This book contains flash fiction stories that are a companion to the THIRDS series. While reading these stories would enhance your experience of the THIRDS world, it is not necessary to read them in order to enjoy the series. The THIRDS Beyond the Books volumes should be read after completing the THIRDS series, as the flash fiction stories refer to events that have happened or have been mentioned in the main series and therefore may contain spoilers.

Charlie’s stories will stir your imagination and ignite your passion. So grab your favorite coffee, turn up the music, and prepare for your next adventure.
In this collection of flash fiction stories from the THIRDS universe we get snippets of Dex, Sloane, Cael, Ash, Tony, Calvin, Hobbs, Hudson, Seb, Rosa, Letty and even Lou and Bradley’s lives. There’re childhood memories, family bonding moments, team antics as well as sexy times.
It’s definitely a great dose of fluff and feelings that will make waiting for the next installment less excruciating. Also, since these stories are written to prompts submitted by fans, it's a fun way to satisfy your curiosity about some things and get to know the characters better.
This volume made me particularly excited for Seb and Hudson's book. I loved reading about their past and I'm very interested to see where their relationship goes.

2020 review I am a big fan of this series and these shorties are too adorable for words! I have loved Dex and Sloane and Cael from the start and seeing them as kids is just, squee!!!!!!! Baby Cael!!!! Come on, who could resist that face?!?!? Then Sloane and Dex together, Dex sick, yikes! And the baby books! Sloane freaking out what hilarious. Of course this volume starts with a serious tone of Tony having to take care of Dex after his parents die. It was heartbreaking. There is so much in this volume. All the characters are here and haha, Ash is hilarious with his softening around Cael, and his "hate" of Dex. The rest of the gang, while I enjoy them my heart belongs to Sloane and Dex. 😊 If you want some behind the scenes moments with your favorite characters, this is a great way to do that. Now I want to re-read the whole series, lol. 4 stars!
2018 review Aww, I loved this shorties. I just wish they were longer. :) Especially from when Dex and Cael are kids, and Cael is all adorable kitten. <3 I just want my own squishy Cael, please!!!
Because I obviously live under a rock on the internet, I didn't even know about the existence of THIRDS Thursdays or the THIRDS flash fiction, until recently. And when I discovered them, I thought, for sure, there was no way I'd find them all and get to read them. But Charlie Cochet, being the Goddess she is, has put them all into a collection! I also noticed that there is another Beyond the Books collection coming out later this year, and that makes me beyond happy!
The snapshots of various times and events found in THIRDS Beyond the Books is bound to make any fan of the series giddy with excitement. I pretty much curled up with this book, and growled any time anyone got too close to me, because -- THIRDS!!! Time to read! I was not disappointed at all. This is a fantastic collection.
I do have some favorite moments, like 6 year old Dex meeting Cael for the first time -- my heart melted. And Calvin and Hobbs first meeting -- Calvin was truly a superhero. Oh, and when Sloane accompanies Dex to a thing where he has to read a story to a bunch of Therian kindergartners - priceless! Or, a peek into the early relationship of Seb and Hudson. We even get the first meeting of Cael and Ash - from each of their perspectives - Cael was embarrassingly clumsy. It was rather adorable to see him so flustered. I could just keep going, and going!
So, if you are a fan of this series, definitely buy this book. Not only is it more than worth the buck you'll pay for it, and I can pretty much guarantee you'll love it, but all royalties from this book will be donated to the Big Cat Rescue. So buy it. Read it. And enjoy every extra moment of insight into, not only main characters lives, but some secondary characters, too!
-------------------- ARC of THIRDS Beyond the Books, Vol. 1 was generously provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. (But I preordered it anyway, because it's for a good cause and I can't get enough of these guys.)
Seriously? Could I love this group of characters any more than I already do? Cochet brings the goods people, and it lends tons of insight into the past, the beginnings, and the personalities of all our favorites, as well as filling in some blanks on other characters such as Seb & Hudson, and favorite sneaky cheetah, Austen.
You’ll cry tears of joy and sadness, laugh out loud literally, and go “awwww” a dozen times over. Ridiculously feel good stuff. Ugh. I can’t even.
This volume contains all kinds of little stories requested by fans. I loved all the extra info in this collection, from the beginning of these series until now. My favorite part was the sex talk between Dex and Tony...I wanted to know about that ever since I learned about it. It was so funny !!
Hudson and Seb were to most intriguiging to me. I really want to know more about those two and I loved Hudsons english cursing !!
This is a great addition to one of the best series ever !!
It has some fun parts, but also sweet and emotional ones.
I can't wait to read the next book about Dex and Sloane ;)
4,5 stars from me and I also think it's awesome that the money collected from Volume is going to a good cause !!!
What Charlie Cochet did here is truly wonderful for her fans. Not that I don't think she had a blast while doing it, but the she took writing these shorts based on fan requests is pretty amazing.
THIRDS Beyond the Books is a compilations of fan requests, in the form of prompts, for a little more behind your favorite cast of characters from THIRDS. No one was left out. If you wanted to see the moment Dex, as a small child, met Cael or the moment Calvin and Hobbs met as teenagers, this compilation has them. We get more Dex and Sloane, Ash and Cael, Calvin and Hobbs....there's even Seb and Hudson, Bradley and Lou, even Rosa and Letty. There are past stories and present. Ms. Cochet covered all her bases, and it was done really well. We even got some smexy times thrown in for good measure.
My personal favorites were the prompts asking for a time where Dex was jealous, where Sloan was jealous, and where Dex was truly mad at Sloane. I love me some internal struggle->gimme, gimme more.
THIRDS fans will enjoy this little does of their fix while waiting for the next installment. I know I did!
A must for any THIRDS fan! If you follow Charlie Cochet on social media you probably already know about THIRDS Thursdays where readers submit prompts for a flash fiction story they would like to see. Depending on when the story was written, some has been covered in subsequent books, but here you’ll find a collection of some of these shorts ranging from alternate points of view and bonus scenes, to childhood flashbacks. All the main characters are represented, but there are also looks at Austen and Zach, Lou and Bradley and Gabe. So grab your gummy bears, put on that Def Leppard album and dive in!
From first kisses and meetings to first shifts, the stories range from fun (Maddock having “the talk” with Dex including video) to those that will tug at your heart (Dex freaking when Cael has to get his Therian tattoo). I’m a sucker for the stories revolving around the men as children and I loved getting a peek into the early days of Seb and Hudson’s tragic romance, as well as seeing Gabe interact with his team. I guarantee any THIRDS fan will find something new and interesting in this book. You’ll also probably leave with a better understanding of your favorite characters.
I would not start here if you haven’t at least read the first book in the THIRDS series, but this is a wonderful companion to the series. The stories are brief and headlined with the prompt it was written for, allowing you to pick and choose among favorite characters if you wish, or just pick and choose depending on your mood. Since the prompts were reader requests, you’ll probably find something you yourself have wondered about while reading the THIRDS books.
It’s a perfect read to get you by as you wait for the next book. If that’s not enough to entice you, all royalties from this book will be donated to the Big Cat Rescue (http://bigcatrescue.org).
This was absolutely wonderful collection of short stories featuring THIRDS agents at different stages of their lives from childhood and teenage years to adulthood. Some were hilarious, some nearly brought me to tears and some had me sigh happily. All the stories are pretty short with multiple POVs and are all the tidbits that fans of THIRDS wanted to know about our favorite Therians and Humans. The volume reads very easy, and all the stories are very engaging. I enjoyed it immensely. Copy received for my honest and unbiased review.
Thursday has been a day of worship for all THIRDS fans ever since Charlie thought of and started the (in)famous THIRDS Thursdays. THIRDS Thursdays include free flash fiction based on readers’ prompts, but also character interviews, various quizzes and lots of other things. The most popular, of course, is the actual flash fiction for which the readers constantly send their wishes and prompts. It can be anything, as long as it respects the timeline and doesn’t spoil the storylines that have yet to be published.
THIRDS Thursdays are something for which the fans (especially members of the THIRDS Nerds group on Facebook) are eternally grateful. They make waiting for the next book much easier and, because Charlie is who she is, they tend to make us roar with laughter. If you’re a latecomer or entirely new to the series, it can be a challenge to dig up older Thursday posts and follow the proper timeline, so when Charlie and Dreamspinner decided to publish all of her flash fiction in two volumes, I applauded the idea.
THIRDS Thursdays tend to jump back and forth on the timeline, ranging from Dex’s childhood to something that happens right after the newly released book. In Beyond the Books, the flash fiction is in chronological order, which helps with knowing when to stop if you haven’t read all the books.
In this first volume, we see Dex and Cael as they come to live with their adoptive father. We follow Cael on his first date and witness the embarrassment of Tony’s special sex ed. Charlie writes about Dex’s first days as an HFN officer, the first meeting of Calvin and Hobbs, as well as Cael and Ash’s first encounter. We also get a much needed insight into Seb and Hudson’s tragic relationship and above all, we get to enjoy several amazing moments with Sloane and Dex.
There aren’t many authors who are this good to their fans, and Charlie deserves all our support for doing what she does with such joy and grace. After this comes Smoke & Mirrors, which goes back to Sloane and Dex after two books focused on other couples. We were left with a giant cliffhanger in Catch a Tiger, which means that we’re all pretty desperate to get our greedy little hands on our copies. I already have mine, and if you don’t, you really should catch up and pre-order yours.
I absolutely loved getting these extra snippets and peeks at our THIRDS’ men’s lives. They were funny, insightful, heartbreaking, and at times appalling.
Everyone had a cameo or staring role in these with the exception of Sparks, Wolf and some of the baddies.
I especially liked all of the snippets which showed us how each of the THIRDS couples first met. Very cute.
I enjoyed all these little drabbles, they were so fun to read! From getting some snippets of the Daley/Maddock household over the years (and even Dex and his parents w/ Tony a few hours before they died :( it was so bittersweet to read that) all the way to all the couples in the series's first meetings, even Calvin/Ethan a few times as they grew up together, and even one of Sloane and Ash in the facility, a few Seb/Hudson ones too that were cute.
Can't wait to read volume two! These are so fun :D
I like the idea of a published author taking the time out to write a book in this case on prompts by her fans. I think it is a sure way to stay connected and offer little tidbits in between publication of the series. This was great. I laughed at some of the prompts, and Aww'd at anything Tony, Dex and Cael related. They definitely were my favorite. I think Charlie handled each prompt really well. I loved the little bits of the past we got to see in certain characters. I look forward to Seb and Hudson getting back together and their love being shown on page. I loved seeing peeping Austen and quiet Zach. Bear shifters are one of my favorite and he's so amazing. Of course, I can't write by review without fangirling over Brodie & Hobbs separately of course. I literally had a big cheesy grin on my face once I got into it.
This book showcased some of my favorite moments in the short story. The first time Tony talks to Dex about Cael, I loved when Cael got his mark on him. Of course I was emotional. Loved seeing Calvin & Hobbs meet for the first time. Really liked seeing Tony give Dex the sex talk. I was continuously laughing. My all time favorite was definitely the Lamaze prompt. Whoever the promptee was I definitely applaud you. I loved it. Thank you Charlie for giving us these and it's definitely something you should do again down the line. Now when is the next Thirds book coming out?
Charlie is one of the most generous and sweetest authors I know. I love the little snippets into the THIRDS world that she provides with her THIRDS Thursdays. I laughed and I cried and I loved them all.
This collection of behind-the-scenes snapshots into the lives of our favourite members of Destructive Delta is an absolute must-read for all THIRDS fans.
I can’t rave about this series enough. I feel like Cochet has nailed this series in a way that is rare in long running book series. The writing quality and the world-building is absolutely fantastic, but mostly it’s the brilliant and lovable characters that keep me coming back for more! I adore ALL the characters in this series. The trials and tribulations they each endure paired with the fun, love, friendships and familial bonds they share make for some great reading.
This is definitely a set of stories which will make you laugh, then cry, and then laugh again.
I LOVE this collection of shorts from The THIRDS universe. Definitely read this after reading the first main series of THIRDS. It has such great moments with so many characters. I love getting to see pre-THIRDS stories with Dex and Cael, and I love the extra and new moments with Sed and Hudson, Ash and Cael, and of course Dex and Sloane.
I read the original set of 2 books, which are both in this one volume, and the original set of 3 and 4 are in the new Vol 2.
'THIRDS' by Charlie Cochet is one of my top ten all-time favorite series. So when I heard that she was putting together a collection of fan fiction shorts, you can believe I was all over the dibsing for this book. The thought of the author writing shorts in response to prompts from fans had me salivating. The other thing it had me doing, however, was scratching my head in frustration at how I was going to write this review.
As much as I would dearly love to talk about each and every prompt and the short that went with it, I decided instead to focus on the meaning behind them. The author definitely presented them in a timeline, for example beginning with Dex at age five and when his dad's best friend, Tony, became his adopted dad after Dex's parents were killed. Then moving on to how Tony rescued Cael and adopted him, and so on. There were many advantages to me that the stories were presented this way. One of the big ones being I got to really see the struggles between Humans and Therians, and the prejudices that Dex, Tony, Cael, and others dealt with as they grew up. Prejudices and attitudes that shaped them into the men they became.
Ok, so some of them were a bit more serious than others but for them most part reading this book had me laughing out loud.
This is a great chance to see our favourite characters, and there are a lot of characters featured, enjoying themselves. It reminds me of the old bloopers series that used to be on TV where you got the silly outtakes or bits that hadn’t made it onto screen.
Most of these stories are only 2 or 3 pages long and they each start off with a prompt from readers. Literally anything goes! They are a way to spend your time whilst waiting for the next book, they are short enough to pick up to read a few then leave again for a few days, they are little memories from the past books, they are ‘oh yeah’ moments and they are teasers of what is to come.
If you are THIRDS fan then this is for you. I enjoyed them all but my all-time favourite is Tony giving Dex THE talk! I cried with laughter through that one!
“What Dan is doing is stimulating Ronnie’s prostate. The prostate is the little-“ “Nope.” Dex shook his head. His dad was not about to give him a play by play of what was going on,
Tony pursed his lips and pointed to the chart. “Now see, when the finger or penis is inserted through the anus…”
A little book consolidating the THIRDS Thursday fanfic stories that Charlie writes for free to prompts from the THIRDS Nerds group and others on Facebook, and yes of course I'm a member!!
Plenty of Dex/Sloane, Ethan/Cal and Cael/Ash as well as a little Seb/Hudson cameo and Sloane/Gabe. Well worth the money. Thanks Charlie. x
No rating. Not because it was bad or anything I just can't decided me and my indecisive ass loved this but also skimmed some of the short stories. I do believe die hard fans should read this you are in for a treat. I can't wait to read the next one :)
