My kids laughed at me reading this. I picked it up at a swap basket at a tourist information center in Ohakune before I completed the Tonfariro Alpine Crossing. This book reminded me why I need to read not so serious books. It was thoroughly enjoyable.
I really enjoyed reading this again. There was a lot of detail to the story spanning a few decades and the characters were good. There were a couple of parts that didn’t seem to quite flow well like a character from earlier on in the book popped back up later but didn’t seem to have any connection to the story. The end was also very abrupt. The whole story was building up to a final showdown which ended up happening in just the last 4 pages which was disappointing. It could have done with being more dramatic and drawn out to build the intensity. There could also have done with an epilogue so we knew what happened next. But overall it was a good book and nice to have a flashback to my teens reading it again! 4 ⭐️
