A message of hope for an anxious God never changes. He is still here and ready to transform our lives. What we must ask is if we are ready to respond to him.
The senior pastor of one of the largest and most diverse churches in America calls out a common It's easy to wonder if God has just... left. There is a rising sense of uncertainty and turmoil in the world. Our individual lives are often touched by disappointment, confusion, or regret. Sometimes, if we're honest, we can even feel abandoned by God. Pastor Jarrett Stephens has been there, engaging personal doubt and frustration, and learning how to walk with others through their own anxieties into a better future.
Throughout Scripture, God reveals himself using various names to describe his nature and character. Each tells us something fascinating about his character. The eternal name God chose to use when revealing himself to Moses at the burning bush was "I AM," indicating how, while others change, God does not. Centuries later, Jesus ascribed this title to himself, giving seven distinct "I AM" statements, which help us see how the "I AM" from the past is still the "I AM" today. This unfailing, good nature of the always God helps us find solid footing in a shifting world.
The Always God gives hope to those who think God has given up on us or is no longer responding. It invites us to quiet ourselves and listen to the God who does not change or forget us. Not ever. And that changes everything.
The Always God He Hasn't Changed and You Are Not Forgotten by Jarrett Stephens WaterBrook & Multnomah Multnomah Christian Pub Date 01 Jun 2021
I am reviewing The Always God through Waterbrook and Multnomah and Netgalley:
We live in a time where we are getting a rising sense of turmoil in our lives as well as in the world. The loss and disappointment we so often feel whether because of an unexpected diagnosis, a desperate search for a job, or our concern for the future of those we love.
When we are experiencing those soul crushing “Why is this happening?” moments we can often feel abandoned. We begin to wonder if God has given up on us , is he no longer responding, has he left us alone?
The author Pastor Jarrett Stephens understands. He’s battled his own doubt and frustration and has walked with others through their struggles and anxieties.
The author has discovered some really good news through his experience and the experience of others. Even when we don’t understand what God is doing, he is always at work, pursuing the lost restoring the broken, calming the anxious, comforting the lonely, helping the angry, encouraging the fearful, and forgiving the guilty.
The Always God invites us to quiet ourselves and listen to the God who does not change or forget us. Not ever. And that truth changes everything.
Jarrett Stephens is used to preaching to thousands, yet while reading this book, it seems as if he's talking directly to you, one on one. And that's sort of the message of the book - though God is able to see and follow everyone and everything in the world and cosmos, He is always for you, with you, and in you, one-on-one. You are infinitely important to Him, and He is always caring for you, working for you, preparing the best for you.
I found this book especially good when addressing the frailities, flaws and foibles we all deal with such as doubt, fear, and inner turmoil. Well-written, this book is well worth your time.
My sincere thanks to NetGalley and WaterBrook & Multnomah for allowing me access to an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and are freely given.
Not my favorite genre, to be honest, but this one is worthwhile. Not completely new but the message that focuses on the sufficiency of God for all troubles is timeless. I appreciated the chapters that each took a different reaction we might have to hardship. The message is backed up with scripture and personal examples but always with the goal to point toward Christ. And I appreciated the book as much because I got to know our new pastor as I read stories from his life. Not to mention the fact he writes the whole book very conversationally.
In "The Always God", Jarrett Stephens wants his readers to understand and be convinced of God's omnipresence. He splits his book into three parts: Always Here, Always Working, and Always Faithful. I specifically enjoyed the portions of the book that were about comforting the anxious and fearful. I thought this book was good, and would be a good resource to add to a Christian's library.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
Wow! This book is a must read! Jarrett Stephens communicates the truths of “The Always God” in such a conversational and inspirational tone. The encouragement and edification drips off of every page. Every chapter is packed with Scripture. Do your soul a favor and read this book!
In the interests of transparency, I am not a Christian. However, I found the author's approach to be very down to earth and compassionate. He provides personal as well as Biblical examples and liberally sprinkles humor throughout. It was a thought provoking read.
Valuable knowledge of the benefits of following Lord Jesus Christ in our lives. Encouraging words into having Jarrett Stephens as our Senior Pastor at Champion Forest Baptist Church
This is a really wonderful book by Jarrett Stephens. He gives great examples of how God is always pursuing us, always. The last chapter is my favorite part of the book.
