London Egypt connection
I assume this is written in the style (somewhat) of Arthur Conan Doyle, but with a modern take and the addition of four new characters to assist Holmes and Watson. The story is good and I would suggest this as a quick, light read.

In stressful times, there is nothing quite like getting lost in a good book. There is no doubt that these are stressful times, and there is no doubt that THE CURSE OF CLEOPATRA'S NEEDLE is a good book.
I started reading Sherlock Holmes stories as a child and always found them interesting. Apparently, so did a lot of other people… people like Anna Elliot and Charles Veley. This father and daughter team have done an admirable job of adding a bit of softness to that very logical detective, Sherlock Holmes, by providing him with more family than just Watson, Mrs. Hudson, and Lestrade. THE CURSE OF CLEOPATRA'S NEEDLE continues in the tradition of Conan Doyle's canonic tales, but, instead of only being told in Dr. Watson's voice, we hear from other family members as well.
THE CURSE OF CLEOPATRA'S NEEDLE is a case of murder with a dose of international intrigue. As is the expected case, the murder is resolved, and the culprits duly arrested and charged. A gallows fate surely awaits them. I expect we will see Mycroft Holmes again in a subsequent tale as the plot of revolutionaries remains unsettled.
Although the series, A Sherlock Holmes and Lucy James Mystery, does not follow one book upon another like a serial, I highly recommend that you begin your journey with the first book, THE LAST MORIARTY, in order to appreciate the progression from the usual characters - Holmes, Watson, Mrs. Hudson, and Lestrade - to the current extended family. Additionally, one book doesn't necessarily depend on the one that came before, but earlier books are referenced, and sometimes situations resolved, in subsequent tales.

Mystery with a bit of international intrigue and the usual, loved characters finding themselves in great danger... what is it here to not love?
A fun, fast reading story that still manages to be a great mystery.
As always, Simon Prebble& Mary Jane Wells have done a great job with the narration.

Perfectly done for a short one.
As usual both authors Anna Elliott & Charles Veley know what they are doing, know how to research, create a good mystery and beautifully put it onto paper.

Another quick addition to the Lucy James Mysteries (either book 22 or 8.5 depending on who is counting) … and as a whole I recommend the series. They don’t need to be read in any order; however, I started with Remember, Remember, then the Last Moriarty and worked well for me. Although the series introduces Lucy as a previously unknown love child of Holmes, eventually we get a much larger cast of characters all connected to Sherlock in some fashion (such as Lucy’s Husband Jack and his little sister Becky) … giving Sherlock a relatively minor role in most of the short stories.
This mystery revolves around a murder of a lady by her husband … but Holmes is not convinced. With a does of international intrigue tied into a subversive group linked to Egypt (hence the reference to Cleopatra). Overall it was a fun mystery with a few twists to keep it interesting … solving the murder while leaving a few loose ends for later stories (potentially). The excellent narration pushes this review to 4*.

I’ve always loved the Sherlock Holmes canon and I’ve read many books about it besides the original Doyle novels. This series has about 40 volumes but some are not available for unknown reasons. I’m enjoying them and after the first 25% now read, I feel like I know the characters well. Holmes and Watson are fairly intact but Lucy and Jack are really starting to burgeon with personality. Becky and Flynn are adorable.
The only criticism I can make is that there are too many kidnappings, hostage situations and the like. One in practically every volume. Well, on to the next…

A fun series
This series continues to deliver a fun fast read. You do not have to read in order. This series has great attention to details with the London setting and all you would except of that time. In addition to Holmes and Watson this series has added in Holmes daughter Lucy her husband Jack and his little sister Becky. This makes for a fun cast with a story full of twists and turns with the ending a surprise. I look forward to reading more in the series.

Should be a 3.5- again all the crew, S Holmes, Watson, Lucy, Jack, Flynn and Becky make this a really good one. There is a connection to politics, an evil group and murder- the story is another thrilling one.

excellent read
Charles and Anna did it again an excellent mystery where all the clues are provided and your own ability at deduction is tested. I enjoy this entire set of stories. It’s like reading Doyle himself but with 3 additional main characters.

August 25, 2026This walked the line between sympathy for Egyptians under British rule and expressing the prejudices of the people who lived at the time. It’s a good little mystery, but mostly it’s the personal relationships that matter in this series.

I enjoyed the historical elements of this story, although of course it is a work of fiction. The author does try to expose the darker side of British colonialism.
