I left my job in 2018 because I made more money writing and self-publishing children's books (picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels) than working full time for someone else. I wanted to write books from home full time for years but was stuck in a life working for other people. Determined to change my life, I set out on a path to live the one I always imagined for myself and for my family.
I tell you my story in this book as if we were best friends standing face to face. I tell you my failures and my triumphs on the road to selling 100,000 children’s books. I tell it to you this way because I want you to succeed.

How I Sold 100,000 Children's Books by David Blaze is an inspiring and practical guide for anyone looking to succeed in self-publishing, particularly in the children’s book niche. Blaze shares his personal journey with humor and honesty, providing actionable tips on everything from crafting appealing stories to mastering marketing strategies. What stands out is his approachable tone and how he simplifies the process, making it a quick and enjoyable read. If, like me, you dream of sharing your stories with young readers and achieving real success in the publishing world, this book offers both motivation and a clear roadmap to get there.
I enjoyed this quick read a lot, because the author is very down to earth and casual. He shares his experiences, his mistakes, and I feel like I learned a few things. I had hoped for more details, maybe a checklist, etc but this book was more of a personal story than a “how to do it, exactly” book. Even so, the book gave me an overall feeling of not wanting to give up just yet, and I think that may be what I needed.
If you have an inkling of writing a children’s book. You’ll want to read this first! It gave me a great idea of what to expect along the way. This isn’t a ‘do or don’t’ list but more of a ‘this is what worked and didn’t work’ story. It was good information!
I enjoyed reading this book. Blaze is very conversational and the read was casual and quick. This books motivates me to keep on writing and to understand the process a little better. Thank you.
This book is a wonderful reference for marketing. I've read it 3 times because he has such simplistic ideas to try. I like using it as a reference for my own books. This is a go get book. It is only 79 pages packed with humor and the way the author did his own children's books.
Short, and not applicable to everyone or all stories, but a concise and frank account of how this author sold enough books to make a career of it, without relying on luck or the literary quality of the books.
Thank you for this book it is really helpful. God bless you and your family. Loved the book. Even just reading this book I can tell you're a good writer.
