Great source of reference for saving tips and crafting on a shoe string, especially for those with children. As someone with no children, I have found this to be equally useful, and as a result I have used some of the links and forward-planning go-tos already, much to my smug-side's delight.
The fact that money making resources are included, as well as demystifying how much hard work goes into 'making it' on YouTube, elevated the content from a common-sense-tip-checklist to an advisory resource for me.
Overall, a good one to dip in and out of, and return to, as long as the links remain relevant. It does also give you ideas, and further resources for savings are to be had for the curious-minded and hawk-eyed. So be ready to unleash your own Bargain Betty if you haven't already done so.
Decided I would read this to look at ways I possibly could save some money and look at my budget. Very interesting ideas and lots of information in lots of different areas. From selling clothes, mystery shopper, and lots in between and use of modern day technology. I found out lots of different ideas and thoughts and surprise hack's others have used. Near the end of the book lots of creative ideas that covers the season's of the year.
This book would be really helpful for people starting out with a budget like heading to university and leaving home or wanting to make some money by selling things to go towards something else.
This book is a really enjoyable read and useful whether you're wanting to reign in the purse strings all the way or just looking for a few hints and tips on how to get those bills down. It covers every aspect of family life including advice for new mums. But also works as an advice book for people who don't have children. Would highly reccomend reading and I can safely say it's one I'll be referring back to on a regular basis as I feel it has taught me a lot.
Lots of hacks to save money across many areas. The shopping ones were really useful. A quick read with some easy craft for kids dotted through the book.
This book surprised me actually- I loaned from library but I am thinking of buying a copy to keep. The advice given was interested a new information and the tone wasn’t at all patronising. I also liked the optimism and excitement in the writer’s tone- you can tell she’s passionate about this topic and it echos throughout the book. I’ve definitely scanned some pages with good advice. Loved it. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that quite a lot of guidance was tailored to families, whereas I don’t meet that target audience. That being said, I still found things to take on board so you don’t have to be the target audience to take some things on board. Really good.
I have followed Holly on Youtube for years now and love her vlogs and her bargain hunting ways! So of course I had to buy this book when it came out. There are some really great ideas in here - I've highlighted lots of things I didn't already know about so I can come back to them and hopefully save some money. I don't usually take a highlighter to a book but I knew I would be able to find things again so much easier! This book is well written and set out and is an easy read that you can dip in and out of and take things from. The tip about the cling film is definitely one I'm eager to try!
I was riveted on every page. There is so much to learn about getting things cheaper. Whilst reading it I looked on a local site for buying and selling and up popped just what I needed 32 DVD’s for £5 for my granddaughter! So I have already started putting the book into action. I also went to B & M’s and bought the Palma Violet Gin for my daughter’s birthday in December at £7.99. Thank you so much Holly and I am glad you are on This Morning programme too, I record it so I don’t miss a thing! Keep up the good work! Also I am now a member of the Meatbox and got some delicious meat from them too! Linda
I love holly and her YouTube channel. I have been watching her for YEARS so had to pick up her book too :)
The tips in this book are a mix of some commonly known tips, and obscure, more niche money saving and money making tips.
I have especially enjoyed the travel section as me and my partner have the travel bug and looking to save as much as possible on the travel so we can enjoy more when we are there!
I really enjoyed the fact her personality radiates out in this book - it’s a really fun read :)
Having followed Holly’s bargain videos for a while, having plenty of those tips and tricks in book form make them easier to locate and act on! I learnt lots of new hacks and ways to make my money stretch further and would recommend this book to anyone and everyone looking to make their pennies last longer each month.
I regard myself as an expert of the bargain hunt and money-saving. This book really expands my horizon for another level of money-saving. Not sure if I want to go that extreme but I downloaded the recommended apps and got a £1 deal for 9 toilet rolls so I am not complaining.
Quite a short read and has a lot of great tips that I haven’t come across before. It’s not a in depth personal finance book on making you rich, but it will certainly highlight areas where you may be overspending and suggests new ways to be a little more frugal. Good little book.
This book has some great ideas which has helped me create some of my own. a must for anyone interested in saving. I especially enjoyed the craft ideas towards the back
Saving and making money are Holy Smith’s focus to everyday savings hacks for a happy life. Although it is geographically based for UK readers, international readers can synthesise the hacks for local use where applicable. Collaboration with her fan base makes it practical and relevance to all.
Would recommend, some stuff might be a bit outdated now though e.g. web links, offers and apps etc helpful stuff about using social media and mystery shopping though
Some standard money saving tips, but if you regularly read Martin Lewis’s money saving email, there isn’t much new stuff here. Maybe I was expecting too much
Very informative book about not only how to save money but to make money as well. I’ve certainly learned so much and will be implementing it into my daily life
