After the near collapse of the city, Joanne and Jax find the opportunity they have been waiting for -- a witness willing to testify in court to save their father. They will have to act fast, because now the gravity-defying orb is working against them.
After publishing the first installment of DOWNCAST, readers were fascinated by the world, specifically, the city of Strata. So by popular demand, we are adding a written, documentary-style, story to the book. It will include a compilation of documents from the founding on Strata, first-hand experiences from historical figures, and some great illustrations.
Dystopia has always appealed to me. If I had to shoehorn my writing into one category, Dystopia would fit best. Even since I read "I am Legend" by Richard Matheson, I fell in love with the the question -- what if? Dystopia is all about answering that question.
Some people fantasize about magic and mythical creatures. I dream about strange politics and extraordinary people. I write fiction about the science of human nature, and of power, and of kindness. I write about new places, and old problems.
I'm a history nut, and a comic book connoisseur. I love listening to music and creating my own. I'm a University of Utah graduate of Mass Communication. I'm a clumsy gardener, a starving artist, a proud husband and father.
Mostly a Fall Review of the Clint Stoker Publishing paperback (2020)
Downcast: Wrize & Fall is the concluding chapter to the 2-part graphic novel series that began with Downcast (2019). I enjoyed the art work in the first chapter and the fact that the delivery goals of the crowd-funder were exceeded. The story did seem very thin though and there was much that was unexplained. I had hoped that the concluding book would provide more detail but it proved to be a letdown. There is even an additional text section which is supposedly there to fill in further back story but it is very weak as well.
The premise is good, a sister and brother duo work to free their father who has been unjustly condemned by the authorities of a floating city. The evil forces called the "Deadliners" are united under a character named Wrize who is himself condemned but who harnesses some sort of destructive powers granted to him by an unknown "Mother" force which is never properly explained. The art work continued to be well done in both the interior and cover work. But overall this is a 2 ie. "It was OK" due to the story disappointment (which also feels in some aspects to be "borrowed" from Alita: Battle Angel, at least in the sense of an elite city floating above an earth populated by regular humanity).
