The Sworne arrive in Kander’s airspace and demand only one thing; the surrender of all Earthlings for termination. Upon Kal’s refusal, fighting ensues and hostages are taken on both sides until Kal and Charlie win the skirmish, forcing a ceasefire. The Sworne offer an exchange of hostages, a trade of resources, and a promise to depart the solar system, if the Sworne keep their word.
Charlie and Kal accept that they’re not prepared to challenge their enemy today, needing time to obtain more weapons and allies for the impending war. Together, they lay plans to prepare Kander for war including seeking allies. They are left with one worrisome will an alliance with Serrato Corps be a necessary evil?

Like a Calling is a 106,000-word, third-person, sci-fi F/F romance Omegaverse novel. It is the fifth book in The Alpha God series. It contains g!p material* as well as intimate scenes suitable for mature readers. This book does have a cliffhanger and plot twists that carry throughout the series. G!P content. No rape. No cheating. No shifters. No fempreg. But plenty of plot.
*See the author’s blog for more details about g!p, fempreg, and other related terms.
Lexa Luthor is an avid writer and reader of the Omegaverse trope especially including F/F pairing. In her books, each main character(s) is a strong-willed female, who navigates difficult situations but always ends up finding love with their mate. Every tale has a twist and is gripping, sexy, and even a bit adventurous.
When not writing, Lexa enjoys binge watching television shows like Game of Thrones, Gentleman Jack, or The L Word. Her other favorite hobbies are playing cornhole, rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs, and laying around the pool in the summer. At times, Lexa finds time to read romances (both dark and fluffy) and great sci-fi books but nothing else can beat a steamy, downright erotic F/F romance with biting, knotting, and slightly possessive love.

4.25 stars. I’m always looking forward to a new book in this series and they have never disappointed me, this one included! This book was a bit less action packed than some of the previous books, but that does not mean it was less interesting. Kal, Charlie, Raine, Dorlon, Andren and others are plotting and preparing for a big war with a particularly nasty enemy. That’s all I’m going to say to prevent spoilers ;) Ow, and Zodiac pack forever (you’ll understand when you read it).
This series needs to be read in order and for those who don’t know the series, it’s sci-fi, it’s erotica, it’s f/f omegaverse (including g!p content). Don’t know what this means? Then I advise to check Luthor’s blog here, which explains in detail what you can expect. I always mention this, as this particular trope is not for everybody. For those that are familiar with the series, but haven’t signed up to Luthor’s newsletter I recommend to do this. You get access to ‘I, Alpha’ and ‘I, Finna’ for free and besides getting some awesome free stories, details from ‘I, Finna’ play a role in this book.
I keep being amazed by how the relationship between Charlie and Kal is still evolving. They are getting more comfortable together and keep learning new things about their bond and Kal’s bond to Kalatas and there is clearly still enough left to be explored in future books. The sex scenes are steaming hot as can be expected, but like their relationship, they are also more intimate and sweeter than in previous books.
It ends with the usual cliffhanger and the only thing I can say about that is; I’m very happy that Luthor is a fast writer and the next book has already been announced!
One more thing, I WANT A LOCKE! I’m absolutely in love with Kaden, had to make some sketches. So, here they are for all Kaden fans ;)
I absolutely adore this series. Kal and Charlie are deeply embedded in my heart. I can’t get enough of Kal, Charlie, and their ever deepening relationship. I love the concept of true mates and that Sumner felt it from the first time they met. The sex and the mating only gets hotter as their feelings and the closeness between them deepen. I really enjoy the growing level of playfulness between them as well. My nerdy side also loves learning more of Kandar, Kalatas, Kalmar History, the new and different tech, and the things Kal is able to do while channeling the spirit of Kalatas. I really enjoy the budding feelings developing between Andren and Raine. Possible two of my favorite side characters of the series. Kaden is my spirit animal! I laughed with the naming of the Zodiac Pack. It’s awesome and I love it. My heart warms with Charlie’s repair to her relationships with the friends and family she had left behind. My heart cries when she loses someone she loves and cares for. We finally get to met the sworne, the assholes. They are early and up to no good. I can’t believe what they did to the beloved general. Such a big blow to those that knew her and to my heart. What are they up to with this fleet and the Darakar they traded for. I hope Charlie and Sumner are able to gain the allies they seek and then true give the sworne the thrashing they deserve. The book ends with another jaw dropping, heart clinching, cliffhanger. What does this mean for Kal, Sumner, and Charlie? Is it temporary? Will Kal return when Sumner is back on Kandar? I’m so mixed up inside and need book 6 My Everything like yesterday!!!!

One of the main reasons I’m giving this 5 stars is because Luthor continues to keep me engaged throughout this series as we see Kal/Sumner and Charlie’s relationship strengthen and grow. Five books in and I’m so invested in the story, I’ve even gotten over my hatred for cliff hangers. ;) And boy, is it a doozy in this one. The only thing consoling me at the end of this book is that no. 6 is on the way later this year, and I so can’t wait to read it!
Like I said in my book 1 review, this won’t be everyone’s cup of tea due to certain themes in the Omegaverse trope, but if you’re curious (like I was) or are an Omegaverse aficionado - then give this series a go!
The biggest five stars I have ever given a book!!!
(I need a few days to compose myself to write a review though because I have far too many feelings right now.)
OK, I'm back. I don't know where to start! I'm completely in awe of Lexa's books; not only are they hot as all hell (I need to get me one of those Alphas! And a cold shower!), they are brilliantly written, so much so that at one point in this book, I wanted to cry and throw up at the same time because a scene physically took the wind right out of me! I've hidden this review because this is the spoiler, but if you're read it already, you'll know... chapter 14 and Melissa?? Holy moly! I'm still recovering! It was so brutal, and evil, and the imagery of it punched me right in the gut. It's hauntingly terrifying and I had to read it about three times because I just couldn't believe it. I had very powerful feelings about it, and I'm still trying to get my head around it, lol. It's the mark of a wonderful author when they can invoke such a strong reaction! The whole Alpha God series is INCREDIBLE and the author has just shot to the top spot for one of my favourite authors of all time! THAT'S HOW GOOD THEY ARE! I can't recommend highly enough! Even if you've never read sci-fi before (I hadn't before this series), take a chance on this!
And the cliffhanger? Ahh, the wait for the next one is gonna' be long and painful, lol! But OMG, I know it's going to be worth it. I can't wait! I will devour anything and everything this author writes. I apologise that I'm fangirling right now, and I'm notoriously bad at reviews, but this book is AMAZING! Seriously! (I apologise for the amount of exclamation marks... !)
Amazing plot with twists and turns, characters that you fall in love with, the hottest, sexiest High Commander of any race, on any planet, anywhere in the solar system, plus some of the hottest scenes I've ever read (and I write erotica!) I would give this all the stars!! ALL OF THEM!!

I find it hard to write a review about "Like a Calling”, without giving away spoilers. So all I can say is that the whole Alpha God series is intense and scary good. With her writing, Lexa Luthor managed to draw you right in the story. With every installment, the characters continues to grow and evolve in amazing ways. The writing is solid, inventive and wow, the sex scenes are incredible hot. I am a newcomer to the world of the F/F Omegaverse and at first I thought, this is not really my thing. Now, after binge-reading The Alpha God series, I can't get enough. If you are unfamiliar with the F/F Omegaverse trope and the therms, I advise you to read the explanation on the author's website. It really contributes to your reading pleasure. One more thing, the ending is a brilliant cliffhanger. Despite the latter, I can highly recommend the whole series.
With this series you really need to start with book one or you will be so lost. If you are a fan of the series then you will want read this, however I would say this is not one of my favs. However, I would say that this is an important bridge book to the next major development in Charlie and Kal/Sumner's relationship, that is dropped like a bomb in the last few pages. I can't wait for book 6 - I have already pre-ordered it.
Lexa is killing me!! What a book!!! This serie keeps getting better and better. And that cliffhanger...omg.
And the sex also keeps getting hotter and hotter 🔥🔥🔥😈😈😈😈😈🔥🔥😈🔥. You think you had it all, but no here comes another hotter scene. My kink got what it deserved.
So now the waiting starts for final book 6. It already feels like I’m waiting forever 😁
A very exciting story that just keeps getting better. I love a book series that continues with the same characters. I am invested in the lives of these characters. I highly recommend this book and this author.
OMG - you must read this series!! It's very hard to write a review on each book because I don't want to give anything away. And if I write about the specifics, I'll have to label it with spoilers and folks won't want to read the review..... so I will leave you with this -
Lexa Luthor is an amazing author! In fact, with her writing style, she has easily become one of my favorites. Yes, the sex scenes are a little different but always super hot. I didn't even know I was into this stuff......until I read it. *eyes wide* Now, if you are absolutely not into it you could skip past those scenes and still enjoy the incredible story line. Yes, the intimate scenes help establish the trust and love shared between the two main characters but the action scenes and alternate story lines are done so well they can stand alone.
Look, if Kal (the "Alpha God") was a man (or maybe even a traditional lesbian), the Alpha God series could easily be some sort of Netflix original and people would eat it up. It is just that good!!!
The latest edition to Kal and Charlie’s story has captivated me once more. It took me two days to read, if I hadn’t had to work I would have read it all in one. The passion, the story, the love in this tale leaves me wanting more. I have already preordered the next book.
This series continues to get better and better with each book. Lexa Luthor is Mistress of Cliff Hangers and I can’t wait for the next chapter in the story of Kal and Charlie.
Hot, spicy, and so so sexy. With just enough drama and action to keep it fun and interesting. Love the characters and the little flashbacks here and there.
This series gets even better with each need book (and each previous book has been a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ book imho). I’m at the edge of my seat reading about Kal and Charlie and their fight to save The planet and beat the Sworne. The world building is awesome and Lexa is the Ultimate at writing cliffhangers ( no spoilers from me). I’m patiently, okay maybe not patiently, awaiting book 6’s delivery to my kindle. I highly recommend this series, but do yourself a favor and start at book 1 you won’t be disappointed.
I loved this book and every moment of it! If you enjoyed the previous books, you will enjoy this one just as much.
Ended on another cliffhanger, and I can't wait to read what will happen in the next book. (I also believe the next book to be the last one...? I hope the author treats us to another short story in between though :D )
That cliffhanger had me scrolling to the next book so fast on my kindle app, I almost scratched my phone.
CHARACTER IMPRESSIONS: Charlie I loved reading about how Charlie is starting to think about her future in this story. Being a merc for most of her adult life didn’t give her a chance to think about what or who she wanted because she knew she could die anytime, but the idea of having forever with Kal is making her change how she approaches danger, making her just a tiny bit less reckless.
On the topic of thinking about her future, Charlie even contemplates having a child with Kal, and as much as I would love for that to happen, Charlie’s smarter than me and knows her hypothetical child would be hunted down not just for being a hybrid, but for being the child of the High Commander. Maybe she and Kal will revisit this subject when the sworne are taken care of.
Kal / Sumner I feel like I don’t talk about Kal enough in my reviews (I blame Andren for stealing my attention), but Kal truly is one of the most competent love interests I’ve ever read. She’s not just powerful in physique but in mind as well, shown by her careful planning to take down the sworne.
I love how protective she is of Charlie, but also how much she dotes on her partner. With Charlie being so used to not relying on anyone, it’s endearing to see how Kal doesn’t hesitate to give Charlie gifts, show her affection, and reassure Charlie whenever Charlie is in doubt.
The cliffhanger ending made me wonder so many things because she’s left at a huge disadvantage at the end of the story. I can’t wait to see how she handles whatever conflict is in store in the next book.
MINOR CHARACTERS: Andren has always been my favorite, but she’s even more lovable in this story because more of her personality is shown. It’s so fun to see her lower her serious soldier behavior and become loose around Charlie and Raine, even to the point she’s making fun of them in front of Kal. I hope to see more of it.
Raine is freaking hilarious as always and I love her banter with Charlie. It’s nice to see her geeky side come out when Kal puts her in charge of an important project. I know I’ve been shouting from the rooftops for her to get with Dorlon, but the person she’s hinted at actually having feelings for is just as good and I can’t wait for her and Raine to get together, hopefully soon in the next book.
I still love Dorlon. There’s never enough of her because she’s always working whether on or off page. Fortunately, there’s a more emotional side to her that’s shown in this book when she does appear. We finally get to see why she’s been so distant and how she really felt about Raine and Charlie losing touch with her when they were younger. That scene just made me want to hug her.
Tas is interesting even though she’s not in the story much. I wonder if she’s going to play a bigger role in the later novels.
STORY IMPRESSIONS: That first fight with the sworne was badass, and it’s just against a small scouting party, so I can’t even imagine what it’d be like for the heroines to go against an army of sworne.
It’s hinted that there’s something bigger than the sworne going on, and when Kal points out who/what might actually be behind all this conflict, my mind was blown. I can’t wait to see what it all means or how it unfolds.
I only have one gripe about the story and it’s that the timeline of Charlie’s past is kind of confusing. There’s a scene where she’s explaining gender identity and Pride, as in gay pride parades, to Andren and I couldn’t help but wonder how she knows this when she had to leave Earth at five years old. She worked on the Liberator, then farmed on Kander, before leaving to be a merc for most of her adult life, so am I just thinking too much about when she had time to learn about Earth customs? I dunno. It’s not important, but it stuck out to me.
Anyhow. One of the best scenes by far has to be the “dinner with friends” scene because it was so wholesome. Charlie was surrounded by her lover and friends after the tragic death of another character, so it was lovely to see them all together to enjoy a meal and remember their fallen friend. Charlie swears revenge on the sworne for what they did, and I can’t wait to see her unleash some fury.
HIGHLIGHTS: * Highlight 1: Andren proudly stating she’s a member of the Zodiac Pack, which Charlie just made up for their circle of friends. * Highlight 2: “Make it quick so we can get this stupid report done and keep fucking.” * Highlight 3: Charlie planning to gift her mother’s wristwatch to Kal once it’s fixed, so Kal doesn’t forget about her if they’re ever apart. * Highlight 4: Andren not understanding gender identity the way humans see it back on Earth. * Highlight 5: Andren, the stoic and serious omega soldier, pouting about going on another space mission. * Highlight 6: Kal removing her shirt during her spar with Charlie, knowing Charlie’s going to be distracted by her body. * Highlight 7: Charlie leveling up her trash talking skills by provoking Kal. * Highlight 8: Charlie referring to Kal as a sugar momma. * Highlight 9: Charlie being dominant in bed. * Highlight 10: Andren being giddy about training Charlie and Raine to fight. * Highlight 11: After all the teasing and joking Charlie and Raine throw at Andren in the last couple of books, Andren finally gets to pick on the pair and I love every minute of it. * Highlight 12: Raine might not be getting with Dorlon but she’s hinted at getting with someone just as awesome and I love it!
PERSONAL TAGS: * 3rd person, Charlie’s POV * Cliffhanger ending * Competent protagonists * F/f omegaverse * Fated mates * G!p * Human female / she-alpha * Mercenary / high commander * Narrative cohesion * Rip my heart out but promise me a happy ending * Sci-fi (with a bit of fantasy) * Spice Level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ (left me drenched)
Oh, another banger book, every new one gets better than the previous, it was full of action, but it was full of tension, of banter and fun and very emotional moments, of day to day situations and we get to see every bond being built and getting stronger and being shattered. It's a gift, honestly.
Also, it's official, if there's a prologue there'll be crying silly from my part. And then, then we had that thing happening by the last bit of the book. The grief I'm feeling is just heart wrenching. I'm sure this is one of those moments I'll remember randomly in the future and start to cry as if was real. Here I was all happy there was no angst in the series, well ofc, Lexa was saving all of it for around now...
You know, it's funny that I always make notes during my readings to maybe add them to my review, when I was about 60% one of them was how happy I was that the author has decided not to do to certain people what she decided to do later, that would've broken me, but jokes on me because here I am writing while ugly crying.
P.S.: Imma say, I love Charlie but omg she starts to ask questions in the thick of things, honey the questions can wait a little while!
Impressive! I mean WOW !!! I've heard of Lexa Luthor on various Facebook audiences, but TJ Dallas recommends it too. So I thought if she says these books are special, I have to give it a try.
I devoured them.
The omegaverse and all the differences between species and planets are fantastic. But the characters are what stand out!
Kal and Charlie are brilliant together from the start. Hot, steamy, adventuresome and curios of one another. I love the hot scenes. Brilliantly written!! But also their friends and, in Kal's case, her faithful companions.
I am referring here to all five books so far. This is a great plot of action, love, hot scenes, and wonderfully developed characters, each with their own story and background. I LOVE IT. I can't wait to read the next book in this series and everything else Lexa Luthor will write!
The Sworne want to kill all Earthlings, period. They will not be deterred. Kalatas is rumbling deep within Kal's mind, troubled maybe. Charlie's dealing with her own relational worth. Raine & Andren are growing close. Dorlon's learning to continue to live her life on her own terms. And war is on the horizon. Allies must be found and Serrato Corps is first on the list. The writing's tight, character descriptions are well written, and the action is palpable. So, I get to the end of the book to a cliffhanger of all cliffhangers and I can't share because it will spoil the book. In fact, there's so much with the pages that I can't share because I don't want to spoil it for other readers. Now I've got to wait.
ooook, finally I can leave an actual review after just finishing.
incredible as always. I love the way Kal and Charlie's dynamic has progressed, how they're both changing for the better. plus the possible ship of Raine and Andren has me excited. I hope they get together.
we finally got to see the Sworne and fuck I hate them. I hope they get obliterated by the end. Melissa didn't deserve it.
and the epilogue with the spirit of Kalatas leaving Kal when they left orbit, leaving just Sumner. I was screaming. I can't wait to start book 6 tomorrow after reading I, High Commander.

As expected, Lexa delivered a great continuation of her Alpha God series. Thanks 👍 The relationship between Charlie and Kal greatly deepened especially as it relates to Charlie able to take essence of Kalatas into herself. We learn more about the Sworne and just how inhumane and deceiving they can be. Ends with quite a cliffhanger. Onto Book 6.
This felt more like a transition book for not a lot happened action-wise, but seeing the way that Charlie's relationships have grown and flourished was great. Her romance with Kal was warmer, more tender and romantic than before and the Zodiac pack are forging strong bonds of friendship. I'm really hoping to see more of Andren and Raine together in the next book. It's a really good thing that Lexa Luthor writes pretty fast😊.
Wow. This one legit took me 7 months to get through. Mostly because I got distracted with other reads but also there’s some real upsetting shit that goes down and I was like NOPE and then didn’t come back to it for months lol. Still a good read. I’m still invested especially after how this one ends. Definitely would still recommend for all those spicy scenes. 10/10 even though it took me half a year lol.
Omg. The cliffhanger?!?!??! I'm dead. These books. I'm alive, but I'm dead inside. I cannot stop reading these books. Plot. Twists. Abound!! It's Sci-fi. A/O goddesses. I seriously... there aren't words. I've been looking for a fic like this and this author has me, hook, line and tunjer! So many more books to look forward to and I will devour them as soon as they are released.
I thought book 4- Collecting stars was my favorite, but this! I feel like each book gets more suspenseful, more edgy and I love it! I'm rooting for Andren and Raine of course. They are both just a little bit awkward and adorable. When I'm close to finishing, I think ooh the cliffhanger isn't going to be too bad this time. Just kidding! Damnit Kalatas!
