A Quick, Fast-paced and Thrilling experience, although with plot holes

Insomnia is exactly as the author Ravi Subramanian describes in his foreword as extremely fast paced and without a dull moment. Definitely, no dull moments throughout the novel except in the climax part.
A police station in Mumbai receives a distress call during the wee hours wherein Rohit informs the officers on duty, Meera that his wife, Tanvi is trying to kill him and thus starts a fast paced thriller!
The Plot
The book starts really well and really keeps the reader engaged and doesn't take time to establish the plot however as the book is about to end the plot takes a U-turn and in an attempt to deliver something different, the author crash lands the plane.
Unfortunately, I found the ending a bit unconvincing or rather loaded with holes.
Writing and Characterization
Perfect example of how a failed plot changes everything about a book you're really enjoying. All the Chapters in the book are extremely fast paced and not a single laggy moment.
Since this is a Novella, the author doesn't waste too much time in history instead He gives us a perfect glimpse of the character with respect to the current situation however Tanvi's character which is so important to the story is so underdeveloped, zero dialogues is quite unfortunate. It has a lot to say but it's sadly zipped.
Climax
At around 95%, it comes like a hurricane destroying everything in it's path! Everything was great until the last part and leaves the reader devasted. It's definately unpredictable but unconvincing as well.
It's an Ok mystery and could have been a lot better if not for a non-substantial plot.

As the series name suggest, this is a short story.
The plot is set in Mumbai.
Its about a schizophrenic wife, who sleep-walks and wants to kill her husband.
It is difficult to pack thriller and suspense in few pages and the author has managed to pack both + few more.

Pacy one time read
It is an ok read, don't expect too much.
A pacy, quick read to pass time.
The plot is stretched thin in some places. It makes you wonder what the author was thinking! Sudden jumps snd wierd turns. Flow is a bit cramped...can be read if you are bored out of your mind and want to just day dream while your eyes are focused on something...

Insomnia is a short thriller of only 157 pages. I downloaded this book free from kindle thanks to @westland_books. As I am huge thriller fan and I definitely don't regret choosing it.
The story starts with officer Meera receiving a phone call from a person who says his wife is about to kill him but when she reaches there she finds no one. Aditya another officer supports her in investigating further and both of them discover that the husband is Rohit whose wife Tanvi is a mental patient and in one of her fits she tried to stab him. This incident has caused Rohit to suffer from insomnia but he is unwilling to put his wife in asylum as he loves her deeply.
When they begin investigation lot of interesting stuff comes up but there's something that quite doesn't catch their eye even though it is there. Meanwhile Aditya and Meera develop a romantic relationship and he has his own past trauma to deal with
The story is no doubt gripping and talking about the climax I could only guess half of it and other part was unexpected. The writing is smooth and though some parts of the story didn't feel realistic. I am also not sure the message the book gave at the end of the book.
For someone who wish to read a short thriller or looking to get out of the slump this book is a good choice. It is fast-paced and you will complete it in a day.

This book literally blew my mind! It kept me guessing throughout the pages. The twists and the turns are really unexpected and makes you want to read the book in one go. The book revolves around Police officers Aditya and Meera. With few characters the book is well written high octane thriller. The language of the book is simple. The cover of the book is apt. Overall, a fast pace, excellent book. Highly recommend.

A fast- paced novel with a weak protagonist.
The novel has a fast pace and engaging storyline. However, I felt the protagonist, Inspector Aditya's character was weakly developed. He was supposed to be a bright police officer and yet could not figure out the truth that was facing him all along the story. The ending was partly shocking, and yet, not entirely satisfactory. The novel had much more potential for development.

The story was decent but the narration fell bit flat and the ending rushed. Could've done more with the story development and restricted the character explanation. It is a one time fast paced read if you opt to.

22nd Book of 2021
There are few authors for whom you are so crazy that you see them in dreams releasing their new novel. Ravi Subramanian is one such author for me. The thriller genre was introduced to me through his books only. I am very glad that his books had complex plots but easy writing which made it smooth for me to get into the world of thrillers. After writing many books on banking thrillers, he finally introduced a concept named “Shortz Thrills Uninterrupted” where he is writing short thriller stories with co-writers. Jigs Ashar is the first one to get associated with him. I am just done reading the 1st book of this concept named “Insomnia: Keep your eyes open” which is published by Westland Publication in around 157 pages.
The writing style of this book is very easy and simple. If anyone of you who are looking out for an easy thriller to start your journey into this genre can blindly pick this book up. It is going to help you enjoy the same and get confidence of reading more of it. The book is divided into very short chapters of around 1 or 2 pages only. The book isn’t a usual thriller where the murder happens in the very first scene and then the investigation takes place throughout to find the culprit. Here, the police officers are introduced with a couple- Husband and Wife where husband is being troubled by his wife who keeps of attacking him violently due to her sleep-walking issues. Police starts going through the concern between the couple right from the beginning and then a tragic incident happens in front of one of the Investigating Police officers. This makes the thrilling aspect of the book alive once again.
The characters of the Police officers, Aditya and Meera are interesting. The chemistry between both the officers is delighting to read. I liked the parallel story running which mentions the developing relationship of both the officers. Rohit’s character has been given the most importance in this story. His reactions to his wife’s torture are nicely displayed throughout the story and his concern over his future yet his love for his wife is beautifully portrayed. It all looks relevant up to a point. I liked the way author has also assured that the locale and vibes of Mumbai is conveyed in whatever space he had in this short book.
The dialogues and conversations between both- Meera and Aditya are something to look forward to. They are intelligent as well as romantic at times. You can feel the vibes between them. The book starts with a bang when Meera enters the scene right in the initial scenes itself. The later entry of Aditya also does magic as he has been shown as a smart and eligible bachelor kind of a Police officer; and his character is still written as very soothing and calming. There is a suspense in the initial part of the book. You just end up thinking what will happen between the couple later on and what will Police do as they are in the picture right from the beginning. It is a light read which you can complete within 3-4 hours easily.
Now, talking about the drawbacks, the 1st thing I would like to mention is the irrelevancy of the plot and unconvincing thrilling aspect in the climax. It is something that doesn’t sound acceptable at all nor does it make you jump off knowing what was happening in the back end. Somewhere in the middle of the book, you get vibes that something is wrong as everything can’t flow in the linear manner without interruptions for a long time in a thriller book. The characters are also quite under-developed because Tanvi is not given a single dialogue even when Police is in their house multiple times for investigation. How is it even possible in the real world that Police won’t interrogate with one of the prime suspects at all? Lastly, I must say that the book doesn’t have a very nice narration. It keeps on confusing you because the moment you get involved with any scene, it ends and the next one begins. I believe even if short, the story could have been managed a lot better.
Overall, I would strictly recommend it to the beginners. It doesn’t have the Ravi Subramanian vibes at all. Jigs Ashar’s efforts are appreciated as he is not very old in the genre still there is a spark of thriller in his writing, undoubtedly. I give this book an average - 3 stars out of 5.

*My Thoughts As A Reader:*
Being an avid reader, I have read several fiction and thriller novels. As I started reading the book, I found myself engrossed in the plot, such that I could determine the killer at any moment in the upcoming chapters. But I could only identify the half of it. By half, I mean the plot twisted in the end, and my guess went incomplete.
So, I must say the author brought the whole story into this book is intriguing. I guess this was the fastest read of my this year to date as I could not resist knowing what happened next. In this book, you will read fifty-six short chapters that lead to the thrill, mystery, crime, and murder. I was awestruck when I realized who the murderer was in the last chapter and how a person could be opportunist enough to give way to greed over dreams.
The overall experience of reading this book has been worth investing time in. I loved the plot as the author assured keeping only the required details that complete the story without leaving readers hanging to find out what might have happened. The best part is the short chapters. I feel so as I proceed chapter by chapter quickly, not realizing how far I had read and reached the end.
This book won’t disappoint you. Give it a try, and you will thank me later for recommending this book.

Engaging Suspense Thriller
A fantastic and well-written suspense cliff-hanger that is fast-paced and keeps the reader hooked on to know the finale. There are not too many characters to confuse the plot. The name of the protagonist Aditya and a tinge of a financial twist on the plot are quite synonymous with many of Ravi Subramanian's writings. Being mentored by the king of financial thrillers, the plot does not fail to meet the expectations of the reader. The storyline does not deviate from its core composition and the suspense is not revealed until the very end, which makes it more intriguing. Unlike reading novels running into 300+ pages, this T20 format of crime novels can be a trendsetter in the future, as it can be completed in one sitting in a span of 90-120 minutes, a typical time taken by people during a short intercity journey and the reader does not lose track of the plot with intermittent halts in between. Overall an engaging novel by Jigs Asher and a recommended read for all. Hoping to see this new trend take-off with more such debutant authors with creative plots and mentored by leading authors in crime, thriller, and mystery. All the Best to Jigs Asher for future endeavors.

Shortz .. as the name suggests is a small book
The book is a thriller based in Mumbai and written by Ravi Subramanian whom i have read before and like his style of writing . This book revolves around the Mumbai Police .
They receive a phone call in the middle of the night and what follows is a roller coaster ride . It is a page turner and a little scary at times . The 2 main characters are police officers who engage with the caller and try to solve his conundrum over the next few months .
There are multiple phone calls by the caller and each time the police end up visiting the callers house trying to help him . A big corporation with high valuation , a dead owner and his daughter and her husband ... the story has everything to keep it interesting .

Insomnia : Keep your eyes open (shortz)
Book review
A police officer (Meera) receives a distress call in the wee hours of night from a man (Rohit) saying that his scrizophenic wife (Tanvi) is trying to kill him.
What happens next is what this fast paced thriller is all about. There is no single dull moment in the book.
It's a short novel which can easily be finished in a single sitting. Author @ravisubramanian70 and @jigsashar have written an engaging book that definately leaves you wanting for more. The entire plot is crisp except for the climax which is a little disappointing and unconvincing. Leaving that aside it's a well written novel and can be read if crime thriller is your thing.

Book review
A police officer (Meera) receives a distress call in the wee hours of night from a man (Rohit) saying that his scrizophenic wife (Tanvi) is trying to kill him.
What happens next is what this fast paced thriller is all about. There is no single dull moment in the book.
It's a short novel which can easily be finished in a single sitting. Author @ravisubramanian70 and @jigsashar have written an engaging book that definately leaves you wanting for more. The entire plot is crisp except for the climax which is a little disappointing and unconvincing. Leaving that aside it's a well written novel and can be read if crime thriller is your thing.

This is a short fiction book and a quick read with a good story line and suspense filled in for every chapter.
As the author said at the beginning there isn't any single boring page in this book, every chapter will convince you to know what is going to happen next.
The story plot is in and around Mumbai, I can easily relate to the places authors referring to. The narration is sooo good.
I didn't expect what Meera has done, sad to see what happened to a sincere police officer - ALWAYS KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN - you never know what is going to happen.
A good thriller and a crime story - can surely read once if you are looking for some thriller in a crime genre.

You can always rely on Ravi Subramanian to provide a wonderful thriller.
Jigs Ashar joins hands with Ravi here for this thriller in the first of the Shortz series.
The plot is nicely paced, language is also good, the thrills building up as you turn the pages. Somewhat predictable as you come closer to the end but reader is kept guessing for a long time within the plot.
Overall crisp, to the point plot, only drawback ( if you can call it drawback) is its length at 155 pages it ends too soon within couple of hours. Maybe that is the reason the name Shortz.
Overall good reading though a quicky.

Book 35 of 2020 - Insomnia by Ravi Subramanian and Jigs Ashar. Yet another piece of brilliance in the Shortz series. I really had goosebumps towards and end and realised only after I closed the book that I was actually holding my breath!!! A thriller that is truly a page turner! Read it to believe it :) What a book!

A fantastic and well-written suspense cliff-hanger that is fast-paced and keeps the reader hooked on to know the finale. There are not too many characters to confuse the plot.
The storyline does not deviate from its core composition and the suspense is not revealed until the very end, which makes it more intriguing.
It can be completed in one sitting in a span of 90-120 minutes.
So it's a win-win.
I am personally very happy reading this. It kept me intrigued.

The story begins when Meera Dixit, Assistant Superintendent of Police, receives an anonymous call for help at 1 a.m. She begins to investigate the case alongside Aditya Sachdev. Turns out, the anonymous caller was Rohit, who claimed that his wife was going to kill him and he needs to be protected. Meera and Aditya’s investigation reveals many mysteries revolving around Tanvi (Rohit’s wife) and her family business. But, Why does Tanvi really want to kill Rohit?

Short , Fast paced thriller with nice plot
i was really enjoying the book as the narration of entire book was heading in great direction and story was keeping on edges but it didn't ended well. Personally didn't liked the climax had more expectation as the way story was built.

A wonderful short read. Pick it up when you want to finish a book in 1 sitting.
I did predict a part of how the book would end but did not see a twist coming.
I recommend this book to everyone who wants to read a slick, to the point, Indian crime novel.
I give it 4/5 stars as I predicted a part of the ending from the onset of the book.

किताब में रोहित अपनी पत्नी तन्वी से काफी परेशान रहता हैं क्यूंकि उसकी पत्नी उसे मारना चाहती हैं, इसी के आस-पास पूरी कहानी लिखी गई हैं.
मैने रवि की लगभग सभी किताबें पढ़ी हैं लेकिन ये किताब बहुत ही एवरेज निकली, किसी भी करैक्टर से कनेक्ट नहीं हो पाया....shortz का ये एक्सपेरिमेंट बिल्कुल बेकार हैं क्यूंकि कंटेंट में दम ही नहीं हैं👎👎👎

I was in the mood for exactly this kind of a book - a short and gripping read. As mentioned by the author himself, there is not a single chapter in which the story doesn't move forward. Plus, it's a short read which you can finish in a single sitting. About the story, it was quite a page-turner and I enjoyed it.

Disappointed thoroughly! Was excited to read Ravi Subramanian after a long and expected much better than this, for the book carrying his name ( though it's not written by him).

Good and racy read
Initially, I didn't like the idea of Shorts. Felt like I was missing the complete volume and reading the summary. But, as pages progressed, I got used to the idea and it was a racy read. Good one with a nice twist at the end.

As usual Ravi Subramanian books are too good.
The plot is so intriguing that kept aside everything to complete reading in one go.
Aditya your sincerity is appreciated and you didn't deserve that treatment from Meera. Very disappointed that Gokhale also didn't see this coming against you.
