She dreamed of being free to make her own decisions. When it comes to a mate, why must she pick just one?

Haven colony has everything a newly freed cyborg could hope for. After a life of violence and forced obedience, Shadow can finally make her own choices. But freedom comes with its own challenges – and hers includes a pair of sexy as fraxx aliens who both lay claim to her heart.

He wants her – but it’s complicated…

After a tragedy, Denz needs a change. Haven offers him a new life, a chance to finish the work his friend started, and enough work to keep him from thinking about everything he lost… until Shadow arrives at Haven. She’s everything he’s ever wanted – smart, sassy, and heartbreakingly beautiful. There’s just one problem. She’s not the assassin who murdered his best friend, but she wears the same face.

He lost his anrik and any chance of a mate long ago…

Kade is close to having it all. One last debt to pay off, and all his mistakes will be behind him. He just has to live with the mistakes of his dead anrik... the one that condemned him to a lifetime alone. Everything changes when he sets down in a backwater colony and catches wind of the impossible – the mate he wasn’t supposed to have.

When trouble comes to Haven, all three will have to make a choice – protect their hearts, or protect each other, no matter what the cost…

Every Book in this expanding world makes the story richer. You could read this as a stand alone and it would be a good book. Read as part of the story brings extra depth and character building. Three people, an assasin,a gambler, and a leader, come together with differing degrees of brokeness. They are all tramatized by their past. I loved how well the characters were built in a relatively short time. I felt like I knew them by the end of the book.

This is a wonderful read that I thoroughly enjoyed, complex and captivating read
Haven colony is a place that has become a sanctuary to all kinds of beings from all over the planets, there are cyborgs, and Vardarians who had wings and were able to fly along with so many other kinds all living in a place called Sanctuary which was their home, their safe place, their sanctuary.
Shadow had been sitting at the bar when she noticed a male paying a great deal of attention and when he approached her and declared that she was his “Mate”. Kade explained that they were destined to be together, she had also asked Denz if he would consider becoming a second mate so that their family would be a triad.
The mating fever that had affected both Shadow and Kade was raging through their body and they had to acknowledge that they needed to conduct their mating, otherwise they will be overtaken by the fever which could mean madness or death for them.
Both Shadow and Kade are waiting to discover if Denz will join them as one of their mated partners but he has doubts, it is true that Shadow wears the same face the assassin that killed his Anrik all those years before. It has taken time but he has to admit that he has feelings for her and now that he has been asked to become one of their triad he had much to think about.
This is a wonderful story and I am sure that like me you will find yourself unable to put this book down until you read this whole book and discover the outcome for these three wonderful characters.
I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

This was such a great series opener that spins off The Drift series and I was so stoked to see it hit my reader! I love how the world building, emotions, acceptance and the chance at a fulfilling future is showcased so well. The witty banter, danger and intense chemistry just rounded out my reading experience and I can't wait for more.

Pretty good story. All of the characters are interesting and likeable. Kade is a bit shady but he isn’t a bad guy. Just makes bad choices. Denz is responsible and the opposite of Kade. They are very accepting g of Shadow and aren’t looking for her to be any different then she is.

i was honestly expecting a book a lot like ice planet barbarians or similar, but it ended up being a lot less like that. kind of sad for me since i really enjoyed that book but its fine. i didn't really vibe with the third person point of view writing choice, but im sure its for some people, just not me. it was a pretty solid book overall, but it wasn't really the thing i was hoping it would be. i would still recommend it, especially if you want to read a slightly more sophisticated or sci-fi version of ice planet barbarians, i think this one would definitely be for you.

I love how Shadow, a cyborg, joins her trio together when Kade claims her as his mate, Dentz is just about to ask her out. She has been wanting him to do it for the longest time. Kade she has never seen before in her life. She feels the pull toward him but she has been looking at Dentz since she got here. She knows neither of them has his other half. She decides to try something else. She asks them to act as a joined pair & share her. They decide to give it a trial run. It seems to be going well until Kade has leave to go meet with someone. He has a debt he has to repay. He is unable to give the men what he wants, codes to the protection grid for their planet so they want his ship to sneak in. He was afraid of this. He had video recorded a message to Shadow explaining everything & telling her she is now the captain of his ship, it should be back soon, without him. The man drugged him & as he hit the floor he set off a remote trigger that sent the ship & message to Shadow, with the return command dismantled. When She & Dentz receive the message they report to the council to let them know there might be trouble. Then they get some weapons & go to get Kade. Before she was freed, Shadow was an assassin cyborg, something she had never wanted to do again. But she was going to have to go get Kade. The alien who had Kade sent her a message telling her to bring him Kade's ship or they would kill him. He looked pretty messed up, but at least he was alive. She & Dentz flew the ship to the airlock where they were to meet the alien & when she landed to let them know she was coming out. By that time Kade had gotten away from his guards & was on his way to the airlock. He got there in time to see her leave the ship & start taking out aliens. About that time Dentz came out & was shooting them off at the side. Kade started taking them out with the gun he grabbed. She they got to him & got him on the ship. The alien who had been running things had tried to get away but got his small ship blow up by one of the other ships outside waiting to back them up. They all got home. No one could prove it but were sure it was all put together by the mining company that was pushing to get a hold of their planet again. They had been doing fly-bys & topside scanning, checking for a certain mineral that seems rare. Kade got a message from his fathers saying they wanted to see him & congratulate him on finding his mate. When they get married they have the three armbands that most as Kade's species would start with & they join as their little family like two brothers & their wife. I love it.

Entertaining story

I enjoyed this one. It was entertaining and for the most part, pulled me in from beginning to end. I really enjoyed getting to know Shadow. She is a cyborg that is still somewhat acclimating to life on Haven and having freedom. She is drawn to Denz but he seems to be avoiding her so she hasn't attempted to make a move or figure out if there is a chance he might be interested as well, that is until she has a conversation with her friend/mentor and decides that when he is back from his trip, which is any time, that maybe she will see if there could be something there. While out for a drink in the tavern, Kade catches the scent of Shadow and figures out that she is his mate, one that he was never expected to have or find since his anrik is dead. He is also in the middle of trying to settle a debt and not being comfortable with the information and request they are now asking for. Which becomes even more so when he finds his mate and it could affect the planet she calls home. Denz shows up at pretty much the same time that Kade is having his first conversation with her and it comes out very quickly that Kade believes she is his mate and that Denz is also interested. I enjoyed how Shadow made it known very quickly that she was interested in them both and wanted to know if that was an option for all three of them. I enjoyed the way that they built their relationship and worked on communication and getting to know each other. Shadow had time with both men separately as they were figuring out what was there between them. Things also move on a faster physical side of things as well with the mating fever happening between Kade and Shadow. The story was well written and interesting. It kept my attention and I was anticipating how the situation Kade got himself into was going to work out. I loved getting ot know a few of the other characters as well and am excited to see where the series goes next.

Her Alien Mates is the first book in The Drift: Haven Colony series. While it is connected to the greater events in The Drift series, it does stand alone. Three individuals, trying to find peace and comfort at Haven Colony, are suddenly thrust together. While Shadow and Kade are biologically mates, Shadow can’t help but want Denz, too. All three have darkness in their pasts that are threatening to overtake their future, but will they love and trust each other enough to overcome it all?

What a fantastic book that brings together so many cultures into one love. Kade, Shadow, and Denz stole my attention and heart right away and I loved the dynamics of their relationship as they had to find out who they are, who they want to be, and how they all fit together. I love reading how Shadow gained her confidence and reached out for what she truly wanted. She was trying to be someone so different from her past, but I loved how strong she was and wasn’t afraid to use her strengths to save those she loved. Kade and Denz were from two different cultures, yet had some similarities when it came to how they wanted their relationship to look. I liked the element of the fated mate feel that Kade had with Shadow, but I loved that Shadow was able to include who she wanted (Denz) after a lifetime of not having her desires be a factor. There’s some drama that unfolds that involves Kade, and it’s really cool to watch how the colony is doing and the challenges that it’s facing, too! I really enjoyed reading this book! I am excited to read what comes next in this series and world!

Loved this cool sci-fi world

Starting a new series is hard, but this one builds on the much loved Drift world. The writing brings you into each scene and the overall landscape comes alive. When I was reading this book I was totally entranced. One of my favorite characters (Phaedra) shows up to bring her witty banter and Denz has been floating in and out of the Drift in other books. But the new colony of Haven is filled with outcasts. The freed cyborgs are finding their new normal, and Shadow is also trying to reinvent herself. Denz is trying to guide the integration of the cyborgs, Vardarians, and even planning to bring in some humans to this new society. Kade is disillusioned with the politics and “cast” system of his home planet, so he became a trader. The way this trio comes together is cool and angsty and filled with potholes they have to cross, and we get to go with them. With just enough action, adventure, and some hot sexy times this is a sci-fi romance must read.

DNF - quit @ 58%
Where to start…I didn’t like 2 of the 3 main characters. Shadow was to robotic, didn’t feel like a cyborg, but a computer or machine or robot, she didn't feel like she had hardly any humanity to her. Not the kind of cyborgs I care to read about. Then there’s Kade, he seems to have a side to him I don’t like at all. I just really had a hard time caring about the 2 of them. It also felt like I missed a prequel or that this was split from a different series, I didn’t care enough to check into this though. There really wasn’t much world building to help the story materialize & pull together, adding in the flat characters that 2 of 3 I didn’t like, well, I’m surprised I lasted to the 58% point. Glad this was free on Amazon, as I’m deleting this from my Kindle.

At my age (61), life is way too short & my time is too important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.

Can They All Come Together?

What’s a newly freed cyborg supposed to do when she wants to find love and settle down? That’s what we find out in this first book from Susan Hayes in The Drift: Haven Colony series. Shadow has lived a life of obedience with none of her own choices but now she is free to make decisions of her own. And she has decided she wants Denz but isn’t sure if he’s able to love her back. She looks like the woman who murdered his best friend. Is he able to get over that? And then you have Kade showing up and immediately feeling like they are mates. And even though she feels the passion for Kade, Shadow’s not ready to give up her love for Denz. Can they all come together? And what about the trouble that Kade is in? This was an emotional book with all the feels. I really enjoyed it!

Love in all its forms…

Be prepared for a steamy, complicated triad romance! This author knows how to write love in its many forms, and this story is another sexy example. Denz, Kade and Shadow came together in a fated, yet not obstacle-free journey where baggage had to be rifled through before their futures could be certain. I loved how vivid the backstories were and how all of it came together in a fiery courtship full of angst, suspense and, of course, love… The individually seemed to be fighting their pasts but once they embraced all the facets that made them who they were, they were ready to commit themselves wholeheartedly to their unconventional love…

Throw in friends and family to lighten and darken the mix and this ended up being one of my favourite stories in The Drift world. A great start to this spin-off series and I can’t wait for more!

*I happily reviewed this story

Loved! This is the first book in The Drift: Haven Colony and oh it did not disappoint. I love The Drift series and this is a spin off of that. It is full of adventure, steam, danger, shameful/hurtful pasts, and oh so much more. There was not a slow part and I did not put it down.
Shadow wants to be free to make her own choices after a past of being controlled. Denz needs a new life to move on from what he has lost. Kade needs to move beyond the mistakes of his past. Mix these three together and there is a heat that will burn through the pages. I loved how they mesh together and help each other heal. Haven is a new beginning for these three and so many more. I cannot wait to see what happens next.

This book was totally captivating! Shadow is a cyborg assassin that is newly rescued from a lab and doesn't do well with a lot of people. She lived an isolated existence and doesn't have a lot of common skills, but she has an abundance of skills to kill. After being freed she's ready to hang up her weapons for something else. She definitely has no idea about romance or expressing interest in someone (Denz) when her fated mate (Kade) finds her. This proved to be a funny, exciting and romantic story. Shadow will pull out her weapons for a battle and both of her mates get the chance to she her majesty in action. Both love having a kick butt mate. I want more of Haven Colony! I requested a free advanced reader copy and am under no obligation to leave this review.

A bed big enough for three
Just when I thought the author’s world couldn’t get any better, she creates a brand new offshoot series for me to fall in love with. I enjoyed how the characters found a life they thought had been denied them with just a shift of the breeze. The author really takes us on emotional journey with this book, all about acceptance and growth and learning how to rely on others. Then she threw in the intense danger and excitement that is a hallmark of her books increasing the enjoyment and the excitement to reach the end and the HEA. I am not sure how the author will manage to surpass this one, but I can’t wait to read the next book and find out.

I am loving the new spin-off of the series. Shadow used to be an assassin. Now she has a chance at a new life with no violence and is able to make her own decisions about her life. She is attracted to Denz and he doesn't seem interested in her. While out with friends she meets Kade. Kade is on Haven to pay his debts by spying. He recognizes Shadow as his mate immediately. Denz is attracted to Shadow and believes he has lost his chance when Kade claims her. What a woman to do? Must read to find out.

I like this New Haven series as the cyborgs, Vardarians, Torski (only 2 of them) and human females bond to make happy lives after the human corporations or pirates have made their lives miserable. Shadow a cyborg female has lost all her sisters except Nyx and is now attracted to Denz even though her cyborg sister killed Zane his second. Kade is a trader whose gambling has put him in trouble with some criminals meets Shadow and the mating fever kicks in not making a lot of get to know you time.

Love is Where You Find It

Shadow is a retired assassin living on the planet called Haven. She is sister to former assassin, Nyx. Shadow is in a local bar/restaurant with a friend when she meets both of her future mates. One part Torski and the other Vardarian.
Secrets needed to be revealed before their triad could ever become successful.
The colony is threatened by outside forces, and the colonists gather to support the team taking on the threat.
Good story. The drama didn't jack my blood pressure, but it was still exciting. We get to learn more about the planet too.

An exciting beginning!
A richly told story of a safe Haven for Vardarians and Cyborgs in the Drift. Shadow is attracted to Denz; Kade discovers Shadow is the mate fated for him. You’ll have to read to discover how this threesome sorts things out. Just let me say that Kade has some impulse control issues that led him to make some unwise decisions. This is so exciting! Some hot romance, emotional healing, adventure (it’s risky business), and a soul-satisfying outcome. I love it!

So if you Follow the Drift/Nova series, you will know where the Haven planet came from and all the people on it. I love that a side Character who is such a sweet and loving male and a broken but caring cyborg can heal a winged male of worth inside and out! this story is so awesome and if this is the way Ms. Hayes starts a new series, i am now gonna have 3 addictions of hers. Drift/Nova and Haven!!

I loved that Shadow got her story. There was so much more than expected to Shadow. Kade and Denz both have a lot of healing and growing to do to be with Shadow. They both took the story in different directions that happily circled back to Shadow and Haven. I’m looking forward to seeing more stories as Haven expands. This is the first in this series but Shadow was introduced in an earlier story. You don’t need to have read that series or story to enjoy this one.

Ooohhh. Good start.

Shadow is trying very hard to start a new life in the colony. She is trying to be non threatening and make friends. She has a crush on a Gordon but he avoids her at all costs. Then Kade, a Vardarian trader shows up. He is in some trouble. But one day at the local bar and he meets his mate. But now the Torski has decided rhe wants Shadow too. Shadow makes an offer they can't refuse. Loved it. It was sweet.

It's a ok read I liked it well enough. I kinda felt like I started a connected series half way through so I should of checked to see if there was another series that predated this one. My main complaint, that's not really a complaint just an observation, is that the smexy scenes are kinda more vanilla in terms of most menege reads. There's only one scene of mfm and it's tamer than I would of thought. It's still an OK read though.

Wanted to leave a 4.5 rating but choose the 4.00. I really liked the book and the world building of the Haven Colony. I thought this was an appropriate start to this series but at quickly became clear that I was missing a great deal of backstory. The book can be a standalone story but I’ve decided to go back to the original “Drift” series and start at the beginning. I’m kinda invested to start at the beginning. Good job Ms. Hays on getting me hooked.

Her Alien Mates is a smart story of trust, forgiving oneself and love. Shadow has a past she isn’t proud of but is learning to start over. Kade is in danger of letting his past destroy his future. Denz needs to let go of the past so he can have a future. Watching these three learn and grow will make your heart sing. The sexy times will make you sweat and the whole story will make you feel great.

Her Alien Mates

I absolutely love Ms. Hayes' style of writing. I have been anxiously awaiting this book and was NOT disappointed!!

Shadow, Kade and Denz are the perfect trio. I felt their love grow with them! There was enough drama, burnout too much. Exciting story!! Will read again and again!!

Progress

Haven is coming together and growing by leaps and bounds. This really was a perfect triad with three different species, two who had lost a vital piece of what they had considered would be their future only to find something better. Each has helped the others grow and become better.

Her Alien Mates

Shadow never thought she would be free to do anything but now that’s she is safe from the Corporation whom made her, she is on to better things.
Denz has waited for awhile to see if Shadow was healed enough to ask her out but he arrived just as Kade claimed her as mate. What will all 3 do? Can they solve this problem? Recommend this book
