Confessions #2

Confessions of an Undercover Girlfriend!

Rate this book
So, I'm no longer a virgin sex columnist--thank you, Ollie--but if I thought that was going to make my life easier, boy was I wrong! John is back in town determined to win my forgiveness. Blythe is more ready than ever to take me down. Bridget is totally onto the new twinkle in my eye. And, well, Ollie is just as distractingly delicious as usual.

So, naturally, I have a few more confessions to make.

Confession #1: I came up with what I thought would be the perfect plan to keep my relationship with Ollie a secret--pretend to get back together with John!

Confession #2: It backfired. A lot.

Es que esto fue bien bonito!!!!!
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

I'd rather be annoyed by you than happy with anyone else.

De Ollie mi amor aka my Knight in shining armor, solo puedo decir que... caí.

Choose my doubts. Choose my insecurities. Choose my love, as imperfect as it is. Choose my heart, because it beats only for you. Choose me, for everything you love and everything you don't. Because I'm choosing you, all of you, the parts that drive me wild and the parts that drive me insane. And I'll keep choosing them forever.

3.5 Estrellas!

It really should have been a stand alone. Don't get me wrong the book isn't bad, I actually liked it a lot which is why I'm giving it a four stars but I honestly think it was unnecessary.

Obviously I loved the book :) Funny, and serious at the same time. It was so nice seeing all the characters again. Though I didn't like a few aspects of the book, it was a wonderful read.

I was so excited to finally be able to read this book! I've been waiting for the sequel ever since I read the first book in this series, over a year ago. After trying to be patient for months, I've been rewarded with an amazing sequel that didn't disappoint me at all.

When I started reading this book, I had absolutely no idea what to expect. The first book didn't exactly end with a cliffhanger or something that indicated what the sequel could be about, so I was very curious. I didn't think that Skylar could possibly be even more awkward or embarrassing, but she was, which made this a cringe-worthy, yet relatable, novel. I'm a lot like her, which means that I found her anxiety annoying many times, mostly because I knew I would have done the same thing. Reading this series has definitely made me realize a lot about myself because of that, since I got to see some of my reactions from an exterior point of view. I thought that this was really well done by the author, so I would recommend this series to everyone who struggles with self-esteem and anxiety.

Once again, I found myself really envious of Skye, Bridget and Ollie's friendship, even though it wasn't as present as in the first book. They truly understand and care about each other and it seems amazing to have such a close group of friends. These three are all amazing and complex characters that I love to read about, so I was really glad to read another book about them. Ollie and Skye's relationship is adorable, but also realistic, especially in this novel. I did get a bit annoyed at them around the middle/end part of the book, but that issue was quickly solved. I truly think that Bridget has a role in their relationship, even though that sounds a bit weird and creepy, considering that she's Ollie's brother. I think that their relationship is even more solid because of their past as a trio, which I'm glad about, since I love them so much.

The plot of this sequel is quite complex since Skye put herself in such a messy situation, but I think that it worked. I wish that we could have seen a bit more of Bridget because she is a really interesting character, but I guess that we can't have everything. The ending is a bit cheesy, but I feel like it's like this for a reason. Also, I'm the last person on Earth who would complain about a cheesy romance story - they're my guilty pleasure!

If you have read the first book in this series, I would DEFINITELY recommend its sequel. If you haven't read the first one, pick it up right now and you'll discover a cute, funny and awkward story that will make you swoon more than once.

SINOPSIS:

Totalmente.

Favorite Quotes:

I swear the word threesome literally runs across his eyes, as though he's a human teleprompter willing me to make him an offer he won't refuse. And though that would normally have me running for the hills, I'm sort of morbidly intrigued.

Body fluids? Works every time. Thought, I could explore that further. Menstruation. Diarrhea. There's a lot of great material to work with. I'm pretty sure just saying the word period would be enough to send a guy running for the hills. And for some reason, men act like women killed Santa Claus when we reveal that we don't poop roses and fart potpourri.

The first time I met you, I was on a play date with Bridge. You had cooties so we wouldn't let you touch our Barbies.

I'd rather be annoyed by you than happy with anyone else. Because when we're together, life is perfect. Not always easy, not always smooth, but right in a way it's never been before.

My Review:

Written in first person from the point of view of a highly anxious, self-centered, neurotic, and panic attack prone mousey young woman named Skylar, Confessions of an Undercover Girlfriend was cleverly humorous, exasperating, entertaining, and highly amusing. I often wanted to give Skylar a smack for being so annoying, selfish, and immature, but she was already on the job of beating herself up and frequently on the cusp of a freak-out. Her poor decisions and tendencies for duplicity and avoidance put her in one mortifyingly awkward situation after another. She was riddled with insecurity and did not communicate well, although she was also highly imaginative and living much too deeply in her head, conjuring wild scenarios to match her irrational fears.

This being fiction, her poor choices resulted in a self-fulfilling prophecy- sigh, I really wish that happened more often to awful people in real life - karma just takes too long… Anyway, her epiphany light bulb popped, and after she finally garnered some hard-won insight, her creative plan to rectify her situation was highly inventive and crafty. I smirked and snorted when she became so nervous she began to ramble and gave the parents an “honest-bomb” of confessed childhood antics. I adored this ending; it left me with a smile, which, in my opinion, is the perfect way to finish any book.

4.5 stars

The first half of Confessions of an Undercover Girlfriend! was exactly like Confessions of a Virgin Sex Columnist! - full of Skye making completely stupid decisions in what seemed suspiciously like a forced plot and desperate attempts at hilarity. But that slowly started changing as the book progressed. Skye started showing surprising maturity. She started dealing with her problems, her lack of confidence, her broken friendships instead of pushing it all under the carpet. I liked this Skye a lot better. She made the book worth reading. She's the reason for the 4.5 stars.

5 Star Kindle Unlimited Read and Rate:

My absolute favorite and will read again and again. I strongly recommend! It has outstanding qualities. The characters are wonderful and surprising and multi-dimensional. The writing is luring, engaging, and well-crafted enough to keep me interested from cover to cover and beyond. The plot is astonishing with twists and turns weaved into a well thought and planned story. There’s no pretense and romance was well balanced and done entirely correctly with properly distributed amounts of hints, behaviors and incredible, undeniable chemistry. Predictability is at an all-time low. With the exception of series based books that follow the same path but are just as good. Overall, Favorite, must read again, recommend!!!

Five stars for Kay Marie @ Kaitlyn Davis. Her simple way of writing the story made me feel completely comfortable with it. The characters are great, strong and interesting. There are times I feel angry, hopeless and I simply can’t digest with certain scenes, but when it came to the ending, I have to agree with the storyline of these Confessions Series. Although it is too good to be true, but, yeah.. Who cares! After all, this is not about the real life Confessions. It’s all about fiction where we can have an endless imagination and dreams.

Thank you to author Kay Marie for providing me with an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Find this review and more on my blog The Rest Is Still Unwritten!

Confessions of an Undercover Girlfriend is the sequel to Kay Marie’s fabulous contemporary romance Confessions of a Virgin Sex Columnist and is a deliciously fun and romantic follow-up that will thrill readers with more Skylar and Ollie awesomeness.

Skylar Quinn is no longer a virgin sex columnist thanks to her fabulous boyfriend Ollie, but if Skye thought things would be easy now that she’s got the man of her dreams, she’s been sorely mistaken. Ollie is still driving Skye mad in the most ingenious, and sensual, of ways, but frightened to tell her best friend she’s dating, and totally sleeping with, her brother sees Skye form a plan to convince Bridget she’s getting back with her ex. A secret romance may sound good in theory, but the reality isn’t nearly as good and soon stolen kisses and secret nights aren’t enough. But with all of Skye’s lies starting to backfire, will the cost of keeping her romance with Ollie secret see Skye lose him in the process?

Having loved and devoured Confessions of a Virgin Sex Columnist, I was ecstatic to discover Kay Marie had a sequel in the works and Confessions of an Undercover Girlfriend doesn’t disappoint. Skye is back with her own special brand of wit and quirk and relatable nature. One of the reasons I seem to enjoy this series—besides the delectable romance and brilliant dialogue---is because Skye is actually really relatable to me. I see a lot of myself in her, and that hasn’t changed since the first novel.

Confessions of an Undercover Girlfriend explores the next stage in Skye and Ollie’s journey now that they have acknowledged their feelings and acted upon the desire that has burned between them. In this sequel author Kay Marie details how Skye reacts to finally being with Ollie and puts her characters to the test as they come to understand that being together isn’t always smooth sailing and they’ll actually have to fight for their relationship.

As sweet, adorable and utterly perfect Skye and Ollie are together, it was nice seeing them fumble at times and have problems like a normal couple. It made them real. Marie explores them in a relatable way that sees that delicious chemistry they share woven into life like situations as Skye faces telling Bridget, their families and the world around them that she and Ollie are a couple, while also attempting to overcome the fears she still has about their relationship.

Skye and Ollie continue to blaze in the chemistry department, and even though they’re intimate with each other now, Kay Marie keeps things fairly tame; instead choosing to temp you just enough with the chemistry between them as you know what happens between them as they sizzle together.

So very fun and sweet, Confessions of an Undercover Girlfriend is an excellent sequel that easily satisfied this reader. I don’t know whether Kay Marie has plans to write any more books in the series, but with Confessions of an Undercover Girlfriend ending the way it does, I’m pretty satisfied with Skye’s tale, even if I’d take more of her and Ollie if the chance ever arose.

A great contemporary romance, if you like wonderful chemistry between characters and a romance you can really get behind, this series is for you as Kay Marie will easily make you fall in love with Skye, Ollie and their adorable romance!

This is just as wacky as the first Confessions of a virgin sex columnist. Skylar is just as nervous and fidgety about thinks. She overthinks and is scared. She is fun and quirky but sweet as well. In this one Skylar is now with Ollie but doesn’t want it known until she thinks that it is real and not just lust. Ollie doesn’t like this but goes along because he knows how much Skylar freaks out over things. So he gives her a month.

In this month this poor boy goes through so much craziness to try to get Skylar to see he isn’t going anywhere and this is real. We have Skylar be called out on her ex and her new found feelings for him after he cheated on her and have her best friend treat her like she had cooties. Why? Guilt. guilt that she should feel but not feel. I mean she wasn’t the only one keeping secrets. Ollie was the only one that gets hurt in this whole thing. He is stuck in the middle and it hurts him bad. He loves his sister and Skylar but never feels that Skylar is all in and trusts him and his feelings. Skylar never lets go of the past that had Ollie reject her. She holds it like a glove and lets it affect the here and now.

Ollie does such sweet things. The trip to the Hudson for the wine festival, the flowers at fashion week, the reassurances, understanding when it came to John her ex, and even keeping him a secret. He was kind, patient and loving. He was amazing and incredible. He was lighthearted as well. I hated to see him hurt so much by his sister and her the way he was. And he was right Skylar was selfish and didn’t think. Didn’t think of anyone’s feelings but hers. Ollie loved her so much and did so much for her and yet she just took and didn’t give. She let him feel like a dirty secret. Let him try so hard to show her his love and she held the past over him.

This is a fun, quirky romantic story. The story of Ollie and how he tries to show Skylar the love he has for her is real. The story of Skylar realizing their love wasn’t lust and how she almost loses it. The story of the adventures Skylar has to the journey of seeing the love with Ollie is real and how selfish she was being. the journey of Skylar in her career and realize she needed to take a chance there as well. The romance was adorable for Ollie, Skylar, Bridget and Patrick. It is nutty and wild. Sexy and sweet. We see Blythe change and the drunken night she had with Skylar a hoot. Ollie was even amazing for that one. After the pain Ollie was caused, Skylar had to do something big and boy did she. That was her redeeming moment when it came to her screw up with Ollie. It was amazing to see the hunt and to see the joy of love come forward and shine through. Even the love life of Bridget’s was sweet. A true treat of a love story that is crazy and quirky, fun and sexy at times but also sweet and swoony when it comes to Ollie. Would love a novella or book of them to see where they are later. A wedding or time in europe type thing.

I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review, this does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review in any way.

I really enjoyed the first Confessions book, Confessions of a Virgin Sex Columnist and I'd definitely recommend picking up book one before diving into Confessions of a Virgin Sex Columnist, but it's such a great book you won't regret it!

In my review of Confessions of a Virgin Sex Columnist I made it pretty clear that I liked Skye, and hated that the book had ended! Book two gave me more Skye and her clumsy shenanigans, and I got a resolution to the way book one ended!

After reading both books I can happily say that I am a fan of Kay Marie's writing style. She gets me hooked immediately and I end up devouring the book in less than a day. I found that Confessions #1 made me laugh out loud, and I am happy to report that Confessions of an Undercover Girlfriend had the same effects!

A character that I particularly enjoyed in this book was Blythe. In the first book she's pretty nasty and determined to get rid of Skye, whether that be from wok or her brother's personal life. I would say that Blythe undergoes that largest character growth over the two books, and she ended up being one my favourites!

Kay Marie writes brilliant characters and they all just worked so well together, although Bridget can be loud and opinionated, at some points overly so, we also saw the calm and caring side to her. The only character I hands down did not like was John, but that was pretty much guaranteed!

I would highly recommend going out and picking up Kay Marie's Confessions books if you haven't already, they are incredibly enjoyable New Adult reads, and they aren't overly smutty which is really refreshing!

Finally, the sequel to 'Confessions of a virgin sex columnist'!

This is not a standalone, as the book starts where the first book ended.

Skylar came home after a New Year's Eve party to find Ollie waiting for her, expressing his love. And she is now no longer a virgin sex columnist, but still freaking out, as she can't believe Ollie is in love with her. She is afraid to tell Bridget (her best friend, his sister and their roommate) and wants to keep it a secret until she is used to the idea. And ofcourse this leads to strange, embarrassing situations.

It took me a bit longer to read this as I became a bit annoyed about Skye's strange reasonings to keep lying to Bridget and others about her relationship with Ollie. She risked her friendship with Bridget and her relationship with Ollie and for what? And why?

But then the situation came to a head and it was indeed explained why Skye reacted this way and why she was feeling she could never have Ollie's love. I loved the way Skye made amends and really envied her friendship with Bridget. The ending was romantic and satisfying.

After reading the first book 'Confessions of a virgin sex columnist!', I was quite disappointed with this book. Halfway through the book it felt like the plot was losing momentum and I saw the major plot twist coming. Also, a lot of the drama seemed orchestrated with Sky's anxiety getting worse in this book than in the last and making me quite annoyed. There were still a few laugh out loud moments and I liked the progression of Blythe's and Sky's relationship, hence the two star rating. Overall, this was an okay read however I think it would have been better if the duology was condensed into a single book; if John knocking on the door was left out of the ending of the first book then that would have been a good ending to Sky and Ollie's story. This book just felt like a drama fest.

Since I read The Complete Duet but really wanted to leave a review, there might be some allusions to the first book I apologize beforehand.

So... this story is about Skylar, who is a college graduated and works as a columnist in the newspaper, writing a sex column... the irony here is that she is a virgin and is a complete failure as an adult I really question her half of the time because, how does she function on an everyday basis, how does she takes the subway and walk to work and do anything at all with all that anxiety, she freaked out and started avoiding a guy from her building after two less than 60 seconds interactions with him just because she had something in her teeth... seriously!? She went on a date and she treated the guy as if he was the only male left in the world and this was the beginning of forever, is this for real!? I really hated her, I have anxiety problems and let me tell you... this is far from real.

I really wanted to give these books a higher rating but the more I think about them, the least I think I liked them. Don't get me wrong, the plot is really good but I couldn't pass Skylar personality, she was annoying as hell. The only reason I finished these books was because of Ollie, he was an amazing character, so charming, cute and his vulnerability was beyond endearing, he was a consistent character through both books. Now... let's talk about Bridget, shall we? She was really good in the first book, I really liked her personality and made me want a friend like her... then the second book came around and... oh boy... that was awful, she was awful, it's not about the dating thing... it's about the lying thing. They have been friends almost all of their lives, I understand Skylar fears about her relationship (I don't condone it), I mean they are her rock through and through, and she is afraid to lose them if something goes wrong, I get that... but Bridget? She is full of nothing, what she did is unforgivable, again is not about the dating is an about the secrecy of all. I was seriously pissed about everything, I feel that their BFF relationship is superficial at best, you simply don't do that to your friends, your real best friends, rant over.

The ending was cute, just fine but I don't know, maybe this wasn't my cup of tea, maybe I'm too old for NA, but this is a definite no to me. My suggestion, read the first book, if you like it, read the next one if you don't but you really want to know what happens next, write me and I will let you know what you're missing.

I have mixed feelings towards this book. I loved the first one, I die hard loved the first one so I was a little afraid to read the second one because in my mind this is a book that should stay as a stand alone.

My thoughts after reading it?

It really should have been a stand alone. Don't get me wrong the book isn't bad, I actually liked it a lot which is why I'm giving it a four stars but I honestly think it was unnecessary.

Bridge and Patrick? Seriously?! That's breaking the first rule of friendship code! I was not okay with this at all, I hated this completely, specially because I loved Patrick in the first one. I'm still fuming about this one.

Secondly? Sky insecurities annoyed me a bit on this one but it wasn't a deal breaker for me, it was who she was and I truly understands her, in fact why I liked her character so much is because I am so much like her.

One thing I really loved was the growing friendship with Blythe and the changing dynamic with her co workers and of course Ollie, he was such a prince and I was more than happy to read about their relationship.

It was a funny, fast paced and entertaining book but completely unnecessary and for the love of God Patrick and Bridge was the last thing I needed to read about

Posta?

Such a fun light read. I loved the story and the characters. At the beggining of the book some aspects of Skye were annoying but towards the end you understand why she is that way. I love how she develop and became the person she wanted to be for herself. And Ollie 😍...he is just perfectttt❤️❤️❤️! I’m happy how the story finished and that Skye had to face all of her insecurities to get what she wanted. It wasn’t all magically resolved in a couple of pages because, let me tell you, she screw up big time!! Also, I’m glad that Bridge and Patrick ended up together. Like Skye says at the end they complement each other pretty well.

I listened to this book as an audio obsession group reviewer and WOW. First and foremost the narration of this audiobook makes the book. I literally was laughing, pacing and smiling like a goof all because the expressions used while narrating. The overall story is a great friendship romance. I love the hidden love lessons throughout the book and the overall storyline. There's drama, wit and overall internal struggle and I love the outline as it's like reading or listening to someone confess their inner most thoughts. I generally prefer duel perspective but this book doesn't need it. I would've loved an epilogue 5 years or so into the future but beggers can not be choosers. #dowtimereading

Great!

Interesting book but *hides* Skye annoyed me throughout this book just keeping the secret from her bestie and then getting mad when bestie was dating her ex. Bridge was mature to forgive her and knew that Skye deserved better when she lied about the dating her terrible ex. I would love of read of what happens with Skye and Ollie in the future. Ollie was just an amazing guy and so patient with Skye! Also, Blythe would be interesting to read a story about. All and all I give this a 5 star also!

Warning! Do not read while husband sleeps beside you!

Utterly adorable! Not to mention freaking hilarious! I had to get up from bed and sneak into the bathroom and smother my mouth with a towel as I cracked up laughing!! My husband doesn’t mind me enjoying a book till the middle of the ( 2am!) night, but he definitely minds if I wake him up with a belly laugh! Lol

Again the humour carries on in this book. I absolutely loved it. Kept me entertained for hours! Amazing narration from Annie. Written very well. Great storyline and fantastic characters.

Obviously I loved the book. Duh! Funny, and serious at the same time. It was so nice seeing all the characters again. Though I didn't like a few aspects of the book, it was a wonderful read.

So cute!

I actually LOL’d several times. Rate for a book. This and the first in the series are both thoroughly enjoyable and romantic reads.

I didn't like this book as much as the first one. The main character, Skye, is so annoying that I feel like slapping her for most of the book.

Funny and relatable

Decent read, good storyline. Not so surprising turn of events but still an enjoyable read and genuinely funny. Perfect to encourage a good mood
