Portia
As a young debutante, I’m supposed to sip champagne, dance, and meet interesting gentlemen. Except that with the constant company of Scot—my brooding, handsome bodyguard who protects me from vampires and other Unnaturals—I can barely chat with my girlfriends. The fact that I try desperately to attract Scot’s attention only adds frustration to my not-so-enjoyable season. The man doesn’t seem to notice me. So I make a wish, hoping to steal a kiss a from him, but accidentally I summon a lilath, a capricious fairy with no sense of humour. And Scot and I find ourselves trapped in the lilath’s enchanted forest. The payment for our freedom is more than a kiss.

Wishes are always tricky, but when a capricious fairy is involved, our heroine is in for much more than she bargained for.

This is book four of this urban fantasy series with a steampunk setting. The book actually does okay as a standalone, but you will get a lot more out of it if you read them in order.

I am a sucker for both urban fantasy stories and steampunk, so this one fits the bill nicely. The story is very well written, the setting is detailed and gritty, and the characters are deep and mysterious. Our heroine gets herself in quite the fix this time, which is really quite enjoyable from the outside reader's perspective. Overall, another fantastic story and I continue to look forward to more in this series.

Highly recommended.

This author always exceeds my expectations! I might love her. I also know for certain that I love these characters!! The plot was swift and inviting and kept my attention till the very end. I barely have any nails left due to the amount of mind less chewing of them I did, I do this when I’m really involved/invested in something. I wouldn’t have it any other way. The action in this book was perfectly timed with a clever mystery to be solved within these pages while providing amazing characters and character growth. As always the world she has written is immaculate! Over all the story line was perfect, the characters were complex and the world within this book was perfect! I honestly didn’t feel there was a negative point in this book, something I much appreciated and rarely have happen! I loved it so much apparently I forgot there are other forms of punctuation besides exclamation points lol.

This book is listed as a standalone novelette, however I do agree with other reviewers that reading the others does add to the reading of this book. Portia should have known better about making wishes, sometimes they don't come true, but sometimes they come true and our twisting to suit the one making the wish. Now more is required of her bodyguard Scott than what she wished for and if thy don't do what they need to lilath will never let them free. This book was a great adventure and I'm hoping for more.

Portia, a young woman with a permanent R.O.B. guard called Scot. He is sinfully handsome of course and she would just love for him to ravish her. Then a shadowy woman, an Unnatural called a lilath appears at a ball, and her payment for not taking one of their lives is for Scot to kiss Portia. But the kiss isn't satisfactory according to the lilath. She wants more. But when they have a scorching kiss, it still isn't enough. She now wants a mating. Will they go through with it?

This is the 4th book I've read written by Barbara Russell; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I can’t wait to read more of her books.

The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

I loved the characters.

Quick little Novella style read. Do not know these characters from previous books, but same concept of new Unnatural meets love and sex. Another great book in this series!
