This four week study takes an in-depth look at the book of Jonah. The story of Jonah is about so much more than a big fish. In this minor prophet, God reveals Himself to be a God who is merciful and compassionate. He pursues the outsider to welcome him into His family, and He goes to great lengths to sanctify His own.⠀
I love the book of Jonah so, so much & this bible study went in such great depth & detail into Jonah's story. God's mercy is truly something to be thankful for every day & I loved that there were cross-references included & historical context given surrounding Jonah's background and upbringing.
Great study!!! I’ve studied Jonah several times, but this study highlighted aspects and gospel connections I never noticed before. A wonderful reminder of God’s mercy towards sinners and His children, no matter how far they’ve strayed or how grateful they’ve become. Definitely recommend this study.
I loved this study on the book of Jonah. The insight of both Scriptural and historical context was wonderful and I learned or was reminded of many things. But most importantly this study continually pointed towards Christ and the Gospel message, that God's judgment and mercy meet fully at the cross in Jesus Christ. He has taken every sin and judgment upon himself so that we may experience God's salvation in full. Every day I found myself pondering deeply about the character of God. I have a much greater understanding on God's connection to all our lives, his creation, and his desire that all would be saved. This Bible study also makes interesting points on the topics of anger, mercy, God's power, and His abounding love.
On a practical note, the daily readings were a perfect amount to have enough to think upon and yet short enough to easily fit into the schedule. Very good for personal reflection or maybe for a couple, but would need to be tweaked for larger group use.
I will not take any stars off for this (because the Gospel reminders and the continually Scripture references were on point, which is what I really look for in Bible study), but I do wish some of the questions were a little more thought provoking. Some were great, but at least 1 out of the 3 questions (if not more for some days) for a day's reading was a bit flat. The devotionals were so insightful that not having great questions didn't make or break it for me, yet I cant help but to think it would have been even that much greater if it had top notch questions too.
Mercy in the Storm is a Bible study by Daily Grace Co. on the book of Jonah. I really enjoyed this study of a well known Bible story that has a lot more depth than it initially seems. There are many parallels drawn between Jonah and Jesus and how the book of Jonah points to the coming Savior. I had always thought of Jonah as a whiny, selfish character but while studying I realized that we have all been Jonah at one point or another. Sometimes we have turned away and chosen our own path over God's. We have felt deserving of good things in our lives even though we weren't. We have thrown a fit when things feel unfair. And we may have even felt that our good deeds were better than someone else's and that they don't deserve the same grace that we do. Jonah is relatable because he represents all of our human imperfections due to our fallen state. But the wonderful thing about the book of Jonah is God's mercy and compassion in spite of all of those things. God continually pursues Jonah even when he is least deserving and He does the same for all of us. I highly recommend this study for anyone who thinks God's compassion doesn't extend to them or anyone looking to understand the book of Jonah on a deeper level.
This book helped me to slow down and really meditate verse by verse on the story of Jonah. I read Jonah multiple times before, but by dwelling and journaling through it over multiple weeks I was able to see myself in much deeper ways in Jonah’s life which pushed me to examine my heart from many different angles seeing struggles I knew of and some I didn’t. This devotional prompted day after day to see what God revealed about His character through the book of Jonah, guiding us to know Him deeper, see how far we’ve fallen, and to walk in light of His glory and grace.
I used to think of Jonah as just being a “teaching” story for kids. Listen to God, listen to your parents, etc. or suffer consequences. And at the most basic level, it is that. But this study offered a much more in depth picture of the book of Jonah and just really dove deep into only four chapters. I feel like I really got “the point” of Jonah this time around. I loved the structure and the videos that went along with it. This was a great study.
Whoops! I realized I never marked this book as finished… But it was SOOO good. I highly recommend these studies from Daily Grace Co. if you’re interested in getting deeper into scripture, especially individual books of the Bible! Jonah’s story was one I thought I knew pretty well already. However, there is so much context and literary tools used to relay deeper meanings. This took me longer to complete because I lost the study for a short time. I was so glad I found it so I could finish it!
Jonah is a story most people know. I knew it on the surface level. After this study, which breaks apart the book of Jonah in tiny chunks, I have a whole new understanding of the deeper meaning behind this book. This study is an excellent resource for diving in and getting to the message behind this short book of the Bible.
A beautiful study of the book of Jonah. This study takes a deep dive into the literary devices used in Jonah, into the mercy and sovereignty of God, and into comparisons and contrasts between Jonah and Jesus (Jesus is, by far, the better Jonah!).
