I have looked at the series this book is in in our library for a while. But there never seems to be the time. At the suggestion of a colleague, I had students read the series for a non-fiction book report, and I read one too.
I have mixed feelings about the series. I really enjoyed my book about 20th Century Art 1980-2000. My eyes were opened to new art forms,Damien Hirst's preserved animals, Chris Ofili's paintings with organic material on them, but mostly learned that my idea of art is a narrow idea. Art is not all pretty or done for decorative purposes.
that said, I do think the organization of the books is not as clean as it could be. Art works are often described and no picture is given or a different picture. Attention to the art used in connection with the actual text needs to be given. Although the glossary was there and I used it, the vocabulary was such that the glossary should have been MUCH beefier!
Overall, I am glad I read the book, and I know more than I did when I began.
