Apparently, I’m an alien from another world, an emrys who can wield light. Just another truth kept from me. But at least I can fly and torch things.
As a shy girl who lives on a cliff, I have a completely normal life getting ready for college until, one night, an encounter in the woods changes me forever. Under a fae spell, I ignite my powers of light for the first time and meet Cystenian, an immortal Son of Light, who, I can’t decide, is either an angel or demon. Together, we pass through a portal to his world to flee from the fae and their magic.
Despite entering the other world, I wake up at home and discover the portal is closed and Cystenian’s gone. But the effects of the spell are unavoidable. I might even say life-altering. I’m determined to find a way back to Cystenian to discover who I really am and to learn how to use my awesome new powers. Unfortunately, Cystenian has secrets of his own, secrets compelling enough to make him wish he’d met me under different circumstances—or not at all.
Shattered is the first novel in the Lost Emrys Chronicles, an urban fantasy romance series. If you like a determined heroine, a dreamy angel-like immortal, and a portal adventure to a new world, then you’ll love this book by E.E. Everly.
E.E. EVERLY once trampled through the Appalachian woods and built forts in bramble bushes. She loves the sun in winter and the rain in summer. She believes in miracles, the power of love, and magic. Other worlds do exist, and her writing opens portals to them. Cake is always to be savored, and her soul animal is a cat. Meow.
This book wasn't exactly what I was expecting but it was still good! It's about a lonely girl who meets an "angel or demon" named Cystenian. She finds out what she is and who she is. This book is full of twists and turns, I liked it. Four stars. I wish it could have been a little more steamy.

Anerah finds herself running through the woods, barefoot and only a cami and shorts which don’t protect her from the scratches of branches she runs past. She doesn’t know why she is here, but she knows she must keep running. Her life depends on it. The ground fell away ahead of her – yet she raced for it and hurled herself over the edge! And then… fiery wings of light made of energy erupted from her back, spreading out, and lifting her up. Was this a dream? It didn’t feel like one but this could not be happening, could it? Then another burning fire, like her own “wings”, was flying toward her and she finally saw the fire was a male as he got closer. However, the male kept flying right at her, despite her screams, and he looked like an angel. Maybe she really had fallen to her death.
They crashed together, their wings disappeared, and his arms went around her as they hovered in the sky. She laughed and he said this was no laughing matter, and then they plummeted down headfirst. Now she thought she was going to hades and the orange flaming wings must have meant he was not an angel but was a demon. But she could not imagine what she had done so horrible in her life that she would be sent there. Had her jump, the one that must have killed her, been assumed to be suicide? Would that condemn her? Then he spoke again, saying “Do not fear. I have you, Daughter of Light. You are safe with me.” Huh?
Apparently she is magical, her powers ignited by a Fae spell in the woods that night. Cystenian, a Son of Light and an immortal, takes her through a portal to escape but when she wakes, she is at home. Was that a dream? There is no portal now. And Cystenian is also gone. She is going to need some answers. But can she find him again to ask the right questions? Where would she begin to look? Or doesn’t he really exist?
*Trigger there is a non-consensual sex scene (magical) but still there should be a warning in the book to make people aware of this as a Clinical Psychologist I just feel it should be there. This novel is wonderfully written about a young woman heading off to college. The evening before she is to leave fae cast a spell on her and she discovered that she had powers she had not known about, at the same time she meets a young man from her father’s home world and they past through a portal to his land. She wakes up the next day in her own bed with the portal closed and the young man is gone. Things are even more complicated as she has a baby girl. You really need to read this story lots to learn about. I received a complimentary copy of this novel from StoryOrigin , no positive review was required, and all opinions in this review are my own.
For me this book started out kind of fast paced but confusing. Even though we do get some explanations to things that have happened, those explanations don’t come until after a lot of things have already taken place. So the first 25% of the book I was trudging through. But things do pick and we do get a lot of answers and explanations. The world building was intriguing and different, as well as the aspects of light vs dark. The romance side was hard to read at times simply because you’ve got star crossed soulmates that can’t be together. Anerah was not going to give up Cystenian even though he kept trying to push her away. I don’t want to give anything anyway, but there’s so much emotional turmoil and angst in this book. It was a lot for a YA book. There is a lot going on in this book, but I feel like they gave us a good foundation to build on for the next book.
This is a confusing and contradictory review. The characters are great. The world building was fantastic. But I did not finish it. Not because the writing was bad or there were major editing issues. I couldn't finish it because of the extreme emotion it was evoking. Starting with the off scene non consensual sex scene. Doesn't matter if it was magic, it's still rape. 2 of 3 of Ms. Everly's books I have read now have had magical rape scenes. It bothers me greatly. There should probably be a trigger warning about this content. The amount of depression and anxiety I was feeling for Anerah was extreme and came to a point where I had to stop. I made it 3/5 the way through before it got to be too much. So it was a DNF for me, maybe because it was written too well.
Shattered begins decades after Catrin and Meuric get back from the past. Their children and grandchildren are the basis of this book. Anerah runs out in the middle of the night like someone is after her and jumps off the cliff by her house on Earth. Somehow, fiery wings appear and she is flying. She thinks she is dreaming and it only becomes more likely when she sees an angel with fiery dragon wings headed straight for her. Cystenian has walked out of Emira onto Earth and his new wings have just come into being as well. Both of their lives are forever changed on that night when they meet. I can't wait to read the next book when it comes out.
I just read this again and love it more every time. I just love how shattered Anerah is while trying to get Cystenian to see reason. She goes through a whirlwind of emotions. From her estranged father, who I really love, to her baby daddy, who she is fighting for. I love that this is a portal’s world, and Anerah starts out on Earth and moves to this new world. And she has awesome powers. I just love the whole thing. And the ending, whoa. I really hope the author gets the next book done soon!
Wow! How exciting this book was. Such a heartbreaking love story that really sucked me in. I absolutely loved this book but it sure was not a happy ending story. Poor Anerah sure went through a lot and her whole world changed in one night. She finds out that she has powers, is half-emrys and the fae tricks her into meeting Cystenian from another world. It goes on to her trying to figure out her powers and find Cystenian. What a wild adventures she goes through and keeps pressing on to be with him. I would highly recommend this book to everyone. You won’t be able to put it down.
Epic fantasy ,action and many twists and turns. Very fast paced . Starts of with the main character ready for school ,next she is in another world . Anerah and Cysterian go through a lot together and Anerah fulls in love. But there are secrets she does not know about. What are the secrets? What will happen next....... Get the book you will not be disappointed. I cannot wait till next book😊
I enjoyed this, although it started off a little confusing for me. Once I got further into the storyline it was interesting, I love the characters. I'm not sure how to pronounce the main male characters name, it's an unusual name. The storyline was new and different from everything else I've read, so that was exciting. It had alot of surprises that I didn't expect, but overall it was a really good read. I hope this has a sequel from bronwens P.O.V. She was such a great side character.
This book had me on the edge of my seat. I cannot wait to read the next book to see what happens with Anerah, Cystenian, Bronwen and Trysten. This book was action packed and full of family drama. There are actual battles for the light and dragons, fae, and more. I really enjoyed it. I just wish the book didn’t end so I could see what happens next.
I received this book as an advanced reader copy and I’m leaving this review voluntarily.
An excellent story. This is a very moving story. Being the child of a father from Emira was a very trying experience for Anerah growing up on Earth. It is even more so when she ends up on Emira with a new born baby girl. This story can be an emotional roller coaster as you read all Anerah goes through while there. I am ready to read the next part of her story in 'Scourged
This is a well written book with strong characters and an interesting storyline. The author pulls you in with all the action and romance and delivers an enjoyable story. It moves fluidly with her descriptive writing and kept me reading right to the end.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Original story . Unexpected subject but pleasantly surprised. She’s an alien and the Angel shows her who she is and aspires to be …until he’s gone and she’s back home wherever that should be though? Feeling lost and unbelonging she yearns for him and his teachings.

A well written story that kept me turning pages, it does end on a cliff-hanger. I want to read the next book. This is a new Author to me. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A romantic fantasy story involving the fae and and individual who doesn’t know they are an alien. A cute love story with interesting characters trying to find their way and learning about their super powers. An enjoyable romantic tale.
Wow, just wow! I need the next book in this series! Loved, loved, loved how this continues the world of the Emrys. I love that old characters surface. The storyline always keeps my attention. Thank you Everly for keeping this universe alive.

good combination of urban fantasy and paranormal romance. however, I think there should be a trigger warning for non-consensual sex scene (magical but still). the writing is good and the characters interesting but really needs the trigger warning for people it might bother.
This is a very emotional story. It takes you from very happy good feelings to dark areas. Without giving too much away. Anerah finds out she is magical, also finds out about portals and other beings like Cystenian. This is a love story with so many twists and turns you can’t put it down
