Lucy Hellenberg is not your typical Pacific Cedar High student. Because in between hanging out with her friends, hating her hair and her math teacher, and trying to decide whether she should dump her on-again off-again boyfriend, she has to deal with a father who refuses to go outside and a house that bears way too much resemblance to the set of The Munsters.
And that's not all. Lucy has just discovered that she's a descendent of the lovely Lucy in Bram Stoker's Dracula-and that vampires really do exist (right here at Pacific Cedar High!). Now, she has to accessorize her homecoming dress with a necklace of garlic and learn how to drive while driving away vampires-without becoming their next victim.
Its campy its dumb its a fast read. Just sit back and go for the ride Id recommend it if you ever saw the Buffy the vampire slayer MOVIE, not show. (I never watched the show so I can't say if its like that but I do think the show was a bit more serious??) Anyways the MOVIE is silly and dumb but its tongue in cheek. knows what it is and you can recall it as "oh hey that's the movie with the guy who plays pee wee Herman is a vampire and does a long drawn out silly death." This book is like that. Spoilers that I kinda got a problem with tho (but nothing big) 1. Dracula isn't even dracula he's the actor Bram Stoker knew Henry Irving. (Whys he called dracula? *shrug* why don't the characters call him Irving? *Shrug*) and he's just in the very end. "Hey hi I'm here. Oh okay time to die now. ✌" very anti-climactic 2. Why does Lucy have mind powers? Idk but some how just discovering them while being chased around in a hallway she can kick the ass of a century old vampire. And levitate 🤷♀️ 3. Vampire/goths need a billion face peircings 4. Back of the book says full of interesting facts about bram stoker and vampire myth and legends. But its very bare bones crap. And tries to pull a "strong woman and feminist" thing a the end. Like okay book calm down you are definitely not that. Lol just be the shlocky B- book you are. You are not getting any awards. 5. Cringey love at first sight lets makeout as you cry about your moms death, i only said 5 sentences.
Also poor Vic. You deserve better boo. Get you a hot big tiddy goth vampire chick and not be total evil. I support you. 🖤
It was a nice book, but I admit I thought it would be better. The story was original and good, but there was something missing. The fact is that I couldn't relate much with the character of Lucy. I just couldn't feel how Lucy felt. Her story with Vic was short (at least in the book) and we didn't get to like them as a couple. But then when Christopher arrives, it's all so rushed and I don't feel how they feel. It's like reading of someone falling in love at first sight but with no emotion there. They just felt the need to kiss and be togheter. But I didn't feel it. Didn't feel the passion, the love, the attraction, their feelings. I liked Lucy, Mina and Mark. I especially liked Mark a lot. Christopher was okay, and Vic was weird and kind of stupid and ended up being creepy and evil. Seth and Jude were creepy. Especially Seth. Lucy's father was weird but nice. Mina's mother was weird too but not bad as a mother. And it was obvious she loved both Mina and Lucy. I also liked Mr Dobbs and I would have liked to know more about him. Actually, I wish there will be a sequel because I want to read more of this story too. It was too short and a lot rushed in my opinion. Even the ending was a little rushed. I imagined a major battle, but I got a rushed fight instead. All in all a nice read, and entertaining.
A unusual occurrence back in 2006 when this was first published.
For me this was pretty short and quick to the touch but also very equal parts entertaining and also fun with a little thrill.
Despite this book being a few over ten years old and being a little cliche here and there, I appreciate this for what teen lit back in the day could never do: maintain a change of pace while not bending too far with its story.
I mean come on,in here we get cell phones being used (and IPods plus a reference to Beyoncé) and a sweet romance that was really rushed but melted my heart.
I looked up at him. Here was one person in the entire world who could understand what I’d been through. Who knew what it was like to lose a parent to Dracula. Who knew what it was like to see the world, not with rose-colored glasses, but with seeing eyes that showed all shadows and darkness. I stared into his eyes. He had been hugging me, comforting me. Now he put a hand on each side of my face and tilted my face upward more. He leaned close to me and kissed me,softly nibbling on my bottom lip.
This book is really unknown. The author wrote two books after this but it wasn’t really important because they stopped writing after that. This book is titled “The Lucy Chronicles” making it look like a series, but in reality it’s actually a stand a lone with less than 300 pages of material.
As for the content in here,at times I found myself scratching my head wanting to put it down. The sex in here is mild and there are a few mentions of references: -hand going under a bra -couples making out on a couch -girls grinding on guys -a few scenes of making out (at least three)
And aside from that, this novel is about vampires and repelling then. So why don’t we get a few scenes of that? I mean come on, this book had a great premise but it still didn’t really deliver.
And I finished all of this book within less than a day. An all time favorite? I don’t know, maybe. Would I recommend it? Most definitely. It was pretty captivating.
Of course, the book could have been 300 pages+ with a little more time to make that romance believable and a few fighting scenes (come on,vampires?!) but nothing less a decent enough read.
This showed a lot of things I thought was missing from Vampire books. Vampires are EVIL, the are not the 'oh sparkle' thing that has now plauged the vampires of current authors, and it makes Vampies go into WOLF form. that is awesome. WOLF, not bat but a wolf. that's how I write vampires. I loved it, I hope Conrad writes more
very light vampire fiction, bad teen voice but enough indicators to amuse the 11-12 set, no cussing (she actually spells B-word), or bloody violence, good girls win but a little bit of drama and dress shopping in the middle.
Lucy Hellenberg lives a somewhat a-typical high school life. Her sixteenth birthday is approaching, but she's not too concerned with it. What bothers her is her father's inability to leave their house, a place that bears a strong resemblance to the one the Munsters of television fame lived in. She worries about whether or not Vic, her sometime-boyfriend, will ask her to the Homecoming Dance. She wonders if she'll ever survive algebra with a teacher like Mrs. Ruthen, otherwise known around Pacific Cedar High as Mrs. Ruthless.
To top it all off, her English teacher, Mr. Dobbs, has stared a unit on Bram Stoker's Dracula. Which might have been only mildly interesting (hey, it sure beat Beowulf or Shakespeare!) except for the very, very, very weird coincidences between Dracula and Lucy's own life. Like the fact that two of the main characters of the book are Lucy and Mina, and that Lucy's best friend just so happens to be named Mina. Like the fact that Henry Irving, an actor managed my Stoker back in the late 1800's, shares the same last name as Lucy's on-again, off-again boyfriend, Vic. Like that fact that, on her sixteenth birthday, Lucy's father presents her a journal passed down through her mother's family that lets her in on the little secret that Lucy is now destined to fight Dracula, the most powerful vampire of all.
Of course Lucy assumes her dad has went off the deep end, until she starts reading the journal and reads about her lineage. Suddenly, she can see vampires--real, live, blood-sucking vampires--everywhere she goes. And she knows it's up to her--along with the help of Mina, Mr. Dobbs, her father, her other best friend Mark, a cat named Professor V., a godfather who makes garlic perfume, and a boy named Christopher with a pet wolf named Kayla--to stop Dracula before he kills them all.
HIGH SCHOOL BITES is a great book! Full of action-adventure, interesting vampire trivia, and main characters that will have you rooting for them, I definitely hope there's another book in THE LUCY CHRONICLES!
I have to admit this is the first book where things just really didn't add up for me.... I mean usually I read books and I pick really good ones and they turned out great but this one it was good but there were some things in the story that does baffled me. The first thing is when Lucy is asked to go out with Vic and she finds out he's a vampire why would she still go out with him when she finally learned about his past the thing everyone would do is run away that didn't make sense another thing It didn't make sense why is that her and Christopher's love I guess mess it happened so quickly that it just didn't seem normal or right or even realistic...... I don't know maybe it's just me but the story didn't didn't have a lot of answers but it sure did have a lot of questions
I liked the book, though it wasn't what I was expecting. It was a little on the short side and there wasn't enough story development and romance. I didn't feel that intrigued while reading. I would have liked it more if it had more action and romance. Also the whole thing with Christopher was too spontaneous, it happened too fast. I felt as if Lucy betrayed Victor, even though the author didn't explain their relationship enough. I would have being happier if Lucy had stayed with Victor and made him change into a better vampire.

This book is a really interesting story based on a myth about vampire. Lucy Hellenberg is the main character who discovered her identity as a girl who inherited her mother, grand mother and great grand mother's gene as a fighter against vampire Dracula. If you want to find out more about whether or not she defeated the vampire, read this book!!
Although I usually don't enjoy vampire books, I actually liked this one. In the beginning it seemed like one of those superficial books that is fun to read, but doesn't affect the reader to a deeper level, however towards the end, the book takes an unexpected twist. It teaches you that there is nothing in this world as important as family and friends.

Having learned on her sixteenth birthday that it is her destiny to fight Count Dracula (alive, sort of, in Seattle), Lucy tries to save herself and her friends while wondering whether the boy of her dreams is one of the living dead. I really enjoyed this take on the story of Dracula. Anyone who loves the Count or Buffy should check out this funny bit of Young Adult Chick Lit.
This sounds like soooo much fun.I wish that our school was like this.^_^ This book is about a girl named lucy who goes to a high school where vampires attend as well as vampires and she must overcome Dracula in the long run after her sixteenth birthday.
Imagine yourself being a teenager turning 16 who has to fight Daracula?!!!!! I loved the book, because it shows all the stuff teenager is going through and the conclusion she takes. Your dreams serve as a trap into the vampire's kingdom? Read this awesome book to know the end....
This book was super slow and very cliche. Easy plot and characters. It was an easy read, but I definately wouldn't recommend it nor would I ever read it again. Waste of time.
This is what I wrote in my journal back in 2007. The book was OK until the author rushed the ending with a bullshit way to kill Dracula but I will just leave it at that.
