Maddie’s mother. And they blame Maddie for the killings. Gen, Asher, Matt and Magnus are busy again. The story is getting more interesting, we find out Maddie is more than she appears. Lots of secrets, grimoires and dragons. I would recommend this book.

Book 1 was good and this one is better as Maddie starts to grow into herself and her new role with the reapers. Of course danger pops it ugly head again as Hunters are still dying and Maddie and the rest of the Reapers gang must solve the mystery of who, what and why. It was entertaining and a blast to read to see what Maddie and her crew must face this time with a traitor running around. Danger and magic make a great story. And trying to figure out what is going on and what else is secretly happening.

Maddi as moved out of her old apartment and into the Reapers headquarters. She is just settling in when they find that someone (the one Torn spoke about and apparently one of the Reapers) is creating dragons and sending them after Hunters to wipe them out. Grudgingly her and a couple of closest associates meet with a Hunter to try and sort things out. Things don't go to plan. They do, however, work out who the traitor is, but taking them down isn't going to be easy - if not impossible.

Maddi and the other Reapers have been on a serious recruiting kick for her father. He wants to amp up their numbers for the coming fight with the Hunters. Unbeknownst to her and the others, he has much more on the agenda. This second book in the series starts where the first left off.

Maddi's journey continues in this action packed, magical thrill ride. The author does a fantastic job advancing the story but leaving the reader wanting more. Maddi is a great lead - she is just trying to do the right thing but she is stubborn, strong willed and sassy. I love seeing her growth through the series. I look forward to seeing where the author takes us next.

This is a slow paced story in the beginning but it soon picks up the pace. The story is filled with magic and spells and hunters and reapers. The excitement builds and the action begins. This was one dynamite book.

I really liked this story, but I'm having some serious issues with Maddi's attitude. She can be a great character but her attitude just sucks! I really like the other characters and the storyline is fun
