Distance is a social platform that (just like other social platforms) can display the distance between parties. Ting Shuang had chosen someone that was 287 kilometres away from him, thinking that it was very safe. After all, when there’s more than two hundred kilometres between them, they wouldn’t awkwardly chance upon each other in real life, right!
Unexpectedly… The next night, 287 kilometres suddenly became 4.8 kilometres???
And even more unexpectedly… In the afternoon of the third day, 4.8 kilometres suddenly became 3 metres???
3 metres?????
Metres?????
I’m having a f*cking lesson right now, doesn’t 3 meters mean that the person I was flirting with is in the classroom right now?
Sweet, cute, easy & short read at 90 chapters and 3 extras. I enjoyed this novel for what it was but I feel like you’ll have to be okay with a few things that I listed at the bottom. There’s also a manhua.
🔵 Professor x student 🔵 Age gap 36 x 24 🔵 Slice of life romance, minimal angst, domestic 🔵 Character driven but some plot & depth that came out of nowhere 🔵 Best, greenest ML (and wears glasses which is my favorite) 🔵 Both established gay 🔵Healthy, non-toxic relationship
MC Ting Shuang: 24, student getting Master’s degree, can have an attitude or act childish at times throwing tantrums. There is character growth though! ML Bai Changyi: 36, strict professor, patient, kind, doting. Surprised me that he wasn’t a by-the-book rule follower. For some reason I thought he was going to be like Xie Qingcheng from BAB.
Things you’ll have to accept to enjoy this novel: ✔️Insta dating exclusively ✔️ Very immature MC initially with some cringe behavior ✔️ New relationship immediately after breakup of 7 years together and it was his first relationship ✔️ Lots of references to a 24 y/o as a “kid/boy” and 36 y/o as “old” ✔️ Suspend a few things about their relationship development
If you’re looking for something light, sweet, and easy to fall into—a low-stakes romance with heart—this book does the job. It’s cute, cozy, and occasionally cringe in the best way. Think soft smiles, playful banter, and just enough secondhand embarrassment to keep things entertaining.
I’ll admit, though, I almost gave up on it early. The beginning of their relationship felt rushed. One date, a snap decision to go exclusive, and suddenly they’re living together before the halfway mark. There’s an age gap, a professor-student dynamic, and almost no friction over any of it. It felt a little too convenient, like the setup skipped all the emotional groundwork. I wanted more tension, maybe more buildup. something to make the payoff feel earned
But I’m glad I stuck with it. Around the midway point, I realized this was exactly what the author intended. Rather than focusing on the chase or the pining, the story is more about what comes after: the simple, quiet joy of being together. It’s about domestic routines, small gestures, and those little moments of care that gradually deepen into something real. I really liked the dynamic between the leads. The ML is super patient, always showing soft, steady affection. I love that he's strict and cold with everyone except the MC. MC can be a little bratty at times, but it’s clear he really cares about him. You can tell he puts in the effort to make the ML happy. It’s a pairing that just works—low on angst, light on drama, and filled with warm moments.
All in all, this was a fun and unexpectedly touching read. If you’re in the mood for a feel-good story about two people growing together and finding joy in each other’s company, with plenty of fluff and just enough chaos to keep things lively, this one’s a solid pick.
My heart was full of angst before reading this novel. But with just the first few chapters, I couldn’t stop myself from laughing. It tickled my funny bone so much I couldn’t hold it in and laughed out loud even when I was in public.
Humor aside, this novel also made me reflect on my life. I should have read this book when I was still a student, that way I wouldn’t have wasted so much of my time idling around, not knowing where my passion lies. It made me wish I had someone like Prof. Bai, someone to guide my younger self.
The ending wasn’t what I expected though. It was nice but I think it could have been better. I was expecting a much more emotional scene. But overall, this novel is worth a read. Totally recommend it!
This story is pretty sweet and lovely, but omg I'm so bored. Also, Ting throws so many tantrums for a 24 year old, it was rather annoying sometimes just how immature he acts. BUT, insta-love (kinda), sweet moments, little angst thus far, and really cute dates -- so I wouldn't tell people NOT to read it, definitely give it a go if you need some fluff in your life.
I finished this in one sitting and can't even believed that I reached the end just like that! I just freaking love this novel so much! I've read enough of Ting Shuang's (MC) secondhand embarrassment to last for a few years! It's so hilarious and embarrassing that I only found myself facepalming, and I even have moments when I was peeking through my fingers while reading Ting Shuang losing his dignity.
But seriously, I just love the relationship between Ting Shuang and his older lover Bai Changyi (ML). Just a reminder that they have a huge age gap (12 years) but both of them are already adults. They both have past relationships. At the start of the novel, Ting Shuang was even going through a breakup with his first and long time boyfriend. Bai Laoban, on the other hand, was once married and had a female companion but because of the truth of him being gay, they got divorced. Though they both have relationship experiences, you can easily distinguished the gap of their life experiences. Though both of them are adults, Ting Shuang had a childish attitude and immature way of handling things. He has a very bad temper and he likes to always make a fuss. But his personality complements Bai Laoban's personality perfectly. Bai Laoban is just so patient, so understanding and so level-headed. He's rational and can keep his calm all most of the time. He's so dependable and reliable. He's literally a perfect partner anyone could have ever wished for! I almost commented the same thing in every chapter: 'I want a Bai Changyi for myself!'. He's just so mature and he can handle a relationship really well.
Seriously, please try reading this novel. I really really recommend this to anyone and everyone! I'm pretty sure that you'll like this!
No sé si me expliqué bien.
objectively this is a good story, just not for me. one of my least favorite tropes is insta love and although I wouldn't say this falls directly into that category it is very close. i kept reading because it was a light and fun slice of life story that was really easy to read.
positives: - super easy read, chapters are not too long - not a toxic relationship, theyre a really healthy couple who communicates well with each other - i really enjoyed when bai changyi was speaking with ting shuangs father about accepting his son, i think this story handled this plot line really well
negatives: - constant mentions of their age gap. im not one against age gaps as long as the two participants are in a consensual relationship and are above the ages 23ish but for some reason ting shuang could not stop calling bai changyi an old man and making fun of his age, its not a big issue just got a little annoying - - dragged a little bit at certain parts
overall its not that bad, but not exactly what i was looking for. if you love easy, slice of life romances where there is not too much build up to get into the relationship this is a good option.
Me hizo reír y reflexionar.
This was a short and cute read. The premise was hilarious, though I can't help but think that if a dating app like this actually existed that let you see the distance between you and your connections, that would be super stalker-ish.
**Warning: Spoilers Ahead**
I was hoping for more from the relationship build up but it happened very quickly, as in there was barely any buildup before they decided to go official and shortly afterwards move in together. I haven't been on the dating apps in a while but even I know dating isn't this easy!!
I was frustrated at times with Ting Shuang. He is clearly nowhere as mature as Bai Changyi, and that comes out when he's throwing a childish tantrum or not communicating his thoughts clearly with BCY. I was getting quite annoyed especially during the whole fight about moving in together. Kudos to BCY for being able to keep his patience and being able to manage Ting Shuang when he's in a mood.
Given their semi-teacher/student relationship, I would've loved to see more scenes where either BCY's coworkers or TS's friends almost find out about their relationship. There was just one near incident with one of TS's friends, but I wanted more! The author didn't fully take advantage of this trope; there was so much potential there.
The story takes a turn for the serious about 2/3 of the way through, when TS's father experiences a stroke and TS has to rush home to China to see him in the hospital and then deal with all the ensuing drama. That added some depth to the story for me, since before that it was 100% a lighthearted romcom. The transition is a bit odd though, since one moment TS is worrying about class and then two chapters later you see him rush back to China and worrying about whether his dad's business partners are trying to sell his company behind his back.
Overall a short and cute read. Probably wouldn't go back to it again, but it was refreshing to read a story not set in China so the main characters could openly be together in public.
I don't like the way she turned the step-brother from humour “gay-best friend” to... traitor without any proper excuse. The main plot hole was in this character’s development as he switched bad to good and vice-versa which kind of disturbed my reading flow. Literally a page ago he was still a supporter, who Ting can trust more than anyone related to Roborun's social ring to antagonist.
The enterprise drama, a flash in the pan. I assume it like a “make-sense” boosted drama for Ting growing up, hasn't been taken care of at the end.
Overall, still worth my time to finish it quickly with almost 100 chapters.

Rating: 5/5 - Hands down one of the healthiest relationships I’ve ever read!
I fell in love with the characters- especially the ML. The older, patient, respectful man of everyone’s dreams honestly!
This book explored a lot of interesting topics that may appear boring at first but in hindsight are quite thought provoking and valuable. The author really put her soul into this story and it’s one of my favourites!
It was absolutely wonderful with enough comedy and romance and ordinary life problems as well.
The secondhand embarrassment was so real but so was the growth that Ting Shuang (MC) experienced. The way TS connected with Bai Changyi (ML) was so freaking chaotic but luckily with how the app was created, it didn't take long for them to realise who the other party was. Gah, how I wish I could find a guy like BCY though - what a gentleman who's endlessly patient with his much younger boyfriend.
At the start, I thought that TS was childish which landed him in some ridiculous situations sometimes and he threw tantrums often but a good trait of his is that he was self-aware at least. He knew he had a bad temper, he was very much aware of his shortcomings e.g how immature and insecure he was and how he lashed out to people he was close to. And with this self-awareness and BCY by his side, he gradually matured as the story progressed; he learned through his relationship with BCY to consider different perspectives and to prevent him from retaining the narrow mindset that he was always right. Not only that, he gained more confidence in himself and it affected his relationship with others positively too. I was so happy with his growth; he was still a little immature and he still acted spoiled around BCY but I think that's just part of his charm.
Whereas BCY was so patient and attentive from the start - he said he would remember something and he really did, even offhand remarks made by TS. And despite their age gap of 12 years, BCY treated TS as an equal in that he respected and valued TS's opinions and feelings, and did his best to help TS profesionally and personally. He had so much love for TS - he knew that TS was insecure and that's why he helped TS to gain more self-confidence and even if that wasn't enough to increase TS's sense of security, it was fine because he had more than enough love for TS. Most importantly, he believed in TS and never underestimated him, always supporting him even if it meant they had to be in a long distance relationship while TS went off to discover and learn more about himself and what he truly wanted in life.
BCY and TS have such a healthy, sweet and loving relationship overall, and the way the main story ended by coming full circle made my heart feel so full and warm.
- "I'm so proud." Ting Shuang looked at Bai Changyi, his eyes bright as if stardust was overflowing from them, "You're mine." "I'm also very proud." He smiled at Ting Shuang, "I'm yours."
HELLO? THAT'S SO FREAKING SWEET. I want what they have ☹
The familial relationship between TS and his father and step-brother also underwent changes which benefited them in the end. It's quite typical for Asian parents to be homophobic but I liked how it was handled in this story. With BCY's help, TS's father realised that there was nothing wrong with TS, but rather it was his own outdated mindset that made him believe his son needed to get married to a woman and have kids to be happy. Eventually he accepted their relationship and was respectful of it even if he wasn't necessarily happy about it. That's good enough honestly and from there TS was able to mend his relationship with his father.

pros: good writing style, good plot and pacing, funny moments and well written characters, healthy dynamic, not too long, i think pretty accurate representation of the age gap
cons: age gap (24/32, which is not THAAT bad but i had the same age gap with ppl i talked to on tinder before and relating that to each other makes me super uncomfortable im ngl, actually did not love the characters as much as the other comments did (they were fine and likeable but they did not make me love them as much as a lot of other novels did), the whole germany aspect was very weird to read as someone who is german for some reason?? idk it kept throwing me out of the story, DONT CALL HIM PAPA TF THATS SI UNCOMFORTABLE genuinely ive never heard it use in a non-family way before this pls stop its not sexual at all
Uke is so damn straightforward and so youthful. He had a lot of AWKWARD moment while seme is a lot more mature. Seme is not perfect but as he's the oldest in the relationship, he tried to be matured and i like it! Both of their relationship is ugh GOALS. and the twist at almost the end.. and they way author handle it, fudge. Not that good but still goood sia. I wanna comment more but too lazy to put spoiler tag. Anyway, i feel like we can know more but at the same time i dont think we should. So yeah, it ended right where it should be. Tbh, it's getting boring around the last 10 or 5 chapters. Extra is a bit meh 😓
Their relationship is so incredible and was just what I needed. It's an age-gap relationship done very well. It made me think about life and death with surprising profoundness that was not what I had anticipated going into this read. I found the MC to be similar to myself so it was especially meaningful to see how he was cared for and grew as the story progressed. There are many small but touching details that characterize the leads very well and make the love between them seem both believable and precious.
i kin ting shuang. icb i CRIED because yd ended😭😭 i cried bc the ending of the extra was so,,abrupt. im not even sure that was the actual ending/idk if i missed out on an extra. but other than that, this was suchh a good novel omg. it didnt draw out the miscomm (which i have a love hate relationship w/) and instead resolved it quickly (ty for that gzy). i dont know where im going w this. point is, good novel with a very sweet relationship between the mc and ml. i wish i had a man like bai changyi.
The beginning of the story is interesting, and the novel also has some very good and funny moments. But beyond those separate good moments, I didn’t really understand where the story was trying to go. Some plot lines felt somewhat pointless. I also feel like it would have been nice to have more of Bai Chanyi's POV in the novel. We can see that he is completely head over heels for Ting Shuang, but it would be nice to read about his inner struggles as a professor in a relationship with his student.
As a german bean, I have to admit I was very sceptical when I read that this was a chinese novel set in Germany. But it's so brilliantly done, even using some german wordplays, kudos to the author. <3 Your Distance starts out as a soft teacher/student romance and mutates into so much more; and you get to experience so much character development from both the main characters and those around them. Highly recommend!
A funny, cute and slice of life book done right with tropes (age-gap) that I usually don't read.
Ting Shuang is a relatable character to me pursuing a career that he doesn't like, but not backing off because he has to finish what he started. Insecurities and all.
Bai Laoban is the greenest shade of green 💚. Love how he loves and cares for Ting Shuang, guides when he is lost, let him figure out things, always there for him and what not. The list is never ending.
This was probably the first BL I ever read as I don't usually follow this trope. But I love it. It shows great character development for the young male lead. It makes me want to have a Bai Changyi as my own mentor. He's very mature and very practical. They fit each other so well.
It's probably one of the softest love stories I ever read.
If you want to roll on the floor laughing, this is it!
The story itself is pretty hilarious and entertaining to read. The writing is not something I personally prefer, and the characters apart from the leads weren't very well written, in my opinion. But it was a short and humorous story and served its purpose.
“You can’t always be afraid, you have to find a way around it.”
This novel is sexy and funny!!! I can't stress enough how hilarious this one is. if you are tired of stories with a heavy plot, please read your distance! I'm sure people who still don't know what to do in the future will enjoy this book. I've learned a lot about dreams, life, birth, and dying. Totally recommended!
TwT
