Author of steamy contemporary and paranormal romance books, Stella Brie lives outside of Nashville, TN, with her husband and golden retriever, Bailey. After her husband challenged her to write a paragraph, she wrote a book! Ideas are pestering her night and day now. She's currently in her writing cave, but when not writing, you can find her reading, boxing, traveling and all the other good things in life.
This story had potential but the writer needs to do a little research before committing an entire book around something like paraplegia. I mead did the writer research it at all? I’m paraplegic and just couldn’t get past this. First let’s discuss Collin. She first mentions their sex life before we are told he’s paraplegic. She has all these doubts about sex because she would perform oral on Collin and he would be non responsive. Well according to Kate, who is a doctor, he is paraplegic and it affects his hands so he can no longer be a surgeon. First of all, if that is the case the he would be considered quadriplegic. Most cases of quadriplegia the person has no feeling below their injury level. So Collin is paraplegic (maybe), depressed, angry and can’t feel. Of course he’s not going to respond to her sexually. His body can respond to stimulus but it doesn’t mean he can feel it. Him moaning would be about like a woman faking her orgasm. If she wanted to please him in bed she should have concentrated on the parts of his body that he could feel otherwise why bother. Forget his penis. All she is going to do by performing oral is make him realize what he lost.
Now for Thayer. He was in a coma for 6 months. But the doctors didn’t realize he had swelling around his spinal cord until he woke up? When he had his accident they would have stabilized him, done CAT scans, seen the problem and would not have waited to treat him until he woke. With a spinal cord injury IMMEDIATE treatment is required. How did he not need inpatient rehab after waking? He would’ve needed to build up the strength in his muscles. Learned how to function in a chair - every thing from dressing to transferring, and teaching him how to get up curbs, they would’ve taught him how to get in a car and even how to drive.
On top of the implausible paraplegia storyline there were also a lot of loose threads. Why did Brittany hate Kate on sight? I thought maybe she had a crush on one of the guys, but we later found out she was engaged. What happened with Courtney? Lowell tells Lev he needs to watch out for her because she’s trouble and she tries to get Kate to think she has a relationship with Lev while watching Lev hit on Kate. But then she disappeared. Did Lev transfer her to another restaurant like Lowell suggested? Did Lev talk to her? Fire her? What’s the deal with the creepy wine dealer rubbing all over Kate and why didn’t Lev do more than glare at him and point out another woman he could go creep on (yuck).
I think if her background was changed and we took away the multiple love interests thus would’ve been a better book. Don’t get me wrong I love reverse harem books but this one just didn’t work for me. It was too rushed. Feelings were forced. I just didn’t feel it.
The story in itself was good, I really liked it and could've loved it. But the writing wasn't to my liking. Small, unimportant things were described in small detail while the heart of the matter was glossed over. And because of this I feel that I didn't really get to know the Heroine or the Heroes. Which is a bit of a disappointment.
But my main problem with this book was the ending. It just stops. Bam! I could call it a "happy end for this very moment". There are so many questions unanswered, an entire relationship glossed over and the future is uncertain. Really hoped for something different.
As I am sure a lot of you do, I always check on the New Releases and I stumbled upon this book. When I read the blurb, I was hooked. I needed to read this. I am so glad I did.
Our female lead Kate Michaels has been through a lot in the last few years. I do not want to get into it much because it really adds to the story. There is a trigger warning in there for an abusive past so beware on that. To me it did not go into to too much detail on it so if that helps. She gets a chance to step in for a doctor that had been hurt to help with his practice. There she meets four men. She has a chance at happiness if only she will open up to it. Not to mention the guys may have some issues to handle on their own.
All I know is that I could not put down my kindle on this one. I loved Kate as a character, I connected with her right off the bat. The guys Lev, Shaw, Lowell and Thayer each are just what Kate needs to heal if only she could open up to a relationship that is maybe not on the norm. Watching their relationship blossom, and the healing love that happens was so satisfying. I cannot wait to see what this author comes up with now.
Dr. Kate Michaels lives day by day as a traveling doctor moving on each time her past catches up to her. An assignment in small-town Montana is where her future is found. There she meets four men who each perfectly fit a piece of her. They are also among the only people who can understand how to put her broken pieces back together again.
As a first-time author, this is a solid book. Kate is a strong female lead. Her past trauma, PTSD, and relationship issues make for a compelling character. The men all being former military special ops is a good angle since their time behind enemy lines created a special bond. The way their experiences shaped them individually into the men they are today is all believable. However, their characters needed more depth. We knew Lev best. I have no complaints here other than I wanted more. Lowell we mostly knew as an author. He came off as a little creepy at times as well. Shaw was stubborn and distant, and Thayer was mostly unlikable. They both then flipped and came around too quickly. The relationships needed more. The sex was there, the intimacy wasn't. Saying I love doesn't isn't enough to make us feel the love. It seemed with the first poly-relationship Shaw and Thayer loved Nessa and the other guys joined in. This time it seemed Lev and Lowell were the instigators and the other two followed their brothers. I really only truly believed Lev and Kate. Finally, why would the men all be too busy to see her for a week at a time, especially Lev with his bar down the street? New love is selfish about time. The side characters were all names except for Sarah.
The book could have used a little more research and a strong beta team. A rural town of 24,000 with one doctor is unrealistic. A quick Google search showed Montana has 72 PCPs (205 total) for every 100,000 people. That means the area should have around 18 doctors, not one. Even though this town is "rural" it is a boutique town. There's no way they would have wonderful restaurants, clubs, and stores without having the basics including quality medical providers. Kate suffered a broken arm yet it wasn't mentioned in her fun-time activities. Thayer came back to practice medicine remarkably quickly after being in a coma and still early in rehab. Was he even cleared? Why was Brittany rude and possessive when Kate first arrived? She seemed interested in Lev but she was engaged? What happened to Courtney? She disappeared, was she transferred? Collin was said to have become abusive and that he cheated on her. Yet later on it was revealed he was a paraplegic. Where was he meeting new women? Women, who want an angry man who has given up on life? He wasn't working, he quit rehab. Not saying it wasn't possible, but it does seem unlikely. She says he wasn't attracted to her anymore. Was he even able to perform after the trauma?
I realize it sounds like I am nitpicking. I am. This author has real potential. Now she needs a team to push her to reach it.
I enjoyed another book of Stella’s 4.5 stars - What a versatile author, I just finished book 2 of her pnr rh and straight into this one which is a contemporary rh, which is set in Montana with a strong fmc who has been to hell and back and a mixture of very different men in the Harem. I bonded with Kate who is a doctor and all the men who have each have their own bedroom flavours and I enjoyed all their different personalities could possibly have been split into a 2 book series as seemed a bit rushed at times but well worth a read
I adored this book - the heroine is slightly older than your usual RH heroine and an experienced doctor taking over a town practice temporarily while the usual doctor recovers from an injury. She suffers from PTSD after a traumatic experience in a previous hospital she worked at and is just trying to keep on keeping on, not looking for any romance but the group of ex-military hotties she has to work for are impossible to ignore.
Enough about plot though... this book has sweetness, angst, bondage, a bit more angst and a lot of genuine affection between people who struggle to deal with emotions.
I give this book 4.5 stars, but rounding it up because I can't bear to go down to 4 stars. The only thing standing between this book and a perfect rating is the ending - the final member of the harem clicking into place didn't really work for me, it felt rushed and untrue to the rest of the book which had perfect pacing and reasoning up until the last 90%.
I liked the story but felt that the dialogue was stilted. I kept thinking that real people wouldn't talk that way. I was a bit surprised that Kate would be considered a liability as an oncologist after what happened. It's not like she made a misdiagnosis or was negligent, or prescribed the wrong medication. As someone with several family members in the medical field, I know that a medication causing a little-known side effect does happen on occasion, and that doesn't necessarily show that the doctor made a mistake or doesn't know his/her stuff.
I liked how Kate would openly discuss how she felt with Lev and Lowell. She was open about her feelings and she didn't want to lead either of them on or make either of them feel like she was 'cheating' on them or anything like that. I liked that the men are already tight, since they've been on missions together in the army. They had even shared a woman before. I was prepared for OW drama, since at the beginning Brittany, who works at the clinic, is rude to Kate and possessive over Lev; not only that, Lev's bar manager obviously had her eye on him and Lowell even told him to deal with her before she become a problem; plus, Lowell's ex was making the evil eye at Kate when they went to the club to dance. But no, none of the women tried to throw a wrench in the works; in fact, later we find out that Brittany is engaged to be married. We never know what happens to the bar manager -- was she transferred to another restaurant, as Lowell suggested?
Lev and Lowell definitely have different personalities and even different preferences when it comes to sex, but I couldn't really understand Lowell because he seems like a multiple personality kinda guy. He's supposed to be living in his own world, getting lost in his writing and even forgetting to eat, yet throughout the story, he didn't seem to be busy writing anything. He was so stern and withdrawn or distant at times, then he goes and does a public reading and signing as an author... it just didn't seem to match his character. Shaw was even harder to get a grip on, because he spent a lot of time pushing Kate away and being rude to her, so I didn't feel I really knew what made him tick. Thayer provides representation as a character in a wheelchair, although he is in rehab and probably will walk again soon. He also is suspicious of Kate in the beginning, thinking that she might be a gold digger... which, if you ask me, is far-fetched, especially since she inherited money from her late husband. (What DID she use his money for? It's never revealed). While Thayer's abrupt turnaround is understandable once he hears her story, I couldn't understand what attracted him to her. Was it just pity because his mother had also experienced abuse? Or he was just jealous because he saw his brothers being affectionate and lovey-dovey with her, and felt like the odd one out?
I felt like I could understand how Lev and Lowell fell for Kate. Lowell, in particular, seemed to have a lot in common with her, in terms of things to talk about and personal preferences. But I didn't understand how Shaw and Thayer fell for her. Thayer respects her professionally but that isn't really enough to make a man fall for a woman. The "I love you"s came too fast for me and were not very believable.
General premise: smart, accomplished doctor moves to Midwest for a chance at a new life, meeting handsome locals and all kinds of shenanigans ensuing from there. This sounded like the perfect palate cleanser after all of the fantasy and urban fantasy I usually read, a fun vacation into a world that most definitely feels like a pilot that Netflix would have women (and I'm sure some men) flocking to.
I still feel that way after I read it, but there are a lot of roadblocks for me that had more of my nit-picky editing brain starting to speak louder than my reader voice.
The characters are all flawed, so our FMC isn't wrong for them because she has her own baggage to deal with and issues to overcome. In fact, the darkness that's happened in her life has shaped who she is now, molding some of the pieces of her into being what our men need to help complete them too, so there's some great mutual attraction and mutual need built, which I liked. The dynamic doesn't feel unbalanced, giving any one person too much power in the relationship.
There are some steamy moments, both one on one and with multiple partners, and we've got some toys and some dom tendencies that are sure to make many a reader *very* excited. Brie is not lacking in giving some variety so that all different readers and preferences will be fulfilled.
However, there are some messy pieces and some stylistic things that I just can't ignore. There are a few little continuity "oops" like a broken arm that seems to get disregarded much too quickly, which is a little annoying but not the end of the world, and I think the writing style just needs some more support in place. A few talented beta readers or an editor could help smooth this out into something really great.
There's a lot of "telling"- including summarizing the contents of conversations- I asked, he answered, she said, I said- without us seeing any of the dialogue, which is one thing that makes my attention stray because it takes me out of the story. it also felt like some of the moments with the characters could be smoothed out and made a bit more natural- nicknames coming on out of nowhere or a bit too fast, a super analytical character who almost feels to me like he could be on the spectrum (which is NOT a bad thing), but his mannerisms and style of speech and general interaction just make me sort of quizzically tilt my head to the side because while I liked him, I felt like there wasn't strong enough UNDERSTANDING for him- how he picked up his mannerisms, why he speaks or reacts in the way he does.
Overall, this won't be a book I'm rereading, but I don't regret giving it a go. In fact, if it had some "renovations" done, I would be totally fine with rereading it to see what it could grow into. I'm not trying to scare anyone away, just giving my honest opinion, and despite my own issues, I think there's a lot here that many a reader will like if they're just a bit less picky than me.
first off this is not an MMFMM it has no M/M interaction which means this book is a MFMMM. secondly I feel like I only really got to know the first two of her men (I won't say who they are you will find out if you reed the book) thirdly the last guy she gets with, they are literally only an item on page 298 to the end of the book which is page 305 that's only 7 pages and then the book just ends, she only meets the last guy at about 75% through the book although he is mentioned a handful of times. this book had potential but I felt it should have been a two book series and some things where rushed over and I never felt that inverted in some of the characters including half her harem.
This book came to my attention via a FB recc group and decided to give it a try since I had been on a PNR kick for a bit and this was a contempt RH. I was very happy that I did.
My Salvation is the story of Kate, a traveling doctor who gets assigned to a clinic needing a temporary replacement in Montana. Kate is running from a mistake and tragedy that changed her life in devasting ways. She is looking for peace and finds it in the least likely place.
All of the characters are vividly written with such distinct personalities that they each stand out in different ways. Each of the male leads, Shaw, Lev, and Lowell are so solid and offer Kate a different aspect of healing that why choose become how could you possibly choose.
There is a perfect balance between character interaction, action, and steam scenes making for a read that cannot be put down until the book is finished.
It was a good read for the most part. It was just a little off, not a reread for me. I found the continuous "my dear" endearment from Lowell a little weird and it came across with a dirty grandpa vibe. It skipped over what could have been key relationship forming areas and for conversations. It was like reading an overview of how their relationship formed with a little extra detail. It left a lot of stuff out and there are some unexplained points which is frustrating. I think that the author should make an outline and work from there. I would have preferred a longer book if it was more clearly written and didn't feel so pasted together. I didn't feel this book. I've read some that have made me laugh, cry, smile, and get emotionally invested in the characters- this was not one of them. It was a good idea for a story and had tons of potential but it didn't quite reach the mark.
Not usually one for contemporary I was hesitant but I truly enjoyed this book. The FMC was damaged but strong enough to stand on her two feet with each of her men complementing her instead of supporting her. The overall story was well written though there were some slight issues with things :like her breaking her arm but then it’s just ignored after that. A few smelling issues and grammatical errors but not enough that it broke me out of the story. I am especially impressed to learn this was the authors first book. Good for you!! I think with time this author will only get better. My only huge issue was it felt like it cut off at the end. Another chapter or two and it would have felt more resolved but then again maybe that just means there’s room for a novella/extended epilogue book later on? Dunno. I’ll be keeping a lookout for future works for this author!!
Not sure if this should have been a series, or stretched out completely to make sense. The relationships between all these individuals was incredibly forced and I just didn't feel an ounce of real chemistry with these ppl. It was like a love at first site, and everything was just coming together but without the glue? We even add another lover/brother late who's causes chaos in the group for seriously unrealistic reasons. The book had a lot of spicy s3x with interesting sexual encounters, but I found myself skipping them trying to understand the story/storyline better. The book in fact doesn't get any better and ends up leaving you extremely unsatisfied. I also want to ask what was up with the forced drama in this book with other women? and why on earth did this book end like that?
I loved this author’s other book, but since there wasn’t a sequel to it yet I tried this one. I think the title of this post says it all. If you like the Virgin River books or tv series and you like reverse harems then you will probably like this. I would honestly rate a 3.5 if I could because it was pleasant and easy to read, but there wasn’t really a lot of plot; basically meet new people and build the harem. There are a lot of detailed sex scenes so if you’re into that you will probably like this book. I typically just pass right over them and I found myself skipping A LOT towards the end of the book. I can’t tell if there will be a sequel, but I would probably read it if one comes out.
Aw lovely romance, all the feels! I do feel a bit cheated by the relationship with Thayler it was completely skimmed over like he was just falling in line with the others. I agree with some of the other reviews it definitely felt like the momentum and quality kind of tailored off at the end to wrap the story up too quickly. We also didn't really delve into the guys characters if was completely focused on the fmc even though I completely loved how her story was told I wish we could have some more moments where the guys were vulnerable. All in all a wonderful romance and just what I was looking for.
So I liked the overall story. I thought the pacing and development of Lev and Lowell was perfect. But then Shaw happened way too fast, and he didn’t do nearly enough groveling, and then to make him have to half grovel again after the confrontation with Thayer? Didn’t like it. And Thayer was way way too fast. And the fact that supposedly he can’t stand women being abused but then that isn’t really taken into account as he tries to win her over? They don’t address is other than the one conversation where it doesn’t seem sincere? And the ending was definitely NOT satisfying. The story was good, execution was lacking.
I loved the characters in this book. The protagonist is a strong-willed woman with a tragic backstory, and as much as it's been done, it works. The RH is well written, in that it gives a plausible reason for them to want to share her and they interact with each other well. What I didn't like about the book was how the characters would often talk to one another. Sometimes it came across as cynical and detached as if they were only talking in a professional capacity. Communication is of course key in a good relationship, but I felt they could have been much more open and expressive.
This is a bit difficult to rate as there were elements that were very good, for instance, the trauma of past experiences that the FMC was struggling to overcome alongside her finding that flair again for experiencing, for living, for opening your heart once again. In contrast, the relationships were not evenly spaced out, T. encounters the FMC towards the end of the book, there is some animosity between them and then bam, they are together. With the other gentlemen, she at least dated.
I think the concept was interesting, but the story was not as engaging as it could have been perhaps.
I find it difficult to rate this one. The first part I really liked, but the last part was not so much. It was like she ran out of pages and had to write the rest of the story in as less as possible pages ( I mostly mean the thing with Thayer). There were some other things that could have been stretched out to give a bit more excitement (the accident). I was also expected a turn near the end where people would recognize her I was a bit confused when I saw that the book was almost done.
My Salvation: A Contemporary Reverse Harem romance is an ebook I downloaded from Kindle Unlimited. After reading the Killian Blade series, I had to see if the author had other stories available and my search brought this gem to my notice. While a good read with an interesting story, reading so soon after another book by this author, the story's kinda felt the same. The relationships between characters are fast burn, but I enjoyed the interactions and playfulness.
Good book. Lots of character development as Kate grows and heals from her past. They all have good backstory and I’m impressed with the communication between characters, even with the hiccups every relationship has. Lots is steamy bits. But the book seems to end abruptly. I thought she saw there was someone in the crowd she recognized and she’d have a confrontation and get some closure. Sadly not. Overall good read 🙂
I loved the stories of the characters and the scenes were steamy but the ending made me sad. I was hoping for a bit more closure and progression. Wouldn't be so bad of there was a book 2. Still worth reading. So nice to have a book like this that isn't based around an 18 year old !
This popped up on my suggestions and I'm very glad it did. I feel like this is one of the best RH books I have every read. Each character is unique in their own way. The author takes her time with the story letting the reader get to know them all so well. I was so invested in the outcome that I could wait to turn every page and see what happened next.
I loved this book. It was emotional and true, and I felt connected to the characters.
Each of them have a past, but building relationships and moving past trauma is the truth. It’s not always rainbows and sunshine, but finding people to help grow.
I enjoyed this immensely and didn’t want it to end!
The story was nice, probably could have done without a few of the sex scenes as many felt forced and did not flow right. The characters fit well together. I kind of wished that there was more time with Thayer and maybe a few more scenes of them all together as a family.
This book was very sweet. Mostly about the fmc having a rough past and her working through it with men who also have a past their working through. They come together in the end as predicted but if you ever need a sweet book to forget about your worries… this is that one!
3.75 I really liked the story. Her past trauma had me in tears, which is not the norm for me. I couldn't give it 4 stars because the pacing was off making it feel really rushed and incomplete. There were also a few plot holes that are still bugging me. For instance: why bring up the 30 million inheritance if it's not going to contribute to the story.
3.5 stars. So I know this was her first book, but apparently the author has come a long way since this. I love her other work. This didn’t seem like the same author… The story honestly had a lot of potential and I enjoyed the characters, but it just felt like big chunks were cut out. I know she revamped it recently and added an epilogue, but I wish she hadn’t gone so cliche.
The book was incredibly and enjoyed the complex relationship between the men and her. Their passed having to learn to love and let go. I can't wait to see the relationship between the nurse and her mens.
