And Cary Grant.
She annoys those darling little children by quoting lines from Back to the Future, but despite her knowledge of eighties and nineties pop culture, she was actually meant to live alongside the Lost Generation after the Great War and write a mediocre novel while drinking absinthe with Hemingway. Continuum has been a highly anticipated release for me, the entire The South Beach Connection Trilogy keeping on my toes with handsome, older gentlemen Cal and younger, romantic Annie wading into the waters of love and lust. Their promised summer is complete, their numbered days of bliss have passed, and the two have gone their separate ways. Their time together has created a permanent connection, leaving the two tied together forever, in body and soul. The two embark on separate journeys, with Continuum giving us a deeper glimpse into the man Cal used to be and has become today. He goes back home and finds nothing is the same and the only thought he continuously has is how much he misses his heavy. It's a final journey in self discovery, finally giving readers the outcome of their summer relationship.

I wanted to love Continuum and there is much about it that I do love, but I really struggled with how casual and realistic it was. I know, I usually praise realistic novels, but this one almost gets to you, sort of like its your real life in the pages. Not only is Annie heavy in emotion, but the book is heavy too. If you've not yet read the previous two novels, now is the time to stop reading this review as it follows immediately after the events in Wanderlust. They have created life together, something neither planner on doing at that time, though thankfully they find it is a welcome surprise. We see Cal deal with loss and Annie go through debilitating depression and we even see the old version of Cal shining through, for just a moment, but it's enough to put me on shaky terms with him. We do, however, get a host of fantastic secondary characters and we watch the couple continue to overcome. A.R. Hadley weaves a heady tale with Continuum, bringing the characters to life and putting them through even more heavy, though ultimately I got what I wanted for these two.

Continuum is the third and final novel in The South Beach Connection Trilogy. I've loved these characters and find myself overjoyed they found their way home together. While I think it ended up being a weighed-down novel, I still enjoyed it and have to give A.R. Hadley some props for managing to write about such topics so delicately. She has a way with words, her prose is really beautiful and lyrical, and it shines the most in this novel, for sure. If you like your romance realistic and sexy, this is the series to pick up.

Book three …..

In book three we learn so much more about Cal. I love love love that! I was more than ready to hear about him. My heart hurt for him, for everything he was going thru with his mom. Knowing she was there physically but mentally gone. So sad. As he tried to understand his feelings/love for Annie, he knew he wanted her. He knew he cared and he knew he loved her. But admitting all of these feelings to himself seemed so hard, ya know sometimes we think it should be easy. But that is not always easy.

Annie, devastated. She was heartbroken in book two and things progressed with her and the relationship she has with Cal. She has very real issues to deal with in book three. I don’t want to tell you all the details *NO SPOILERS FROM ME* but I want to say to the author, I love that you touched on a subject that you hear you of but never really get to totally understand. I felt for Annie in many ways. And I was rooting for her the entire time. I am so glad that Annie pulls thru, although she is forever changed, I believe it only made her a stronger person.

So many issues in this story and in book three really hit home for me. I can not stress enough how much I loved this series I really truly hope that you give this series a chance. It’s well worth it!

Thank AR Hadley <3

Talk about a roller coaster ride! My heart sank so low and rose so high throughout this book. There were times I wanted to hurt both Annie and Cal. Slap some sense into them. Shake them until their teeth rattled. In the end, perseverance won.

Annie goes through so much depression in this book. It was really hard to get through those parts. I wanted to hug her so badly and let her know she would get through it. Other times, I wanted to shake her out of it and tell her to try harder. Kudos to the author for writing so deeply the feelings portrayed in this book. It brought back bad memories and emotions for me, making it feel so real.

Cal goes through a lot on in this book, too. His hopelessness really got to me. I understood him needing time to deal with things on his own, but I really wanted to hurt him for it, too, because Annie was also going through something tough and basically all alone. They should have been together.

As I said in previous reviews, the writing was phenomenal. The way Hadley writes is so poetic, emotions and comparisons flowing within a beautiful prose. This is an author that I will read anything she puts out there.

I love this series and the characters, with book three being my favorite. A.R Hadley's writing is poetic, making me feel so many emotions. There is a 20 year age difference between Annie and Cal. Annie is an old soul. Cal closes out the people around him to his true self. They are both deep souls and spend a lot of time inside their own heads. In book 3 they open up and finally accept what they feel for each other. I won't give any spoilers, but just when things go as I wanted and Annie and Cal deserved, they don't. But, what a ride of emotions I felt as they work out through Annie's depression. Dealt with with sensitivity and a dose of reality. Loved it. Recommend it. Read it!

This is the third and final book of the series. Just like the previous two books, the writing is amazing and flows effortlessly. Both characters are still trying to figure out life after finding out there’s going to be a little one thrown into the mix. This is a very emotional read that will leave you blissfully happy in the end. I’m so glad I was introduced to this author and I can’t wait to read more books by her.

The final book in this trilogy has us following the characters through journeys full of emotion and self discoveries of who they are and were they have been and what their future holds. A beautiful angst journey that has you holding your breath and quickly flipping pages to reach the end and find out if they achieve their HEA.

This is the final story of cal and Annie’s story! This emotional story continues in book 3 where book 2 left off cal knows about the baby and he basically needs a breather so he goes back home to his dying mother. Does he tell his mom about the baby? And does Annie welcome him back after he gets his ducks in a row, wow just wow!

A must read series!

Happily ever after is definitely not a smooth ride, more like waves tossing about, lifting up and crashing down. Cal and Annie; "They'd ride the cosmic wave together... wherever it would take them."

Truly the most emotional series I've ever read. Heavy.. Profound.. and Lovely.
I learned about grief, happiness, depression.. nothingness, forever and so much more from the inside. The author really is able to convey all the emotions clearly. I could feel them in my soul. One thing I will take away from this series is always striving to be present, in the moment.

This was a great series to read and I'm little sad to have no more to read of Annie and Cals story that begun with them just being a summer love. Now things are becoming more and it only takes them to make the move for things to truly fall into place for these too. Great book and Great Series!

Love the writing style

Continuum is the 3rd book of The South Beach Connection trilogy. While the first 2 books came across as dreamlike poetry within prose, this book was more grounded in real life with a lot of hard knocks thrown in. The characters were more edgy and in focus. Their souls were bared in a way that almost made me feel like I was intruding on their inner thoughts. I found this especially so when I got to see a different side of Cal as he cared for his mother through her last days and thus discovered and uncovered things about himself. It was a painfully raw side that was necessary but made me uncomfortable.

And then there was Annie. In the first 2 books Annie’s camera played a starring role. Her life through her camera lens was such a huge part of her being, her “self”. Whereas in this book her camera played a much less significant role. Annie’s “self” started slipping away and depression set in. It was almost metaphorical.

I’m making this book sound so depressing and a good part of it was. Everything from Cal’s mom and Annie’s mom ( who I could not stand) to memories of her brother Peter, and even Annie’s dad. But.....there was always “something” out there hovering. The light was dim but not completely out. So woven in this complicated tapestry I found just enough hope to hang onto. The hero, the anchor in this book to me was Cal. I really came to love and respect him. His inner strength was commanding.

I love this Author’s writing style. The flow had a certain otherworldly feel to it. I can’t put my finger on it except that it sometimes felt surreal although not as much in this book as the first two. Each of the characters are strong, even the minor ones which gives the story a lot of depth. And I can’t say enough about Cal. He just popped in this book. Even when he wasn’t in a scene his presence was felt. It was mainly because of him and his deep love and devotion to Annie that I’m rating this book 5 stars.

Continuum is the final book in The South Beach Connection. I was sad to see it come to an end. I have grown attached to these characters and felt like they were close friends. Like the first two books, this is a slow burn book. It builds up nicely. Annie and Cal have been through so much. You almost lose hope for them at times. There are ups and downs. Life and love come together. Annie and Cal’s love is definitely one of a kind. I give this 4 stars.

Loved it

The conclusion to Annie and Cal’s love story was amazing. I loved this series. Annie and Cal have a powerful connection that both try to fight. This book does address depression and it really shows the ugly side and struggle of coming through it.

Annie Baxter has managed to get into a place where she is happy with her relationship with Calvin Prescott after everything they have gone through. Annie is delighted that they may have finally broken down the walls and have a future together. But Annie needs to go home to Seattle and Cal is off to California and his dying mother.

Calvin Prescott never thought he would end up where he is now but Annie's love gave him hope but now he is having a hard time with his mother close to death.

Can Calvin and Annie get over all over their distance to come to together again? Will their new roles in life help them grow closer or will it threaten to destroy everything they worked so hard to obtain?

This last book was probably the one I enjoyed the most for the series as it finally showed Cal in a better light.

Annie and Cal worked through so much to finally be together but I don't think anything really prepared them for the next step in their lives.

My heart just broke for Annie and everything she went through and I could relate to certain aspects of it for sure as you never want to feel like you are not enough. I knew why she was pulling away and the thought that your partner is not doing enough as they got to go onto work while you were at home dealing with so many emotions and struggles. I loved that this was included in the book as it needs to be brought out in the open so people don't hide their struggles.

I loved when Tabitha came to visit and how she was finally able to get through to Annie and then she was able to show Cal how to do it.

I was kind of nervous for Cal in California to see whether or not he would do what he was presented with!

The end of the book began to show Annie that there was a way out and that she needed to rely on those around her for help and that she could not do it on her own!

Great ending!

Summer is over, and Cal and Annie's relationship has proven to be more than just a fling. Although Annie has finally told Cal about the baby, he has had to leave her behind has he goes to stay with his dying mother. While there Cal faces some truths about himself and his relationship with Annie. Realizing he cannot be without his heavy he returns to Annie and their unborn baby and vows to never leave her again. Annie is overjoyed and everything is perfect for the pair, until the baby is born. Then Annie's depression returns full force and there doesn't seem to be anything anyone can do to reach her. Cal knows his Annie is still in there somewhere and will do anything and everything he can to help Annie break through the dark water that surrounds her to return to her family.

This is the last book in the South Beach Connection trilogy (though there will be a prequel to come). This book was told a lot more from Cal's perspective than the previous books which took me a bit by surprise. The beginning dragged a bit as I thought Cal took to long to figure things out, but once he returned to Annie things picked up quickly. Annie's depression was hard to read, only because it felt so true. If you've ever suffered from depression yourself you'll recognize all of Annie's behaviors. It was nice to see someone have help without depending on pills, though maybe not completely believable. Overall I enjoyed how the trilogy wrapped up. I rated this book three out of five stars.

I give this book a 3.5 rating. I've loved Cal and Annie from the start. Their story has been a journey for both of them. They both had demons to overcome to really be together. Their story has been a poetic one. As much as I've loved their story I felt that this book was a little ro heavy. It touched on some real issues, but I felt most of the book was about their issues. Even though what Annie was doing through was real I felt her young age really started to show and it got annoying for me. Because that part lasted so long I started losing interest. But overall I liked the book.

In this book Cal has to find himself a bit. He leaves Annie to take care of his sick mom who is going to pass away. He and Annie don’t talk to much and it somewhat messes with both of them. With Annie being pregnant and Cal and her relationship undefined makes everything a bit lost. Throughout this book Annie looses herself and the person she once was because of postpartum depression that happens when some moms give birth Annie can’t get a hold of reality and her wants and needs. She loses herself worth and poor Cal tries to get her back but it’s not easy. Will this be the end of their love?

This book is the conclusion to the trilogy and I still struggle with this being a slow read. Told more from Cal's perspective you go through a lot of emotions. Cal leaving Annie to go and look after his mother in her final days and Annie sinking into a deep depression. Whilst with his mother Cal finally begins to work through his issues and comes to realise just what Annie means to him. But, after he returns to Annie and the baby is born, he has to fight to get Annie out of her depression. I still felt there were unanswered questions at the end.

This is a story about waking up and realizing that life is still going on around you and you need to start going forward. Sad to loose a parent but sadder to watch someone walk away and not be in your life ever again. Age can be a problem but when everything seems right why say age is the problem. I thought this book showed all sides of what happens from choices we make in life and I really felt like I was right in the book going through the life as well.

The story continues of Annie and Cal. There's more poetry, more music, more passion. Life continues and there's loss and gain, love and death, joy and pain. It's like I'm watching this couple go through life and sometimes it's blissful and sometimes it's painful. It's great to have those you love around to help see that there can be beauty in the hard times, especially when you finally come through...that someone can be changed for the better.

Time's up. The summer has come to an end, and so have Cal and Annie. But no matter the distance between them these too stubborn souls can't seem to shake the other. There are still many trials to overcome, but this is the perfect conclusion to the wild ride that has become their romance.

If someone ever has to write the story of my life I hope A.R. Hadley would be willing to take on the job, she makes even the worst heartbreak sound so damn beautiful.

Well written, twisting storyline. Loved cal. But the overwhelming depression, heavy story line got on my nerves, Developed characters made this story even better. I just was overwhelmed with continuing depressive storyline, his mom's dementia, her mom's an idiot. , I hungered for a lightness of spirit which was so long in coming . Worthwhile read Recommended

At the beginning of the book I was mad at Cal. As it progressed, I felt a new respect with how he handled Annie. I went though the same thing as her so I felt a connection to what she endured. Their connection was strong and prevailed. Good book over all

This is book 3 in the trilogy.  In this book we get to really know Cal. Cal leaves and needs space while taking care of his dying mom. Which wasn't a good time for annie. I enjoyed reading this series. This series was very emotional and had so many twist. But ends with a happily ever after.
