Arise is a study of the book of Nehemiah! This 5 week in-depth study walks verse by verse through the book of Nehemiah.

The book of Nehemiah is a timeless retelling of a faithful God and His people. It is a story of God’s sovereignty and the power of prayer. It is a story of perseverance and trust in a covenant-keeping God. The book of Nehemiah reminds us our great need for deliverance and points us to our Great God. The book of Nehemiah is a book of gospel-hope.

Each week contains 5 days of commentary and study questions that walk verse by verse through the text. There is then one day as a memory verse day, and one day dedicated to a weekly reflection section that asks questions to help you reflect and dig deeper into the text.

Arise: A Study on the Book of Nehemiah by Kristin Schmucker has been the subject of my small group at church the last few weeks. I was so encouraged in the fact that prayer to God should be our go-to for every decision, big and small. Nehemiah was adamant about that point in his own life and God blessed him for it. Also, obedience to the Lord at every turn without hesitation and then waiting on the Lord. His timing is always perfect. If you or your small group are looking for inspiration, this study will be quite fulfilling.

Part of a group study (we took about twice as long as the study was designed for to allow more discussion). I had never really studied Nehemiah, and definitely had never thought of him as a forerunner of Jesus. I really appreciated the insightful commentary and probing questions for each section, but the repetitive weekly questions weren't as impactful (I understand the author is trying to provide a solid framework to study the Word, and encourage us to to habitually ask about application, but the very general questions are odd after digging so deeply)

Technically, I finished this study a while ago, but have been reflecting on it for the past couple of weeks while traveling.
The book of Nehemiah is one that I have never studied or read through on my own. I truthfully didn’t even know the general story of Nehemiah.
I’ve not only gotten a deeper depth of this book of the Bible, but also insight to powerful prayer, preparation, and leadership. This is a great study and I love the structure!

This was a lovely little Bible Study workbook to use in my daily quiet time. It broke down Nehemiah into daily reading with a passage to explain it further and questions to help you process and learn.
I gave it four stars because while most of the questions were great and thought provoking, some were such basic Sunday School questions that I didn’t even want to write and answer.
