The cure's been found, but powerful forces are working against it to further their own interests in book 4 of the SPORE series.
Tired of the usual post-apocalyptic tale? Welcome to your new addiction.
SPORE is a new, thrilling post-apocalyptic survival saga from #1 best-selling authors Mike Kraus and Kenny Soward.
A billion acres of food have been wiped off the map overnight.
A mysterious illness, somehow connected to America's agriculture collapse, tears through the country - and the world - like a hot knife through butter, killing millions as it spreads.
Pockets of survivors are forced to trek west, seeking shelter and food as they fight against the disease that lives in the air and soil around them.
As death and destruction spread and the country collapses in upon itself, those left behind will be forced to work together to survive, lest they be consumed by the spores.
Welcome to my little space out on the web. I'm Kenny Soward, and I'm an author, musician, and once IT guy. I write books in many sub-genres of Science Fiction and Fantasy, including post-apocalyptic, military science fiction, epic fantasy, and horror. I'm influenced by authors such as Stephen King, George R. R. Martin, Anne Rice, J.K. Rowling, Mark Lawrence, Dan Simmons, Robin Hobb, Robert McCammon, Larry Correia, and Mike Kraus.
I love all kinds of movies and shows from Battle Star Galactica (reboot) to the Walking Dead. There's nothing I won't try.
I grew up in Kentucky in a small suburb just south of Cincinnati, Ohio, listening to hard rock and playing outdoors. In those quiet 1970's streets, I jumped bikes, played Nerf football, and came away with many scars.
My grandfather and many of my uncles and cousins served in the United States Military, and my father was a Kentucky State Trooper. Their efforts taught me the meaning of sacrifice and gratitude. I've always had an avid curiosity about the world around me, and I hope my enthusiasm for life carries over into my stories, even the dark ones.
This good series continues and there is certainly a lot of action in this 4th book. There are two non-main characters whose loss made me a bit sad. I feel a little frustration with Kim who is probably the main hope for finding a cure. She stops to check out and help everyone and takes chances on pretty much anyone she meets. How can someone so unfocused on an objective be able to focus on a cure? Jessie, though, rocked this book. Her solution to elicit cooperation from the vile Burke was genius.
I like the fungus concept better than a lot of storylines available in the post-apoc genre. It's fresher than the highly overdone EMP at this point. I just wish the authors would do basic Google research on things like Jeeps. Throughout the series they refer to the U.S. Military driving Jeeps when the Humvee has been the vehicle used since the 80s. At least in this book they finally referred to the Humvee, only to turn around and talk about Jeeps again. This led me to believe one of the co-authors knows what he is talking about and used the term Humvee while the other co-author is stuck in Jeep-land. That, in turn, makes me stop reading and think about the fact there are two authors - which brings me back to reality and interferes with my reading. I don't care if you have two authors or twenty as long as they consistently use the correct term.
Too close for comfort getting. But brilliant, millions dead, millions infected. Survivors struggling to survive, with renegades both civilian, Military, Cults baying for power.
Spore series Book 4, Exist, by Kenny Soward and Mike Kraus, continues the riveting dystopian saga that gets more thrilling with each subsequent chapter.
Desperate to reunite with his wife, Kim, Bishop Shields passes by horrific sights, of spore-infested corpses being gorged on by feral animals, etc., in scenes straight from the lowest levels of hell on earth. Kim must also endure horrors, (including being kidnapped) as she returns to meet Bishop at Fort Collins. It seems that there's no end to the spread of the deadly Asphyxia spores' spread...who survives? Who is Moe Tsotse and why does Marine Captain Melissa Bryant save him? Who runs the Light and Venom commune? Why does Moe distrust Zane Carver? Why is Burke held captive by his 'own' side? Mike Kraus and Marcus Richardson's Exist is an incredibly moving, haunting and all-too-believable survivalist thriller, that should be a wake-up call to everyone.

I’ve enjoyed the series so far; even buying into/suspending imagination for the premise that a mutant fungus could sprout up and kill organic life within seconds to minutes of exposure. I also know that a certain amount of danger, death and unanticipated circumstances warrant the story to move on, but Randy getting exposed? Aponi and Paul both getting murdered? Ok, Aponi was a minor character, but she could have been the leader of the Women Warriors with Waki. She wasn’t a battle slouch and should not have been shot to pieces like that. One or two bullets, but 6? No way! Now Paul, I knew that was coming since his presence had been reduced so much in the beginning of the book. If he had been portrayed as a younger man, he could have been a love interest rather than an eccentric bachelor or a father figure rather than the “cool” uncle. Still... letting “the sicko” get to kill him in one of the most traumatic ways possible — so nasty and demeaning. I guess I’ll liken this book to the same as SᴛᴀʀWᴀʀs2: Tʜᴇ Eᴍᴘɪʀᴇ Sᴛʀɪᴋᴇs Bᴀᴄᴋ. Here’s hoping book 5 brings a few more victories for the heroes than it does for the villians. ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ Ta for now! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
