*Contains scenes of violence and adult content consistent with a full-scale societal collapse, foreign occupation, and a post-apocalyptic nightmare. ___________________________________________ WHAT READERS ARE “Ryan knows how to write action and suspense. But where he truly shines is the flawed, complex, and broken but resolute heroes and heroines he creates.” – Kyla Stone, USA Today Bestselling Author of the Edge of Collapse series and The Light We Lost “Buckle up your seat belts, charge your Kindle and try to settle in for this outstanding novel! I loved the character development, the rich descriptions and also a plot that was so believable.” – Serenity, Amazon HALL OF FAME TOP 10 Reviewer ★★★★★ “What a gut-wrenching, page-turning, sit-on-the-edge-of-your-seat book! The author does an amazing job of making the characters come to life and you feel connected to them in an emotional way.” – BJ Gilbert, Amazon Reviewer ★★★★★ “ I was catapulted into a world of unimaginable hardship, patriotism, suffering and loss, hope, and community. From the beginning it was non-stop action, a believable story line, and well-rounded and flawed characters.” – Susan Isenberg, Amazon Reviewer ★★★★★ “This is a well-blended tale of clashes large and small. Love versus need, freedom versus oppression, and the incredibly difficult task of determining where the line between morality and justice lies.” – ReaderX, Amazon Reviewer ★★★★★ “Ryan delivers strong plot lines, well developed characters and weaves love, fear, trust, deceit into a complex world of the apocalypse.” – Carol, Amazon Reviewer ★★★★★ “This is brilliantly written and an emotionally riveting work of art! This book says it all,joe Biden is a disaster waiting to happen!
I read this story a while back and enjoyed it. My review was weak or non existence. I read a lot, and dont remember the titles so i downloaded this book and started reading, I realized i had read it already but i kept reading because of the chinese were taking over the west coast! I believe that joe biden is a crook inthe pocket of china! De ja vous. Good book hope itsnot prophetic.
I enjoy this author's books. I binge read this series. With all the craziness going on in real life this year, the violence and evil were almost too much. This is an America just a few years in the future. Totally sold out by our leaders and overtaken by various world armies. This series focuses on the West Coast, and China has brought in troops, and is in control of California up to Washington state. The United States is basically gone. There are resistance people left but retaking this area is a monumental task. Good read, but the violence is so intense that I had to skim some sections.
I just finished the last of this 7-books series, and my mind is still with the Five Falls survivors, and everything they experienced to get back to Five Falls. To say that this series will make you experience every emotion we are capable of, is putting it mildly. The writing is superb, almost flawless (very, very few misspellings). You will find yourself completely immersed in the almost non-stop action, to the point of being able to smell the gunpowder, cordite and blood in the skirmishes and wars the Patriots fight... many times I caught myself looking around, to ensure no one was sneaking up behind me (for real!). Throughout this entire series, I can honestly say that my heart pounded non-stop, and my breathing was as fast as a Thoroughbred racing for the finish line at the Kentucky Derby. I cried many times, and you will as well. I have already told all of my family, friends and neighbors about this series... 5 different friends have already added it to their libraries. Myself? After I take a day or two to return to my present-day life and chores, I will definitely be reading the complete series again, before purchasing Ryan's other series, one at a time of course! This was my first reading of any of Ryan's books, but I guarantee he just got another life-long fan! Do yourself a HUGE favor and start reading this right away, you will definitely not be disappointed! Thank you, Ryan Schow, for an outstanding story that could be very relatable in our society's future. 5 stars just isn't enough.
This read like a Hollywood movie script if a script were to combine Dirty Harry, Rambo and Die Hard with The Hunger Games.
I can see the United States, torn apart by the media, corrupt anti-American foreign Congress persons, and big business taking advantage and destroying the middle class. I see that everyday.
What I can't see are the "war scenes" where a single family and friends take down the entire occupying Chicom Army and the entire South American Army with no air support, artillery, tanks or even RPGs. Like I said, as unrealistic as a Hollywood war movie - and Not Band if Brothers or Saving Private Ryan.
If you can suspend reality for a bit, maybe more, and have nothing else to do, you could spend a quiet day reading this series.
This series started out strong. But in the end, it was depleted and almost a chore to read.
The turning point was a ridiculous battle that should have never been fought. Lotsa developed characters made their exit. And the new characters weren't nearly as interesting or likable as the old. And the old characters morphed into caricatures of their most aggressive instincts. So there was no one left to be interested.
Like the heroes, our author bit off more than he could chew. As a result, he and his story were bloodied. It was painful to watch.
OMG i can so see myself in this book! I want to shot, stab, slash! I just lost my husband of 49 years and can soooo identify with Obey. How ever, I'm not suicidal so the fight appeals to me. This world is fucked up, and I can so definitely see this story becoming reality in the future. I'm old like Obey, but I got my guns loaded. Ryan.... such a story ! Wish I could one on one and pick your brain. Ill be on your team anyday! Just tell me where and when! I know its coming! Recommend 5 starts! You gotta read!
I really got caught up in this series as the author builds the characters nicely, for the most part. The writing was well done and there were little to no spelling or typos that could distract. The series felt a little bit like a gorey car crash. Terrible things are happening but you can’t help watching (reading). It was somewhat violent and people could be turned off by that. However, I felt it was believable under the circumstances in the story. A good, satisfying read.
Aside from the fact that this book series is potentially prophetic given the time we are living in (and for that reason maybe everyone ought to read it), it is very poorly written and even more poorly edited. Eg: “He sprints down the street at a sprint.” The Books are rife with many examples like this and lots of errors in areas that with just a little more research the author could have gotten correct. I finished the series only because it came as one complete book and I have never not finished a book I have started. Otherwise I might not have even made it through book 1.
The Chinese Communist have invaded the West coast of our nation, our government has been corrupted by traitors, the President has fled to China. All of lost, people have been brought to the cities shoes their being systematically killed or imprisoned. Our military has been deployed overseas under orders to finish the wars by the commander in chief on the fake generals. BUT there is an active RESISTANCE! THIS is a cast paced, nonstop, real, bloody, military no holds barred series that will keep you engaged!
RYAN!, my friend, have tapped the American spirit into this series! I am amazed at the characters, male but especially the overlooked female desire for freedom! You have done what few authors have been able to do, write from both male and female perspectives. I was especially surprised that not all the warriors were former Vets, but a mixture of Vets and civilians. I look forward to reading more of your books.
The Dark Days Series is a power saga of a very unlikely group of people who come together to win back their freedom and country. The characters are interesting, flaws and all. This series is much more violent ,graphically so, than I usually enjoy but the story was so engrossing I kept right up with it. My reward was seeing my favorite characters become a blended family a nd community.
Very engaging, with likeable and interesting characters, this series really takes you on a harrowing journey through a somewhat plausible breakdown and annexation of the United States. There are elements of these novels that were a bit more tactical and gory than what I usually enjoy but it is testament to the author’s writing and story-telling that I appreciated this world and where the characters had to go to overcome.
I very much enjoyed this series. It makes me nervous to see the similarities of this story and the USA's current government and how we could be headed down the same path as the dark days series. Our 46th President along with members of congress and Senate share a eerily similar mindset with the U.S. government in Dark Days. Throw in the media mob, big tech, and the socialists agenda and we could be living this nightmare! It will take American patriots to stand up and fight for our freedoms and country or this could become our reality.
You have to suspend disbelief a fair bit on this one. It’s a gripping tale, but the underdogs are just a little bit too lucky in the face of overwhelming opposition. Additionally, there are some violent scenes that, while they might be realistic in a dystopian scenario, don’t really do much to advance the story. I think there are better dystopian reads out there. Only recommended for die-hard dystopian fiction fans.
I enjoyed the stories A LOT. Ryan Schow’s sense of humor shines through; I specially liked that the two MOST KICKASS heroes were ladies. I like the underdogs turning into heroes & the saga of so many fights. Humans wouldn’t have survived so many calamities thus we must assume these characters are superheroes, Action, romance, martial arts & Krav Maga… what’s not to like? Nicely done Mr Schow!
Although at places, it's quite embellishing, it really is a look at the near future of America if we Patriots don't start standing against the Communist/Marxist leftists destroying our country, working double time to bring us to our knees. The sellouts continue to give US away to China, and it needs to STOP!! Or we'll find ourselves in the pages of this book!!
Wow! Just wow! 7 books of intense, like Rambo-level intense action! This story was both hard to read and not to read. There's so much death! But each of the characters are so brilliantly developed that it's hard not to get pulled into their plights. So brave, so super-human like! I need to take a vacation after reading this set. I feel like I have been doing the battles alongside!
My guilty pleasure is the post-apocalyptic thriller and this series does not disappoint. Character driven and fast paced, if it was a movie i would have been on the edge of my seat. The books are well written with truly compelling characters. Very violent of course….it IS a war…but many moments of thoughtful humanity. I listened to the Audible version and give an additional 5 stars to the narrator!!!
I liked the character development and then depth of personalities the author went with each one and yet left a little imagination for the reader as to why some of the characters did what they did. Great plot development and some unusual twists and turns popping up here and there made the series more enjoyable.
Action packed story with good character development and storyline. Some of the emotional drama of the characters was a little drug out for this reader. Timelines were also a little hard to follow in certain instances. All in all a good read and recommended for fans of the genre.
I did enjoy this book although there were parts I sorta scanned through. I am not a fan of graphic violence and there was a lot. But...this was war and war is not pretty. I liked that he didn’t dodge the ugly facts. The story and characters were complex and interesting. I would recommend this book. It is too real for comfort but maybe we should not be too comfortable.
I've read a few book series and I always started to feel the story was being drawn out too much, but this series surpassed my feeling of being drawn out too much. What a great series, couldn't put it down. Through the whole book it was like I was there experiencing the whole book. Great book.
This was a very graphic and moving set of books. It quickly spins you in its web and you can imagine everything that is going on. I really liked a lot of the characters. As long as you don't have a weak stomach, the books have a lot of fighting and killing, you will be captivated by these books. Can not wait to read more books by this author.
At first it seem so slow, but after reading the Whole series I see it was character building. Loved that the women were strong willed and capable and not just princesses waiting to be rescued. Well worth the time to read it. Looking forward to reading other series by this author.
Not sure about anyone else but this book hit the proverbial nail on the head. Much of what is occurring in America today can be seen as resulting in the reason the story is taking place. Traitors to the American way of life selling out their own country to a foreign power (China) result in the complete loss of California to the Communist Regime. Dark Days does a great job describing life under the Communist rule and the losses of it's main characters help make you root for the home team.
My God these books are incredible and Ryan Schow is my new favorite author. I hated for this series to end after feeling I knew and loved so many of the characters. Incredible depth to his writings and I've already started another of his series. Can't say enough just that as a "constant reader" I enjoyed them s more than anything I've read in years ! Not to be missed.
The story develops well if treated as a single book. It should be published as such. Readers attention spans are longer than you're giving them credit for. Its a smooth, fast paced read, but the bad guys end up looking like the Keystone Cops after a while. No military force is that incompetent.
There was way too much graphic torture depicted in this story. It was sick and twisted, sadistic, gory and just plain unnecessary to the storyline. I would have enjoyed the book much more if not for the many scenes depicting depravity on a scale that should not even be thought of, much less written about.
I think Ryder should have taken the cat with him. This would had shown some humanity in him still left instead of just killing. President of China comes off as a psycho and then as a baby having a temper tantrum. Why would some of the congress persons and media, be even in the Cimcon Head quarters.
This is quite an informative read in this time of vast upheaval in the USA and especially in the setting it is in I really enjoyed it it could well be for real the way the dictatorial way of the Chinese Communists recommend it.
